Pseudoscience Paper
Mega 1
The Impact of Pseudoscience on Consumers Pseudoscience is known by many as false science.
Many consumers are convinced by companies that sells these products provide instant cures that
lead to a healthier lifestyle. These products are scientific theories that have little evidence to back
up their scientific claims. The Internet, health food stores, magazines, and commercials are just a
few ways that companies can target potential consumers to sell their products. Medical information
searched by consumers via the Internet has become the largest source of information worldwide.
Consumers search the Internet for weight loss strategies, treatments for autism, anti aging creams,
male enhancement, and prevention of cancer and heart ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While health foods stores attract consumers to purchase health supplements, many manufacturers
use health food stores to promote their bogus products. In March 1999, the FTC filed a complaint
in federal court against the makers of Vitamin O. The company ran false ads claiming the Vitamin O
supplement prevents cancer, heart, and lung disease by adding an extra oxygen supplement to the
bloodstream. With no scientific evidence to prove the benefits of Vitamin O, the two companies
from Washington agreed to a settlement of $375,000 for consumer compensation. The settlement
prohibited the Vitamin O manufacturers from making claims that were unsupported about the
Vitamin O health benefits. Testimonials and endorsements of product represented through previous
experience from members of the public who used the product were also prohibited in the
settlement. In conclusion, marketing agents with false science beliefs have one common goal: To
sell! We as consumers must be aware and informed of unknown supplements that claims to have a
great deal of impact to your life. These products are known for its testimonials by doctors and actors
that make claims of using the product. Pseudoscience supplements have caused serious illnesses
and even death due to consumers lack of knowledge when purchasing these products. It is strongly
recommended that consumers research the companies and the product that advertise false products
very carefully before purchasing a supplement that claims to

Life of Pi Essay
The Aura of Orange
Human, animal, plants, and all the Earth s content is survivor. They are fighting for their rights in
order to live in this beautiful world. The novel Life of Pi written by Yann Martel, has employed a
lot of symbols that is related to the life. One of the most significant symbols is the color orange. The
author uses orange as a symbol of maintenance of the spirit to survive in survival. This can be
proved as most of the objects that are in the color orange in the novel generate feelings of hope,
can develop courage in survivors, and last but not least can keep them continuously energetic; in
order to strengthen their hearts and spirits to face all the possibilities in life.
With the presence hope, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Orange Juice is just a weak animal that never haunt any animal and just love to eat
fruits, however, her courage overpowers her ability. As Pi monologue, an adult female orang
utan cannot defeat an adult male spotted hyena... What does fruit eater know about killing?
Where would it learn where to bite, how hard, for how long? (Martel 130). This is something
amazeing as the orang utan is very brave to face the hyena. One of the reasons why Pi called the
female orang utan as Orange Juice is because the orange animals do represent the courage in an
animal. On top of that, Richard Parker the Bengal tiger also represent courage in an orange
animal as he is being scared by the hyena. The flame colored carnivore emerged from beneath the
tarpaulin and made for the hyena. The hyena was leaning against the stern bench, behind the
zebra s carcass, transfixed. It did not pull a fight. Instead it shrank to the floor, lifting a forepaw
in a futile gesture of defense, shows that the hyena was afraid of the orange Bengal tiger that
look fierce on him (Martel 150). This is how the Bengal tiger stay to survive in the lifeboat on the
spooky ocean. Therefore, it is true that orange is the color of courage; and this can spread up the
spirit of survival to promote the important of life.
In order to maintain the spirit of survival, energy is very important both physically and emotionally,

General skills
When communicating in general it is important to be aware of a number of general skills and
making sure that you consider the needs of your audience when to best address their needs.
Cultural Differences You should be aware of cultural differences so that you do not offend your
audience. This means being aware of who you will be communicating with in advance and learning
about their cultural background. You will also needto be aware of your body language and personal

you want to do when using Q A in a business context is to find out about your customer and make

Slavery, Racism, And Slavery Essay
Slavery began before racism in North America. To prove this I will provide an analysis of
chronological events that displayed acts of slavery and racism. With that being said, Initially I will
be delving into the earliest implementations of slavery in North America. That being Jamestown
Virginia 1619. Secondly, analysing an extract from 1655, where an African man named Anthony
Johnson claimed to own another black individual, John Casor as his property. Subsequently, moving
onto Winthrop D Jordan s essay, The Mutual Causation of Racism and Slaverywhich will divulge
the first instances of racism to occur in North America. Furthermore, touching on an article
regarding legislators in Maryland, displaying one of the first laws enacted in North America, which
were racist in nature. In contrast, expanding on a court document that was approved by white
legislators showing that black individuals were allowed to own and bequeath property in the late
seventeenth century. Penultimately, delving into the early eighteenth century where racism began
to engulf North America. Lastly, summarizing that, due to the analysis and chronological order of
the evidence presented, slavery began before racism.
The first sign of slavery in North America began in August, of 1619. This was seen when twenty
black men were sold to residents of Jamestown, Virginia by a dutch ship. With this being the case,

The Kidnappinging Of The Lindbergh And The Kidnappings
March 1, 1932 just after 10:00 pm Betty Gow, a nursemaid for the notorious Lindbergh family,
approached Anne Lindebergh asking if she had taken the baby from his nursery room. Moments
later it was discovered that the baby had been kidnapped directly from the second story of the
Lindbergh s home and a ransom note for 50,000 dollars left on the windowsill. News Fig. 1
traveled fast and soon Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s
infant child(Fig1) where the only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the
absence of the child. All hope seemed lost when even after the ransom was paid the infant came
up dead in the woods not far from the home with few evidence leading to who might have done
this terrible act, but little did they know the evidence found was just enough to catch the
kidnapper. On September, 1934 Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a carpenter from the Bronx, was
discovered using a ten dollar gold note ransom bill to pay for gas linking him directly to the
crime. Following the Incarceration police found $14,000 of the Lindbergh s money stashed in the
suspect garage and various other evidence linking him to the kidnapping(1). Case The case began
with a search of the premises soon after the child had been found missing which yielded in the
discovery of a ransom note demanding $50,000 for the return of the child. Traces of mud were next

A Classroom in the Park
In the nineteenth century, many psychologist and educational reformers began to challenge the
past comprehension of education and it s teachings. Many defiers believed that education cannot be
simply taught out of a text book, and proceeded to prove their point. John Locke speculated that
truth and knowledge... are out of observation and experience rather than manipulation of accepted
or given ideas. Johann Bernhard Basedow (1724 1790) developed new teaching methods that were
simply based on interaction with a child. Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi(1746 1827), whose motto was
Learningby head, hand and heart, believed that a student learns best through experiences and direct
manipulation and experience of objects. (__) He also felt that children learn through internal
motivation rather than pressure. He concludes that a teacher s job is to help guide their students to
a place where learning can unfold naturally. Friedrich Fröbel (1782 1852) created the concept of
kindergarten through his recognition of children s unique needs and capabilities and belief that the
teacher s role was not to indoctrinate but to encourage self expression through play, both
individually and in group activities. (__) John Dewey (1859 1952) was an American philosopher,
psychologist, and educational reformer who set standards for educationthat are still used today.
Dewey was considered a major voice of progressive education, which is summarized as hands on

Gothic Forest Description
I was walking up the moor on a sunny March morning, when I saw a forest in the distance. From
where I was standing I could see the leaves of the forest trees dancing back and forth. I ran fast to
the forest as the swaying leaves hypnotized me. Maybe too fast. I tripped over my black and
white converse and tumbled down the moor. My fall got grass all over my black leggings, ripped
my white t shirt, and knotted my blond hair. I looked up and I saw a sign. The sign was nearly
rotted away by nature. The sign read, Shark Forest.
The forest gave me a peculiar feeling as I entered. This was because there were no forest animals
making noise or motion. But, I continued on walking. As, I was walking I noticed a silhouette

Protein is the most abundant substance in the human body. Protein are nearly the component of
every cell and are often referred to as building block because of their in development and repair
of bone muscle skin and blood cells. Protein from food is broken down into amino acids by the
digestive system. Amino acids are used to build and repair muscles, for making hormones, red
blood cells, hair and other tissues. Adequate protein intake is also important for a healthy
immune system. Because protein is a source of calories, it will be used for energy.
Carbohydrates can be grouped into two categories: simple and complex. Simple carbohydrates
are sugars, complex carbohydrates consist of starch and dietary fibre. Carbohydrate provides the
body with energy that used to fuel it. Since carbohydrate is our preferred sources of fuel, our
body must find another source of energy when we do not eat enough. As a result, the body will
break down stored fat in a process called ketosis. Ketosis produces a fuel called ketones and is an
important process that ensure sufficient energy is provided to the brain. When adequate
carbohydrate intake continues for an extended period of time excessive ketone are produced
resulting in acid acidic blood and a condition called ketoacidosis. Fibre is the indigestible portion
of plant foods that helps move food through the digestive system. It softens stools by absorbing
water. Fibres, also known as bulk or roughages can be found in whole

Becoming An Endocrinologist
An endocrinologist is someone who studies and specializes in anything relating to the endocrine
system. As described the endocrine system is a series of glands that work throughout the body to
help you function properly. To become an endocrinologist is a long process taking up to 10 years
of education. They then have the ability to treat and diagnose a hormoneimbalance or problem in
the endocrine organs such as thyroid, pituitary, testes, ovaries, pancreas, and adrenals. Some
conditions treated by an endocrinologist include cancers of the endocrine system, cholesterol

thyroid nodule they have no symptoms. If the nodule is causing your glands to make too many
hormones it can cause what is called hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of this include palpitations,
rapid heart rate, anxiety, restlessness and an increased appetite. If your doctor suspects thyroid
nodules they will do tests such as an ultrasound or a thyroid scan. A good example of a procedure
done by an endocrinologist is an LHRH test. This test is done to see how your pituitary gland is
working when it comes to regulating sex hormone production. The night of this procedure you

small needle inserted into a vein in your hand or arm. This is just to get a blood sample and is
not to stay. Whoever is taking the blood will use a needle such as a ventflon to make drawing the
blood sample easy with little to no discomfort. The blood is then checked for hormones LH and

Native Americans; A Prolonged Misrepresentation When hearing the words, African Americans,
Hispanics, or Caucasians, the majority of people in America will generally categorize the traits of
these nationalities based upon their roles displayed in the media, books, movies, or first hand
experience. The actions being made by their associations is stereotyping; defined in the Merriam
Webster dictionary as, [believing] unfairly that all people or things with a particular characteristic

of which the topic had to deal with globalization and what the government involvement consist of.
In frieden s case he talks about the government involvement in globalization during or after world
war II in globalization. Pietra Rivoli discusses about the t shirt that people wear everyday but not
knowing the transformational factors hidden when making that t shirt globally. The roles that
government play in the global work environment is that in today s world majority of businesses
need to register with a state government to function. Corporations need a charter, and other forms
of businesses, such as limited liability companies or partnerships, need other forms of registration.
The purpose of this registration is usually to define the financial accountability the owners of the
company have. It limits their risk to the amount they have invested in that particular organization.
Registration also allows the government to monitor companies to execute its other functions in the
business world. Businesses contract with other businesses globally. These contracts may be
complex, such as mergers, or they may be as simple as a warranty on supplies purchased. The
government enforces these contracts. Companies bring one another to court just as individuals do.
An oral agreement can establish a contract, but usually only a written agreement is verifiable. If

Barbie vs. Bratz Essay

Now a days everyone has some sort of social media page including the younger generations,
however anyone under the age of 18 has to lie on their page because it s not meant for kids.
Because of the expanding popularity of social media I believe that kids are growing up faster than
they need to. When I was younger I was still playing with my Barbie dolls into 8th grade so around
13/14 years old. My cousin has a 13 year old daughter to constantly posts on facebook how she is
going to be alone forever and that she will never meet a good guy. At 13 years old she should not
be concerned about boys, especially not finding the one she is going to spend the rest of her life
with!
This all being said I think that the popularity of social media is taking away from young girls
being young which is causing them to stray away from childhood toys like Barbies and Bratz. Also
with the popularity of an internet meme taking the Barbie and Bratz image and suggesting
things in a mature manner causes people to look at them in a manner aside from being a child s
play thing. 4. Do you think the efforts made by Richard Dickson were the most effective ways to
restore the brand? Defend your answer. I think Richard Dickson did a great job of restoring the
brand just based on the 18% increase in sales in 2009. I love the fact that he mandated that all

The Death Of A Railway Section Man Essay
When William married 17 year old Orrville native Margaret on October 15, 1917, he was like his
dad a railway section man in Falding. Indeed, 3 out of the 5 boys Milo and Eliza had would at
some time work for CNR. Clearly dad was useful in getting employment for his sons. After
marriage the couple resided in Gordon Bay on Lake Joseph. There they fell so ill of the Spanish
Flu that sister Ethel had to temporarily take up residence with them in Mid June of 1919 to see
them through. As William gained experience he moved down the line to Washago as a RR

Tragedy befell the childless couple when they went on a 19th June 1927 trip, Margaret fell from

Edith had been living for 12 years as Mrs. Morrison. The marriage occurred on May 5, 1928 in
Beaverton and they continued to live in Washago through WWII. William dabbled on the side, for

An Organization s Performance Management Plan Essay
Introduction
According to Caldwell (2002, pp 8), performance management is defined as a proactive partnership
between employees and management that helps employees perform at their best and alight their
contributions with the goals, values and initiatives of the organisation .
High performing organisations are created through individual accountability for both the
achievement of an organisation s results and its cultural foundation. Culture in its simplest terms is
how we do things around here . And while culture change needs to be led from the top, it is
everyone in the organisation s responsibility. The success balances on all employees being
accountable for achieving the organisation s goals, living the organisation s values and
demonstrating the right personal behaviour.
Factors involved in performance management
An organisation s performance management plan must identify the contributions each employee
makes in achieving the organisation s goals and objectives. Performance management is a continual
process that requires the engagement and participation of all involved. This is the process to create
a work environment where employees can perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
To be constituted as effective performance management, the following must be evident:
Employees must have a clear job description
A fair and equitable process and promote open lines of communication between the employee and
the employee s manager
Build employees

Other airlines followed suit, creating their own systems. For example, Delta Air Lines launched the
Delta Automated Travel Account System (DATAS) in 1968. United Airlines and Trans World
Airlines followed them after in 1971, with the Apollo Reservation System and Programmed Airline

The problem following these systems being developed is that travel agents begun to push for a
system that would automate their side of the process. Fearing this would place too much power
in the agent s hand. American Airlines executive Robert Crandall proposed creating and industry
wide computer reservation system to be a central clearing house for U.S Travel. In 1976, United
began to offer their system APOLLO to travel agents so it wouldn t let them book tickets to
United s competitors. After this, other companies started following suit and release their systems

What Is The Mood Of The Poem The Highwayman
a)The orientation in the poem The Highwayman occurs in stanzas 1,2 and 3. In the first stanza we
are introduced to the first two characters, Bess and the highwayman, who are deeply in love. In line
6, when the highwayman is being introduced, the reader finds out that he is riding up to the inn. In
the second stanza, the poet describes some specifics only about the highwayman s appearance.
Even though the highwayman is known as a robber, he acts like the hero in the story. This gives
us a powerful visual image, and builds drama and tension. The ballad relies on the scary intensity
of the night time and a dark old inn yard scene to keep the reader riveted. The scene is portrayed
with a spooky vibe, as the word moonlight is conveyed regularly and onomatopoeia is used to
create aural imagery. In stanza 1 the poet uses many literary techniques, such as alliteration,
metaphors,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A nasty surprise is given to the reader as it is not the highwayman that is responsible but a troop
of British soldiers. Noyes addresses the soldiers as red coats and King George s men which are
represented as the law. This suggests to the reader that the scene is set somewhere in England.
The reader can also tell that this poem dates around 1830. Tim sent King George s men to bound
Bess up with a musket beside her. Bess ends up sacrificing her life to warn the highwayman. All
Bess could see was the road that the highwayman would ride. Noyes describes the second
complication in a horrible scene where Bess is being torched. Earlier in the stanzas there was
foreshadowing of dark intent leading up to the second complication. Building up to the second
complication the reader is given a moment to go over the landscape again. Noyes brings us back
to the image of the road being like a ribbon across the purple moors (line 39), almost the same
words he used in line

08.04 Writing about Relevance
When love speaks the voice of all the gods makes heaven drowsy with the harmony, Taming of the
Shrew, Act IV, scene II.
Besides being a well written play, the comedic devices that each act holds is used to help develop
the plot and the comedy effect of The Taming of the Shrew. The devices used has shown the
audience how the shrew could be changed by receiving the same treatment it has been giving.
Shakespeare used comedic devices to help keep the audience focused on the story and keep them
guessing to what Petruchio was going to do to make Katharina tame. The plot becomes developed
when certain events with family drama, quick witted language, and unexpected scenarios that take
place to create plot twists that no one can foreshadow. All of the materials used above shape a story
of how a woman changes dramatically with the help of one man who she undoubted calls her

Who doesn t love some family drama in a movie or ever a play, Shakespeare I known to

If the method is prehistoric archaeology, all or most of the conclusion is hypotheses.
Archaeologist have a very tough job in finding and identifying what artifacts mean and there
importance to a lost culture. One artifact unless known is hard to conclude what it could be used
for, one must have more artifacts and possible the place they were used at. In my example all I
had was the structure with no knifes, pottery, or clothes. This makes it very difficult to identify the
use of these structures with no previous discoveries that resemble this one. Archaeologist not only

Summary Of The Names Of The Loving Parents Of Alicia
Ekitai and Kanori the names of the loving parents of Alicia, they had been together for two years
at the time of her birth and resided in the 24th ward until their deaths. Knowing anything about the
24th ward you d know that it s no place to raise a child. Described by most as a living hellhole; a
ward created by ghouls themselves manly populated by them. Sure some humans live there but, it s
not exactly a recommended choice of housing. It wasn t the first choice of her parents but, it was
their only choice. Even if she understands the situation behind her childhood, forgiveness is absent
from her heart, much to her fathers pain.
Kanori once used to be a regular old girl working on her studies as she went through life. There was

He escorted her to the shop and back to her home wanting to make sure she stayed safe. During
their walk they learned about each other and he promised to teach her about ghouls and their

friend that walked with her to the shop making sure she wasn t alone. Having been gone so long
her parents assumed otherwise. After two months they hired an investigator getting a bad feeling
about Ekitai. It had been roughly 3 months and secretly the two were now officially together. They
were happy with their lives they made each others life bliss. Ekitai finally felt that he was living a
normal life with a job and a girl to call his own. One night as they walked to her house together they
noticed something strange. The street was empty no one sitting outside or anything. Knowing that
her neighbors were often out during this time, she urged Ekitai that it d be best if they went
somewhere else. He couldn t see why but, trusted in her intuition.
The investigator had discovered that Ekitai was a ghoul and the CCG had been sent out to deal
with him. Kanori was also under arrest for hiding the identity of a ghoul. When they had turned

Gender Advertisements Erving Goffman Summary
As well as feeding off of the sources and material presented earlier in this paper, the analysis to
come will also use Erving Goffman s categorisation of gender to analyse how the women (and
some men) are depicted on the front covers of Playboy and Good Housekeeping within said
timeframe. In his study GenderAdvertisements (Goffman, 1985), Goffman gathered hundreds of
advertisements from magazines in various positions and poses and analysed poses and how they
portrayed masculinity versus femininity. His way of analysing advertisement differentiates itself
and makes a broader distinction of what is considered sexist or not, by showing much like the
Heterosexual Script earlier on in the paper, what was considered appropriate roles for men and
women.
In Goffman s analysis of advertisements he suggests several variables used when analysing a
depiction of both men and women. Relative size suggests women are often positioned lower than a
man, both in height and size, which can often also propose they are lower in both physical and
social standard. Feminine touch shows women carefully caressing an object, or even themselves by
touch. Showing a clear distinction between the utilitarian grip men usually have, and the decorative
touch women more often have. Function Ranking is when there is often both a man and a woman,
and at first glance they might seem to be executing a function, but at a closer look the woman is
again more of a decorative part of the picture, looking at

A Comprehensive Picture Of The Labor Market
1) Employment Situation Most narratives of U.S. economy usually begin with the employment
report. This report pastes a comprehensive picture of the labor market, and perhaps in a broader
sense provides a glimpse of the overall condition of the economy. Selected Indicator(s): Non
Farm Payrolls Change Importance Household income is largely depended upon wages and
salaries. If the household (workforce) earns more, it will spend more and businesses will
produce more, thus increasing economic output. Conversely, if fewer people are working, we
will have lower spending and economic activity will be reduced. It is this fundamental flow
effect, which makes the employment report generate expectations about business sales and
profits. Household (consumer) spending accounts for 2/3 of the U.S GDP, thus the employment
report has the power to move both equity and bond markets and impact the U.S dollar. The Fed
minutes from Dismal also reveal that the Fed takes due notice of the Employment situation. The
Non farm payroll change number tells us how many jobs were added in since the last survey
(monthly survey). Current Trend As the U.S. economy started to emerge out the 2008 recession
payroll gains were witnessed in the later half of 2010 and overall a positive trend in payroll change
i.e. payroll gains have remained intact ever since. Although, the recent number of payroll gains of
38,000 is the weakest monthly gain in the last 5 years, but nonetheless the number is positive.

Metamorphosis, By Franz Kafka
Society can be cruel to people who do not fit in and art can help to break the pain.
Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, is a reflection of his unsettled relationship with his family and
society. Franz Kafka creates a hideous creature, a monstrous insect, to show how he feels in his
reality. Gregor, in Metamorphosis, is a tool for Kafka to psychoanalyze his perceived deficiency in
society and communicate his contemplations on his meaning in life.
Franz Kafka s estrangement from his family and society started early in his life. Franz Kafka was
born on the third of July, 1883 in Prague. Kafka was the oldest child with three younger sisters and
two brothers that died as infants. Prague was home to Czech people but at that time was
controlled by the Austro Hungarian Empire. Kafka grew up in a German speaking Jewish
family. Not many German Jews lived in Czech at that time and this alone may have played a part
in his separation from society. He was also not very involved with Judaism. He knew all the
Jewish customs but later considered himself a socialist atheist (Price, par. 4). Kafka s first
language was Czech but after the age of six he went to a German speaking school and he became
more fluent in the German language. Franz Kafka s father, Herman Kafka, was a wealthy
merchant and was very repressive of Franz. Kafka s mother Julie Lowy Kafka was not able to
protect him from his father. She proved unable to mediate the estrangement between her brusque
dominating husband and her

Examples Of Causative Verbs
Causative verb is used when talking about something that someone else did for another person. It
means that the subject caused the action to happen, but didn t do it themselves. Maybe they paid,
or asked, or persuaded the other person to do it. Causative verbs express an action which is
caused to happen. In other words, when someone has something done for me him cause it to
happen. In other words, he does not actually do anything, but asks someone else to do it for him.
This is the sense of causative verbs. Intermediate to advanced level English learners should study

causative verbs, in no particular order: let, help, allow, have, require, allow, motivate, get, make,

Hofstede S Cultural Dimensions
Growth of research addressing the relationship between culture and consumption is exponential.
Thus, culture s influence on consumption and marketing had drawn increasing attention in recent
years. Hofstede s framework is the most widely used national cultural framework in psychology,
sociology, marketing and management studies. His dimensions were all constructed in such a way
that they addressed basic problems that all societies have to deal with. Thus, these dimensions of
national culturewere constructed at the national level namely:
PDI: Power Distance Index
IDV: Individualism versus collectivism
MAS: Masculinity versus Femininity
UAI: Uncertainty Avoidance Index
In 1991, a fifth dimension has been added LTO Long Term versus... Show more content on

The third dimension is MAS, where masculinity cultures such as Japan, Austria, Venezuela value
achievement and success; whereas femininity cultures such as Sweden and Norway stress caring
for others, interpersonal relationships and quality of life. Regarding the MAS index, Crotts and
Erdmann (2000) found visitors from less masculine cultures to be less critical and forgiving when
evaluating travel services compared with visitors from more masculine cultures, who are more
assertive and judgmental and evaluate airline service quality less positively and are less loyal to
airlines.
UAI reflects the extent to which people feel threatened by uncertainty or ambiguity and try to avoid
these situations. Money and Crotts (2003) found that visitors from high uncertainty avoidance
cultures (e.g. Greece) engage in significantly more risk or uncertainty reducing behaviors such as
purchasing more often prepaid tour packages, travel in larger groups, stay for shorter periods, and
visit fewer destinations than their low uncertainty avoidance German counterparts when traveling
internationally.
LTO refers to the preference for instant reward versus delayed reward. Countries such as Taiwan,
Japan, South Korea are long term orientated and stress thrift, hard work, dedication and savings. On
the other hand, cultures such as Pakistan are short term orientated that focus on tradition and social
obligations.
IND refers to the extent to which

late July and early August. Fernando Botero, the most famous man in the artistic world from Latin

The Flower Festival, is also a major attraction in Medellin. It takes place at the end of July and it

Great Elephant Ears
How to Grow Great Elephant Ears 2011 Edition
The elephant ear is a tropical plant that many people use to give their gardens a new, plush, and
exotic look over their neighbors. Why settle for the traditional roses when you can be the envy of
all those rose lovers. Growing to an average of 3 5 feet, the large leafy plant is named after its large
green leaves, which closely resemble the ears of an elephant. Being a tropical plant you will
generally want to plant elephant ears in the spring. It is the ideal season due to the amounts of
sunlight and rainfall.
Things you will need: Elephant Ear Bulbs (The seed of the plant)

Plants that experience shock will result in yellow or shriveled up leaves. It s important not to over
fertilize during this period, and to keep the plant well watered. In the more severe cases, it is
recommended that you remove the affected leaves so that they can grow back on their own.
In conclusion, an elephant ear plant is a great addition to any garden, but they frequently fall prey
to problems to insects, root rot, and transplant shock. With a little caution and care, these problems
can be avoided entirely.
TIPS
As you can probably tell, when you plant elephant ear plants, they do require more work than many
other varieties of plants. However, the resulting slice of rainforest decoration that the plants will
lend your garden will be worth it.
Once autumn arrives, towards its end, you ll need to dig the plants back up and store them if you
want the bulbs to survive the winter. The best time to procure this plant is in the winter after the
leaves have died. At that point, you can dig up the ear bulbs and place them in an area that is cool
and dark until spring. Simply cover them with plenty of mulch to cover the possibilities of a cool
spell ruining the bulb.
Additionally, the soil should border on wet for these plants, meaning it should at least remain damp
at all times, but you don t allow the soil to get too wet. As previously stated, it is important to have
a proper drainage system. A mulching system will help the plants keep the moisture they need.

Similarities Between Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games
District 12. Where you can starve to death in safety (6). This is a quote from the book The
Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book
is set in. Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The
Hunger Games is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death
in the HungerGames. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on
an island and having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel
Lord of The Flies and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in
similar settings, even though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity
between both books is the use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to
give a signal to passing ships that there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near
the island they may not be able to notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We
must make a fire (33). At the beginning of The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s
attention during the ceremony where all tributes ride on chariots. I want the audience to
recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily. Katniss, the girl who was on fire
(67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who will be able to help them in
the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing them. However, later on
in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s group uses fire to try
to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one and the drum roll
that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part when Ralph
is hiding in the currently burning down forest, trying to escape from Jack. In The Hunger Games,
fire is used to burn down part of the arena for the Games, in order to bring Katniss closer to the
other tributes. This fire is designed to flush us out, to drive us together (173). One difference
between the two books is the idea of unique appearances. In Lord of the Flies, there is the

Chaucer s Canterbury Tales
The Character of the Parson of Canterbury Tales
Geoffrey Chaucer is considered by many critics as the father of English literature. His literary
masterpiece was The Canterbury Tales. In these tales, Chaucer writes about pilgrims who are on a
journey to Canterbury. Each pilgrim has a tale that they tell on this journey. Chaucer expresses
themes and messages through the characterization of each pilgrim. Through the Parson, one of the
pilgrims, Chaucer is able to portray the life of a true Christian through the general prologue,
prologue to the Parson s tale, and the Parson s tale itself.
In the general prologue, Chaucer introduces the reader to the Parson. He is a holy minded man of
good renown (475). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is not seen as a high ranking, political clergy member. The Parson is a true example (501) of a
genuine Christian living a Christ like life. He, being learned (478), knew and taught the gospel. He
was not hypocritical nor did scrupulosity (522) poison his character. Chaucer himself greatly
admires the Parson saying, I [Chaucer] think there never was a better priest (520).
Chaucer continues to praise and respect the Parson in the prologue to the Parson s tale. He writes
on how the Parson declines not to tell a story, but rather to use the opportunity to preach to the other
pilgrims. The Parson shows characteristics of living a Christian life through his efforts to spread
the word. He chooses to enlighten the pilgrims of a true spiritual purpose rather than to entertain
them with lavish stories. In addition, Chaucer shows how the Parson is clear minded in the
prologue. The Parson is continuously focused on spreading the gospel and is not distracted but
material things. He chooses a life of servant hood and virtue over wealth, fame, and glory
In the Parson s tale itself, Chaucer is able to present the Parson s understanding of the earthly life.
Through the teaching of the seven deadly sins, the readers realize the impact of sin and its
potential to poison spiritual life. The Parson show how wise and knowledgeable he is through his
ethical teachings of the sins. He first warns

Why Does Evolution Happen
The theory of evolution is a change over time to help the species survive due to natural selection.
(survival of the fit) I believe that evolution and change over time does happen, but it happened
after a creation. I will use the evidence to describe why evolution happens and how it happens.
Adaptation is the act of changing the way you look or the way you act in order to survive and
reproduce. Physical change is a type of adaptation. An example of a physical adaptation is the size
of the finches beaks, or the whale s nostrils turning into a blow hole. Next, behavioral change is the
other type of adaptation. Whales used to be land animals, but eventually changed their behavior and
became water animals so they could find food. Evolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The whales couldn t find any food on land so they adapted their behavior and eventually the way
they look to survive in water. Each couple million years the fossils change. Whales started off
looking sort of like a wolf. Then, after a while their back bone started to change. At one point
whales almost looked like a seal. () Whales over time lost most of their fur, changed from paws
to webbed feet to fins, and their nostrils changed into a blow hole. Whales probably adapted
early on because some of them were dying off of they needed food so they went in the water to
hunt some fish. They were most likely successful at this so they continued to do this, and evolved
to make it easier. Whale evolution supports the theory of evolution because you can see the fossils,
and how they changed. Also, you see the fossil record and timeline of the organisms. Because of
this you see what they looked like, where they lived, and how the adapted. Scientists can make a
fossil record of whales because of the rock layers and fossil record. The law of superposition says
that any undisturbed sequence of rocks deposited in layers, which means scientists can look at
those layers to create a fossil record. You can use absolute and relative dating to find the age of any
fossil. Scientists used half life of some type of chemical to find the absolute age of a whale fossil.
Also, they looked at fossils and whale relatives to find relative age, like some

hour. First, the room was organized by the section. Each section has double or multiple amount of
toys for children to play with their friends. For example, on a shelf, there are three baby dolls and
their matching clothes. Children interact each other by asking questions such as, Baby is hungry.
What can I do? Another childsaid, I will show you. She used her baby bottle to pretend feeding a
baby. There is big open floor space in the back of the room for the children to play freely.

These products are scientific theories that have little evidence to back up their scientific claims. The Internet, health food stores, magazines, and commercials are just a few ways that companies can target potential consumers to sell their products. News Fig. 1 traveled fast and soon Newspapers alike were reporting on the kidnapping on the Lindbergh s infant child(Fig1) where the only evidence left was the ransom note, the ladder, a chisel, and the absence of the child. All hope seemed lost when even after the ransom was paid the infant came up dead in the woods not far from the home with few evidence leading to who might have done this terrible act, but little did they know the evidence found was just enough to catch the kidnapper. On September, 1934 Bruno Richard Hauptmann, a carpenter from the Bronx, was discovered using a ten dollar gold note ransom bill to pay for gas linking him directly to the crime. Following the Incarceration police found $14,000 of the Lindbergh s money stashed in the suspect garage and various other evidence linking him to the kidnapping(1). Case The case began with a search of the premises soon after the child had been found missing which yielded in the discovery of a ransom note demanding $50,000 for the return of the child. • 8. A Classroom in the Park In the nineteenth century, many psychologist and educational reformers began to challenge the past comprehension of education and it s teachings. Many defiers believed that education cannot be simply taught out of a text book, and proceeded to prove their point. John Locke speculated that truth and knowledge... are out of observation and experience rather than manipulation of accepted or given ideas. Johann Bernhard Basedow (1724 1790) developed new teaching methods that were simply based on interaction with a child. Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi(1746 1827), whose motto was Learningby head, hand and heart, believed that a student learns best through experiences and direct manipulation and experience of objects. (__) He also felt that children learn through internal motivation rather than pressure. He concludes that a teacher s job is to help guide their students to a place where learning can unfold naturally. Friedrich FrГ¶bel (1782 1852) created the concept of kindergarten through his recognition of children s unique needs and capabilities and belief that the teacher s role was not to indoctrinate but to encourage self expression through play, both individually and in group activities. I tripped over my black and white converse and tumbled down the moor. My fall got grass all over my black leggings, ripped my white t shirt, and knotted my blond hair. I looked up and I saw a sign. The sign was nearly rotted away by nature. The sign read, Shark Forest. The forest gave me a peculiar feeling as I entered. This was because there were no forest animals making noise or motion. Pietra Rivoli discusses about the t shirt that people wear everyday but not knowing the transformational factors hidden when making that t shirt globally. The roles that government play in the global work environment is that in today s world majority of businesses need to register with a state government to function. Corporations need a charter, and other forms of businesses, such as limited liability companies or partnerships, need other forms of registration. The purpose of this registration is usually to define the financial accountability the owners of the company have. In the first stanza we are introduced to the first two characters, Bess and the highwayman, who are deeply in love. In line 6, when the highwayman is being introduced, the reader finds out that he is riding up to the inn. In the second stanza, the poet describes some specifics only about the highwayman s appearance. Even though the highwayman is known as a robber, he acts like the hero in the story. This gives us a powerful visual image, and builds drama and tension. The ballad relies on the scary intensity of the night time and a dark old inn yard scene to keep the reader riveted. Gender Advertisements Erving Goffman Summary As well as feeding off of the sources and material presented earlier in this paper, the analysis to come will also use Erving Goffman s categorisation of gender to analyse how the women (and some men) are depicted on the front covers of Playboy and Good Housekeeping within said timeframe. In his study GenderAdvertisements (Goffman, 1985), Goffman gathered hundreds of advertisements from magazines in various positions and poses and analysed poses and how they portrayed masculinity versus femininity. His way of analysing advertisement differentiates itself and makes a broader distinction of what is considered sexist or not, by showing much like the Heterosexual Script earlier on in the paper, what was considered appropriate roles for men and women. In Goffman s analysis of advertisements he suggests several variables used when analysing a depiction of both men and women. Relative size suggests women are often positioned lower than a man, both in height and size, which can often also propose they are lower in both physical and social standard. Feminine touch shows women carefully caressing an object, or even themselves by touch. Showing a clear distinction between the utilitarian grip men usually have, and the decorative touch women more often have. This report pastes a comprehensive picture of the labor market, and perhaps in a broader sense provides a glimpse of the overall condition of the economy. Selected Indicator(s): Non Farm Payrolls Change Importance Household income is largely depended upon wages and salaries. If the household (workforce) earns more, it will spend more and businesses will produce more, thus increasing economic output. Conversely, if fewer people are working, we will have lower spending and economic activity will be reduced. It is this fundamental flow effect, which makes the employment report generate expectations about business sales and profits. Household (consumer) spending accounts for 2/3 of the U.S GDP, thus the employment report has the power to move both equity and bond markets and impact the U.S dollar. The Fed minutes from Dismal also reveal that the Fed takes due notice of the Employment situation. The Non farm payroll change number tells us how many jobs were added in since the last survey (monthly survey). Current Trend As the U.S. economy started to emerge out the 2008 recession payroll gains were witnessed in the later half of 2010 and overall a positive trend in payroll change i.e. payroll gains have remained intact ever since. Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, is a reflection of his unsettled relationship with his family and society. Franz Kafka creates a hideous creature, a monstrous insect, to show how he feels in his reality. Gregor, in Metamorphosis, is a tool for Kafka to psychoanalyze his perceived deficiency in society and communicate his contemplations on his meaning in life. Franz Kafka s estrangement from his family and society started early in his life. Franz Kafka was born on the third of July, 1883 in Prague. Kafka was the oldest child with three younger sisters and two brothers that died as infants. Prague was home to Czech people but at that time was controlled by the Austro Hungarian Empire. Kafka grew up in a German speaking Jewish family. Not many German Jews lived in Czech at that time and this alone may have played a part in his separation from society. He was also not very involved with Judaism. He knew all the Jewish customs but later considered himself a socialist atheist (Price, par. 4). Kafka s first language was Czech but after the age of six he went to a German speaking school and he became more fluent in the German language. Franz Kafka s father, Herman Kafka, was a wealthy merchant and was very repressive of Franz. Kafka s mother Julie Lowy Kafka was not able to protect him from his father. It means that the subject caused the action to happen, but didn t do it themselves. Maybe they paid, or asked, or persuaded the other person to do it. Causative verbs express an action which is caused to happen. In other words, when someone has something done for me him cause it to happen. In other words, he does not actually do anything, but asks someone else to do it for him. This is the sense of causative verbs. Here is a brief list of causative verbs, in no particular order: let, help, allow, have, require, allow, motivate, get, make, convince, hire, assist, encourage, permit, employ, force. Most of them are followed by an object (noun or pronoun) followed by an infinitive: She allows her pet cockatiel to perch on the windowsill. She hired a carpenter to build a new birdcage (Ibid:65 68) . Three causative verbs are exceptions to the pattern described above. Instead of being followed by a noun/pronoun and an infinitive, the causative verbs have, make and let are followed by a noun/pronoun and the base form of the verb (which is actually an infinitive with the to left off). Causative verbs also indicate that some person or thing helps to bring about a new state of affairs In other words, a causative verb shows that someone or something somehow causes something to happen. The third dimension is MAS, where masculinity cultures such as Japan, Austria, Venezuela value achievement and success; whereas femininity cultures such as Sweden and Norway stress caring for others, interpersonal relationships and quality of life. Regarding the MAS index, Crotts and Erdmann (2000) found visitors from less masculine cultures to be less critical and forgiving when evaluating travel services compared with visitors from more masculine cultures, who are more assertive and judgmental and evaluate airline service quality less positively and are less loyal to airlines. UAI reflects the extent to which people feel threatened by uncertainty or ambiguity and try to avoid these situations. Money and Crotts (2003) found that visitors from high uncertainty avoidance cultures (e.g. Greece) engage in significantly more risk or uncertainty reducing behaviors such as purchasing more often prepaid tour packages, travel in larger groups, stay for shorter periods, and visit fewer destinations than their low uncertainty avoidance German counterparts when traveling internationally. LTO refers to the preference for instant reward versus delayed reward. Countries such as Taiwan, Japan, South Korea are long term orientated and stress thrift, hard work, dedication and savings. During the first reinforcer preference assessment the client was asked questions of what activities she enjoyed doing (p.276). She answered hiking, watching T.V shows, watching movies, hanging out with friends and that she loves going out to eat. She was then asked to rank them in order of what she preferred: 1. Hiking, 2. Plants that experience shock will result in yellow or shriveled up leaves. It s important not to over fertilize during this period, and to keep the plant well watered. In the more severe cases, it is recommended that you remove the affected leaves so that they can grow back on their own. In conclusion, an elephant ear plant is a great addition to any garden, but they frequently fall prey to problems to insects, root rot, and transplant shock. With a little caution and care, these problems can be avoided entirely. TIPS As you can probably tell, when you plant elephant ear plants, they do require more work than many other varieties of plants. However, the resulting slice of rainforest decoration that the plants will lend your garden will be worth it. Once autumn arrives, towards its end, you ll need to dig the plants back up and store them if you want the bulbs to survive the winter. The best time to procure this plant is in the winter after the leaves have died. At that point, you can dig up the ear bulbs and place them in an area that is cool and dark until spring. Simply cover them with plenty of mulch to cover the possibilities of a cool spell ruining the bulb. Additionally, the soil should border on wet for these plants, meaning it should at least remain damp at all times, but you don t allow the soil to get too wet. As previously stated, it is important to have a proper drainage system. A mulching system will help the plants keep the moisture they need. Your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Similarities Between Lord Of The Flies And The Hunger Games District 12. Where you can starve to death in safety (6). This is a quote from the book The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins, and it is a prime example of the dystopian society the book is set in. Another book set in a dystopian society is Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. The Hunger Games is a book about a society where every year, 24 people are sent to fight to the death in the HungerGames. Lord of the Flies is about a big group of young children getting trapped on an island and having to figure out how to survive on their own without any adults. Both the novel Lord of The Flies and the book The Hunger Games present societies that are vicious and cruel, in similar settings, even though there are some differences between the two stories. One similarity between both books is the use of fire. At the beginning of Lord of the Flies fire is used to try to give a signal to passing ships that there are children trapped on the island. If a ship comes near the island they may not be able to notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (33). At the beginning of The Hunger Games fire is used to gain the Capitol s attention during the ceremony where all tributes ride on chariots. I want the audience to recognize you when you re in the arena, says Cinna dreamily. Katniss, the girl who was on fire (67). In both situations, fire is used to gain attention of people who will be able to help them in the future, whether it s giving them a gift during the Games, or rescuing them. However, later on in the stories fire is used differently. At the end of Lord of the Flies, Jack s group uses fire to try to burn down the forest in order to find and kill Ralph. The fire was a big one and the drum roll that he had thought had left so far behind was nearer (182). This quote is from a part when Ralph is hiding in the currently burning down forest, trying to escape from Jack. In The Hunger Games, fire is used to burn down part of the arena for the Games, in order to bring Katniss closer to the other tributes. This fire is designed to flush us out, to drive us together (173). One difference between the two books is the idea of unique appearances. In Lord of the Flies, there is the ... • 38. Chaucer s Canterbury Tales The Character of the Parson of Canterbury Tales Geoffrey Chaucer is considered by many critics as the father of English literature. His literary masterpiece was The Canterbury Tales. In these tales, Chaucer writes about pilgrims who are on a journey to Canterbury. Each pilgrim has a tale that they tell on this journey. Chaucer expresses themes and messages through the characterization of each pilgrim. Through the Parson, one of the pilgrims, Chaucer is able to portray the life of a true Christian through the general prologue, prologue to the Parson s tale, and the Parson s tale itself. Chaucer continues to praise and respect the Parson in the prologue to the Parson s tale. He writes on how the Parson declines not to tell a story, but rather to use the opportunity to preach to the other pilgrims. The Parson shows characteristics of living a Christian life through his efforts to spread the word. He chooses to enlighten the pilgrims of a true spiritual purpose rather than to entertain them with lavish stories. In addition, Chaucer shows how the Parson is clear minded in the prologue. The Parson is continuously focused on spreading the gospel and is not distracted but material things. He chooses a life of servant hood and virtue over wealth, fame, and glory In the Parson s tale itself, Chaucer is able to present the Parson s understanding of the earthly life. (survival of the fit) I believe that evolution and change over time does happen, but it happened after a creation. I will use the evidence to describe why evolution happens and how it happens. Adaptation is the act of changing the way you look or the way you act in order to survive and reproduce. Physical change is a type of adaptation. An example of a physical adaptation is the size of the finches beaks, or the whale s nostrils turning into a blow hole. Next, behavioral change is the other type of adaptation. Whales used to be land animals, but eventually changed their behavior and became water animals so they could find food. Evolution... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whales couldn t find any food on land so they adapted their behavior and eventually the way they look to survive in water. Each couple million years the fossils change. Whales started off looking sort of like a wolf. Then, after a while their back bone started to change. At one point whales almost looked like a seal. () Whales over time lost most of their fur, changed from paws to webbed feet to fins, and their nostrils changed into a blow hole. Whales probably adapted early on because some of them were dying off of they needed food so they went in the water to hunt some fish. They were most likely successful at this so they continued to do this, and evolved to make it easier. Whale evolution supports the theory of evolution because you can see the fossils, and how they changed. Also, you see the fossil record and timeline of the organisms. Because of this you see what they looked like, where they lived, and how the adapted. Scientists can make a fossil record of whales because of the rock layers and fossil record. The law of superposition says that any undisturbed sequence of rocks deposited in layers, which means scientists can look at those layers to create a fossil record.
