3. Jugaad is the new creation
Laxmi showcases the true essence of Jugaad.
Right from inventing an onion slicing machine to
the pillion seat of a bicycle, to inventing a cost-
effective pad-making machine.
Entrepreneurs should always look for finding
cost-effective and frugal alternatives instead
of investing their money in exorbitant
machines.
4. The work is complete only when it is
completed, not when it just appears to be
right.
When Laxmi’s colleague makes a mistake while
repairing a gate, his boss tells him, “Kaam tab
khatam hota hai jab who theek hota hai. Lagta Nahi”
This incident depicts the human nature of doing
work in haste.
We must make it a habit to scrutinize our work
after it's been completed so that there is no
room for error.
5. Great leaders are born out of the
most unusual circumstances
When everyone in the village spoke ill about Laxmi
including his own wife and mother. He fought bravely
through all the obstacles with sheer conviction and
confidence. Every time he came up with a solution,
his ideas were rejected and scrapped by society.
One should never lose hope in life, one shall
succeed eventually beating all the odds and
obstacles.
6. You can not win a battle alone
Laxmi could not have become Padman without the
assistance of the cobbler, who provided glue; the
butler, who provided blood samples for his
experiment; and, most importantly, the professor’s
son, who introduced Laxmi to the world of the
internet.
To complete a herculean task, we must ask for
assistance and support from our coworkers or
friends.
7. Big things start small
Laxmi thought about the idea of making pads when
his wife refused to buy pads to save money.
Lakshmi's efforts to find solution to this problem
ended with him giving a speech at the United
Nations.
Would like to quote a lesson from
Mahabharata, the written in Bhagwad Geeta: “Do
your karma without worrying about the returns"
8. Entrepreneurs should never
limit themselves
After excessive criticism that Padman received, had he
restricted himself till there, he wouldn’t have achieved
his desired impact
After getting the feedback, Padman decided to test the
product himself by wearing the pad and going out of his
daily routine with a simulated uterus made from a
football bladder filled with animal blood.
Entrepreneurs take feedback with a Minimum Viable
Product (MVP) and experiment as they go along.
9. No one can help you till you help yourself
The character, Lakshmi Kant Chauhan an 8th
standard pass, workshop worker in a small village.
But his willingness to learn, and fully explore the
process of making a pad, from buying cotton to
make the pads to working at a professor's house to
gain knowledge is very commendable.
Laxmi may not have received formal education
but he is highly versed in determination, integrity,
and character. He is a man of wisdom.
10. Collaborating with the right
people
Lakshmi collaborated with the right people who
can give him ideas to evolve his product. He tried
to connect with a student of Medical College so
that he can get customer feedback and insights,
Unfortunately, he failed there.
Then he worked as a servant in a Professor’s house
with the hope that he will get insights from him.
Unfortunately, again he failed. But, he got some
very good insights from Google Mama.
11. Do not forget why you started
When Laxmi received the “Life-Changing
Innovation of the Year” award for his Pad-making
machine. Instead of registering his patent and
earning crores of rupees, all he wanted was to
build low-cost pad-making machines so that
sanitary pads become affordable to rural women.
This incident depicts that Entrepreneurs must
always remember why they started in the first
place. They must not be lured by distractions.
12. Market Size
Total Available Market (TAM):
Laxmi’s aim is to sell his product Pari
Sanitary Pad to the whole world.
Serviceable Available Market (SAM):
Laxmi is aspiring to capture cities,
towns, and metro cities.
Serviceable Obtainable Market (SOM) :
Laxmi started selling his product in his
village, where he started his journey.

13. The Real Padman Of India
Arunachalam Muruganantham
He is a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore in Tamil
Nadu, India. He is the inventor of the low-cost sanitary
pad-making machine and is credited for innovating
grassroots mechanisms for generating awareness about
traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in
rural India.
14. THANK YOU!
