This document outlines key factors for effective technology implementation in schools, including professional development that is planned, ongoing, and involves teacher leaders; strong school leadership that sets high standards and supports teachers; an organizational culture that encourages collaboration; and robust support through technology assistance, incentives, administrative help, and community fundraising.

2. While many schools differ in terms of
available technology, there are a few key
factors that will facilitate technology
implementation with what is available at
each school.

 There needs to be effective professional
development that is:
 Planned and intentional: Carefully selected
and geared towards the intended goals of
the school.
 Ongoing: Occurs on an ongoing basis
throughout the school year.

 A systemic process: Should involve having
teachers take active roles as well as
leadership roles. Teacher leaders should be
encouraged to create a culture where
professional development is school-wide
and long-lasting.

 School leadership needs to take on
multiple roles such as:
 Role model: Lead by example
 Leader of a Learning Organization: Set the
tone by setting high standards.
 Motivator and Cheerleader: Encourage and
support teacher efforts

 Facilitator: Provide learning opportunities for
teachers and identify barriers in order to
resolve problems.

Structure
 There needs to be a school culture that
supports and encourages change by
allowing teachers the freedom to

teacher successes in the
implementation of technology.

There needs to be strong support in order
to implement the use of technology in the
classroom.

 Support for participation: Offering
incentives to encourage participation

are hands on and supportive through the

stakeholders in the community to
purchase additional technology
