Why Advertising Alcohol Is Destroying Public Well Being When I was nine years old, I remember
seeing the most delectable, mouthwatering commercial on television. It was for beer. Growing up in
a family that did not drink, I never thought beer could look so appetizing. The beverage was
everywhere I looked except for in my own fridge. Not only adults, but kids and teens everywhere
are being bombarded with alcohol advertisements. Many of these youths choose to succumb to
these ads and end up with destructive drinking habits. Not only is alcohol damaging to youth but
also to adults. According to a U.S. study, adults were found to put themselves at severe risk of
harm after having more than four drinks in one session (Medew). This number can change
depending on the gender, size, athleticism, and other factors of the consumer. Although some may
say that alcohol is not too damaging if drunk responsibly, the fact that alcohol is a direct route to
damaging organs like the liver, heart, and pancreas and harming the brain is a red flag
(NIHSeniorHealth). To whatever extent, alcohol weakens the brain s control over movement,
speech, memory, and especially judgement, which often leads to impulsive behavior and other

trials (Morton, 2006). The Carolina was developed by the medieval church from Roman origins
(Morton, 2006, XXX). Investigations required testimony from at least two reliable witnesses and

Analysis Of Marge Piercy s A Work Of Artifice
The United States Women s National Team is paid almost four times less than the United States
Men s National Team, despite producing nearly $20 million in revenues for U.S. Soccer in 2015 .
Some may argue that just because they are women they don t deserve equal pay or the same rights
as the men s soccer players. This is one of many situations that contributes injustices against women.
It is these injustices that Marge Piercy exposes in her feminist poem A Work of Artifice. Although
to the untrained eye, A Work of Artifice may appear to be simply about bonsai trees, the poem
actually uses an extended, implied metaphor or to emphasize the damaging effects of misogyny on

Piercy compares men to a gardener, which outlines the damaging effects of patriarchy. For
example, Piercy states, The gardener croons, it is your nature to be small and cozy, domestic and
weak; how lucky, little tree, to have a pot to grow in. and how attractive the pot is. The gardener
truly feels that he isn t doing any harm to the bonsai, that the plant is very lucky to have such a
