Product management is an organizational lifecycle
function within a company dealing with the planning,
forecasting, and production, or marketing of a product or
products at all stages of the product life-cycle

Regardless the environment, scope or product, still the same target
GOOD: Users like it, Client likes it, it's used, it’s engaging, it
has a good user experience, it serves the purpose and
addresses the needs, and you love what you’ve built
WORKING: Optimal performance, minimal on bugs, minimal
on technical depth, minimal on maintenance costs, high
quality
ON TIME: The time, when the client expects it.
What you need (people to delegate to, technology, tools,
knowledge,..) , to be able to do so, is up to you to figure out!

Why is hard to be a Product Manager
• Every delivery, every environment and every customer is different,
everywhere = you have to be flexible, not the client
• There are huge differences in the approach in different
environments
• Problems and obstacles are directly dependent on the size of
environment, mostly yours, not your client’s
• You are accountable and responsible to figure everything out (why,
how, what, who)
• No matter what they say, sometimes you just have to do leap of
faith and take the risk
Scopes/Environments:
– B2B or B2C
– Startup delivery or Corporate delivery or Both
– One product or portfolio of products
– New solution vs Existing solution

Main differences/obstacles
• Product manager/responsible is “assigned” and
may not direct connection to the “high-level”
• Budget upfront based on business case may be
easier to get but harder to understand
• Environment culture, long processes, procedures
& policies, legacy may need more flexibility and
handling the politics, multiple stakeholders etc.
• Possible Absence of Product Manager role or
split to multiple different roles/people
• Not clearly defined goals, not clear what you can
do, almost clear what you cannot do
• Fail of the product may just open opportunity for
new one
• CEO is product manager or delegated
trusted person
• Limited budget & resources, survival,
budget after the successful delivery
• Environment is in most cases pushing to
find the most effective way, only using
what is necessary to deliver
• Owner/CEO defines vision and mission
and products which are needed
• Product Manager role is just a part of
Founders job
• Fail of the product may actually cause
Start-up to go bankrupt
It can work in both
- Analyze the environment (understand who and what you’re
dealing with to set the right approach/needs for you)
- Discover the need which you can address
- Build a vision around addressing the need
- Build a plan how you can achieve the vision
- Pitch the plan to the client(s) and get buy-in
- Define the main scope to be addressed first
- Set milestones and goals and start delivery
- Always communicate with your client and be transparent
- Deliver in as small iterations as possible and check every
deliverable with the client
- Always be prepared to reprioritize
- Always be able to start from the scratch

What you need (people to delegate to, technology, tools, knowledge,..) , to be able to do so, is up to you to figure out!

Why is hard to be a Product Manager • Every delivery, every environment and every customer is different, everywhere = you have to be flexible, not the client • There are huge differences in the approach in different environments • Problems and obstacles are directly dependent on the size of environment, mostly yours, not your client’s • You are accountable and responsible to figure everything out (why, how, what, who) • No matter what they say, sometimes you just have to do leap of faith and take the risk Scopes/Environments: – B2B or B2C – Startup delivery or Corporate delivery or Both – One product or portfolio of products – New solution vs Existing solution

Main differences/obstacles • Product manager/responsible is “assigned” and may not direct connection to the “high-level” • Budget upfront based on business case may be easier to get but harder to understand • Environment culture, long processes, procedures & policies, legacy may need more flexibility and handling the politics, multiple stakeholders etc. • Possible Absence of Product Manager role or split to multiple different roles/people • Not clearly defined goals, not clear what you can do, almost clear what you cannot do • Fail of the product may just open opportunity for new one • CEO is product manager or delegated trusted person • Limited budget & resources, survival, budget after the successful delivery • Environment is in most cases pushing to find the most effective way, only using what is necessary to deliver • Owner/CEO defines vision and mission and products which are needed • Product Manager role is just a part of Founders job • Fail of the product may actually cause Start-up to go bankrupt
