Environmental resources can be natural or man-made and are classified as renewable or nonrenewable. Natural resources include materials found in nature like water, air, coal, and oil, with renewable resources being replenished quickly like solar, wind and water, and nonrenewable resources not able to be remade once depleted. Man-made resources are those created by humans to benefit society and the environment, such as buildings, hospitals, research centers and zoos.

• E.g.: air, water, wood, oil, wind energy, iron and coal.
• Refined oil and hydro-electric energy are not natural resources
because people make them.

• Renewable resource (infinite resources) that can be
refilled in a short period of time.
E.g.:

Geothermal (energy from earth’s heat)
Wind
Biomass (energy from burning organic
or living matter)

the flow of water)

•Non-renewable resource is a natural resource that
cannot be re-made or re-grown at a scale
comparable to its consumption.
