Firms need to cope with dynamically evolving environments. Global crises, competitive pressure, changing customer demands, or new technological developments frequently shake established markets. The firm’s ability to sense opportunities and threats, to make decisions on appropriate responses, and to reconfigure the firm’s resource and capability is critical to its vitality and survival. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between environmental dynamism and corporate vitality of Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies FMCG in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study adopted a cross sectional survey research design. The population of this study was nine 9 fast moving consumer goods companies in Rivers State. Since the unit of analysis was at organizational level, only strategic managers were included. Five managers each were used for each company giving a total of 45 respondents. Primary data was collected using a 5 point Likert scaled questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument was achieved by the use of the Cronbach Alpha coefficient with all the items scoring above 0.70. The hypotheses were tested using the Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0. The tests were carried out at a 95 confidence interval and a 0.05 level of significance. Results from analysis of data revealed that there is a strong positive environmental dynamism and corporate vitality of FMCGC in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study recommends that managers of Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies should form and support work environments that inspire employees toward continuous learning and open search behaviours in order to exploit innovation opportunities. Sugarcane Company’s performance has remained to be one of the challenging facts in the growing companies in Kenya today. The delays in harvesting operations are attributed to uncoordinated and unpredictable harvesting and transport schedules; and inefficiencies in mill operations. Therefore, the main aim of the study is to determine the influence of Sustainability Management Systems CSR on firm performance of selected sugarcane companies in Kenya. The study is guided by Corporate Social Performance Theory. This study used ex- post facto research design. Ex- post facto research design determines and reports the way things are. The target population was 528 employees. This study therefore sampled 228 respondents. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 10 managers, 24 supervisors, 38 accountants and 156 clerks from the 7 sugarcane companies because they have specific information concerning the effects of corporate social responsibility practice on firm performance of selected sugarcane companies in Kenya. Pilot study was done in order to test for validity and reliability of the research tools. The pilot study was done in Trans-Mara Sugar Company found in rift Valley region of Kenya. For inferential statistics, correlation and multiple regression was used for comparative analysis between frequencies of corporate social responsibility practice on firm performance. The study findings indicated that sustainability management systems have an effect on firm performance. The government will use this study in establishing policies that would ensure improvement in firm performance of sugarcane processing firms among other firms in Kenya. The study recommends that the companies should encourage sustainability management systems since sustainable management systems is an important mechanism for improving corporate sustainability performance. It can generate business value through measurement and management of sustainability risks and opportunities. The study recommends further researchers to study on corporate social responsibility strategy and financial performance of firms in Kenya which the study didn’t cover.
JOSCM | Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management - Volume 8 number 2 - July/December 2015
This issue of Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management counts with eight papers that focus on strategic, tactical and operational aspects of supply chain management.
The paper from Nyaoga, Magutu and Aduda (2015) explores the link between supply chain strategies and firm performance. Based on data from 627 companies, the authors show that supply chain strategies account for a significant share of firms´ performance; reinforcing that companies should investments in supply chain practices. Radanliev (2015), in its turn, develops a framework based on the supply chain architecture, design, and engineering literature that offers guidelines on how practitioners can decompose and build a green-field (new and non-existent) supply chain. We also have three papers on specific supply chain strategies. Pereira and Silva (2015) and Bradaschia and Pereira (2015), for instance, explore the concept of supply chain resilience and its antecedents. With the use of case studies, the former shows how the management of buyer and supplier interfaces, of risk, and of knowledge can enhance resilience in a supply chain while the latter adds that flexibility is also a vital enabler of supply chain resilience. Ferreira, Bertan and Pimenta (2015) then show the importance of inter-organizational integration to achieve the outcomes expected by companies.
This volume also counts with papers focused on logistic services, transportation, and inventory management - key decision areas in supply chain management. Liane Okdinawati, Simatupang and Sunitiyoso (2015) review the literature on collaborative transportation management and suggest areas for future research in the field and Yang (2015) provides an overview of the third-party logistics providers in the United States for investigating how the industry has evolved to meets customers' needs in an environment marked by global supply chains. Finally, this issue has a technical note on a stochastic two-echelon model to solve the petrol station replenishment problem. This model offers insights on how firms can devise a replenishment policy to minimize inventory costs, in the long run, given the demand pattern.

ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH VALUE CHAINijmvsc
In the last three decades globalization accompanied with technological developments, changing customer
expectations - both in terms of demand and need, economic interdependencies of the nation’s, growing
environmental consciousness etc. had eventually forced business firms around the globe to be effective and

Trade has expanded across the globe rapidly since the 1970s, obscuring and lengthening supply chains. At the same time, the drive for further growth in developing and mature economies has intensified commercialization and resource pressure.
Managers can no longer afford to ignore the crescendo of demands for transparency and social responsibility that have ensued, led by the sustainability movement. Those that grapple with this issue are overwhelmed by the complexity and depth generated by the need to manage problems previously viewed as irrelevant to business or outside
its direct control.
The transparency expected from sustainable
businesses entails rigorous definitions of where a supply chain begins and ends, and clarity on how its environmental and social
impacts are measured.
A sustainable business also has to
redefine the values at its heart. Standards play a crucial role in this new world. They focus on motivating management to develop more sustainable processes, products and services. They inform purchasing decisions by giving customers confidence that their suppliers have attained benchmark levels of sustainability. And finally, they play a crucial,
fundamental role in encouraging innovation.

Students’ Perception towards the School’s Level of Implementation of Ecologic...YogeshIJTSRD
Students must be aware that the world generates 2.01 billion tons of municipal solid waste annually, with at least 33 percent of that not managed in an environmentally safe manner. In the Philippines, the same trend is observed. Contributing factor is the school’s Ecological Solid Waste Management ESWM . In this paper, the level of awareness, respondents’ practice and the problems encountered by the respondents in R.A. 9003 Act are evaluated. One hundred forty seven 147 Grade 12 General Academic Strand students were surveyed using validated structured questionnaires. Scores were validated and recorded. Weighted Mean to describe the ESWM implementation was employed in this study. Results revealed that the respondents are moderately aware WA=3.20 of the program, they always practiced segregation and proper solid waste disposal but are sometimes did recycling practices WA=2.32 Minor problems WA=2.45 on cooperation and self discipline but in dire need of waste segregation supplies. Since ESWM is everybody’s concern, further dissemination and information drive are required for its effective and improved implementation. It is also recommended to conduct school wide and further environmental awareness campaign at school. Grace N. Firm Attributes and Environmental Disclosure of Energy Corporations in Nigeriaijtsrd
The study investigated the relationship between firm attributes and environmental disclosure among energy corporations in Nigeria. The research utilized a causal comparative research design, focusing on energy corporations listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group NEG from 2013 to 2022. The sample included nine quoted firms primarily operating in the oil and gas, utility, and natural resource sectors. Secondary data from annual reports and financial statements of selected energy firms were used, and the Multiple Linear Regression Approach established the causal relationship between firm attributes and environmental disclosure. The findings revealed that larger and older firms faced challenges in providing detailed environmental information due to operational complexity and established reporting practices. However, firm leverage did not significantly impact environmental disclosure. The study offers valuable insights for enhancing environmental reporting and transparency among larger and older firms to meet stakeholder expectations and promote sustainability. Policymakers can utilize these findings to devise regulatory frameworks and incentives encouraging better environmental disclosure and fostering sustainable practices in the energy industry and beyond, ultimately positioning companies as leaders in the pursuit of a sustainable and profitable future. The objective of this article is to determine the relevance of sustainable innovation
on the business environment in Nigeria. The research focused on the top management
to find out about the benefits of innovation to the relevance of the company over the
past century. Feedback from a few of their final customers was taken in order to
review sales and customer-product loyalty. Then, we conducted a series of multiple
regression models using the data we obtained. Overall, it’s interesting to note that the
rate of increase in profit due to sustainability rose by 23% and 37% But perhaps most
important: Averagely about 50% of businesses have improved on their corporate
models due to sustainability in managing opportunities hence the effect of 20%
increase above that of the previous and also majority of the respondents believe that
the marketing strategies of P and G are very effective. This study will serve as a
practical tool to investors and shareholder of organizations as they work towards
increasing their worth in their organization. This article delivers valued input in
advancing knowledge in expounding relevance of sustainable innovation on the
business environment using Procter and Gamble Nig. PLC as a case study, also
recognising the measurable impact positively and otherwise of these dimensions of
innovative involvements.

Sustainability Reporting and Corporate Performance of Conglomerate and Indust...YogeshIJTSRD
Sustainability reporting remains a continuing concern as stakeholders demand for firms to be more socially, environmentally, and economically responsible continues to increase especially in developing countries like Nigeria. Thus, the study examined the effect of sustainability reporting disclosures of conglomerate and industrial goods manufacturing firms in Nigeria on their market share and return on assets. The study employed an ex post facto research design as data were obtained from the annual report of firms for a period of ten years 2010 2019 . Multiple regression analytical tools with the help of SPSS version 23 were used in analyzing the data for 16 conglomerate and industrial goods firms selected using the purposive sampling technique. The findings revealed that sustainability reporting has positive effect on market share and return on assets of firms studied. Based on the findings, it was concluded that sustainability reporting affects the performance of manufacturing firms and it was recommended that standard setters and government should develop a standard mandatory disclosure framework to ensure consistency and uniformity in reporting and also, companies are encouraged to disclose their economic, social and environmental information all geared to help stakeholders make informed decision. Board Attributes and Sustainability Disclosure of Quoted Companies in the Bui...ijtsrd
The study examined the effect which board attributes, namely board size, board independence and board diligence meeting have on sustainability disclosure of industrial goods firms in Nigeria. The study is based on a sample of nine listed building material companies under industrial goods sector in Nigeria Exchange Group Plc from 2012 2019. Collected data were analyzed with pooled ordinary least square regression including diagnostic test to confirm the assumptions of the regression. The empirical result indicates that board size has positive and significant effect on sustainability disclosures. Board independence and board diligence have positive but insignificant influence on sustainability disclosures on listed building g material firms in Nigeria. Findings of the study have important policy implications that corporate board attributes can reduce information asymmetry between firm management and investors through sustainability disclosures thereby showing increase concern for stakeholders. The study recommends that regulatory bodies should ensure that all listed firms should comply with the requirements of having sufficient members on the board as specified on the Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance 2018 and Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 . Task Environment and Organisational Responsiveness in Nigerian Banksijtsrd
The study examined the effect of organizational responsiveness on environmental challenges, with the core objective of ascertaining the responsiveness of the banks to environmental challenges in Nigeria. The survey study adapted a structured questionnaire to generate data that were analyzed using simple percentages and Pearson correlation analytical tools. Results showed that customers, competitors and suppliers are the major task environmental forces that influence the banks, while planning, forecasting, changing of domain and lobbying are measures through which the banks respond to the challenges of the task environment. The study concludes that all the task environment is a threat to the provision of financial services by banks in Nigeria. The study recommends that bank management should devise strategy that will take advantage of the opportunity and counter threats emanating from the environment, as well as set up mechanism for collecting relevant information and managing the dynamic nature of the environment.
Addressing Sustainability Exposures through Corporate Social Responsibility i...ijtsrd
There has been considerable progress in holding companies accountable for their social responsibility performance. However, progress on socio economic and environmental impact of their practices has been more limited thereby creating an atmosphere of unfavorable business conduct and sustainability exposures. The absent of internationally recognized standards of corporate social responsibility in Nigeria have further aggravated the issue. There have also been little to no report on corporate responsibility in relation to enterprises overall economic relevance to the economy, import dependency, corruption, labour standards and eco efficiency in Nigeria. To this end, the study examined the extent to which organizations' corporate social responsibility tackles sustainability exposure as required by the Global Reporting Initiative. Survey and content analysis designs were used. Data were collected from primary and secondary sources of six Nigerian companies. T test and ANOVA were also used for the hypotheses tests. It was discovered that organizations' corporate social responsibility significantly addresses sustainability exposure through Global Reporting Initiative and other results. It was recommended that companies in Nigeria should adopt the global reporting initiative as a means of observing their corporate social responsibility. Regulatory authority should as a matter of urgency ensure that companies report on their sustainability impacts on the economy. Bassey Ekpo | Emmanuel E. Okon | Sunny B. In an attempt to use the resource-based theoretical approach, this article tried to empirically investigate the influence and impact of theinternal (micro) and external (macro) environmental factors of innovation performance using a sample of small and medium sized firms in the telecommunication cluster in Ghana with the main focus on examining variables such as customer inputs, the intensive role of R&D, cooperative networks, the uncertain environment and the complex environment of the firm. A sample of 31 SMEs in the telecommunication cluster was selected with 109 questionnaires administered. The results indicate that the macro environmental sources as cooperative network and customer inputs actually impact positively on the innovation performance of SMEs in the communication cluster in Ghana. However, firm size, network size and complex environment were shown to be negatively related to firm innovation performance.

Standardization and Formulations of Calotropis ProceraYogeshIJTSRD
Plants growing in arid regions have elicited increased attention, because the hostile environment, in which these plants survive, forces them to develop chemical protective systems through adaptation which is rarely found in vegetation of other ecosystems. Furthermore, many of the plants grow in areas, where the dependence on traditional, plant based medicines over industrially produced pharmaceuticals persists to this day. The two plants, Calotopris Procera giant milkweed, also named C. Persica and Calotropis gigantea crown ower , have been used widely in traditional medicine in North Africa, the Middle East, and South and South East Asia. This has led to extensive research on the chemical constituents of the plants. Both plants are known to be sources of cardenolides, and newer research has yielded a number of interesting cancer active constituents. In addition, extracts of both plants have remarkable nematocidal, molluscidal and insecticidal activities. In many regions, the wood of Calotropis plants has been used as a building material and as a source of fuel. In addition, certain parts of the plants have been used as feed for livestock. In other regions, Calotropis plants are seen as invasive species that threaten local plant life and that due to their toxicity also pose a threat to grazing eld animals. Review of the Diagnosis and Treatment of ParalysisYogeshIJTSRD
Paralysis is a complete loss of motor power in any muscle group. When paralysis affects all four extremities, it is called quadriplegia when it affects only the lower extremities, paraplegia and when it affects the extremities on one side of the body, hemiplegic. For this reason, the term paralysis is generally reserved for more focal, less stereotyped weakness, for instance, affecting all the muscles innervated by a peripheral nerve. Many different anatomical lesions and etiologies can cause paralysis and determine its treatment. Bikash Debsingha | Dr. Gourav Kr. Criminology Educators Triumphs and StrugglesYogeshIJTSRD
This research study is geared on determining the triumphs and struggles of criminology educators. Included on the aim is to know their experiences and story being considered as teacher by accident. A qualitative research design was applied in this study. Researchers conducted a personal interview with the respondents with the aid of a guide questions which all points to main issue of this study. The findings of the study revealed that out of seven respondents, four are on the age bracket of 21 to 25 years old, two respondents are on the age bracket of 26 to 30 years old and a single respondent is on the age bracket of 36 to 40 years. Most of the respondents find enthusiasm in teaching and are aware that there is a need for them to proceed in post graduate studies for them to have a considerable salary. As to financial stability, only 1out of 7 considers herself as financially stable. The rest are saying that as of the moment, they are not yet financially stable basing on the rate of their salary. Qualification matters a lot in the field of academe because this was being shared by one of the respondents who considers herself as financially stable. Also, all of the respondents do not consider teaching as their first career of choice but most of them does not have any plan of shifting to another career. Girlie N. Cañete | Harry Santiago P. Automatic Query Expansion Using Word Embedding Based on Fuzzy Graph Connectiv...YogeshIJTSRD
The aim of information retrieval systems is to retrieve relevant information according to the query provided. The queries are often vague and uncertain. Thus, to improve the system, we propose an Automatic Query Expansion technique, to expand the query by adding new terms to the user s initial query so as to minimize query mismatch and thereby improving retrieval performance. Most of the existing techniques for expanding queries do not take into account the degree of semantic relationship among words. In this paper, the query is expanded by exploring terms which are semantically similar to the initial query terms as well as considering the degree of relationship, that is, “fuzzy membership- between them. The terms which seemed most relevant are used in expanded query and improve the information retrieval process. The experiments conducted on the queries set show that the proposed Automatic query expansion approach gave a higher precision, recall, and F measure then non fuzzy edge weights. A New Proposal for Smartphone Based Drowsiness Detection and Warning System f...YogeshIJTSRD
This paper proposes a Smartphone based system for the detection of drowsiness in automotive drivers. The proposed system uses three stage drowsiness detection technique. The first stage uses the percentage of eyelid closure PERCLOS which is obtained by capturing images with the front camera of the Smartphone with a modified eye state classification method. The system uses near infrared lighting for illuminating the face of the driver during night driving. The second step uses the voiced to the unvoiced ratio VUR obtained from the speech data from the microphone, in the event PERCLOS crosses the threshold. The VUR is also compared with a threshold and if it is a value greater than that of the threshold, it moves on to the next verification stage. In the final verification stage, touch response is required within the stipulated time to declare whether the driver is drowsy or not and subsequently sound an alarm. To awake the driver, a vibrating mechanism is done and also the live GPS location is also sent to an emergency contact. We have studied eight other reference papers for the literature review. The system has three advantages over existing drowsiness detection systems. First, the three stage verification process makes the system more reliable. The second advantage is its implementation on an Android smart phone, which is readily available to most drivers or cab owners as compared to other general purpose embedded platforms. The third advantage is the use of SMS service to inform the control room as well as the passenger regarding the loss of attention of the driver. Data Security by AES Advanced Encryption StandardYogeshIJTSRD
Now a days with the rapid development of multimedia technologies, research on safety and security are becoming more important. Multimedia data are generated and transmitted through the communication channels and the wireless media. The efficiencies of encryption based on different existing algorithms are not up to the satisfactory limit. Hence researchers are trying to modify the existing algorithm or even develop new algorithms that help to increase security with a little encryption time. Here in this paper, we have furnished a new technology to modify the AES algorithm which gives more security with a little encryption time and which can be used to encrypt using 128 bit key. Theoretical analysis on the proposed algorithm with the existing reveals the novelty of our work. Here we have proposed a technique to randomize the key and hidden the key data into an encrypted digital image using the basics concept of cryptography and also using the concept of digital watermarking, the concept of key hide has also been encrypted. We have also proposed a new technique to reposition the pixels to break the correlation between them. So, the proposed scheme offers a more secure and cost effective mechanism for encryption. Next on the AES criteria list good performance. Widespread market adoption will require reasonably good performance on a variety of platforms, ranging from easy tocrack smart cards to the largest servers. Good algorithm performance includes speed for the encryption and decryption process as well as the key schedule. Comparative Analysis of Different Numerical Methods for the Solution of Initi...YogeshIJTSRD
A mathematical equation which involves a function and its derivatives is called a differential equation. We consider a real life situation, from this form a mathematical model, solve that model using some mathematical concepts and take interpretation of solution. It is a well known and popular concept in mathematics because of its massive application in real world problems. Differential equations are one of the most important mathematical tools used in modeling problems in Physics, Biology, Economics, Chemistry, Engineering and medical Sciences. Differential equation can describe many situations viz exponential growth and de cay, the population growth of species, the change in investment return over time. We can solve differential equations using classical as well as numerical methods, In this paper we compare numerical methods of solving initial valued first order ordinary differential equations namely Euler method, Improved Euler method, Runge Kutta method and their accuracy level. Evaluation of Different Paving Mixes Using Optimum Stabilizing ContentYogeshIJTSRD
Bituminous mixes are most commonly used all over the world in flexible pavement construction. It consists of asphalt or bitumen used as a binder and mineral aggregate which are mixed together, laid down in layers and then compacted. Under normal circumstances, conventional bituminous pavements if designed and executed properly perform quite satisfactorily but the performance of bituminous mixes is very poor under various situations. Today’s asphaltic concrete pavements are expected to perform better as they are experiencing increased volume of traffic, increased loads and increased variations in daily or seasonal temperature over what has been experienced in the past. In addition, the performance of bituminous pavements is found to be very poor in moisture induced situations. Considering this a lot of work has been done on use of additives in bituminous mixtures and as well as on modification of bitumen. Research has indicated that the addition of polymers to asphalt binders helps to increase the interfacial cohesiveness of the bond between the aggregate and the binder which can enhance many properties of the asphalt pavements to help meet these increased demands. However, the additive that is to be used for modification of mix or binder should satisfy both the strength requirements as well as economical aspects. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. 2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

incorporate the system in a constant manner to inspire
challenges within the organization, enabling the individual
members and the organization as a whole to achieve a
winning relationship. The vital enterprises are normally
knowledge oriented and competent. Thinking precedes
acting in those organizations which have high vitality. A
vitalized organization has information which is relevant to
its objectives. Proper management and utilization of this
information is the prerequisite for these kinds of
organizations. Knowledge management processes are the
key activities which help organization to manage this
information for better organization vitality.
Dynamism of the environment refers to the speed of change
and the unpredictabilityofchangeintechnologies,variations
in customer preference, product demand (market), and
product in an industry (Martínez-Sánchez, Vela-Jiménez,
Pérez-Pérez & de-Luis-Carnicer, 2011). Similarly, various
factors such as a shift in an organization’s technological
capabilities, diffusion and technical change, and/or new
competitors may lead to high dynamism in the environment
(Simerly & Li, 2002). As a result, it may create different
threats and opportunities for organizations to implement
their strategies (Atuahene-Gima, Li & De Luca 2006).
A highly dynamic environment makes it difficult for
organizations to adopt older or less innovative technologies
to keep pace with the changing needs in industries marked
by high growth (Coombs & Bierly, 2006). Research shows
the effect of company resources and competencies on
company behaviour, operations and performance is
contingent upon environmental dynamism cues (Akgun,
Keskin & Byrne, 2008). As competition heats up and market
preferences become less predictable and change occurs at a
faster pace, the environment becomes dynamic (Atuahene-
Gima, Li & De Luca, 2006). In such an environment, products
development and life cycles are shorter, new products
introductions are more frequent, information becomes
obsolete more swiftly, and the companies’ search and
coordination expenditures in strategicdecisionsareboosted
(Atuahene-Gima, Li & De Luca 2006). Consequently, it is
more difficult and challenging for organizations (1) to
assimilate and anticipate environmental conditions (Akgun,
Keskin & Byrne, 2008), (2) to identify the potential impacts
of new technological alterations on customer needs and
behavior, and (3) to translate them into specific and
appropriate actions (Atuahene-Gima, Li & De Luca 2006).
Firms operating in dynamic environment are more likely to
be successful inuncertainandchangingenvironmentswhere
the amount of cost and the level of risks associated with
novelty and newness can be regained by capturing new
product-market niches (Lumpkin & Dess, 2001). In dynamic
and complex environments, companiesneedtoundergohigh
levels of innovation and product enhancement, which
requires large investments in research and development
(Nandakumar, Ghobadian& O’Regan, 2010).
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of
environmental dynamism of corporate vitality. More
specifically, the following objectives are stated:
1. To examine the association between environmental
dynamism and corporateresponsivenessofFastMoving
Consumer Goods Companies in Rivers State, Nigeria.
2. To examine the association between environmental

LITERATURE REVIEW
Environmental Dynamism
The environment of a company is the sum of the material
and social factors which are taken into account directly
during the moment of taking the decision by persons from
the company (Li, Liu 2014). This broad definition covers the
dimensions used in various research trends. The changes
taking place in the environment are of a diverse nature. The
description of the environment of the company can be
shown from the perspective of different groups of features
and from a different range of detailed criteria of its
structuralisation. The environmental feature is understood
as the set of the properties distinguishingorcharacterizinga
feature of the environment being examined.
According to Drnevich and Kriauciunas (2011)
environmental dynamism is the change of the competitive
environment, which has animpactonthe waythecompanies
compete with others and how they respond to the demands
of the clients and the development of the business branch.
Environmental dynamism is the volatility (i.e. the pace of
changes and innovations) as well as the uncertainty or
unpredictability of activities undertaken by the clients (Li,
Liu 2014).
Dynamic environment is connected with the high
unpredictability of clients and competitors as well as the
high indicators of the changes of market trends and
innovations in the business branch. In such a dynamic
environment, where the demand is still changing, the
opportunities are getting bigger, and the results should be
best in those companies which are oriented on using new
changes, because they possess a good match between a
strategic orientation and the environment(Azadegan2013).
Environmental dynamism is also defined as the changes in
the competitive environment which have an impact on the
competitors’ character and the way to react to the demands
of clients and the situation in the business branch (Wang,
Ang, 2004). Therefore environmental dynamism reflectsthe
size and unpredictability of the changes in clients’ tastes,
production technologies or services and the models of

competition in the main companies in the industry
(Drnevich, Kriauciunas 2011). Dynamism is interpreted as
unpredictability, which means the pace of changes and
innovations in the industry, as well as the uncertainty or
unpredictability of the actions taken by the customers.
Therefore, Wang, Senaratne and Rafiq (2015), measure
environmental dynamism with the changes in technology,
competition and clients, and the construct of market
dynamics includes three components: the speed of changes
and competition, the unpredictability of changes in
technology and competition and the uncertainty of clients’
behaviour. Thus the changes in the structure of the branch,
the instability of the market demand and the possibility of
environmental disruptions are important elements of
environmental dynamism.
Most theoreticians and researchers classify the
characteristics of the environment through stability/
dynamism, simplicity/complexity and generosity/ hostility
as well as integrated/diversified markets (Li & Liu, 2014).
The generosity of the environment refers to the availability
of resources and the number of external opportunities that
are present in a specific environment and can also be
considered as the rate of return orthegrowthintheindustry
in which the company competes (Vij & Bedi, 2012).Dynamic
environments provide great opportunities for small
enterprises. In particular, market growth is emphasized as
an important indicator for small enterprises.
According to Dess and Beard 1984 cited in Petrus (2019)
environmental dynamism is a combination of instabilityand
turbulence. This is defined as the sizeandunpredictability of
the change in the tastes of customers, the technology of
production or services, and the possibilities to compete in
major industries. Companies competinginthesameindustry
have the same entry and output markets, and technological
conditions, in this way defining the environment of the
companies Karna, Richter and Riesenkampff (2016)
environmental dynamism describes the rate of changes,
unpredictability, volatility and instability in the external
environment. Environmental dynamism leads to a great
uncertainty which causes deficit of the information needed
to identify and understand the cause and effect relationship.
When the environment is highly dynamic, uncertainty may
suppress the organization’s abilitytorespondtotheneedfor
change, predicting customer requirements, questioning the
existing strategic direction, and searching for new
alternatives. However, an insecure environment in which
external changes are nonlinearandinconsistentcanalsobea
great source of opportunities for enterprises to strengthen
existing capabilities and/or develop new ones that enable
companies to overcome their organizational inertia and
shortsightedness of knowledge.
Dynamism describes the rate of changes, unpredictability,
volatility and instability in the external environment.
Dynamism leads to a great uncertainty which causes deficit
of the information needed to identify and understand the
cause and effect relationship. When the environment is
highly dynamic, uncertainty maysuppresstheorganization’s
ability to respond to the need for change, predicting
customer requirements, questioning the existing strategic
direction, and searching for new alternatives. However, an
insecure environment in which external changes are
nonlinear and inconsistent can also be a great source of
opportunities for enterprises to strengthen existing
capabilities and/or develop newonesthatenablecompanies
to overcome their organizational inertia and
shortsightedness of knowledge (Petrus, 2019).
Dynamism reflects the unpredictability and volatility of the
changes in an industry thatheightentheuncertaintyoffirms’
predictions (Dess & Beard, 1984 cited in Petrus, 2019). This
is defined as the size and unpredictability of the change in
the tastes of customers, the technology of production or
services, and the possibilitiestocompeteinmajorindustries.
Companies competing in the same industry have the same
entry and output markets, and technological conditions, in
this way defining the environment of the companies (Karna,
Richter &Riesenkampff, 2016). First, industrial dynamism
threatens a firm’s survival because the firm finds it hard to
respond with the necessary changes, and it will experience
considerable levels of volatility in firmperformance(Palmer
& Wiseman, 1999 cited in Petrus, 2019).
Typically, dynamism is always present, with potential
changes in regulatory contexts and other industry features
(Aragon-Correa & Sharma, 2003). Forexample,new product
introductions (e.g. sustainability-related products), new
revolutionary technologies (e.g. energy-efficient
technologies), breakthroughs in substitute input (e.g. grass
fibers instead of wood pulp for paper manufacture), or
political circumstances (e.g. new laws or more stringent
regulatory standards) can accelerate volatility (Nelson &
Winter, 1982 cited in Petrus, 2019). Increasing industrial
volatility makes it more difficult for managers to take into
account the repercussions on industrystructurestoalleviate
these contextual effects (Majumdar & Marcus, 2001 cited in
Petrus, 2019). It has been shown that one way for a firm to
cope with uncertainty is by heightening its social legitimacy
via socially responsible participation (Goll & Rasheed, 2004
cited in Petrus, 2019).
As Majumdar and Marcus (2001) cited in Petrus (2019
noted, when unpredictability characterized by flexible
legislation for environmental issues is increasing, managers
tend to adopt proactive environmental strategies todevelop
environmental protectionprograms.Further,thisfluctuation
in industry context may encourage managers totakegreater
risks (Li & Tang, 2010) perceiving environmentally
responsible behaviors as an opportunity to obtain
environmental legitimacy (Lewis et al., 2014) and enhance
their firms’ reputation (Koh, Qian & Wang, 2014). Second,
stability renders managers’ decision-making standardized
and problem-solving programmed, both of which result in
difficulties in developing new proactive strategies (Walters,
Kroll & Wright, 2010). Therefore, in a stable context,
managers tend to place greater weight on routine than
environmental innovation (Lewis et al., 2014).Furthermore,
when the industry context is relatively stable, with no
significant technological improvements or little change in
customer preference, the development of proactive socially
responsible strategies to maintain a competitive advantage
is probably costly or even damaging for operation
(Schreyögg& Kliesch-Eberl, 2007). As a result, firms may
actually facilitateinvestment inenvironmentallyresponsible
activities to mitigate the effect of external dynamism.
Corporate Vitality
Organizations are like human beings, as human beings
required a proper diet, life style, mental and physical
exercises to remain healthy,inthesimilarway,organizations
also require some kinds of life ingredients to become and
remain a vitalized organization. Organization vitality has

been classified into four types: i) operational;ii)intellectual;
iii) emotional; and iv) spiritual (Sushil, 2005). A continuous
vitalization process is required to remain a healthy
organization for a longer period of time.Theoperational and
intellectual vitality explainsthesmoothandagilefunctioning
of the organization in its routine activities and its evolution
into innovative and challenging areas with minimum time
and efforts.
The concept of corporate vitality has suffered from lack of
distinctive labeling in corporate literature therefore has
seemingly made it obscure in the organsitaion performance
discourse. So far, the corporate vitality concept has a
conceptual lens that prescribes its disposition to stemming
the capacity of firms for competitiveness and achieving
organizational goals. Corporate vitality is the activated
organizational energy across all functionsandresourcesthat
empower its drive towards goals (Matthews, 2009). Palmer
(2011) has viewed corporate vitality as the totality of the
functional operational capacity of the firms that is sustained
for long-term survival. Fundamentally, organsiations are
focused at crafting strategic alternatives that position them
in their environment with a view to reaching desired goals
and objectives. Corporate vitality provides the reiterating
capacity and competences that channels actions at goals.
Mavis (2011) discussed vitality of firms in relation with
firm’s ability to acquire resources that are needed for
competitiveness. The author had characterized vitality of
firms as been resourceful to the extent that it barely lacks
the fundamental operational and administrativecapabilities
that promotes attainment of corporate goals.
Narheke and Landtay (2011) views vitality of firms as being
antecedental to some work place phenomenon and
occurrences like responsiveness and innovativeness. The
underlying assumption in their thought is that organisaiton
has the potential to promptly and timely respond to
stakeholders need areas while at same time ensuring
processes that guarantee overall goal attainment. The
potency of corporate vitality to initiate, prosecute and
sustain action at goals is so far characterized by
resourcefulness, responsiveness and innovative practices.
Despite these functionalities that describes corporate
vitality, a few studies have shown concern for what
organizational efforts actions activates corporate vitality
(Chukwuigwe, 2000 cited in Akpotu&Konyefa, 2018).
According to Jeruz (2014) the failure to identify the
organsiational actions and behaviour that demonstrates
vitality is likely to have resulted from conceptualization and
operationalization of the construct. The measures of the
construct adopted in this study are essentially tailored at
addressing what behavioural practices amongst firm
managers relate with corporate vitality.
Vitality has been explained in marketing area. Munthree et
al. (2006) cited in Muroyiwaa,Abratta andMingionec(2017)
have defined vitality in marketing management perspective
with a focus on revitalization of the brands. An established
brand may become outdatedaftersometimeand required to
be developed in some different way to accept the
environmental changes. This can be achieved either by
repositioning of the brand (current brand nameisapplied to
a new product) or by introducing line extensions of the
available brands. In the same way, vitality can be achieved
either by relocation or by extension of the current process.
Vitality can be achieved by adopting some of the changes
like in brand revitalization,i.e.eitherbychangingcompletely
or partially. The key problem is how to know whenandwhat
kinds of changes are required. For knowing the required
time for changes and what to change, organization should
have the knowledge about itself and about the environment.
A vital company constantly incorporates the system to
inspire challenges within the organization, enabling the
company and the individuals to achieve a winning
relationship (Nagura & Honda, 2001).
Sushil (2007) has defined two mantras of ‘LIFE’ for
organization vitality. The first mantra of LIFE (learning,
innovation, flexibility, and entrepreneurship) (Sushil,2006)
deals with the operational and intellectual vitality while the
second mantra of LIFE (love, inspiration, fun and
enlightenment) concerns about emotional and spiritual
vitality.
Shimizu (1991 cited in Kumar Bishwas (2011) has defined
organization vitality in terms of capability development of
organizational members,goodcycleofmanagementprocess,
enhancing employees challenging spirit, deepening of
knowledge, thinking revolution, and ability to cope with
change in environment. Organizationvitalitycanbeassessed
by developing a sense of organizational mission or purpose,
articulation and congruence of values, the level ofanxietyon
an individual and group basis, the degree of linkages
between groups and the amount of information exchange
(Vicenzi & Adkins, 2000 cited in Kumar Bishwas,2011).This
can be achieved by making a proper coordination between
the processes in the organization and developing a learning
culture. Knowledge management process with strategic
focus will lead toward this. Therefore, corporate vitality is
the corporate energy reflected in its resource, competencies
and capabilities to enable it compete favourably, surviveand
gain competitive advantage (Akpotu&Konyefa, 2018).
Corporate Responsiveness
Organizational responsiveness refers to the extent to which
firms react rapidly to changes in a business environment to
seize potential opportunities (Bernardes & Hanna, 2009).
This responsiveness reflects“the efficiencyand effectiveness
with which firms sense, interpret, and act on market stimuli
(Garrett, Covin & Slevin, 2009), and has been treated as a
competitive advantage. For example, Wei and Wang (2011)
proposed that this responsiveness represents a competitive
marketing advantage by deploying resources to satisfy
customer needs. Inman Sale, Green, Jr and Whitten (2011)
noted that a firm with a high level of responsiveness
outperforms its competitors intermsofoperations.Inmanet
al. (2011) noted that a firm with a high level of
responsiveness outperforms its competitors in terms of
operations.
Scholars have conducted numerous studies to explore how
organizational responsiveness can be enhanced (Wei
&Wang, 2011). According to Bernardes and Hanna (2009)
central to this concept of organizational responsiveness
seems to be the capability to learn fast in an environment
where changes are fast-paced and difficult to foresee.
Accordingly, scholars have increasingly realized that to
develop andmaintainresponsiveness,a firm mustconstantly
learn from partners with rich experiences in terms of
responding to market changes (Yu, Jacobs, Salisbury&Enns,
2013).

From the perspective of dynamic capabilities, organizational
responsiveness assumes the role of adaptivecapacity, which
is reflected in the company's ability to reconfigure its
resources and coordinate processes according to the fast-
changing environment. Although some recent research has
been carried out into the responsiveness of firms from the
perspective of dynamic capabilities (Thongsodsang&
Ussahawanitchakit, 2011), these investigations are still in
their early stages and require more consistent results. What
can be observed is that the perspective of dynamic
capabilities is a versatile integrated theoretical approach
both to the broader theories of management, such as RBV,
and the more specific approaches to marketing, as in the
case of market orientation (Morgan, 2012).
In dynamic and complex environments, organizational
responsiveness presents itself as the adaptive capability of
the company. Organizations can anticipate unexpected
changes and uncertainties more rapidly when this pattern
fits their strategic direction. Zhou and Li (2010) underline
this point when point to strategic orientation as an
important driver of the adaptive capacity of a company.
According to the authors, strategicorientationinfluences the
way.
Market responsiveness is a market-driven behavior of the
firm and its units. Responsiveness requires some market
maturity, as customers, competitors, and other relevant
market actors need to be distinguished. The firmwouldthen
be able to specify a suitable degreeofresponsiveaction, such
as product customization and building customer
relationships (Pehrsson, 2014).
Corporate Innovativeness
In recent years the idea has become consolidated that
innovation is a determining factor for the efficacy and
survival of organizations in a socioeconomic context suchas
the present, characterized by great social, political and
economic transformations. A factor that is now considered
strategic for organizations is the ability to respond in a
reactive and proactive manner to changes and at the same
time to be agents of continual innovation (Odoardi, 2014).
Innovative behavior has been widely conceived by both
scholars and practitioners as an invaluable asset for
organizational competitiveness and success in dynamic
business environments (Montani, Odoardi & Battistelli,
2012). Serving as an effective tool innovation is the
necessary component for organizations to be sustainable
and survive. Keeping up in today’s more competitive
environment, organizations have to be interested in
innovation arisen from knowledge (Yu, Yu & Yu, 2013). By
shoving concern for employees’ needs and anxieties, co-
workers can function as a secure base that would instil
positive psychological experiences and fuel their
engagement in innovative courses of action deemed
functional to effective adaptation to the change process
(Montani et al., 2012). The rapidly changing environment
directed organizations to be innovative for their existence.
Innovation is the important cutting edge under the
circumstances of competitiveness.
Environmental Dynamism and Corporate Vitality
Increased dynamism in the company’s environment may
cause changes of suppliers, purchasers, the general
competitive environment and the nature of competition,
which can be a challenge for the company. Competitive
pressure, domestic and international changes in supply and
demand and government policy force corporations to get
involved in adaptive behaviors for their long-term survival.
Companies that are becomingincreasinglyconfronted witha
more complex and dynamic environment may not have
difficulty in adapting and reacting in these environments,
unlike the unprepared ones (Azadegan 2013). Therefore
companies operating in a highly dynamic environment
experience significantfluctuationsincompetition,changesin
competitive behaviour, changes in customer demand and
technology
Organizations that are more vital most often, integrate its
system continuously in a way that stimulate alterations
within the organization, therebyallowingemployeesand the
organization as a whole to accomplish prevailinginteraction
that helps in building the capacityofbothindividualsandthe
firm (Akpotu&Ozioko, 2020). The resourcefulness and
innovativeness which are indicators of corporate vitality
depend on the environmental dynamism experienced by
individual companies. Environmental dynamism can be
defined in terms of the frequency, size and irregularity of
changes in competition, customer preferences and
technology. In that case, the key issue of the management
team is the acceptance of uncertainty. The extant literature
shows a more diverse view of environmental dynamism. A
high level of environmental dynamism continuously creates
new opportunities for companies. However,whenoperating
at a lower level of environmental dynamics there is less
chance of improving operational capabilities, and quick
reactions are not so critical.
Based on the foregoing, the study hypothesized thus:

METHODOLOGY
The study adopted a cross sectional survey research design.
The population of this study was nine (9) fast moving
consumer goods companies in Rivers State. Since the unit of
analysis was at organizational level, only strategicmanagers
were included. Five managers each were used for each
company giving a total of 45 respondents. Census sampling
was adopted becausethepopulationwassmall.Primary data
was collected using a 5-point Likert scaled questionnaire.
Environmental dynamism was measured on a 7 – item
instrument adapted from the work of Volberda& Van
Bruggen (1997) in a five Likert scale which addresses
environmental dynamism through dynamism, complexity
and predictability measures. Similarly,corporatevitality was
operationally measured through responsivenessitems were
adapted from de Waard, Volberda andSoeters (2013) and

through five items.
The reliability of the instrument was achieved by the use of
the Cronbach Alpha coefficient with all the items scoring
above 0.70. The hypotheses were tested using the
Spearman’s Rank Order Correlation Coefficient with the aid
of Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 23.0. The
research instrument wasalsosubjectedto reliabilitytest and

DISCUSSION OF FINDINGS
The study findings reveal that there is strong positive and
significant correlation between environmental dynamism
and innovativeness of Fast Moving Consumer Goods
Companies in Rivers State, Nigeria. This finding agrees with
earlier studies by Teece and Pisano (1994) that in order to
be able to both sense and seize opportunities in the dynamic
operating environment, business firms must have the
resources and/or ability to reconfigure their existing asset
bases and processes Managerial and technological
capabilities can offer a sustainable competitiveadvantage to
firms in rapidly changing markets only if the firms are able
to sense the changes and understand their consequences,
and to continuously reconfigure their firm-specific resource
bases and processes to fit the environmental requirements
(Teece et al., 1997). Thus, firms must have the ability to
integrate, build, and reconfigure internal and external
competencies so as to change their operational capabilities
such that they address the rapidly changing environment
(Zahra et al., 2006; Teece, 2007).
More so, it has been noted that In firms within industries
exhibiting greater environmental dynamism, such as rapid
changes in technologies, markets, and competition, the top
managers must make quick strategic decisions and develop
creative and innovative strategies to build a rapid response
capability to cope with the changing external conditionsand
thereby to survive and/or prosper in the new environment
(Hitt et al., 1998 Jiao, Alon & Cui, 2011). An innovation
strategy will increase the effectiveness of communication
and planning, and will dynamically enhance the ability to
respond. As the environment changes more rapidly,a higher
level of dynamic capabilities is required to meet customers’
needs (Covin &Slevin, 1989 cited in Jiao, Alon & Cui, 2011).
Flexible and firms possessing vitality rapidly shift from one
strategy to another. So, they can realize different strategic
actions in the competitive arena. Also, corporate vitality
enables businesses to obtain sustainable competitive
advantage by making businesses become more proactive.
Proactive firms can analyze their environment and
determine the external opportunitiesandthreats betterthan
other firms. Thus, they can take advantage of opportunities
while protecting themselves against the environmental
threats. Furthermore, empirical evidences have suggested
that strategic flexibility effects business performance
positively (Nadkarni & Narayanan, 2007).Inadditiontothis,
firms possessing vitality through strategic flexibility may
improve to innovation performance of a firm in a dynamic
environment. Corporate vitality can influence innovation
performance by providing more flexible processes and
structure. Innovation is the most important source of
competitive advantage. Since, innovation can result in new
products that better satisfy customerneeds, canimprove the
quality of existing products, or can reduce the costs of
making products that customers want (Hill & Jones, 2004).
Therefore, organizations that want to become more
innovative in their processes, products, or services must
consider corporate vitality as an alternative.
CONCLUSION

RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the study findings, the study thus recommends:
1. Managers of Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies
should adopt ambidexterity as a strategic initiative to
become more flexible and responsive to the dynamism
in the competitive business environment which will
enable them to build the capacity to effectively exploit
existing competencies as well as exploring new
opportunities with equal dexterity.
2. Managers of Fast Moving Consumer Goods Companies
should form and support work environments that
inspire employeestowardcontinuouslearningandopen
