Will the flipped classroom be a flop by Willy WoodWilly Wood
Every year there's a new educational approach/trend/fad that everyone gets excited about. In recent years, "hot" topics have included multiple intelligences, differentiated instruction, RTI, and Common Core State Standards, to name just a few. One of the current hot topics is the "flipped" classroom. Many people, looking for a more effective approach to teaching and learning, are taking up this approach. Magazine articles (mostly laudatory) about the approach are popping up like mushrooms after a spring shower. Sixty Minutes even did a segment on it!
The influence of web and mobile technologies on traditional industries has lead to a shift in the skills needed to get a job. Design thinking is an approach to problem solving that utilizes visual thinking to test and iterate. In this workshop we’ll look at the ways you can use design thinking to teach yourself a new skill. We’ll talk about the philosophy behind design thinking as well as ways of incorporating its tenants into learning practices.
Questioning is one of the most important skills that a teacher must have in order to translate or decode those that are written in the books into a meaningful learning experience. It is skill that will illicit learners to think deeper and enhance their reasoning abilities. Thus, asking questions should not just be mere questioning it must a form a question that will allow the learners think out of the box answers and make meaning of their learning. Hence questions shout be HOTS or those questions that will enable learners higher order thinking skills. because the way to assimilate knowledge through allowing learners to connect the knowledge they have learned in the classroom into meaningful learning experiences that they may apply in the real world. Because learning must be directed towards holistic development of the child, it should allow him to develop a decision-making skill by way of developing his way of thinking, giving questions that will allow him to think deeper and give answers that will be more than the expected response to the problem.
Effective Time Management Techniques to Teach Your Employees | Webinar 09.22.15BizLibrary
Effective Time Management Techniques to Teach Your Employees Do we ever really manage time? It frequently feels like our work week manages us. The reality of effective time management isn’t to try and squeeze more and more productive minutes out of every day, but to find ways to focus energy and effort into those hours we allocate to work.Effective time management, however, is a competency we can master (and teach) that will improve the quality of our lives both at work and at home. In today’s complex world, we have more and more distractions and demands on our time, so it’s extremely important to master techniques of time management to make the most of a resource that is not renewable, never repeats and is limited each day. In this webinar we’ll provide effective time management techniques for yourself and your employees.

This is an overview of the CSM Mentor Program for faculty. Most of the words are in the notes section which you can see if you download the presentation.
New faculty can become more productive faster if they have a mentor to turn to. And sometimes faculty need a mentor when they must learn new skills. This presentation explains how the mentor program works at this college. To view the speaker notes you should download the file. Feedback welcome!
I used BB 9.1 for 11 courses over the past academic year and this is some of what I learned. At the end of the presentation are a few slides on what you should do when you copy an old shell to a new shell. I use the notes page for all the text so you may have to download the file to understand some of the slides.
Do you use PowerPoint in the classroom? Did you know that not reading (or having) bullets to the students will result in a 79% increase in their transfer ability and a 28% increase in retention? This session will review research on PowerPoint and learning and present 5 simple ways to create presentations that enhance student learning. The text is mostly in speaker notes so you must download the file to see it.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
