2. Friendship And Freedom In Sean Penn s Into The Wild
In American society, people fill their lives with work in hopes of securing a rewarding job and a
superb reputation often forgetting about their morals and happiness. Human beings from all social
classes aim for reaching success , forgetting some of the true ideals of life: friendship and
adventure. Chris Mccandless was repulsed by the modern western interpretation of happiness
because it is engulfed in material goods and capitalistic greed. Chris was raised in an upper class
family, that showed their love and support with belongings instead of tangible physical affection,
which in turn made Chris detest American materialism. Sean Penn, the director of Into The Wild,
depicts Chris s departure from the temporal world and his journey to ultimate freedom Alaska. The
movie illustrates both his journey to Alaska and his time in the wilderness. By flashing back and
forth between the two Penn illuminates the connections Mccandless or Alexander Supertramp as
the people he met knew him as made then he paired them to the difficulties he experienced when he
finally escaped society. The story Into the Wildportrays a young man s journey to become self
reliant in order to emphasize how capitalistic ideals corrupt people and taint the truth.
Chris values finding the truth and following his morals and he believes that society hinders himself
and others from perceiving the genuine truths of life. When talking to Jan and Rainey, two hippies

Many state public high schools in Michigan are progressing towards possibly allowing an open
campus lunch policy for its students. The trend would allow students to depart from school to a

high school students the choice to a better quality of healthy foodduring lunch could lead to higher
test scores. (Michael, Justin, Elizabeth. How the quality of schoollunch affects students academic

4. Biblical Theme Of The Old Testament V. New Testament
Thematic Biblical Theme
An Analysis of Son of Man perceptions in the Old Testament v. New Testament
Alejandro Londono
(Professor)

6 Nov 2014
The term Son of Man is translated differently by the prophets, apostles, and people of the Old
Testament when compared to how the term is viewed in the New Testament. In analyzing how the
terms are perceived during these times, it becomes possible to trace the theme of the Son of Man,
and how it was viewed in the Old Testament, to how the Son of Man has been viewed in the New
Testament. In observing these differences, one can clearly see the term had similar meanings, but
was represented in a different fashion, depending on the peoples and circumstances of the time
period. In analyzing these occasions in which the term Son of Man is used throughout the two
testaments, it will become clear as to their intended, and actual interpretations.
In the Old Testament, it is Ezekiel who is the protagonist, in a sense. This becomes apparent,
because Ezekiel plays such a vital role to the message behind the books of the Old Testament.
Ezekiel was a man as God had intended, and can also be viewed as the coming savior in the Old
Testament (Morris Henry, Ph.D., 1 3). The importance of Ezekiel is soon observed, and as
noticed in chapter 2, verse 1 of the book Ezekiel of the Old Testament, God commands Ezekiel to
stand, so that he may be commissioned as a prophet for the peoples of Israel (UcoG,

It all began on October 2002 where the International Accounting Standards Board and Financial
Accounting Board signed a memorandum of understanding that has come to be known as the
Norwalk Agreement . Here the two boards met and decided to make their standards fully
compatible and put it into practice and once they conquer their goal, they have to make sure it is
maintained. But before I divulge into details regarding the future and presently achieved goals of
the convergence, I would like to throw some light on the history and background of the two boards
involved. International Accounting Standards were formed between 1973 and 2001 by the board of

More commonly, switches from different manufacturers are inconsistent in the way they must be
configured to support 802.1X, particularly in how they handle mixed environments of 802.1X and
non 802.1X endpoints. This and other factors make initial configuration and ongoing management
of 802.1X in wired LANs very resource intensive and therefore expensive.
Wired LANs also tend to support a greater variety of legacy endpoints, many of which do not
support 802.1X supplicant software. The number of non 802.1X endpoints in wired LANs often
exceeds 802.1X capable ones. As mentioned above, it is challenging to configure different switches
(particularly in multivendor networks) to handle a mix of both 802.1X and non 802.1X endpoints.

Examples include devices such as those used for physical security in many facilities, including
surveillance cameras, ID card readers, entry keypads and the like.
Various industries such as manufacturing, retail, healthcare, energy and many others support unique
types of endpoints in their networks for which 802.1X supplicant software is not available. In many
environments, non 802.1X endpoints can far outnumber 802.1X capable ones.
As a result, a significant challenge for implementing 802.1X in many networks involves what to do
about all the non 802.1X endpoints and how to handle network connectivity for those devices.
There are options and workarounds, but each one involves compromise in terms of network security
and/or management complexity.

7. Mr. Fox Begins Essay
In life, we are susceptible to danger just about everywhere we go. Most people avoid danger at
all costs, however there are certain dare devils who will face danger head on. Have you ever
wondered if some people willingly put themselves in dangerous situations just to explore their
curiosity? If you had to take a guess, would you guess that men or women are more likely to
willingly enter dangerous situations? People will face danger for many different reasons, some
because they are not at all aware of the potential danger, and others do because their temptation is
too strong. In an initial reading, Oyeyemi s tale What Happens Next in her novel Mr. Fox begins
by telling the story of Mary Foxe s planeride back to London where she meets... Show more content

Was St. John Fox intent on speaking specifically to Mary Foxe on the plane ride? Or did Mary
Foxe just happen to be in the right place and at the right time? The way he enters the scene in the
novel is particularly strange and seems to alarm Mary Foxe. She describes his appearance like
this It seemed as he had addressed the words to me, so I opened my eyes. He was sitting to my
right, his whole body turned toward me, his chin on his fist as he studied me. I hadn t heard or
felt him draw near (Oyeyemi 149). The way St. John Fox snuck up on Mary Foxe so quietly
appeared to startle her, even though his intentions only appear to be to engage in casual
conversation by mentioning Only two hours until landing (Oyeyemi 149). Was this conversation
accidental or planned? His seemingly unimportant comment wasn t what appeared to bother
Mary Foxe. While describing his looks from her initial glance up at him, she said He was good
looking. Enough to make me feel uncomfortable. Tall and dark, etc. (Oyeyemi 149). Mary Foxe
specifically stated that St. John Fox made her feel uncomfortable solely based off of his looks,
proving the earlier alternate interpretation of the chapter to be correct that she did at one point see
potential danger in St. John Fox. However, there is no strong evidence to support that she was
extremely bothered by slyness. Another piece of evidence that supports the claim that St. John Fox
had specific intentions of connecting with Mary Foxe

What is the Doctrine of Double Effect?
The doctrine of double effect if often invoked to explain the permissibility of an action that
causes a serious harm, such as the death of a human being, as a side effect of promoting good
ends. It is claimed that sometimes it is permissible to cause such harm as a side effect of bringing
about a good result even though it would not be permissible to cause such harm as a means to
bringing about the same good end. The reasoning is summarized with the claim that sometimes it is
permissible to bring about as merely foreseen side effect a harmful event that it would be

Though international trade of fibers and textiles has influenced cultures throughout history,

18. Zechariah Essay
Zechariah
Zechariah is one of the Minor Prophets of the Old Testament. His book is located between the
books of Haggai and Malachi. Zechariah is thought to have preached from about 520 518 B.C.
The book of Zechariah deals with the restoration of Jerusalem, the Temple, and God s people.
Chapter 11 verses 4 17, which is a story of two shepherds, is one of the most difficult passages in
the Old Testament to understand. From the New Living Translation, the passage reads as follows:
4 This is what the LORD my God says: quot;Go and care for a flock that is intended for slaughter.

is certain for this worthless shepherd who abandons the flock! The sword will cut his arm and
pierce his right eye! His arm will become useless, and his right eye completely blind! quot; The
commentary Obadiah through Malachi begins by commenting on the ambiguous nature of the
passage. This vague language makes it very difficult to interpret; thus the details remain elusive.
The author feels that this passage goes in accordance with the earlier situation described in
Zechariah 10:3. In both passages it is made clear that the leaders (shepherds) of Israel have made
the Lord angry. Zechariah is describing the social disorder and the peoples dishonesty toward each
other that has overwhelmed the community before it will be restored by God. This commentary is
certain that the doomed flock is in fact Israel, but is unsure whom the sheep merchants represent.
Their guess is that they may be the workers in the temple who have hired Zechariah. The shepherd
is understood as symbolizing a ruling, most likely a prophetic one. Zechariah is telling his
audience that Israel is in total disarray and the leaders aren t doing anything to help, in fact some
are making the situation worse. God is permitting the corruption by sitting on His hands. While
doing so, he stresses the need for repentance so the corrupt community may be restored. The prophet

the people they love. The short story was named Killings because it not only focuses on two deaths
but the multiple types of death and different aspects of it. Reading the short story Killings and
watching the film In the BedroomI noticed many differences between the two. For example in the

Frank was the only child. I believe the direction Todd Fieldmade this change because he wanted us
to focus on the idea of how painful it to lose a child, and how it can affect the relationship
between the parents. I honestly thought that was really smart of the director to do since it made
us feel how hard it most of been for Matt and Ruth to lose their only child. And how losing Frank
made their love for each other kind of disappear. Another differences between the short story and
the film was that in Killings the story started off at Frank funeral and later flashback of what had
occurred. In the film In the Bedroom the story started from the beginning with Frank and his lover
Natalie running in a field, which kind of made the story plot go in chronological order.

20. Three Phases Of The Hero s Journey
Greek mythology stories show Heroes that are great leaders, strive for glory, and are brave
beyond compare. The heroes in the stories teach lessons about Greek culture and make people
strive to be like them. The story of Hercules has been re told for many years because it follows
the Hero s Journey and shows Greek cultural values. Hercules was one of the greatest stories that
followed the Heros Journey storyline. The story shows strong character development and shows
readers what it means to be a hero. The Hero s Journey storyline consists of three phases; the
departure, the initiation, and the return. These phases appear in most Greek myths and help make

While completing tests the Hero learns qualities about themselves and learns the skills to
complete the tasks at hand. Hercules finds hidden qualities deep inside himself that help him
figure out how to beat the task at hand. He finds that there is more to himself than just strength
and power. He is also cunning and intelligent. Hercules completes the tasks at hand in this stage
and the tasks help shape his character. Hercules learns a little from each task which helps his
character build. A key example of this is how Hercules handled cleaning the Augean stables. He
decided it was not possible to clean the stables himself because the mares dung kept coming so
he decided to wash out the feces with the rivers Alpheus and Peneus. Hercules finds his great
character flaw in the 5th labor. This flaw is his wild temper. Augeas was furious that Hercules
completed the task and he had to give one tenth of his cattle to Hercules. Augeas decided to
dishonor their previous agreement so Hercules killed him and stole all the cattle for himself. This
was an action of rage not logic and hurt his chances of getting credit for the task. He learned from
this because his cousin, King Eurystheus, made Hercules do another task because he did not
manually remove the waste from the stables and he killed Augeas. Hercules discovered his
character traits and flaws in the initiation phase which prepared him for the return phase of a Hero s

Essay:
In Robert Cormier s novel, We All Fall Down, is a young adult thriller that explores the evil side of
humanity through a number of corrupt characters. Cormier, to a large extent, accurately depicts
manipulative and dishonest behaviour whilst also showing the evil lurking within the prominent
characters of Harry Flowers, Buddy Walker and Mickey Stallings who showcase the dark side of
humanity. Cormier explores this through Harry Flower s manipulative actions that result in the
suffering of others. Additionally, the constant dishonest behaviour is shown predominantly through
the main protagonist of Buddy Walker, who deceives the one he loves. Cormier continues to depict

In conjunction with Buddy s thoughts in italics emphasises his allowance for Harry to control his
thoughts. Proving that people in society such as Harry Flowers, are clear examples of the evil
lurking within humanity and that not everyone is good. Furthermore, Harry is able to escape
justice and selflessly takes the blame. However, his true intentions were to take control of Buddy s
life and allow him to live in fear. Harry condescendingly hides his true motives in saying, Admit it,
Buddy. You thought Harry would blow the whistle on you and Mary and Randy. (p.104). The use of
third person narrative clearly shows Harry s dominance over Buddy and his ability to easily
manipulate any situation. By saying, admit it, Buddy he torments Buddy throughout the novel into
thinking that he would blow the whistle on him and the others. By using a variety of positioning
techniques, Cormier depicts a manipulative and tormenting character of Harry Flowers.
Cormier continues to successfully depict morally corrupt characters, such as Buddy Walker and his
consistent dishonest behaviour. Buddy begins his relationship with Jane because of his
overwhelming guilt about the night of the trashing. He becomes obsessed with her and is
convinced on absolving his guilt, this is evident when he anonymously calls Jane, He had not given
the picture another thought until: Hello. And then: Who is this? (p.118). The binary opposition is

Reflection I first learned to hate the criminal justice system through juvenile graffiti around New
Haven. I admired the rebellion of the rushed handwriting comparing cops to pigs on walls and
flowing anarchist symbols. The fight against the police system was first rooted in teenage angst
rather than real frustration. My friends and I would sing along to punk songs written by train
hoppers about how corrupt capitalists and policewere and I gleefully claimed to be a communist,
without really knowing what any of this rebellion really meant. As I grew up I began to see
injustice in a much more real and concerning light, far beyond the mindless slogans. I would
listen in horror as my friends from New Haven told stories of being handcuffed and put on the
ground for merely being parked in a Target parking lot after closing time. Meanwhile, my white
classmates would tell stories of countless just warnings from the police. As I learned more from
both the perspectives of my friends and the media these inequities seemed to become grossly
unjust. However I had always seen this through a second hand lense, my friends, the media,
everything seemed so far away from my home. My privilege kept me safe from every encountering
the real consequences of the oppressive state. Although I empathized heavily with these issues, I
had the option to disengage from activism at anytime. Throughout this class I have met people who

28. Review Of The Things They Carried
JANIELLE DUMAPIT
THE THINGS THEY CARRIED ESSAY: Role of Women in the Novel The Things They Carried
by Tim O Brien contains many themes involving the impact of war, which are very prevalent in
the lives of the soldiers and Tim himself; their very being in the war influences their thoughts and
actions. Because of the nature of the war, these stories revolve around men and how their direct
contact with the war changes their lives. While it is easy for women to be omitted from a story
about war, especially the VietnamWar, O Brien still incorporates them into his. In the novel The
Things They Carried, there are very few women represented in both passing and the direct action;
however, these women are used to allow the reader to further understand major messages about war:
hope and motivation to persevere, the change that people undergo, and the general pointlessness of
it.
Several women characters are not directly in the action of the novel; however, their purpose is to
give the soldiers hope, which is evident through their mementos and keepsakes. O Brien opens up
the novel with an explanation of how much Martha means to Jimmy Cross by writing, First
Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letters from a girl named Martha, a junior at Mount Sebastian
College in New Jersey. They were not loveletters, but Lieutenant Jimmy Cross was hoping, so he
kept them folded in plastic at the bottom of his rucksack (O Brien 2). Letters, more specifically

30. Relationship Between Vocabulary And Reading Comprehension
Purpose
Research conducted by the National Reading Panel shows that there is a relationship between
vocabulary and reading comprehension. The relationship between vocabulary and reading
comprehension prompted researchers to recommend educators to identify students in the early
grades with low language and vocabulary, and to intervene as soon as possible to prevent later
reading comprehension difficulties. Once educators are awareness of the students that have low
language and vocabulary, interventions should be implemented to target vocabulary development
(p.308).
A strategy identified to build vocabulary is read alouds. A read aloud is an oral readingdone by the
teacher that builds background knowledge, vocabulary and comprehension. Research shows that
although read alouds enhance vocabulary it does not close the vocabulary gap. It is suggested that
the addition of extended instruction in the form of a small group could close the vocabulary gap.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between small group instruction and
vocabulary development and reading comprehension. The author hypothesizes that students with
low vocabulary and comprehension skills will improve from extended small group instruction
(p.309).
Method
The study included 106 first graders from 18 classrooms in nine Title I schools in the Pacific
Northwest. Fifty four students were in the experiment group and received small group instruction,
and fifty two students were in the control group.

Research Approach
Every researcher adopts a specific approach for his research study, which is very important step
in every research. There are mainly two research approaches, inductive and deductive by looking
to the research onion of Saunders et al (2009, p. 108). In inductive approach, researchers use their
findings for the generation of theory. Theory is a term which can be use in different ways and in
qualitative research researcher use this term about the explanation of observations. Inductive
approach allows the researcher in previous literature and finds the new research question, where he
comes up with the new theory after the analyzing. While deductive studies, use theory deductively
and places it in the very beginning of the study. With the objective of testing or verifying a theory

Any society that abuses children should crumble .Sparta was an ancient Greek city state. They

they abused their children and their society did not last more than 300 years.
To begin with, The Spartans lacked education. In document D the text states, [The Spartans]

Vaccines; a more than spectacular development of science which has prevented countless

to a specific cause or reason. Because of this uncertainty, disgruntled parents have chosen to believe
ideas with no scientific backing behind them besides what discredited scientist Wakefield said in a

This can be seen in examples of tiny home owners. Andrea Tremols spends only five to ten
dollars every month on her electric bill. This is a huge difference comparing both House A and
House B. Imagine living in Tremols house and only paying 5 dollars a month compared to $50
$150 every month. She pays only about 10 percent of what House A and House B pays. Tremols
saves a lot of money and resources(Cook 2016). House A is a little over double in size and it
shows in both the gas and electric bill. The electric bill for House A is often more than twice the
cost for House B. Although that has a lot to do with the number of people living in a home,
things like lighting for a large home can increase electricity costs. Gas is used in each case to
heat the houses. Heating and cooling a larger house is bound to cost more and that was seen
with the two different house evaluated. House B stayed fairly consistent maintaining a cost
somewhere in the 40 dollar range. House A on the other hand averaged around 60 dollars per
month. That is an average of a 20 dollar difference between the cost for House A and the cost for
House B. It is clear that a smaller home can greatly decrease your expenditures on electricity and
gas, but that is not the only decreasing amount seen with smaller homes. When individuals use less
electricity and gas there is less need to create these resources. This can benefit the Earth greatly.

student with a visual impairment. There are many resources a teacher can refer to in order to
determine the visual and academic ability of a student with a visual impairment. It is always best
to consult the primary source, the student, who often knows what their needs are. It is important to
form a relationship with the student because they will feel more comfortable expressing those
needs to their teacher. Another helpful source are parents and guardians, they live with their child,
therefore know their strengths and weaknesses, as well as understand the child more. Parents
might also be able to inform the teacher on what works best for their child. Teachers should also
look over their student s individualized education program (IEP), which will have a lot of useful
information. For example, the IEP will describe a child s strengths and weaknesses, academic goals,
instructional and physical accommodations and/or modifications, and a list of additional services
and/or assistive technology devices. Furthermore, traditional teachers can consult with a teacher for
the visually impaired (TVI) who can suggest strategies that will help the student learn more
effectively. The last resources, includes an orientation and mobility (O M) specialist, who helps
visually impaired students navigate in the classroom and at school, such as on the playground and
in the cafeteria. 2.Explain why

43. Nietzsche On The Genealogy Of Morality
Friedrich Nietzsche, an extremely controversial thinker of his time, was an outspoken critic of
German nationalism, anti Semitism, and religious dogmatism (Kellner). Indubitably, Nietzsche has
had a great impact on the improvement of twentieth century social thought. Key ideas from
Nietzsche are included in the following: The Gay Science, On the Genealogy of Morality and
Beyond Good and Evil. In the Gay Science, Nietzsche presents the famous image of the madman
declaring Godis dead... and we have killed him . Much of Nietzsche s work problematizes
Christianity and urges humanity to rethink the basis of morality. The artful self stylization that may
be implied by this is also suggested, and how to live without religious certainty. After the loss of
religionas a guide and path to follow in his time, Nietzsche acknowledged the need for direction
and understood that this could be possible by creating certain values for society to accept and follow.

Nietzsche spoke of people that fell short of such originality as herd animals , moderns... [who]
possess nothing which is truly ours (Nietzsche, 1886). In addition, he critiqued modernity for
inhibiting the creation of liberated, more contented, and individuals of good health. Referring to the
modern culture as barbaric (Nietzsche, 1887), he suggested that a higher form of culture could be
obtained through free spirited individuality and the process of self overcoming. Nietzsche proposed
that we are the creature and creator of ourselves. In order to attain this higher form of culture and
individuality, the creature with brutality instincts within us must be conquered. We must self
examine and assess ourselves in order to become improved

44. The Human Tissue Act 2008 Essay
Background
Currently in New Zealand the major law regarding the donation of organs is the Human Tissue
Act 2008 introduced by the then labour government s Minister of Health David Cunliffe. The bill
received support from both Labour and National members and in its second reading received 115
votes for and only 3 votes against (while 3 members were not present for the vote) the three votes
against can be attributed to opposition from 3 of the 4 Maori party members due to cultural values
tikanga ДЃ iwi, Mana and Tapu The Human Tissue Act 2008 prohibits the sale and advertisement
of any human tissue which includes organs without written permission at the discretion from
whomever is acting as the Minister of Health. So far the only reported case (of which all
exemptions must be reported in the Gazette) is the paired kidney donation scheme allowing viable
living donors that wish to donate to a family or friend that is incompatible with their kidney to
donate to another who is in the same position. This effectively facilitates a non monetary trade
between two donors to ensure the chosen recipients receive a kidney that will work for them.
Currently a shortage is occurring between the supply of viable organs collected from living donors
and from the deceased and the demand required from those on the waiting list. Organs that can be
provided from living donors include Kidneys, liver segments, some of your lung and Pancreas but
of all the organs that greatest shortage that exists is

45. Paradise Lost Satire Essay
Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained as Epics of Political Satire under the Guise of Spiritual Epics:
A Critical Inquiry
Abstract
The paper points out the intention of Satire and inquires into the biographical, historical,
sociological, religious, economic, political and literary contexts of John Milton s Paradise Lost
(1667) and Paradise Regained (1671). It underscores the poignant example of John Dryden s verse
satire, Absalom and Achitophel (1681), which is modelled on John Milton s political epics. It also
traces the biographical, historical, sociological, religious, economic, political and literary reasons
for the outbreak of the English civil war. Thus, it points out the mutual bond that exists between
society and literature, and renders a historical reading of the literary works taken for analysis by
exploring the possible purposes with which these texts have been written and the ways in which the
meanings of these texts have changed over time owing to multiple interpretations.

46. Loan Proposal For Payday Loans
What if you were down on your luck, and short a couple hundred dollars for an electricity bill,
and the power company was threatening to turn off your power and none of your friends or
family members could help you out? What if you went to your employer and asked for an
advance on your pay, and they denied you? With the looming threat of losing power and the fees
laid on top to get reconnected, it may be easy to lose hope. There is, however, an entire financial
industry set up to help with such problems. A payday lender is probably nearby that will provide
you a small, short term loanto help you get back on your feet. Payday loans come in many forms,
but generally speaking, they are small ($375 on average), short term (one to two weeks), high
interest (391% API average) loans. Advocates for payday loans argue that the loans are available
for people who have emergencies like sudden medical expenses, and are available when alternate
sources of money are unavailable, or when the alternatives may be more expensive. Opponents of
payday loans point out the fact that a broad majority of payday loans are not used for unexpected
expenses, but are rather used for recurring expenses. Opponents also argue that, while the loans are
advertised as being short term, in reality, a significant fraction of customers use payday loans
repeatedly, and get trapped in a cycle of debtthat is exploitative. These people argue for state and
sometimes federal regulations to curb the exploitative

47. The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication
The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health
Information Services (HIS) Departments when new technology or changes have to be implemented.
My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting
applied in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the
outcomes of job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on
motivation and communication in the HIS department?
The first thing we will examine if the principle of goal setting and how it is applied is this case.
Goals give an organization a vision and a direction in which to move. Goals setting by
organizations can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order
for job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them.
Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The
benefits are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when
implementing such a technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat
because there are added task, responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe
to be a common motivator; however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more
responsibility, and more accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is
the result because their chief complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that
can be combated with job enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and
low moral. There are plenty of risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is
overload which is already a complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern
of the Human Resources (HR) Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and
responsibility comes the question of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to
oversee the pay grade of the organization. An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing
and credentialing. Adding tasks to a job that requires additional

48. Quotes In The Handmaids Tale
Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have
children by her ( Genesis 30:1 2). In the beginning of the science fiction novel, The Handmaid s
Tale, Margaret Atwood introduces her book with five different quotes. Every quote relates to
what is going to occur in the novel. Atwood uses this quote at the beginning of the novel to
foreshadow that certain characters in the novel will be forced to fulfill certain roles. In the
novel, The Handmaid s Tale, the actions of Offred and the willingness of people of Gilead to
accede roles they are not satisfied with, shows how fear of exile leads to destruction of morals. In
the novel The Handmaid s Tale, Offred s fear of getting sent to the colonies makes her act against

One of the characters is Janine. Janine also serves the role of a Handmaid. Offred met Janine
when they were at the Red Center. The Red Center is where they train the Handmaids for their

Later on in the novel, we discover that That is how Ofwarren did it (Atwood 205). Janine got
pregnant from a doctor not her Commander. Many women try to conceive this way because their
Commander cannot have kids anymore due to their age, it is forbidden to say something like
this. Only The Handmaids are unable to conceive. Nick is another character. He has the role of a
Guardian, he serves the Commander of Offred. Nick later on in the novel becomes Offred s
lover. After Serena Joy offers Offred to get pregnant by Nick, she arranges things so they can be
alone. In their time together, Nick informs Offred that there should be No romance (Atwood 262).
