Machine learning is useful for modeling relationships in the context of pattern recognition, clustering, classification and regression based predictive modeling. The combination of developed metabolomic networks and machine learning based predictive models offer a unique method to visualize empirical relationships while testing key experimental hypotheses. The following presentation focuses on data analysis, visualization, machine learning and network mapping approaches used to create richly mapped metabolomic networks. Next generation “omics” tools are harbingers of the golden age of biology. Biologists are on the cusp of breaking through the veil of complexity surrounding the emergent properties of complex biological systems. However these same rapid technological advances are also transforming the study of biology into a data intensive science. The ever growing gap between data and theory necessitates that biologists become familiar with multivariate computational and visualization methods in order to fully understand their experimental results.
We are offering a summer workshop covering introductory concepts and applications of multivariate data analysis (MDA) and visualization techniques. Join us for a week to familiarize yourself with concepts in MDA covering topics in: multiple hypothesis testing, exploratory projection pursuits, multivariate classification and regression modeling, networks and machine learning. Get experience with MDA through hands-on analyses of real-world data using freely available tools. Learn how to make the most of your time and experimental results by quickly understanding your data’s complexity, main features and inter-relationships.

At Elsevier, a lot of effort is focussed on content discovery for users, allowing them to find the most relevant articles for their research. This, at its core, blurs the boundaries of search and recommendation as we are both pushing content to the user and allowing them to search the world’s largest catalogue of scientific research. Apart from using the content as is, we can make new content more discoverable with the help of authors at submission time, for example by getting them to write an executive summary of their paper. However, doing this at submission time means that this additional information is not available for older content. This raises the question of how we can utilise the author’s input on new content to create the same feature retrospectively to the whole Elsevier corpus. Focusing on one use case, we discuss how an extractive summarization model (which is trained on the user-submitted summaries), is used to retrospectively generate executive summaries for articles in the catalogue. Further, we show how extractive summarization is used to highlight the salient points (methods, results and finding) within research articles across the complete corpus. This helps users to identify whether an article is of particular interest for them. As a logical next step, we investigate how these extractions can be used to make the research papers more discoverable through connecting it to other papers which share similar findings, methods or conclusion. In this talk we start from the beginning, understanding what users want from summarization systems. We discuss how the proposed use cases were developed and how this ties into the discovery of new content. We then look in more technical detail at what data is available and which methods can be utilised to implement such a system. Finally, while we are working toward taking this extractive summarization system into production, we need to understand the quality of what is being produced before going live. We discuss how internal annotators were used to confirming the quality of the summaries. Though the monitoring of quality does not stop there, we continually monitor user interaction with the extractive summaries as a proxy for quality and satisfaction.

Susan Kennedy, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Santa Clara University, presents the “Bias in Computer Vision—It’s Bigger Than Facial Recognition!” tutorial at the May 2023 Embedded Vision Summit.
As AI is increasingly integrated into various industries, concerns about its potential to reproduce or exacerbate bias have become widespread. While the use of AI holds the promise of reducing bias, it can also have unintended consequences, particularly in high-stakes computer vision applications such as facial recognition. However, even seemingly low-stakes computer vision applications such as identifying potholes and damaged roads can also present ethical challenges related to bias.
This talk explores how bias in computer vision often poses an ethical challenge, regardless of the stakes involved. Kennedy discusses the limitations of technical solutions aimed at mitigating bias, and why “bias-free” AI may not be achievable. Instead, she focuses on the importance of adopting a “bias-aware” approach to responsible AI design and explores strategies that can be employed to achieve this.Risk Assessment: Approach to enhance Network Security

risk assessment on data and communication devices, to ensure
that full business uptime is assured and to minimize, if not
completely eradicate downtime caused by “unwanted elements
of the society” ranging from hackers, invaders, network

downtime and its huge business negative impact, it becomes
extremely necessary and critical to proactively monitor,
protect and defend your business and organization by ensuring
prompt and regular Risk assessment of the data and
communication devices which forms the digital walls of the

methodologies used, methodically discusses core risk

firm's productivity. The active directory and the group's policy can be implemented and arranged in a manner that only the users who are mandated with the execu-
tion of duties in the system are allowed to access the system (Anton et al., 2019). Secondly is the data availability, which ensures that the data is made available to an
authorized individual with minor obstacles. This can be enhanced through the availability of backup servers, backup routers, battery power backups, regular data
backup, and update of the regular system (Anton et al., 2019). The update of the regular system is meant to limit the downtimes and swiftness of the data networks.
Thirdly, physical security deals with enhancing the safety of the assets to avoid the loss of personal devices that store sensitive information of the organization.
Physical security can be implemented by creating a secured room that will offer protection to the information technology devices that carry sensitive information
