CAMERA – CANON 700D
In order to capture footage I will need to use a camera. I have decided to a Canon 700D as I
am familiar with its interface and usability. The camera has a higher frame rate and filming
resolution than the 600D which will enable me to consistently produce high quality imagery.
The live view display makes it very easy to manually focus the shots that are desired, ensuring
that the footage is to an above satisfactory quality and matches the creator’s (me) vision. The
touch screen makes it easy to review footage on set, cutting down time on the shoot as I can
make sure that I am happy with the footage or can re-shoot the shot instantly after. All of
these bonuses will help me to produce a better, more professional quality music video.
SD CARD
To store all of my captured footage I will need an SD Card. The SanDisk
brand is a very established, reliable brand which I am confident will help
me not lose footage. I have decided to use a 32GB SD Card as it will allow
me to store the footage captured on the camera, so that I can review
previous shot to help continuity of the video and the fluidity of the
transitions. A larger memory will also allow me to simultaneously capture
photographs that I can use for my digipack as well as footage for my
music video.
TRIPOD
In my music video I plan to use a variety of shots, some handheld but a
majority of them need to be steady to enable me to capture still imagery.
Therefore I will be using a Velbon CX-888 tripod for the shots that require
stability. The tripod is appropriate for the locations that I plan on shooting
in as it has adjustable legs to make sure that the camera is level on uneven
terrain. The camera also has a handle that is used to create smooth pan
shots, something that I wish to utilise in my music video.
SHOULDER MOUNT
As well as having stable, fixed shots I also intend to include shots with movement
in. I could use a dolly to ensure that the shot is smooth, however I like the
aesthetic gained from a handheld shot as they feel more authentic and help to
create a sense of motion (something that will help to create intensity of the
flashbacks). I could shoot these shots handheld, but I feel that they may come out
too shaky, therefore I shall utilise the function of a shoulder mount to make my
‘handheld’ shots more stable. I have used this piece of equipment before and it is
very adaptable, from tracking shots to creating motion – I think that this will
make my video more interesting to the audience through a diversity of shot types.
