Correctional Officer Stress
Everyday crimes are committed. Some of these offenses committed by perpetrators are more severe
than others, and cause the individuals who carry out the crimes to be sentenced to time in the county
or prison facilities. At the forefront of protecting these criminals from committing more crimes and
jeopardizing the public's safety are correctional officers. The main goal of corrections work is the safe
and secure management and rehabilitation of justice–involved individuals, whether in locked
facilities or within community supervision programs (Denhof, 1). Although, correctional officer's
sole job is to provide care, custody, and control for perpetrators, correctional officers have another
job. That task is not to become subdued by the stress...show more content...
The seven programs that administrators can consider adopting can be run in house or by contract
with external agencies (Finn, N.P). According to Finn, this program will offer" professional
counseling, peer support, or both, address chronic stress, serve family members, conduct academy or
in–service training" (N.P). This evidence suggests that offering counseling to officers and their
family members is imperative. Implementing a mandatory counseling session as part of officer's
yearly in house training would be a good initiative. This counseling session could take place in
conjunction with officer's yearly renewal of weapons qualification, first–aid training, and

CORRECTIONAL OFFICER 2
Life of a Correctional Officer
Correctional Officers are very important people and they perform very important duties. An
correctional officer job can become very demanding and on top of that it can be very stressful. Just
like police officer. Correctional Officers takes a change each day they are at work and they never
know what happen that's why they have to be point each day they arrive to work.
Correctional Officers play a very vital role in the criminal justice field. Their jobs are very dangerous
when dealing with inmates that are in jail and prisons. "The...show more content...
There are several different categories an correctional officer an be assigned to. This is what a day of
being an officer consist of.
1. Living units– which is when officers are assigned to housing areas.
2. Work detail supervisors–which is supervision of inmates in work detail.
3. Industrial shop and school offices–these officers render security and are accountable for inmates
while they are in those departments.
4. Yard officers patrol and supervise inmates movement while they are on the yard of theprison.
5. Administration building assignments– these are officers that check in visitors and manage the
control center.
Last, but not least are perimeter security and relief officers. They make sure that the perimeter
around the prison is secure. Relief officers are there to relief officers and to help with officers who
are sick and have to call– in for that day. Each officer is assigned to post order which is "the
detailed description of the activities that are required to be performed throughout the day, often
including the time hey are to occur" (Seiter, 2011).

Contraband In Corrections
The policies and procedures implemented to reduce or eliminate contraband in a correctional
facility would vary depending on the type of criminals housed in each unit. However, before
implementing new policies and procedures, one must make sure each facility is staff properly with
skilled professionals. The results will lead to employing trained officers and psychiatrist that will
understand the offender's frame of mind. Unmistakably, the staff is the core of any successful
criminal justice jail system. Mainly, so staff can recognize humanity in the offender, change the
offender's attitude towards crime and confiscate potential contraband efficiently. As a result, those
trained professions are able to prevent further crimes or manipulation

Legal Liability In Corrections
The two topics that piqued my interest were found in Chapter 3 and 4. I chose these topics because
it was discussed briefly and I wanted to know more about it. I find these topics interesting. The two
topics should be addressed more within the concept of correction. Legal Liability Peered Reviewed
Article Source
"Jail employees may be legally liable for their actions" (Clear, Reisig, Petrosino & Cole p.77). This
is relevant to the first half of the class because as we discuss corrections it's important to know who
is responsible within the system. I chose it because I experienced a warden stepping down for the
actions of another staff member. Everyone should be responsible for their own actions but
"Supervisors, including wardens can be liable for the actions of their staff members (Clear et al.,
p.78). I understand that an administrator should be...show more content...
I agree, staff being held accountable for behaviors toward inmates is good because it reduces abuse
towards inmates. Administrators being held accountable for their staff is necessary because they are
in charge of their work group but to penalize the administrator for the staff's mistake I don't agree
with. I believe the person that did wrong should be penalized although that administrator may
become harsher on the policies imposed to reduce the chances of a mistake to reoccur in the future.
Legal liability in corrections is an important concept because it addresses who is responsible for
what. It is important to know that staff is legally responsible for their actions and administrators are
responsible for their staff. It's important to know that inmates can also hold staff accountable if being
mistreated but unfortunate to know inmates can dispute an allegation not harmful such as
