Gas exchange is defined as the process by which oxygen is transported to cells and carbon dioxide
is transported from cells (Giddens, 2013, p.161). Gas exchange in the human body occurs in the
lungs and as the primary function of the respiratory system, it exchanges two gases, oxygen and
carbon dioxide. The process of gas exchange happens as we breathe through ventilation, transport
and perfusion. As you inhale oxygen, the oxygen travels deep into the lungs until it reaches the
alveoli. Here in the alveoli oxygen and carbon dioxide diffuse across the alveolar capillary
membrane. Oxygen is able to enter into the blood while carbon dioxide is leaving the blood as
waste to be exhaled from the lungs and out of the body. This oxygenated blood is then transported
throughout the body. All cells depend on a consistent supply of oxygen and removal of waste in
order to survive. A reduction or lack of oxygen and/or buildup of waste leads to demise. For this

As a prelude to the wondrous holiday season, I attended Singers Unlimited, a performance by the
Hofstra Jazz Ensemble. The performance was a shining example of American creativity, with over
a dozen historical masterpieces of Jazz on display. This paper will analyze every song played in
Singers Unlimited, and discuss the musical factors which truly made them the gems of history.
The first song, Strike up the Band, is the product of George Gershwin and arranger Sammy
Nestico. The piece is played in C Major and has a quick tempo, giving it an upbeat and energetic
feel. When the song begins, it is instantly recognizable as a part of the big band era, with its heavy
use of the trumpet, tenor saxophone and drums.
The second song, Sing, Sing, Sing by Louis Prima, is in my opinion one of the greatest songs of
the swing era. The whole piece has a 4/4 time, with a quick tempo that creates a lively feel. The
intro contains a three bar drum solo. Eventually, a 12 bar melody is played on the brass
instruments. Transitioning into the first solo, two bars are played on the drums. The solo is played
on the trumpet for 12 bars. In the upcoming 25 bars, Benny Goodman becomes the center of

The first act of protection comes from Flash the main character. Flash, also known as Barry
Allen, cares for and protects his fiancГ©, Iris West, and his city, Central City. Barry will do
anything to protect Iris and Central City. At the end of season three, a giant speed force
threatens to suck up Central City. Barry realizes if he lets the speed force suck him up instead of
the city, he will save the city. Barry lets the speed force take him away and he saves the city and,
more specifically Iris. At the beginning of the first episode in season four of The Flash Reborn, the
speed forces secures Barry in its clutches. Ever since Barry sacrificed himself to save the city and
her, Iris stays in deep dismay. She reminds herself of the words Barry told her before he left, stay

Desert Places Robert Frost Summary
Robert Frost was an American poet who commonly used images of nature in his poetry. The use
of nature in poetry is typically used to create a connection between humanity and nature. The use
of nature in his poem Desert Places , published in 1936, does exactly this as Frost, through the
narrator, vividly describes an open field which is covered with snow, and subsequently the
feelings or emotions created within as a response to the observations. The title of the poem itself
already alludes to the central theme of loneliness and death, as a desert is commonly a lonely,
empty and abandoned place. However, the poem itself compares the narrator s life and mind to
that of a desert. Through observation of nature, Frost explores the ability of nature to inspire
introspective thoughts of life and death along with self realization. Frost, through the narrator,
begins his narrative by mentioning that the snow covers the land and everything contained in
that space quickly and without reservation or discrimination. He states, Snow falling and night
falling fast, oh, fast (Frost, 1936, line 1). As he continues his narration about the landscape he is
viewing and about to embark upon, the reader becomes easily preoccupied with the sense of
emptiness and loneliness (Wand, 2013). The speaker mentions the field being almost covered
smooth in snow (Frost 1936, line 3) and the reader is made to imagine the blank, baron and
lonely state. Frost s description of the dark and quiet landscape is comparable to death and the
nature of this inevitable end of life event. This may be Frost s idea of how death approaches and
the effects and feelings contained within its victims. The mention of all animals being smothered
in their lairs (Front, 1936, line 6) shows that death is indiscriminate and covers everyone and
anything in its path. Generally, images of nature are thought to be beautiful, serene, romantic and
typically desired for all these reasons. Frost however, creates a different idea and feeling about
nature with his description of the surroundings. Critics of Frost s poetry view him as a skeptic who

In this case study 554 students divided into teams in accordance with their performance. Equal parts
high, average, and low performers. The teams engaged in class time, team discussions, and test,
over three semesters with one variance the grading. In semester one, the team received 10 points
bonus if the team raised their final grade by one point. In semester one, they made six points for
team improvement and four points for individual improvement. In semester three, the students
collected 10 points, but only if they accomplished both individual, and group improvement. The
group would not collectively receive any points. This study found when high performance students
benefited individually they improved, but when only the group benefited their scores suffered. The
high performance students used their time reviewing material and helping the low performers
