History
ERP started in twenty-first century, 1990s
ERP technology was evolving to embrace the internet, with new features and functionality such
as embedded analytics.
Both the hardware and the software licenses required capital investments and depreciated over 5
to 10 years.
As time went on, many organizations discovered that their on-premises ERP systems couldn’t
keep up with modern security demands or emerging technologies such as smartphones.
Today:
• It delivers the service in the cloud, instead company's server room.
• it provides patches, manages, and updates the software several times a year, instead 5-10
years costly upgradation
• It reduces both Operational expenses (OpEx) and capital expenses (CapEx) because it
eliminates the need for companies to software, hardware or hire IT staff.
Software-as-a-service (Saas) delivery model for ERP
• AI, digital assistants, machine learning, block chain, augmented reality and internet of
things (IoT)
