communicative language teaching in the 1970s.
 Biggs & Moore, 1993 suggested that students need to
be provided with interactive and co-operative learning
tasks.

 Improving Students’ Speaking Skill through Debate Technique
by Richa Rubiati, 2010.

 Issue: Low marks in speaking assessment and problem
in delivering speech in presentation.
 Target Population: Semester 2 Students at KPTM
Kuala Lumpur.
 Why we should solve this problem?
 To help students get high marks for speaking assessment
 To increase their level of proficiency in oral
communication
 To build students’ confidence level in oral
communication
 To make English classes more meaningful for them.
The research objectives of this research are:
 To suggest effective instructional strategies that
promote forum discussion.
 To identify the communication barriers faced by
students in the classroom.
 To investigate whether forum discussion helps to
enhance students oral communication skills.

Enhancing oral communication skills among kptm students through forum discussions

  • 3.  This issue already exist since the introduction of communicative language teaching in the 1970s.  Biggs & Moore, 1993 suggested that students need to be provided with interactive and co-operative learning tasks.  Previous Research:  Enhancing Oral Communication Skills through Pair work Strategies by Moaza Aziz Ahmad Abdulla, 2006.  Quantitative (Correlational Research)  Improving Students’ Speaking Skill through Debate Technique by Richa Rubiati, 2010.  Quantitative (Experimental Research)
  • 4.  Issue: Low marks in speaking assessment and problem in delivering speech in presentation.  Target Population: Semester 2 Students at KPTM Kuala Lumpur.  Why we should solve this problem?  To help students get high marks for speaking assessment  To increase their level of proficiency in oral communication  To build students’ confidence level in oral communication  To make English classes more meaningful for them.

  • 9.  Quantitative Research  Experimental Designs: To establish possible cause and effect between forum presentation and students’ oral communication skills. Experimental Group: Using Forum Discussion in class. Control Group: Traditional teaching and learning classroom.
  • 10.  There are 2 tools that will be used in this research: Observation Questionnaire •Monitor and watch closely teaching learning process and collect the data from result of action. –Identify how forum presentation can help students’ oral communication skills –Identify effective instructional strategies •2 observation checklist will be used; students’ participation in forum discussion and teacher’s involvement in giving instructions. •Will be given before the learning process to identify barriers of oral communications faced by students. •Solely focused on students’ point of view/experience.

Observation Data is collected by using classroom observation checklist. 2. What are the communication barriers faced by students in the classroom? Questionnaire Data is analyzed to the frequency (percentage), mean and standard deviation for each item. 3. How can forum discussion helps to enhance students oral communication skills? Observation Data is collected by using group observation checklist.
