Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See
Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements
of his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying what you see is what you
see. In the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are
prominent for their semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular
motto, what you see is what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous
masterpiece.
Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very
commonly, Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were
painted on semi circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that
were composed on shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below.

Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is what you see, it
can be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical
tool. When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of
different hues he chose and the intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank
Stella traveled to the Middle

Homework in Moderation is Good Essays
Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing?
Homework has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth
century. At first, homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people
enjoyed that learning could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in
the forties, Professor H. J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homeworkdoes not result in sufficiently
improved academic accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the
United States feared that Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to
be unnecessary to complete. This incident has partially shaped our nation to... Show more content

In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used
because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can
be improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that
homework has on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections:
immediate achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and
greater parental appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains
that one s learning can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better
critical thinking, greater concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and
better retention of factual knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term
academic benefits, homework allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an
improved attitude toward school can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish
homework can classwork in more efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered
one of the more important ones because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of
an academic enthusiast, but also for others, who do not focus on studying academic related
subjects. For instance, according to Cooper s studies, he has found that self direction,

Liver Injury Research Paper
Liver plays a central role in transforming and clearing chemicals and is consequently susceptible to
the toxicity induced from these agents. Chemicals that cause liver injury are termed hepatotoxins,
and more than 900 drugs have been implicated in causing liver injury and it is the most common
reason for a drug to be withdrawn from the market. Chemicals often cause subclinical injury to liver
which may be manifest by abnormal liver enzyme tests. Certain medicinal agents when taken in
overdoses and sometimes even when introduced within therapeutic ranges may injure the organ.
Other chemical agents such as those used in laboratories and industries, natural chemicals (e.g.
microcystins) and herbal remedies can also induce hepatotoxicity (e.g. Lycopodiumserratum and
Ephedra equisetina).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Approximately 75% of blood reaching the liver arrives directly from gastrointestinal organs and
then spleen through portal veins which bring drugs and xenobiotics in concentrated form.
Numerous mechanisms may be cited to be responsible for either inducing hepatic injury or
worsening the damage process. Although the exact mechanism of hepatic injury remains largely
unknown, it appears to involve 2 pathways direct hepatotoxicity and adverse immune reactions. In
most instances, hepatic injury is initiated by the bioactivation of drugs to chemically reactive
metabolites, which have the ability to interact with cellular macromolecules such as proteins, lipids,
and nucleic acids, leading to protein dysfunction, lipid peroxidation, DNA damage, and oxidative

Biography of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Introduction Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who is more popularly known as Mahatma
Gandhi, was born on October 2nd, 1869 and passed away on January 30th, 1948. He was the
most popular leader of the Indian nationalist movement during the British rule that lasted for
nearly a century in India. He was the most adamant supporter of the non violent civil
disobedience and was the leader that inspired the move towards independence and civil rights
amongst the Indians. Gandhi was born on the coastal regions of Gujarat in a Hindu Bania
community in the family of a senior government official Karamchand Gandhi. His mother Putlibai
was his father s fourth wife. The first three wives died during child birth. His mother was a Jain
and Gandhi was strongly influenced by Jain traditions and customs (Erikson, 1969). He studied
law abroad in London. His very first effort towards social change was on return to India in 1915.
Prior to his return, he worked in South Africa for the civil rights of the Muslims and Hindus in the
region. This was where he first experimented with the new techniques of non violent efforts towards
change. While he was in South Africa, he also dedicated his time towards voicing non violently
against the numerous legislatures that existed against the Indians. These were the techniques he
then also applied when returning to India when supporting peasants to fight against the extreme
land taxes in the region (Erikson, 1969). He was never a supporter of communalism and

Alternate Septic System
If you don t have city sewage you probably have a septic system. A septic system is a system that
treats removes and disposes of water. Usually this water is from homes and businesses. Septic
systems are responsible for the removal of water waste. If it is working properly it will safely
remove filtered water out of harms way and back into the aquifer. If a septic system is not working
properly it can be dangerous it may cause the near by water table to overflow causing flooding and
water contamination. If this occurs people often must resort to an alternative septic system.
An alternative septic system is simply a different system than the traditional system. In a traditional
septic system the water from the house leads into the septic tank where bacteria is broken down and
eventually it forms three different layers. The bottom layer is made up of solids, this layer is
called sludge, a middle layer is liquid with some organic matter, and a top with floating solids.
Devices called baffles allow the middle layer of the tank to flow out into a perforated pipe and it
takes it to a far away field. This safely removes harmful water from nearby houses. The remainder
of the waste stays in the tank for further break down. That is how a traditional drainfield system
works. If this septic system is not suited for ones property due to the geography of the land or
limited space one may need to use an alternate septic system. There are many types of alternative
septic systems some of

William Tell Argumentative Essay
Some people think William was a hero and some think he was an outlaw. William did not obey
the law or bow down to a king so some people say he is bad. Other people think that he did not
bow down because he was an evil king. He also saved Switzerland. I think that William Tell was
an amazing hero that is not afraid. He did not bow to a king. The king made him almost kill his
son and he killed a king. William Tell did not bow to a king. A long time ago an evil king sent a
hat on a pole to the village. He told everyone to bow to it. Everyone bowed to him even though
they did not want to. Everyone bowed to him except William. William did not want to bow to an
evil king. An evil king did not deserve to be bowed to. Soon after that the king found out that he
did not bow to his hat he was very mad. He decided that he needed to get him back so that
everyone would know that he was powerful and they needed to do what he said. Since he was a

want a chance to hurt his son. William was scared but, his son trusted him. Then the king made

he had not gotten hurt. Then another arrow came out from his jacket. They king asked what it

To put it in another way; as society expects more from corporations, the activities from the frontier
quadrant, those that companies do to be socially responsible above and beyond what they are
required to do, shift to the lower foundation quadrant and become norms and laws. It s important to
note that activities in the instrumental civil foundation add to shareholder and stakeholder value.
Frontier Quadrants Intrinsic The top two quadrants of the matrix are called the strategic and
structural frontiers. Taken together they comprise the upper level and are called the frontier
intrinsic or voluntary activities. Activities here are defined by Martin to be those that have a
negative or not immediately apparent positive effect on shareholder value. He goes on to say that
activities in the strategic quadrant may increase shareholder value and become instrumental (move
to the choice quadrant of the foundation) by generating positive reactions from customers,
employees, or legal authorities. It s important to understand that actions in the upper left strategic
quadrant are by choice of corporation management as part of profit making strategy. Over time,
these socially responsible activities can move to the civil foundation as other companies imitate the
actions and as customers come to expect the behavior as it becomes the norm. It s important to

The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic...
Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases
due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe
drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used
historical precipitationand temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate
models to attempt to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the
frequency of drought years has doubled, without any significant change in the trends of
precipitation variability. This was attributed to significant increases in positive temperature
anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation deficits leading to more occurrences of
drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by 2030, the region will transition to a
regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will coincide with warmer conditions,
increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the first time this region has
experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the drought has been this
severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013 the water demand is
similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new short term water
conservation ideas.

Father of New France, Samuel de Champlain Essay example
Samuel de Champlain, who is referred to as the Father of New France, was born in the Brouage,
Saintonge province, Western France. He was born to a protestant family around 1570. His
father Anthoine de Champlain was a sea captain. The fact that his father worked in the high sea
as a navigator, gave Samuel a strong desire to be a sailor and an explorer. This came when he
was barely twenty years, under the guide of François Grave, he made his first voyage trip to the
North America. Samuel Champlain never acquired a formal education in either Greek or Latin
literature, but he learnt to navigate, drawing art of nautical charts, and writing. He also learnt the

He formed strong alliances some tribes such as Wendat, Algonquin and Montagnais. These tribes
live around Saint Lawrence River. The tribes demanded that Champlain must lead them in war
against the Iroquois tribe. The Iroquois inhabited the south area of Richelieu River. The Iroquois
had an alliance with England and Dutch, and thus had superior troops. They had an interest on the
fur trade that put the two colonies in friction over the control of the trade. They frequently attacked
the French and the tribes in alliance with them to push them trade the fur to the Dutch and English
tradesmen. Champlain set off with French troops and native warriors to explore the area and as a
result Champlain drew the map of Lake Champlain. During the exploration some Iroquois natives
advanced in against Champlain men and war broke up. The battle was put to an end after
Champlain and his soldiers killed three chiefs of the Iroquois. This strained the French Iroquois
relations further but later Champlain negotiated for a treaty that reconciled the two sides. New
France, is a term that was used to refer to the area that the French colonized in the North America.
Jacques Cartier, Samuel Champlain and other early explorers opened up new routes along St.
Lawrence River to allow further exploration works into the North America territories. Champlain
explored other places down to the Lake Champlain building up settling areas.

World Trade Organization ( Wto )
World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international institution that supervises and ensures the
executions of trade agreements and treaties among economic entities. Its headquarter is located in
Geneva (Switzerland). It was called Economic UN for its status of international trade. The volumes
of trade of the members have become the majority international trade. It is the maker, supervisor and
executor of multilateral trade treaties and agreements. It is an important place to settle trade
disputes. It is an influential participant in the international economic cooperation with other global
institutions and one of the most important international organizations.
WTO was born out of the negotiations called the Uruguay Round and earlier negotiations under the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade(GATT) on 15th April 1994, aiming at cover the shortages
of GATT. GATT, the product of international free trade, is the predecessor of WTO, which was an
intergovernmental agreement about the rules of tariffs and trade signed on 30th October 1947.
However, it had been an interim agreement but not a formal international institution since it came
into force, which had hugely limited its processes of executions. Firstly, it lacked of legal binding
and powerful measures. Secondly, the interim agreement had some grey area, which cause the
agreement could not be implemented accurately. Finally, GATT discriminated different social
systems. With eight multilateral tariff and trade negotiations

Barbie and the Notion of Progression Since the emergence of the Barbie doll in 1959, Barbie has
been a populous choice among young children, and more specifically young girls because of its
monopolization of the toy market. Barbie is a doll that has been outwardly controversial and

Gender Inequality In Country Music
Walking the Line of Gender Inequality Country music is a staple of American culture, however it
does not properly represent over half of its audience. Female musicians in the country music genre
are heavily outweighed by their male counterparts in terms of radio airplay and sales. Why do the
successful country music artists not reflect the demographic of the audience? Has representation of
each genderin country music always been as skewed as it is today? Femaleartists in country music
should receive the same opportunities or treatment from the industry that maleartists do.

Commercially, some women have experienced extreme success while under the country music

last country album was the most lucrative tour in North America that year, bringing in more than

Display Rules And Aggression Analysis
Society can play a big role in gender differences. According to our culture/society, men are strong
and stoic and women are mushy and cry far too easily. Bardwick(1971) says that women are
entitled to greater emotional freedoms. According to Brody (2000), we all interact and express
emotions in accordance with display rules . Display rules are rigid social norms that dictate how,
when, and where emotions can be expressed by men and women. An example rule may be
something like boys should not cry or girls should not be aggressive. Furthermore, he states that
these rules are acquired via social interactions (Brody 2000). Men tend to bottle up their emotions;
this is referred to as restrictive emotionality (Jansz, 2000). Jansz argues

The Historical Landmarks Of Jerusalem
While the present day Jerusalem flourishes with the pilgrims attracted by the city s religious
significance and the tourists intrigued by its historical landmarks, it was merely a minor city state
in the ancient times. However, rather than a miracle that had occurred overnight, the social and
economic status of Jerusalemwas obtained through a process of evolution, the early parts of which
were recorded in the Hebrew Bible, which is a collection of narratives based on genuine historical
events while centering its stories on divine power. In the case of Jerusalem, the Bible provides
intricate accounts of religiously significant events that were in sync with the stages of Jerusalem s
development, starting with King Davids choice to designate the city as the capital of the United
Monarchy, and culminating around the time of Solomon s construction of the First Temple, as
well as the fall of the city to the Babylonians. Through these references to the Bible, which
centralize early events of the Israelite religious history in the city of Jerusalem, it is unequivocal
that not only has Jerusalem affected the religious society of the Israelites, but the evolution of the
city into a political and spiritual capital is also related to the religious events that took place in the
city. To examine the connection between religion and space, Thomas Tweed introduces a model in
his short essay Space , which defines the characteristics of religious spaces like Jerusalem

A Long, Enduring History
The planet that we reside on has a long, enduring history. Today, remnants can still be found that
tell the history of the land, and of its inhabitants; many of these remnants, however, have been
destroyed over time. The Bamiyan Valley in Afghanistan has a rich and complicated history that
continues up to the present day. The residents of Bamiyan live neighboring a wall of cliffs,
speckled with caves. Bordering the city on each side, two abandoned niches are carved into the
cliff face, each towering over 100 meters. These great niches once held two Buddha statues that
looked out over the Bamiyan Valley, but now stand empty. Once a witness to the history of the area,
these Buddhas were destroyed in 2001 when the Taliban, a terrorist group, destroyed them due to
their religious imagery. Since their destruction, the international community has risen up in protest,
and endless discussions on its reconstruction have been hashed out as further studies are done on
the remains. The interaction with religious ideology complicates and stigmatizes the situation,
causing many discussions to go nowhere. The Bamiyan Buddhas hold significant cultural value,
providing not only a religious sanctuary for many, but also by attracting travelers with their
beauty. By leaving the niches empty, we risk the well being of the Bamiyan Valley, as well as a
loss of a key part of history. In restoring the Buddhas, the international community can also see it as
a restoration of the Bamiyan Valley

Essay about The Psychology of Social Media
Living in the 21st century requires one to stay current with latest technological advancements. Ever
since the development of social networking sites, people are now able to create a carefully crafted
identity for themselves. This has led psychologists to question how well these online personalities
match the person in front of the computer. The innovative branch of media psychologylooks into
how social networking portrays individuals and initiates human interactions within a society.
A basic question is how well are people able to get to know each other through social networking

Gosling polled the group using a standard Five Factor model personality test which measured
extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to new
experiences (Steele, Evans, Green, 2008). Then researchers rated the same subjects based solely on
their Facebook profiles, which usually included pictures and lists of interests.
The researchers found a correlation between assessments in four of the five categories. Gosling was
not surprised that emotional stability was the only attribute showing no significant results across
personal and online assessments because it is a quality that people are good at concealing across
most media (Wilson, 2007). Although the extroversion category showed the highest correlation,
research suggests that openness to new experience is perhaps exhibited better online than in person.
Judith Donath, an associate professor at the Media Laboratory at MIT who reviewed Gosling s
research, divides the content of social networking sites into signals and unintended cues. According
to Donath, Facebook users do not intend to share super personal information on their profiles.
People who happen to share a personal status update might be perceived as over sharing without
meaning to (Wilson, 2007).

people, while online, self disclose or act differently than they would

The two Islamic travelers would probably look the China and see a disunity similar to the caliphs

Formative Assessment Essentially, what contract law is concerned with is whether there is a
contract in the first place. A contract is formed when there is a meeting of minds. There needs to
be an offer and an acceptance , with the mirror principle applied one must mirror the other
precisely , otherwise there is no contract. It is also important to be able to determine between
offers and invitation to treat. Offer and acceptance need to be communicated, and with offer, there
needs to be an intention to create legal relations. When dealing with the case we were presented
with to advise Francis, we must firstly determine where there is a valid contract. We are
determining which party has a contract and is in breach of it with Harry.... Show more content on

However, the postal rule only applies to acceptance, hence, Harry would not be able to claim
Francis is in breach of contract. The risk of the postal rule falls on the offer. Another way how
Harry might want to use the postal rule for his benefit would be to argue his invitation to treat
was an offer, and the letter Francis posted was an acceptance. If in fact this was the case, which,
as discussed is not, the postal rule would apply, if the acceptance mirrored the offer. However, if
we tried to use this, somewhat fallacious reasoning, there is still no contract. If Harrry s reply
was an offer, than when Francis replied with a lower demand, it cannot be regarded as
acceptance, as it does not mirror the offer. This would be a counter offer , which will be
discussed in greater detail later on. Back to the postal rule, it would not apply and Harry again
does not have a case. This is because the offer and acceptance don t mirror each other, as he
attempted to deliver 20 cases instead of 15, but as was discussed, Harry would not have a strong
case, if he tried to claim his invitation to treat was an offer. Now we could proceed in clarifying
Francis the contractual relationship Harry has with Indra. There is a contract it is clearly stated
that Harry accepts an offer from Indra to supply all the cases he has, and at what price. The offer
and acceptance are communicated and mirror

Lab Report On Luciferase
Introduction
In this experiment, the enzyme Luciferase (Luc) was purified using differential centrifugation,
precipitation, and a simplified chromatography procedure, followed by an enzyme activity assay
using the enzyme s natural substrate, Luciferin, to confirm the presence of Luc.
Luciferase is a 61 kD enzyme naturally found in the tails of fireflies, a member of the Lampyridae
family. Luc acts as a catalyst in an oxidation reduction reaction with Luciferin, which allows these
insects to exhibit bioluminescence for mating and communication ( Firefly Luciferase, n.d.). In this
reaction, Luciferin is adenylated and oxidized to produce Oxyluciferin, along with carbon dioxide,
adenosine monophosphate, and light ( Luciferase Mechanism, ... Show more content on

Following the purification process, the enzyme activity assay should reveal luminescence in the
supernatant fraction of the tail sample. SDS PAGE of the samples should reveal a band at 61 kD
in the tail sample and no distinct banding in the head sample.
Materials and Methods
Protein Purification:
To begin, samples of both firefly heads and firefly tails were divided amongst the groups. Our
group was assigned the firefly head to use as a negative control, while the other was assigned to
the tail. The firefly tissue was lysed by grinding with a pestle in the tube (Tube A) both before
and after adding 250 L of Lysis buffer (1X PBS with 1% SDS). This mixture was then sonicated
for two minutes to complete the lysing process.
The tubes were then centrifuged at 1,000 rpm for 3 minutes to remove the large tissue pieces. The
supernatant of this tube contained the soluble compounds and proteins that were present in the
cytosol of the cells present in the tissue. The supernatant was removed using a micropipette and
transferred to a new 1.5 mL Eppendorf tube (Tube B), and the pellet Tube A was discarded.
The supernatant in Tube B was then mixed with 1 mL of ice cold acetone in order to separate the
proteins from the other compounds present in the aqueous solution. Tube B was spun in the
centrifuge at 10,000 rpm for 2 minutes. The resulting supernatant was removed and discarded to
isolate the pellet, containing the

John s Monologue
Preface Constricted by the dirty beige walls that used to be pearly white, inflicted by black
discrete scratches from 1 year ago by furniture he bought off of craigslist with his alimony

company provided is the gossip overheard from the two women on the stairs leading to my

Firewall And Virtual Private Network
The current system is an open network system without any kind of security. The computers don t
have anti malware programs and data is not backed up. Physical security is also weak without
alarms, sprinkler, and cameras. The most secure networks combine hardware, software and physical
security methods together, offering the most protection to all users of any network.
Our plan will include network security, which will protect the network. It will protect the usability,
reliability, integrity, and safety of the network and data. Plan will also include host based security
system. These will include applications to monitor detect, and counterattack against the hosts
networks and systems. There are many types of security methods can be used to secure a network.
Network and host Security components will be,
Anti virus on each computers
Firewall and Virtual Private Network(VPN) to block unauthorized access to the network and
provide secure remote access
Wi Fi Protected Access 2 for the wireless security Firewall is a basic and easily implemented
methods of the network security (software based). It will allow authorized access to computer while
blocking unauthorized access by configuring access conditions based on user defined rules, IP.
VPN will be used to encrypt connection across a network while using the internet as transmission

The Eruption Of Mount Vesuvius
Introduction
The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD was a pyroclastic event discussed in greater detail over
the course of this essay.
Mount Vesuvius is located on the southern coast of Italy, 1,281 metres above the Bay of Naples on
the plain of Campania between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mount Vesuviusis
part of the Romana volcanic belt which covers about 450km from Mount Amatia, 130km from
north west Rome and 110km from East Naples. The Romana volcanic belt is made up of two
parallel volcanic scars. Mount Vesuvius is on the Western arc. This zone is highly fractured which
allows magma to rise up into the magma chamber beneath Mount Vesuvius. This chamber is
thought to be approximately 5km below the volcano and almost 2km high with a diameter of
around 1km. The volcano is situated where two faults in the Earth s crust converge. (De Boer and
Sanders, 2002)
Development of Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius developed inside the caldera of an older volcano. This volcano was known as
Monte Somma. Monte Somma became active around 400,000 years ago. Only the northern side
of Monte Somma is left, creating a wall like ridge around the northern edge of Mount Vesuvius.
This feature can be observed today at the site of Mount Vesuvius. The development of Vesuvius
produced a volcanic complex consisting of the two volcanoes. (De Boer and Sanders, 2002)

Elvis Presley s Hound Dog
Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller wrote one of the greatest hits of all times.
This soulful beat, legend song Hound Dog, has had many covers as the years have past. The first
date recorded was August 13, 1952. Hound Dog, is classified in the classic blues in 1952 and
Willie Mae Thornton was the first to press this through the recording studio. This song hit the blues
genre of music in the early 1950 s, and later doubled into rhythm and blues before taking off onto
rock and roll with Elvis Presley. Fans raved as Elvis moved to the beat of Hound Dog and moved
soulfully to the rhythm as Jimi Hendrix pumped out the melody.

Leiber s Hound Dog. There is no bad or better cover for Hound Dog but, in my opinion I have
enjoyed Elvis Presley s cover of Hound Dog the most because it is uplifting and brings a
charming spice into my soul. His cheer and smile as he gave all he had to present Hound Dog to
the audience wins my heart. I have a love as well for rhythm and blues. Willie Mae and Jimi
Hendrix are talented artists, but do not win my top vote because this song and lyrics are about a
spicy woman who is fired up and is throwing out of her life the undesirable things. The man in
her life she is fed up with and ready to move on. I feel that Willie Mae Thornton and Jimi

woman in the story I do not feel is experiencing lost pain or guilt. I love the spice that Elvis

Unit 4 Learning aim A What is primary and secondary socialisation? In the midst of basic
socialisation, youths take in different crucial things that they ought to function as they create.
These lessons are discovered not simply by direct instructing, like how to scrutinise and make,

The Effects Of Environmental Degradation On The Environment
The human relationship to the environment has evolved over time as humans have made
technological advancements and cultural changes. While some may argue that humanity is distant
from nature, that could not be further from the truth. While the human relationship to nature is not
the same as it may have been in the past, humans still rely on nature for their livelihood. Humans
also have a strong impact on nature, and processes which occur in nature, through their actions.
In the last decade, the issue of environmental degradation has become a topic of global concern and
discussion. This discussion is threading together a narrative that helps the public and scholars better
understand the human relationship to the environment. While this push forward in environmental
agenda is a good thing, there needs to be an ongoing dialogue which allows for the understanding
that environmental degradation is not only a risk to a certain biome, but all of the diversity that
exists within a certain region a good example of this being Papua New Guinea.
The rainforest of Papua New Guinea are incredibly rich and diverse environments; the rainforest not
only houses a wide variety of plant and animal species, but is also home many indigenous groups.
By examining the changes in Papua New Guinea s rainforest throughout time, a better
understanding of the complex and dynamic human relationship to nature will be achieved.

Every war has at least one pivotal point that begs the question, What if this event had happened
differently? The American Civil War is no exception. Many Southerners made claims that the
winning of the Battle of Shiloh could have won the entire war for the Confederacy. Because they
lost, however, debate is still had about who is really to blame for the failure at Shiloh. Many try to
pinpoint the blame to one specific factor whether that be the leadership under General Pierre
Gustave Toutant Beauregard following General Albert Sidney Johnstons death, the intel that was far

On April 3, Gen. Johnston mobilized his troops and marched towards Pittsburg Landing where
they arrived on April 6 because of road and whether conditions. At 5:00 AM, Johnston launched a
surprise attack on the unsuspecting Union camps. Because the divisions that had little to no
experience were in the area where the attack was first made, the Confederates quickly broke
through many Union lines successfully and wreaked havoc. They stormed the camps and
slaughtered many of these men in their tents. The Union forces were pushed back at their flanks.
One line, however, stood firm against the Confederate onslaught. General Benjamin M. Prentiss
held his line and did not allow the Confederates to break through while fighting in a sunken road
that is estimated to be about 3 feet deep in what is known as the The Hornet s Nest while waiting
for reinforcements.
By the end of the first day of fighting, it seemed clear that the Confederates dominated the North
by inflicting a high number of casualties and had nearly wiped out Grant s entire force. The South
suffered an even more monumental blow that day in the death of General Albert Sidney Johnston.
Johnston was fatally shot in the leg just outside the Hornet s Nest and bled to death shortly
thereafter. As a four star general, he is still the highest ranking officer killed in

6 Scientific Methods
During my reading of the scientific method and how they are essential to invention and
innovation. I found six methods to scientific. Each method has a purpose to assure that you are
giving the experiment a fair test. The first method is to Make an Observation one should take
notice by watching or identify. The second method is to Ask a Question by doing this you can
find out the WH questions words. Those are the how, what, when, who, which, why, or where? For
the third method is to form A Hypothesis to assume a basis for an argument. Then for step four is

on to the fifth step Evaluating the Results at this point you will determine if your argument is being
supported or not. As the sixth step that will bring you to completion, you will have to Determining
a Conclusion you will have the opportunity to express you re finding from the experiment to others.

Online Advertising Methods
Background
Every day, marketing professional come up with new ways in which they can market their products
to consumers successfully. Marketing of products has significantly changed following the invention
of the internet. The enormous popularity of the internet in the past decade has opened doors for
marketers in a manner that one could not have imagined twenty years ago. Marketers utilize the
internet for the purpose of advertising products in a great way than other media outlets such as
television, magazines, newspapers, and radio. Online social networking platforms such as
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn have become a new big thing in which marketers
advertise their product on the internet. More than 67% of the global community have joined one or

Human error: Errors caused by people who get into contact with the web application or data servers

configuration or hardware error. Vulnerabilities left by the software developers in software, is
another major error. This can include authentication which can be bypassed, failure to validate input

handle errors correctly can be used to attack web application leading to exposure of sensitive data
such as customer s financial data. This can be used to cause fraud to the customer s bank or credit

Malfunction: software malfunction is mostly caused by poor development practices where security
has not been built in the software development life cycle but rather incorporated at a latter phase
when the software is already fully developed. By doing this, most of the vulnerabilities won t be
handled which latter leads to either crash or malfunctioning of the software, whereby the attacker
has an easy time breaking into the system and causing damage or customer s data disclosure.

Fashion Illustration Essay
Illustration is an art that allows to create an amazing aesthetics that is hard to remake or achieve

illustration itself has a several meanings, but the most known is art design . In the past, illustration

However, as the time passed illustration became an individual type of art that no longer need to

Manchester s United Of The Football League
Prior to the arrival of Matt Busby, Manchester s United s chapter in the history of English
football begins with the founding of Newton Heath LYR [Lancashire Yorkshire Railway]
Football Club in 1878 (Manchester United F.C., В§1878 1909). Football was the most popular
sport in the nearby counties of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the mid 1800s, and it enjoyed
popularity in Manchester as well (Harvey, 57, 67). One historian attributes part of its success to
the abundance of playing space and events sanctioned by local business owners seeking to increase
revenue (Harvey, 67). Newton Health LYR joined the Football Leaguein 1892, and was rechristened
Manchester United after an early infusion of funding. After moderate success through 1920 that
prompted the construction of and relocation to Old Trafford, the club entered a period of
stagnation and decline, characterized by relatively poor performance and plagued by financial
difficulties. This floundering was exacerbated by public perception of association football as an
undignified, inferior sport. Academic institutions, swayed by the patriotic qualities of toughness
and leadership emphasized by rugby and perceived to be absent in football, opted to field rugby
teams (Taylor, 122). Numerous scandals further tarnished association football s reputation, the most
notable of which involved Manchester United and Liverpool F.C. Players from both sides, after

The Negative Impact Of Smart Phones
Smart phones have been a big part of the world in the decade, especially iPhones. The first
iPhone was released on June 29, 2007, with many more released since then ( History of Phone ).
Along with changing how people communicate, the success and availability of the iPhone has
impacted the world s economy in many ways. You can argue that here, in America, iPhones, have
positively impacted our society and our economy. People have greater access to income because
they conduct work in many different settings, all day long. However, people have begun to replace
human contact with virtual contact via their iPhones. This is a negative impact on our lives.
You can also argue that the iPhonehas had a negative impact on societies in many other countries in
which iPhone components are manufactured. There, Apple employees work long hours away from
their families, for minimal wages, in unsafe environments ( Globalization and Ideology ). They may
never even have the means to purchase their own iPhone. While Apple contributes to the economies
of many poor countries by manufacturing iPhone parts there, the company also steals from those
countries by robbing those employees of time interacting with family and friends.
According to The History of the iPhone (2014), the first iPhone was nicknamed Jesus phone
because of its impressive capabilities. It had a maximum storage of sixteen gigabytes. Now an
iPhone has storage available up to two hundred ninety six gigabytes. We can

Netflix

Business Policy Strategic Planning BA 4910
Professor Dr. Jeffrey Walls
November 25, 2006
GENERAL ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
Netflix was founded in 1997 by Reed Hastings, founder and CEO. Prior to this, Hastings founded
Pure Software in 1991 and led several acquisitions that allowed Pure Software to become one of
the top 50 largest software companies in the world. In 1999, Hastings launched the online
subscription service and led Netflix to a subscriber base of over 1 million in just three and a half
years, something that took AOL six years to accomplish. Netflix s business strategy was quite
simple, because they had pioneered the online DVD rental industry when DVDs were rare and ...

This allows the customers to receive their DVD s typically in only one day. The beauty here is
that Netflix aligned itself with the U.S. Postal Service to maximize their freight costs while using
a distribution system that already goes door to door of each of its customers daily without the
added cost of using a parcel service.
INDUSTRY ANALYSIS
The DVD player was one of the most successful consumer electronic products of all time and the
DVD market was also one of the fastest growing markets while experiencing unprecedented
growth since its 1997 debut. DVD movies were available through a wide array of channels to the
consumer, which included physical brick and mortar retail stores such as Wal Mart; physical
rental stores like Blockbuster; websites of both brick and mortar and internet only stores such as
Amazon.com; online rental stores such as Netflix; and movies on demand and download websites
such as Walt Disney and MovieLink. The DVD rental market soared from 1% in 1999 to an
astounding 74% in 2006 for total DVD and VHS rentals.
COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO
Blockbuster had grown to more than 8,500 company operated franchised stores worldwide, with
more than 2,600 stores outside of the United States. They hold a 65% market share of the entire
$8.5 billion market, which is astounding to say the least. In 2002, it had revenues of more than
$5.5 billion in which 80% came from the United States. Blockbuster s goal is to

Sex Offenders Research Paper
Russell Hines
Ms. Walker
English 11
February 1, 2018
Sex Offenders, Jobs and Living The opinion on what should happen to sex offenders is exactly
that: opinionated. While trying to find opinions that argue with each other was pretty difficult,
because most people believe that if you re a sex offender, you re a rapist, which makes it hard for
anyone who committed a sex crime to find a job that will actually hire them, and then not even
for a long period of time. With all of the laws that are against sex offenders, it also makes it hard
to find a place to sleep, so many are homeless. Even if it wasn t toward kids, then there is still a
parameter that they have to follow. While doing the research for finding why a sex offender has to

  • 2. Chrank Ctela Vs Frank Stella Kyndel Spoonemore Dr. Stephanie Chadwick Art Since 1940 ARTS 2305 2 December 2017 Frank Stella s Inspiration Versus What You See Is What You See Frank Stella is an Abstract Expressionist and Minimalist artist who is known for several elements of his painting style such as his shaped canvases and his famous saying what you see is what you see. In the mid 1960 s, Stella created a series of paintings, the Protractor Series, which are prominent for their semi circle shaped canvases that resemble a protractor. Despite Stella s popular motto, what you see is what you see, Stella did, in fact, have an inspiration for his famous masterpiece. Frank Stella created beautiful, simple paintings on canvas often using polymer paint. Very commonly, Stella s paintings were depicted on shaped canvases like his Protractor Series were painted on semi circle shaped canvases. Stella had some more works, Irregular Polygons, that were composed on shaped canvases as well, like the ones listed below. Chocorua IV, Frank StellaWolfeboro IV, Frank Stella Although Frank Stella is known for his abstract attitude and motto what you see is what you see, it can be found that Stella did have an inspiration for his Protractor Series other than the mathematical tool. When looking at these paintings, an element that can easily catch the eye is the variety of different hues he chose and the intertwining pathways of color. Prior to creating this artwork, Frank Stella traveled to the Middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Homework in Moderation is Good Essays Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing? Homework has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth century. Otto explained that, Compulsory homeworkdoes not result in sufficiently improved academic accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the United States feared that Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to be unnecessary to complete. This incident has partially shaped our nation to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can be improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that homework has on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections: immediate achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and greater parental appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains that one s learning can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better critical thinking, greater concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and better retention of factual knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term academic benefits, homework allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an improved attitude toward school can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish homework can classwork in more efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered one of the more important ones because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of an academic enthusiast, but also for others, who do not focus on studying academic related subjects. For instance, according to Cooper s studies, he has found that self direction, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Liver Injury Research Paper Liver plays a central role in transforming and clearing chemicals and is consequently susceptible to the toxicity induced from these agents. Chemicals that cause liver injury are termed hepatotoxins, and more than 900 drugs have been implicated in causing liver injury and it is the most common reason for a drug to be withdrawn from the market. Chemicals often cause subclinical injury to liver which may be manifest by abnormal liver enzyme tests. • 6. Alternate Septic System If you don t have city sewage you probably have a septic system. A septic system is a system that treats removes and disposes of water. Usually this water is from homes and businesses. Septic systems are responsible for the removal of water waste. If it is working properly it will safely remove filtered water out of harms way and back into the aquifer. If a septic system is not working properly it can be dangerous it may cause the near by water table to overflow causing flooding and water contamination. If this occurs people often must resort to an alternative septic system. An alternative septic system is simply a different system than the traditional system. In a traditional septic system the water from the house leads into the septic tank where bacteria is broken down and eventually it forms three different layers. The bottom layer is made up of solids, this layer is called sludge, a middle layer is liquid with some organic matter, and a top with floating solids. Devices called baffles allow the middle layer of the tank to flow out into a perforated pipe and it takes it to a far away field. This safely removes harmful water from nearby houses. The remainder of the waste stays in the tank for further break down. That is how a traditional drainfield system works. If this septic system is not suited for ones property due to the geography of the land or limited space one may need to use an alternate septic system. There are many types of alternative septic systems some of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Effect Of Temperature Increases Due On Anthropogenic... Abstract The purpose of this article by Diffenbaugh et.al. is to determine how temperature increases due to anthropogenic warming change the probability of precipitation deficits that cause severe drought conditions, and determine what the conditions will look like in the future. They used historical precipitationand temperature data with Palmer Drought Metrics and global climate models to attempt to answer this question. It was found that in the past twenty years, the frequency of drought years has doubled, without any significant change in the trends of precipitation variability. This was attributed to significant increases in positive temperature anomalies causing an increased frequency of precipitation deficits leading to more occurrences of drought years. Global climate modeling suggested that by 2030, the region will transition to a regime where there is a 100% risk that all future dry years will coincide with warmer conditions, increasing the risk of extended drought conditions. This is not the first time this region has experienced prolonged drought conditions. However, it is the first time the drought has been this severe. Since 1977, the per capita water usage has decreased such that in 2013 the water demand is similar to that of 1977, meaning that it will be very difficult to come up with new short term water conservation ideas. The Historical Landmarks Of Jerusalem While the present day Jerusalem flourishes with the pilgrims attracted by the city s religious significance and the tourists intrigued by its historical landmarks, it was merely a minor city state in the ancient times. However, rather than a miracle that had occurred overnight, the social and economic status of Jerusalemwas obtained through a process of evolution, the early parts of which were recorded in the Hebrew Bible, which is a collection of narratives based on genuine historical events while centering its stories on divine power. In the case of Jerusalem, the Bible provides intricate accounts of religiously significant events that were in sync with the stages of Jerusalem s development, starting with King Davids choice to designate the city as the capital of the United Monarchy, and culminating around the time of Solomon s construction of the First Temple, as well as the fall of the city to the Babylonians. Through these references to the Bible, which centralize early events of the Israelite religious history in the city of Jerusalem, it is unequivocal that not only has Jerusalem affected the religious society of the Israelites, but the evolution of the city into a political and spiritual capital is also related to the religious events that took place in the city. Today, remnants can still be found that tell the history of the land, and of its inhabitants; many of these remnants, however, have been destroyed over time. Bordering the city on each side, two abandoned niches are carved into the cliff face, each towering over 100 meters. These great niches once held two Buddha statues that looked out over the Bamiyan Valley, but now stand empty. Once a witness to the history of the area, these Buddhas were destroyed in 2001 when the Taliban, a terrorist group, destroyed them due to their religious imagery. Since their destruction, the international community has risen up in protest, and endless discussions on its reconstruction have been hashed out as further studies are done on the remains. The interaction with religious ideology complicates and stigmatizes the situation, causing many discussions to go nowhere. The Bamiyan Buddhas hold significant cultural value, providing not only a religious sanctuary for many, but also by attracting travelers with their beauty. The researchers found a correlation between assessments in four of the five categories. Gosling was not surprised that emotional stability was the only attribute showing no significant results across personal and online assessments because it is a quality that people are good at concealing across most media (Wilson, 2007). Although the extroversion category showed the highest correlation, research suggests that openness to new experience is perhaps exhibited better online than in person. • 22. What Contract Law Is Concerned With A Contract Formative Assessment Essentially, what contract law is concerned with is whether there is a contract in the first place. A contract is formed when there is a meeting of minds. There needs to be an offer and an acceptance , with the mirror principle applied one must mirror the other precisely , otherwise there is no contract. It is also important to be able to determine between offers and invitation to treat. Offer and acceptance need to be communicated, and with offer, there needs to be an intention to create legal relations. When dealing with the case we were presented with to advise Francis, we must firstly determine where there is a valid contract. We are determining which party has a contract and is in breach of it with Harry.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the postal rule only applies to acceptance, hence, Harry would not be able to claim Francis is in breach of contract. The risk of the postal rule falls on the offer. Another way how Harry might want to use the postal rule for his benefit would be to argue his invitation to treat was an offer, and the letter Francis posted was an acceptance. If in fact this was the case, which, as discussed is not, the postal rule would apply, if the acceptance mirrored the offer. However, if we tried to use this, somewhat fallacious reasoning, there is still no contract. If Harrry s reply was an offer, than when Francis replied with a lower demand, it cannot be regarded as acceptance, as it does not mirror the offer. This would be a counter offer , which will be discussed in greater detail later on. Back to the postal rule, it would not apply and Harry again does not have a case. This is because the offer and acceptance don t mirror each other, as he attempted to deliver 20 cases instead of 15, but as was discussed, Harry would not have a strong case, if he tried to claim his invitation to treat was an offer. Now we could proceed in clarifying Francis the contractual relationship Harry has with Indra. There is a contract it is clearly stated that Harry accepts an offer from Indra to supply all the cases he has, and at what price. The offer and acceptance are communicated and mirror ... • 26. The Eruption Of Mount Vesuvius Introduction The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD was a pyroclastic event discussed in greater detail over the course of this essay. Mount Vesuvius is located on the southern coast of Italy, 1,281 metres above the Bay of Naples on the plain of Campania between the Apennine Mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Mount Vesuviusis part of the Romana volcanic belt which covers about 450km from Mount Amatia, 130km from north west Rome and 110km from East Naples. The Romana volcanic belt is made up of two parallel volcanic scars. Mount Vesuvius is on the Western arc. This zone is highly fractured which allows magma to rise up into the magma chamber beneath Mount Vesuvius. This chamber is thought to be approximately 5km below the volcano and almost 2km high with a diameter of around 1km. The volcano is situated where two faults in the Earth s crust converge. (De Boer and Sanders, 2002) Development of Mount Vesuvius Mount Vesuvius developed inside the caldera of an older volcano. This volcano was known as Monte Somma. Monte Somma became active around 400,000 years ago. Only the northern side of Monte Somma is left, creating a wall like ridge around the northern edge of Mount Vesuvius. This feature can be observed today at the site of Mount Vesuvius. The development of Vesuvius produced a volcanic complex consisting of the two volcanoes.
