The Importance of Being Earnest is set in late Victorian England, a time of social reform and cultural renaissance. However, upper class society remained rigidly controlled by social codes of conduct that all were expected to conform to, treating the lower classes with disdain. The play satirizes these trivial upper class social standards and conventions through its comedy of manners plot involving love affairs and pursuing wealth with little effort. It both criticizes and upholds the ideals of the upper classes, reflecting their paradoxical nature. Original productions featured ultra-realistic sets and props to create an immersive world, with actors performing in a traditional fourth wall style.

Absurd drama is defined by works of drama created during the modern era. It is known as absurd because of how boldly it strays away from traditional ideals. Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot is a play well-known for being apart of the "Theatre of the Absurd". Waiting for Godot is a great example of absurd drama because every element of the play is strange and abnormal. The homelessness and disillusionment is expressed in all aspects of the play; the setting, language, characters, etc. Dictionary.com defines absurd as unreasonable, illogical, and inappropriate. Modern literature expresses a theme of absurdness of culture. Normalcy is no longer a thing and the elements of modernism consists of something disturbing. In Harold Pinter's The Homecoming is absurd because it exposes dysfunction within the household. It is also absurd to think that the pure and innocent house wife could be a sexually pleasing mistress to many men; nevertheless, make her own money doing so.
The absurd element of modern literature is not only expressed through drama. It is also expressed through poetry. In Dulce et Decorum Est, William Yeats expresses absurdness by poetically confronting the ugly truths about war. He completely goes against the fantasized manifest destiny perspective and uses figurative language to convey a negative image of war; "coughing like hags", "drunk with fatigue", "helpless sight", gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs". Yeats paints a picture of the modern society to expose the absurdness of the fantasy of war.
· Absurd dramaCL13 Respond to this quote #2
Absurd drama was mostly written in the 1950's and 1960's. The term was first defined as the human situation as basically meaningless and absurd. Whereas traditional theatre attempts to create a photographic representation of life as we see it, the Theatre of the Absurd aims to create a ritual-like, mythological, archetypal, allegorical vision, closely related to the world of dreams. The focal point of these dreams is often man's fundamental bewilderment and confusion, stemming from the fact that he has no answers to the basic existential questions: why we are alive, why we have to die, why there is injustice and suffering. Waiting for Godot is a great example of this because it embodies so many elements that are included in the definition or characteristics of of an Absurd drama.

Modern Literature can be best described as being in direct contrast with traditional culture. In Literature, this is displayed in unreliable narrators, non-linear time, a stream of consciousness style, and an overwhelming amount of irony and satire.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Essays On The Importance Of Being Earnest
1. Importance Of Being Earnest Essay
Theatre Studies: Cat One Draft
The Importance of Being Earnest is set in late Victorian England, a time of social reform. Society
was rediscovering art in its many forms yet as a consequence, The Upper class continued their
program of suppressed inferiority. The lower classes were treated with disdain and disgust and the
animosity between the groups was easily visible. Essentially, the late Victorian era was the beginning
of a mini cultural renaissance, yet Upper Class society, which forms the basis of the play was
rigidly controlled by a set of unwritten rules, a code of conduct as it may, in which all were
expected to conform with. This code referred to a number of things, including the way they ate,
dressed, and spoke. The 19th...show more content...
This satirical view is closely bound to the atmosphere of the time. The play itself deals itself with
a typical Comedy of Manners storyline, the trivial social standards, love affairs and the aim of
gaining the most money with the least effort. These subject matters are transfixed into a witty
dialogue of which is usually a focal point of Comedy of Manners material. The play criticizes and
upholds the Upper classes ideals at the same time. Oscar Wilde's satirical view of the Upper class is
a paradox in itself as he was part of it. The Importance of Being Earnest also supports elements of the
well–made play.
Original productions of The Importance of Being Earnest were staged in conventional theatres in the
confines of the Proscenium Arch. The actors performed in a fourth wall style, where essential the
Actor/Audience is non existent, and the actors play only to themselves, as if there is a wall
between them and the audience. The Importance of Being Earnest used the ideas of realism and
thrust them upon the stage. Ultra realistic props were used to create a world in which nothing seems
out of place. Scenery was so intricately painted that the world seems unbelievably real.
The Importance of Being Earnest has often being criticized for its emphasis on language, even to the
stage where it could best be presented with minimal or no actor movement whatsoever.
