Everyone wants to make a difference. When people feel involved, feel that they make a difference, they can achieve superhuman results. When they don't feel involved, recognised, and able to contribute, they become demotivated.
Benefits Management is a way of measuring to demonstrate results. With the right measures and reporting in place, people can see what a difference they make and can see how their changes in behaviour and activity affect the organisation's (and their team's) success. That's why it is so powerful!

Finding Product / Market Fit: Introducing the PMF Matrix - Presentation by Ri...Rishi Dean
These slides were used to facilitate a discussion of entrepreneurial MIT alums, mainly from the MIT Sloan business school. My intention was to introduce many of the newer, leaner concepts of early stage start-up development to a group that often sees "technology first" businesses.
This presentation centers on the concept of Product / Market Fit: what it is, why it's important, and how to achieve it. I propose my "Product Market Fit Matrix" that helps to characterize the issues of the start-up and presents various frameworks that can help guide development. In a sense the Product / Market Fit Matrix is a meta-framework.

This is an introduction to product management at technology company. It was originally presented to a class at General Assembly in New York City. Throughout the class, we did an exercise meant to give the students a foundation on the responsibilities of a product manager. The goal of the class is to provide an introduction to the product manager job and to help students understand the roles and responsibilities of a product manager. With this information, the expectation is that a student can feel comfortable with their ability to grow into a product manager role at a technology company.
If you work in digital products you've probably recognized the rapid rate of innovation and change that is needed to keep up with technology and competitors. Clearly we can no longer track and manage to a 2 year roadmap; a new paradigm to plan & manage products is needed. Agile helped us respond and adapt to change along the way but Lean helps us pivot in completely new directions. In this talk Natalie will explain tools and techniques for managing a continuously evolving roadmap of customer and product hypotheses.

Enterprise vs Start-up

Collaboration & Productivity
2. Product management
Product management is an organizational lifecycle
function within a company dealing with the planning,
forecasting, and production, or marketing of a product or
products at all stages of the product life-cycle
Wikipedia
Deliver good and working products on time…
…to earn your paycheck
Regardless the environment, scope or product, still the same target
3. GOOD: Users like it, Client likes it, it's used, it’s engaging, it
has a good user experience, it serves the purpose and
addresses the needs, and you love what you’ve built
WORKING: Optimal performance, minimal on bugs, minimal
on technical depth, minimal on maintenance costs, high
quality
ON TIME: The time, when the client expects it.
What you need (people to delegate to, technology, tools,
knowledge,..) , to be able to do so, is up to you to figure out!
4. Essentials
- Market/Environment/Customer understanding
- Vision of opportunities/needs to be addressed
- Vision how to address the needs
- Budget & Financials
- Scope, Requirements , features, roadmap, prioritization
- Communicate the solution (Wireframes, Slides, POCs..)
- Coding, testing, release planning, packaging
- Maintain & Enhance
- Marketing/Promotion strategy
- Go to market strategy
- Pricing & Sales strategy
Product vision
Product
development
Product sales &
marketing
6. Why is hard to be a Product Manager
• Every delivery, every environment and every customer is different,
everywhere = you have to be flexible, not the client
• There are huge differences in the approach in different
environments
• Problems and obstacles are directly dependent on the size of
environment, mostly yours, not your client’s
• You are accountable and responsible to figure everything out (why,
how, what, who)
• No matter what they say, sometimes you just have to do leap of
faith and take the risk
Scopes/Environments:
– B2B or B2C
– Startup delivery or Corporate delivery or Both
– One product or portfolio of products
– New solution vs Existing solution
8. Main differences/obstacles
• Product manager/responsible is “assigned” and
may not direct connection to the “high-level”
• Budget upfront based on business case may be
easier to get but harder to understand
• Environment culture, long processes, procedures
& policies, legacy may need more flexibility and
handling the politics, multiple stakeholders etc.
• Possible Absence of Product Manager role or
split to multiple different roles/people
• Not clearly defined goals, not clear what you can
do, almost clear what you cannot do
• Fail of the product may just open opportunity for
new one
• CEO is product manager or delegated
trusted person
• Limited budget & resources, survival,
budget after the successful delivery
• Environment is in most cases pushing to
find the most effective way, only using
what is necessary to deliver
• Owner/CEO defines vision and mission
and products which are needed
• Product Manager role is just a part of
Founders job
• Fail of the product may actually cause
Start-up to go bankrupt
9. It can work in both
- Analyze the environment (understand who and what you’re
dealing with to set the right approach/needs for you)
- Discover the need which you can address
- Build a vision around addressing the need
- Build a plan how you can achieve the vision
- Pitch the plan to the client(s) and get buy-in
- Define the main scope to be addressed first
- Set milestones and goals and start delivery
- Always communicate with your client and be transparent
- Deliver in as small iterations as possible and check every
deliverable with the client
- Always be prepared to reprioritize
- Always be able to start from the scratch
