`` True Freedom `` By Langston Hughes
America is known as the land of the free, but is anyone really free? One might view freedom as
abolished slavery, but true freedom gives one the ability to make choices and act on decisions. True
freedom might be gained through lessons learned from history, from accomplishing and seeing dreams
become reality, or from standing up for beliefs. Langston Hughes, an American poet known for his
writing during the Harlem Renaissance period said, In all my life, I have never been free. I have never
been able to do anything with freedom, except in the field of my writing. (citation). As a young
African American man, Hughes faced man obstacles, but writing gave him a sense of freedom of
expression. His poetry reached people of various social, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of all nations and beliefs have the right to experience freedom from injustice and to live in
peace and equality no matter what they look like or believe. In the line, I ve seen its muddy bosom
turn all golden in the sunset, (cite) Hughes use of the words muddy bosom symbolizes brown skin.
Although some may not see the beauty in the muddiness, rivers can turn golden or beautiful in the
sunset. If people would take the time to get to know others and not judge them by their outward
appearance, they could see the beauty within the soul. Like rivers, people have a past that helped
shape them. Each person, like a river has deep roots, perseverance, and a need for freedom and
understanding. Rivers are confined by land as people are confined by laws, but just as rivers can
change course, people can change society. Langston Hughes, like the rivers in The Negro Speaks of
Rivers, preserved in the face of adversity as he forged new streams of thought.
In Harlem, another example of the struggle for true freedom is represented as Langston Hughes
questions, What happens to a dream deferred? (cite) Hughes explores the reality of what happens to
people when they are unable to accomplish

Political Back Channels
This article discusses the role of political back channels in the siting of social service facilities, with a
focus on group homes, arguing that the political back channels impair social services ability to place
facilities in neighbourhoods outside of very low income areas. The authors argue their theory by using
a case study composed of interviews, media analysis, and a spatial analysis of the city of Worcester.
The article relates to other literature such as Jennifer Wolch and Michael Dear s works on back
channel politics and group homes. The authors are limited due to the article s scope and the lack of
research in this specific area of health geography.

Within this literature, community opposition to group homes is often taken as a given (Davidson

the state and those that proceed outside of it (Pierce et al., 2012) due to the articles

Definition Of Heterosexuality
Heterosexuality is a social construct. Historically, what heterosexuality is has been a synonym for
normal. After all, according to author Hanne Blank, normal is not a mode of eternal truth, it is a way
to describe commons and conformity with expectations. (Straight, P.11) A handful of people today, see
heterosexuality as something normal, and anything other than heterosexual is abnormal and needs
justification. This justification holds individuals back from coming out and being themselves in
public. Why place this barrier on them? Why is there a universal expectation for non heterosexuals to
come out the closet? Why only, specifically, them?
In order to understand the coming out process, one must know the mental and physical struggles that
follow. Because not everyone approves of this so called abnormal behavior , many closeted
individuals experience mental or physical abuse from their direct families or environment. For
instance, a handful of young LGBTQ youth end up being homeless due to abuse or rejection from
their direct families. This is an unfair burden that has weighed upon the LGBTQ community as a
whole. In addition, even though some individuals receive support, most non heterosexuals do not have
the luxury of acceptance in an open minded environment. All these struggles can lead to serious
mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. It is
Retana 1 unfortunate that most non heterosexuals have to deal with prolong mental illnesses that stem

Understanding Why Race, Ethnicity And Nativity
4.3 Focused analysis on main ODW
We now focus on understanding why Race, ethnicity and nativity , (i.e., culture), and Household
economic characteristics (i.e., household as an economic agent) are the most well connected
determinant nodes in the ODW network.
The visualization in Figure 6a offers a graphical overview of the ODW network removing the links
that do not directly connect culture determinant. This visualization displays this node high
connectivity within the model (links with 88.89% of other determinants) as a reason behind its main
relevance, leaving out just two nodes, Household type and Occupational standing . Similarly, a black
loop around the node represents the determinant´s own weight (26.54) that renders its number of inner
links adjusted by the amount of binary nodes.
Culture determinant`s incoming (54%) and outgoing (46%) connections afforded for both supportive
and influencing roles in the model, although the supportive role prevailed as the ratio between the
outgoing and incoming (out/in) links was 0.86. This supportive role had likewise been preeminent in
the subset of cyclic relationships established with other nodes by both incoming and outgoing links,
which accounted for 76.92% of the culture node s connections, as the out/in link weight ratio
remained below the unit for all the cases (0.14 in average).
Culture stronger cyclic relationships stood with the nodes of household geographic characteristics and
economy . With statistically

Analysis Of Arthur Jackson Holmes By Arthur Holmes
If I have set it down it is because that which is clearly known hath less terror than that which is but
hinted at and guessed . page 23 This quote gives an explanation for the mysterious events that place in
the book. Assumptions can be made that many guesses will be made throughout the book . The world
is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes. Where do you think I have been?
Holmes addresses Watson by asking a rhetorical question. When he gets back from his club, the
detectives gives some advice. Holmes says that some answers are right in front of you and tries to
build Watson as a detective. Just tell me what it all means,Watson and I ll owe you more than ever I
can hope to pay. When Sir Henry addresses Watson this way , it gives latter the rare opportunity to
play the head detective. Watson s means of attempting to answer questions like this provides a layout
to Holmes s method. I knew that seclusion and solitude were very necessary for my friend in those
hours of intense mental conception during which he weighed every particle of evidence, constructed
alternative theories, balanced one against the other , and made up his mind as to which points were
essential and which immaterials. Watson explains one of Holmes s method. Throughout the book
Watson is always left out of the problem solving. Watson supports Holmes as a detective and
completely defends Holmes and reflects the quality that Holmes makes use of people

Agricultural Production And Its Effect On People s...
1. Introduction
Subsidy is known as the payments or money given to individuals, firms or organisations by the
government, in order to help them financially. In this essay, it will be discussed that, three main
reasons for a government to subsidise a product, in terms of ensuring local output, improving people s
health, and helping low income families. However, issues will be bought while granting subsidies,
therefore, two cautions will also be suggested regarding the problem of inefficiency and damages to
foreign producers who are not receiving subsidies.
2. Reasons for a government to subsidise a product
2.1 To ensure local output
One of the reasons for a government to give subsidies is to ensure local output. Government will give
out subsidies to local sectors, like farms and small businesses, helping them to set up or to continue
their production. Although there are always imported goods from other countries, they cannot be fully
relied on. Take agricultural production as an example, China

exports a large amount of agricultural goods to other places that have very few or no agricultural
outputs, if there is a drought in China, those receiving the output might suffer from lack of food or
have to accept the higher price from other countries. Therefore, in order to ensure local output for
daily necessities like food, the government will subsidise this kind of productions. In America, there
are food that the government is paying to produce, among all,

Diary 1-Personal Narrative
Diary 1
My heart was beating. Pounding right out of my chest. After, 5 tireless months of meticulous crafting
and hundreds of hours of practice, it was finally the day to present our masterpiece. Every weekend
spent at my friend s basement drafting scripts and painting backdrops. Every school day spent
discussing new ideas for the play. Along with becoming insane about recyclable materials and art
supplies, we grew as a family. We are a strong sisterhood that have laughed together and cried
together, and together we are ready to show the world what we have accomplished. I woke up bright
and early that fine morning, eager to step out onto the competition floor. My head in the clouds,
excited yet nervous at the same time. But despite my daze, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Every minute of my time onstage was thrilling. I was appointed the superhero Clyde (the orange

the evil computer programmer. Although it was a bit cliche, our humorous interpretation of the video
characters and their world seems to appeal to the audience. The judges occasionally chuckled and so
did the audience. And finally when the skit was complete we walked off stage with our chins high, for
we had managed to stay in the time limit and no one forgot their lines. We were proud of all the work
we did and were relieved that it was over
Following our jaw dropping performance was the Team B s time to go. We had to watch it. So after
quickly dropping our props back into the holding room we dashed back to the competition site to
watch our school rival. Their main theme was spongebob. They started of strong with amazing
costumes and backdrops, but their script lacked some of the necessary requirements. But even though
we didn t think they had the better skit, the scores were all in the hands of the judges. The spontaneous
part of the competition wasn t till another 2 hours. But that s a story for another

Hemoglobin and Sickle Cell Disease
Introduction
Sickle cell disease, also known as SCD, is a hereditary blood disorder that takes place due to mutation
in the hemoglobin gene that is found in red blood cells. While it is said to have originated in Africa
and is mostly predominant in African Americans, sickle cell disease is now common among different
ethnic groups all over the world. Sickle cell anemia (HbSS) infects an estimated 70,000 to 100,000
Americans (Housman) and accounts for approximately 70% of anemia in the United States.
Hemoglobin functions as an oxygen carrying protein as it carries oxygen from the lungs through the
arteries and to the rest of the body. In sickle cell disease, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These subunits are held together by ionic, hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic
interactions as well as heme groups that are made up of Fe2+. Hemoglobin can be found in two
different states. The first state is known as the T state when it is tense and oxygen deprived. The
second state is known as R state when is relaxed and oxygenated. Hemoglobin first binds to oxygen
then transports it to blood vessels, which have low oxygen levels. After it releases the oxygen the
blood vessels, the red cells then transports carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs where it
picks oxygen once more.
Cooperativiy, Affinity, and Efficiency
When a subunit binds to oxygen, it changes it conformation and sends messages to other subunits to
bind to oxygen as well. When more hemoglobin monomers (subunits) bind to oxygen, it is increasing
hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, thus leading to better cooperativity. It was also discovered that there
is a higher affinity for purified hemoglobin rather than the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells due
to the anionic compound 2,3 bisphosphoglycerate (2,3 BPG). This molecule binds to hemoglobin in a
small pocket only found in the T state when it is deoxygenized and allows it become stable. It further
causes a reduction in hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, working out in its favor. During the transition
from T to R state, the pocket containing 2,3 BPG is broken and

Listeria monocytogenes Essay
Listeria monocytogenes
Introduction
Listeria monocytogenes, a motile, gram positive rod, is an opportunistic food borne pathogen capable
of causing listeriosis in humans. Listeriosis includes manifestations of septicemia, meningitis,
pneumonia, and encephalitis. L. monocytogenes is also implicated in miscarriages, stillbirth, and
premature birth for pregnant women. L. monocytogenes is a tough bacterium resistant to freezing,
drying, and heat; most strains have been shown to be pathogenic. It is hypothesized that 1 10% of
humans are intestinal carriers of L. monocytogenes. Over 37 mammalian species, including wild and
domestic animals, are capable of L. monocytogenes infection and transmission. Extensive
environmental reservoirs for L. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathogenic L. monocytogenes go through an intracellular life cycle involving early escape from the
phagocytic vacuole, rapid intracytoplasmic multiplication, bacterially induced actin based motility,
and direct spread to neighboring cells, in which they reinitiate the cycle. The bacterium is first
phagocytosed by these cells and secretes a pore forming toxin called listeriolysin, which allows the
bacterium to escape from the phagosome. All virulent strains of L. monocytogenes synthesize and
secrete listeriolysin. Phospholipase A and B are other virulence factors that facilitate escape of L.
monocytogenes from the phagosome. Once out of the phagosome L. monocytogenes is capable of
rapid division in the cytoplasm, evading the immune response and moving throughout the cytoplasm
from cell to cell. L. monocytogenes is well known for its ability to propel itself like a rocket through
the cell cytoplasm. This is the result of the bacterium s ability to polymerize actin filaments at its tail
end. Actin is arranged in subunits to form microfilaments that are capable of directing cell movement.
L. monocytogenes accomplishes cell motility through a virulence factor called ActA that takes
advantage of normal actin polymerization going on in the cell. The ActA protein shares sequence
homology with a protein called WASP that is found in virtually all eukaryotic cells. WASP is
responsible for recognizing and

What Was The Civil Rights Movement In The 1960 s
The 1960 s in the United States of America
The 1960s was a tumultuous time in politics, music, and pop culture. Sometimes it was called the
decade of discontent because there were riots and the Vietnam War was going on during this period.
The 60s were also an important time for the civil rights movement. Nicknamed the Rights Revolution
, many acts were passed in congress because of marches, riots, sit ins, and more. When young
Americans began to disagree with the older generation, their dissatisfaction came out through the
music they made. They also changed their culture by having longer hair, dressing differently, and
trying to stand out and speak their beliefs.

So many different iconic songs and artists came from this era, including Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin,
the Beach Boys, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and so many more (Pitchfork). Some popular music genres
included British invasion, rock, motown, and R B. Although rock entered the music industry in the
50s, it thrived in the 60s. There also started to be many different subgenres of rock including surf rock
(The Beach Boys), hard rock (The Rolling Stones), folk rock/protest music (Simon and Garfunkel),
and many others. Because of all of these popular artists and groups, music festivals boomed. People
went to all different kinds of festivals to see their favorite artists (Pearson). The biggest song from the
decade was a rock indebted dance track called The Twist by Chubby Checker according to Billboard
(The Top 20 Billboard Hot 100 Hits of the 1960s). Young adult s music was so different from their
parents . Rock was loud and disruptive, just like the young people of that generation that were fighting
for civil rights. Their music became their voice for a cultural revolution. During this time, the Beatles
music started gaining fame in Britain and then moving to the United States where they changed
modern history and music. The Beatles showed the U.S. how style could have the impact of a cultural
revelation. They embodied how America was changing drastically. Even Bob Dylan understood their
greatness as he once said to his biographer Anthony Scaduto, They were doing things nobody else was
doing, But I just kept it to myself that I really dug them. Everybody else thought they were just for the
teenyboppers, that they were gonna pass right away. But it was obvious to me that they had staying
power. I knew they were pointing the direction that music had to go. . . . It seemed

Life and Impact of Genghis Khan Genghis Khan (1162 1227) was a Mongol leader who rose from a
humble background to become the emperor of the largest continuous empire in history. He conquered
large regions of Central Asia and China after uniting the nomadic tribes of the Mongolian Plateau.
After his death, his descendants expanded the empire s boundaries even further, until it stretched to
places such as Poland, Syria, Vietnam, and Korea. At the height of their power, the Mongols ruled
over 11 to 12 million contiguous square miles, which is an area approximately the size of Africa.

When the first Mongolian caravans arrived, however, they were ambushed. All of their goods were
stolen and their merchants were killed. Even though their army was outnumbered, the Mongols
rapidly conquered one city after another. Some notable cities involved in this conflict include
Bukhara, Samarkand, and Urgench. Soldiers who resisted and aristocrats were usually killed, while
skilled workers and artisans were often saved. Common citizens were captured and used as human
shields for the next attack. The number of deaths during Chinggis Khan s wars is unknown, most
likely because the Mongols enhanced their terrifying image as a way of spreading fear throughout the
world. By the time Chinggis returned to his home in Mongolia in 1225, he ruled over a vast territory
ranging from the Sea of Japan to the Caspian Sea. He did not rest for long, however, before he turned

Budweiser Puppy Love Ad Analysis
Budweiser s Commercial Puppy Love
Budweiser s commercial Puppy Love aired during the 2014 Super Bowl had such a powerful
attraction to the audience that were watching. I look at the type of advertising strategy s Budweiser

Physics Reflection
On my physics unit test I got 25/37. I understood most part of this unit but there were some ups and
downs on the way with some concepts and homework. I felt like I could have done better if I
understood how the energy contributes to the weather system and the pyramid, also how to calculate
for different types of questions. For example, speed or converting potential energy to kinetic energy or
kinetic to potential energy.
Questions:
1. for the first question, I understood everything and how to do it because it was one of the first things
we learned in physics. Finding potential energy is not that difficult until you go more in depth with it.
I did find it hard at first when learning about it, but after asking for help, it did get easier. To find
potential energy you have to do P.E = m (mass) x g (acceleration of gravity [9.8m/s2]) x h (height).
Then you just fill in the formula and solve for potential energy.
2. These questions were not that hard at first because I thought we were just solving for kinetic energy.
But when I saw the km/h and had no idea what to do with it because I never remembered working
with it in the past. So I randomly multiplied the 30km/h in my head without showing the work because
I was so lost and was running out of time. But I do understand now why we did not do anything with
the 30km/h. We did not do anything with the 30km/h because it was just a reference point for us. And
to figure out kinetic energy, you cannot add the speed at

Waterboarding History
The history of waterboarding goes back a lot further than most people even realize. The technique
commonly referred to as waterboarding was first documented in the 14th century, but has been used
on and off around the world since before the Spanish Inquisition1. The term waterboarding is actually
a reference to two different techniques, with one of them being the more commonly used today. The
first technique involves the pumping of water directly into a person s stomach. The other technique is
the one most people think of when they hear the word waterboarding. This technique involves the
placement of a cloth material over the mouth and a steady stream of water poured into the throat.
Those steps lead to the person being interrogated experiencing a feeling as if they are drowning. This
often leads to the unconsciousness of the interrogated. The person is awoken and the cycle is

Waterboarding is known and used, because of the effectiveness at which it causes the person severe
mental suffering in an effort to gain intelligence. The fact that it meets the definition of the term
torture, means that it would be illegal under the same reasoning as torture is illegal under the standards
of International and U.S. law. Furthermore, one of the biggest arguments in favor of waterboarding
after the events of 9/11, was the fact that the U.S. was at war with terrorists. So therefore it was ok to
waterboard terrorists to find out information. However, Article 2 of the UN convention against torture
states, there are no circumstances whatsoever, whether a state of war or a threat of war, that can be
used as a justification for torture. This means that no matter what the circumstances surrounding the
reason behind someone being tortured, the act is still illegal by international law and therefore illegal
by U.S. standards as

Impact Of Migrations Of Pastoral Peoples On The Middle Ages

Analyze the impact that migrations of pastoral peoples had on the development of civilization from

correspond to the Vikings and the Magyars and the Arabs (protagonists of the invasion Muslim

pastoralism to the central and eastern steppes, the growth of urban areas in Central Asia oases, and
ongoing mutually beneficial commercial activity between those cultural areas (Christian 902). All

The Rise Of The Qing Dynasty
During the years 1851 1866 there was massive civil war, or as some would consider it, a rebellion in
China. This period of turmoil was not only the most destructive war of the nineteenth century, but
likely the bloodiest civil war of all time. (Platt, 2012) The ruling government was the Qing dynasty,
who had been in power since the mid 1600 s. There were widespread problems throughout the country
including natural disasters such as droughts, famines, and floods. (Robert Worden, 1988) There were a
substantial number of lower class citizens who were unhappy with their living conditions and with the
Manchu rulers of the Qing dynasty. There was a large gap in economic status between the lower class
and the wealthy members of the government. This social tension along with China being defeated
militarily by France and Britain lead to a citizen uprising in the region of south China. Known as the
Taiping Rebellion, this large scale revolt was fought in an attempt to create a new Han Chinese
dynasty that would unite Christianity and Confucianism. (Black, 2013) The Taiping Rebellion
impacted Chinese history in two main ways: the Chinese lower class learned to fight for social change,
which lead to other rebellions, and, at the same time, the war showcased the Chinese government s
intolerance for and ability to thwart societal change. The first main impact the rebellion had on
Chinese history was that the Chinese people, who were possibility influence by the American Civil
war,

Similarities And Differences Between Julius Caesar And...
Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great were both two very powerful leaders in the first and second
century BC. They came from different backgrounds and rose to power in different manners. Their
achievements and policies affected Rome and Greece history and future drastically. Julius Caesar and
Alexander the Great were successful and ambitious leaders that are different and similar in many
aspects, such as their background, rise to power, the ends of their power, and their accomplishments in
their careers. Julius Caesar strived for power at a young age. He wasn t born into royalty as Alexander
the Great was. When Caesar was a young man, he allied with Marius by marrying one of his men s
daughters when Marius was attacking Rome. After Marius was defeated by Sulla, Caesar served in the
army until Sulla died and he returned to Rome. He was kidnapped and enslaved by pirates until he
bought his own freedom, then assembled a small army, captured the pirates and crucified them. From
there, he became a financial secretary of Spain, an administrator in Rome, and a chief priest. He
worked hard every step of the way and was determined to make changes in the Roman Republic.
Alexander the Great was born into royalty as son of King Philip II of Macedonia, and Olympias,
daughter of King Neoptolemus of Epirus. He was taught by Aristotle growing up and learned
campaigning and the Hellenic culture. While his father was away on a campaign, Alexander won his

Gregorian Chant
Gregorian Chant
This music can be divided into three types, marked by the degree of difficulty. Simple chants allowed
the whole congregation to participate, and some could easily reach back before Gregory, perhaps even

More complex are the antiphons for lauds and vespers. Still, they are not too difficult for a monastic
community with members of varying skills. The O antiphons for Advent belong to this second group.
Finally, solo cantors or small groups of trained musicians would sing the complex or melismatic
chants for the propers of the Mass. These complex chants are built of structural notes that are linked
by an elaborate interlacing of notes, not unlike the Celtic knots found in the art of the Book ... Show

There are varying definitions of the term, ranging from a slower and mellower form of rock music to a
subgenre of pop music. The detractors of pop rock often deride it as a slick, commercial product, less
authentic than rock music
Much pop and rock music has been very similar in sound, instrumentation and even lyrical content.
The terms pop rock and power pop have been used to describe more commercially successful music
that uses elements from, or the form of, rock music. Pop rock has been defined as an upbeat variety of
rock music represented by artists and groups bands such as Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Everly
Brothers, Rod Stewart, Chicago, and Peter Frampton
The term pop has been used since the early twentieth century to refer to popular music in general, but
from the mid 1950s it began to be used for a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often
characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.[6][7] In the aftermath of the British Invasion,
from about 1967, it was increasingly used in opposition to the term rock music, to describe a form that

The City Of Lancaster s General Plan
Introduction: I have chosen the City of Lancaster s General Plan entitled, Soaring into the Future .
Entitled so to pay homage to the City s desire to grow and change, as well as a nod to its economic
support from Edwards Air Force Base. The City of Lancaster is a city in the Northern Los Angeles
County, in the western Mojave Desert. The City is separated from other communities because it is
located in the valley between the Tehachapi Mountains to the North and the San Gabriel Mountains to
the South. The area has a warm semi arid steppe climate which is less hot but rainier than areas with a
typical arid climate. This particular plan when into effect July 14, 2009 and is expected to last until the
year 2030. Ultimately I will argue that due to the desire to maintain the City of Lancaster as a rural
escape for commuters and inability to provide jobs the implementation of these programs can become
contradictory.
History of the City: The first General Plan for the City of Lancaster was adopted in 1980. At that time,
the area in question occupied a space of approximately 37 square miles, with a population of 47, 882
people. Eight years later, the area had increased to 83 square miles, with a population of
approximately 100,000 residents. This significant increase in size and population prompted the City
Council to adopt a new General Plan in March of 1992. However, between 1988 and the adoption of
the new plan in 1992, the City incorporated an additional 12 square miles,

My Passion Of Music As A Passion For Music
In the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, had a love for music. It helped him
grieve when his mom died and music continued to be one of the most important things in his life.
When he was fighting mutant aliens, he plugged in his headphones and let his life have a soundtrack.
Ever since I was little, like Peter Quill, I had a passion for music. Whether I was playing an
instrument, singing, or just listening to it, music has played a huge role in my life. It has helped me
through the bad times and the good times. In my life, music has become a major part of my identity.
It all began in junior high when I took a couple instruments for a test drive. I loved the way the sticks
pounded on drums and the way the oboe squeaked like a mouse. In the end, I chose the saxophone. I
love the way my fingers glided over the keys as a jazzy flow of music poured out. Don t get me wrong
though because it took me a while before I fully became advanced. I give credit to my sister for my
passion for music. I looked up to her(even if I don t want to admit it). Filled with admiration, I
witnessed her becoming drum major, being student director for the musical and getting solos in choir.
At one time, I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Fast forward a couple years, she s currently
at college to become a music teacher.
All throughout high school, music has been substantial part in my life. Being in Madrigals, a special

Essay On Judgement In To Kill A Mockingbird
Beneath the Skin
There will always be that one person that gets hate and one that everybody loves. Living up to other s
expectation is an intricate way to fit in with society. Judgement isn t the only problem in this
generation; judging somebody by their actions and appearances cause people to be outcasted which
makes an impact on society. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the narrator, Scout Finch, sums up
what has happened in her preteen years, along with her brother, Jem Finch. As they are growing up,
they face conflicts throughout their hometown, Maycomb. Maycomb is a small little town in Alabama
full of judgemental racist hypocrites. One day, their dad, Atticus Finch, is set off to handle a case
about an African American, Tom Robinson, being framed for raping a young white girl, Mayella
Ewell, daughter in of the lowest families. As a lawyer, Atticus was up with Tom. After losing the case
against Mayella s dad, Bob Ewells, Scout, and Jem have lost their social issues. In a city like
Maycomb, residents and citizens are making critiques while being prejudice when it comes to
segregation and racism. Furthermore, the novel explains that people like to judge and reject the
unfamiliar.
Judgement is one of society s biggest conflict. In chapter 9, Atticus tries to explain to the housekeeper,
Calpurnia, about why he wants the kids to grow up in the right direction saying, Why reasonable

Diary Of A Madman, Ah Q, And An Unimportant Affair
Lu Xun often makes a point to include the underlying cruelty found in Chinese culture within his
stories. Using characters from Diary of a Madman, Ah Q, and an Unimportant Affair, I will explain
why this topic stood out to me the most. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a madman who
writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who is deemed simply
as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the society, as well as by
his own doings. Lastly, in An Unimportant Affair the main character witnesses an event that changes
his outlook on life and the society around him and makes him contemplate his motives. In Diary of a
Madman, the main character has been locked in a room in his older brother s home. At one point, he
claims he hasn t seen the moon in thirty years. He begins by telling us he fears the neighbor, Old Zhao

  • 2. `` True Freedom `` By Langston Hughes America is known as the land of the free, but is anyone really free? One might view freedom as abolished slavery, but true freedom gives one the ability to make choices and act on decisions. True freedom might be gained through lessons learned from history, from accomplishing and seeing dreams become reality, or from standing up for beliefs. Langston Hughes, an American poet known for his writing during the Harlem Renaissance period said, In all my life, I have never been free. I have never been able to do anything with freedom, except in the field of my writing. (citation). As a young African American man, Hughes faced man obstacles, but writing gave him a sense of freedom of expression. His poetry reached people of various social, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People of all nations and beliefs have the right to experience freedom from injustice and to live in peace and equality no matter what they look like or believe. In the line, I ve seen its muddy bosom turn all golden in the sunset, (cite) Hughes use of the words muddy bosom symbolizes brown skin. Although some may not see the beauty in the muddiness, rivers can turn golden or beautiful in the sunset. If people would take the time to get to know others and not judge them by their outward appearance, they could see the beauty within the soul. Like rivers, people have a past that helped shape them. Each person, like a river has deep roots, perseverance, and a need for freedom and understanding. Rivers are confined by land as people are confined by laws, but just as rivers can change course, people can change society. Langston Hughes, like the rivers in The Negro Speaks of Rivers, preserved in the face of adversity as he forged new streams of thought. In Harlem, another example of the struggle for true freedom is represented as Langston Hughes questions, What happens to a dream deferred? (cite) Hughes explores the reality of what happens to people when they are unable to accomplish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Political Back Channels This article discusses the role of political back channels in the siting of social service facilities, with a focus on group homes, arguing that the political back channels impair social services ability to place facilities in neighbourhoods outside of very low income areas. The authors argue their theory by using a case study composed of interviews, media analysis, and a spatial analysis of the city of Worcester. The article relates to other literature such as Jennifer Wolch and Michael Dear s works on back channel politics and group homes. The authors are limited due to the article s scope and the lack of research in this specific area of health geography. • 5. Definition Of Heterosexuality Heterosexuality is a social construct. Historically, what heterosexuality is has been a synonym for normal. After all, according to author Hanne Blank, normal is not a mode of eternal truth, it is a way to describe commons and conformity with expectations. (Straight, P.11) A handful of people today, see heterosexuality as something normal, and anything other than heterosexual is abnormal and needs justification. This justification holds individuals back from coming out and being themselves in public. Why place this barrier on them? Why is there a universal expectation for non heterosexuals to come out the closet? Why only, specifically, them? In order to understand the coming out process, one must know the mental and physical struggles that follow. Because not everyone approves of this so called abnormal behavior , many closeted individuals experience mental or physical abuse from their direct families or environment. For instance, a handful of young LGBTQ youth end up being homeless due to abuse or rejection from their direct families. This is an unfair burden that has weighed upon the LGBTQ community as a whole. In addition, even though some individuals receive support, most non heterosexuals do not have the luxury of acceptance in an open minded environment. All these struggles can lead to serious mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. It is Retana 1 unfortunate that most non heterosexuals have to deal with prolong mental illnesses that stem from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Understanding Why Race, Ethnicity And Nativity 4.3 Focused analysis on main ODW We now focus on understanding why Race, ethnicity and nativity , (i.e., culture), and Household economic characteristics (i.e., household as an economic agent) are the most well connected determinant nodes in the ODW network. The visualization in Figure 6a offers a graphical overview of the ODW network removing the links that do not directly connect culture determinant. This visualization displays this node high connectivity within the model (links with 88.89% of other determinants) as a reason behind its main relevance, leaving out just two nodes, Household type and Occupational standing . Similarly, a black loop around the node represents the determinant´s own weight (26.54) that renders its number of inner links adjusted by the amount of binary nodes. Culture determinant`s incoming (54%) and outgoing (46%) connections afforded for both supportive and influencing roles in the model, although the supportive role prevailed as the ratio between the outgoing and incoming (out/in) links was 0.86. This supportive role had likewise been preeminent in the subset of cyclic relationships established with other nodes by both incoming and outgoing links, which accounted for 76.92% of the culture node s connections, as the out/in link weight ratio remained below the unit for all the cases (0.14 in average). Culture stronger cyclic relationships stood with the nodes of household geographic characteristics and economy . With statistically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Assumptions can be made that many guesses will be made throughout the book . The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes. Where do you think I have been? Holmes addresses Watson by asking a rhetorical question. When he gets back from his club, the detectives gives some advice. Holmes says that some answers are right in front of you and tries to build Watson as a detective. Just tell me what it all means,Watson and I ll owe you more than ever I can hope to pay. When Sir Henry addresses Watson this way , it gives latter the rare opportunity to play the head detective. Watson s means of attempting to answer questions like this provides a layout to Holmes s method. I knew that seclusion and solitude were very necessary for my friend in those hours of intense mental conception during which he weighed every particle of evidence, constructed alternative theories, balanced one against the other , and made up his mind as to which points were essential and which immaterials. Watson explains one of Holmes s method. Throughout the book Watson is always left out of the problem solving. Although there are always imported goods from other countries, they cannot be fully relied on. Take agricultural production as an example, China ECONOMICS ESSAY !1 exports a large amount of agricultural goods to other places that have very few or no agricultural outputs, if there is a drought in China, those receiving the output might suffer from lack of food or have to accept the higher price from other countries. Therefore, in order to ensure local output for daily necessities like food, the government will subsidise this kind of productions. After, 5 tireless months of meticulous crafting and hundreds of hours of practice, it was finally the day to present our masterpiece. Every weekend spent at my friend s basement drafting scripts and painting backdrops. Every school day spent discussing new ideas for the play. Hemoglobin And Sickle Cell Disease Ana Maria Sutac Biochemistry 370 11/13/2015 Hemoglobin and Sickle Cell Disease Introduction Sickle cell disease, also known as SCD, is a hereditary blood disorder that takes place due to mutation in the hemoglobin gene that is found in red blood cells. While it is said to have originated in Africa and is mostly predominant in African Americans, sickle cell disease is now common among different ethnic groups all over the world. Sickle cell anemia (HbSS) infects an estimated 70,000 to 100,000 Americans (Housman) and accounts for approximately 70% of anemia in the United States. Hemoglobin functions as an oxygen carrying protein as it carries oxygen from the lungs through the arteries and to the rest of the body. In sickle cell disease, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These subunits are held together by ionic, hydrogen bonds, van der Waals forces, hydrophobic interactions as well as heme groups that are made up of Fe2+. Hemoglobin can be found in two different states. The first state is known as the T state when it is tense and oxygen deprived. The second state is known as R state when is relaxed and oxygenated. Hemoglobin first binds to oxygen then transports it to blood vessels, which have low oxygen levels. After it releases the oxygen the blood vessels, the red cells then transports carbon dioxide (CO2) from the tissues to the lungs where it picks oxygen once more. Cooperativiy, Affinity, and Efficiency When a subunit binds to oxygen, it changes it conformation and sends messages to other subunits to bind to oxygen as well. When more hemoglobin monomers (subunits) bind to oxygen, it is increasing hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, thus leading to better cooperativity. It was also discovered that there is a higher affinity for purified hemoglobin rather than the hemoglobin inside the red blood cells due to the anionic compound 2,3 bisphosphoglycerate (2,3 BPG). This molecule binds to hemoglobin in a small pocket only found in the T state when it is deoxygenized and allows it become stable. It further causes a reduction in hemoglobin s affinity to oxygen, working out in its favor. During the transition from T to R state, the pocket containing 2,3 BPG is broken and ... L. monocytogenes is a tough bacterium resistant to freezing, drying, and heat; most strains have been shown to be pathogenic. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathogenic L. monocytogenes go through an intracellular life cycle involving early escape from the phagocytic vacuole, rapid intracytoplasmic multiplication, bacterially induced actin based motility, and direct spread to neighboring cells, in which they reinitiate the cycle. The bacterium is first phagocytosed by these cells and secretes a pore forming toxin called listeriolysin, which allows the bacterium to escape from the phagosome. All virulent strains of L. monocytogenes synthesize and secrete listeriolysin. Phospholipase A and B are other virulence factors that facilitate escape of L. monocytogenes from the phagosome. Once out of the phagosome L. monocytogenes is capable of rapid division in the cytoplasm, evading the immune response and moving throughout the cytoplasm from cell to cell. L. monocytogenes is well known for its ability to propel itself like a rocket through the cell cytoplasm. This is the result of the bacterium s ability to polymerize actin filaments at its tail end. Actin is arranged in subunits to form microfilaments that are capable of directing cell movement. L. monocytogenes accomplishes cell motility through a virulence factor called ActA that takes advantage of normal actin polymerization going on in the cell. The ActA protein shares sequence homology with a protein called WASP that is found in virtually all eukaryotic cells. WASP is responsible for recognizing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finding potential energy is not that difficult until you go more in depth with it. I did find it hard at first when learning about it, but after asking for help, it did get easier. This period of turmoil was not only the most destructive war of the nineteenth century, but likely the bloodiest civil war of all time. (Platt, 2012) The ruling government was the Qing dynasty, who had been in power since the mid 1600 s. There were widespread problems throughout the country including natural disasters such as droughts, famines, and floods. There was a large gap in economic status between the lower class and the wealthy members of the government. Simple chants allowed the whole congregation to participate, and some could easily reach back before Gregory, perhaps even to the music of the synagogue. More complex are the antiphons for lauds and vespers. Still, they are not too difficult for a monastic community with members of varying skills. The O antiphons for Advent belong to this second group. Finally, solo cantors or small groups of trained musicians would sing the complex or melismatic chants for the propers of the Mass. The detractors of pop rock often deride it as a slick, commercial product, less authentic than rock music Much pop and rock music has been very similar in sound, instrumentation and even lyrical content. The terms pop rock and power pop have been used to describe more commercially successful music that uses elements from, or the form of, rock music. Pop rock has been defined as an upbeat variety of rock music represented by artists and groups bands such as Elton John, Paul McCartney, The Everly Brothers, Rod Stewart, Chicago, and Peter Frampton The term pop has been used since the early twentieth century to refer to popular music in general, but from the mid 1950s it began to be used for a distinct genre, aimed at a youth market, often characterized as a softer alternative to rock and roll.[6][7] In the aftermath of the British Invasion, from about 1967, it was increasingly used in opposition to the term rock music, to describe a form that was more commercial, ephemeral and ... My niche happens to fall in the STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and math. So, my brain prefers to think in terms of numerics and there I sat in AP World and US history classes, learning what seemed to me as silly, trivial facts about history, until a particular subject grasped my attention: the evolution of technology and the unfathomable thoughts of inventors. After his caretakers bioprinted a device that instantly helped him breathe, Kaiba could be taken off a ventilator and breathe through an entire day (it was abnormal for him to make it an entire day without being unable to breathe.) This case is considered a prime example of how customized 3D printing is transforming healthcare as we know it, according to Meskó. Seven years ago, my grandfather passed away from oral cancer. • 34. The City Of Lancaster s General Plan Introduction: I have chosen the City of Lancaster s General Plan entitled, Soaring into the Future . Entitled so to pay homage to the City s desire to grow and change, as well as a nod to its economic support from Edwards Air Force Base. The City of Lancaster is a city in the Northern Los Angeles County, in the western Mojave Desert. The City is separated from other communities because it is located in the valley between the Tehachapi Mountains to the North and the San Gabriel Mountains to the South. The area has a warm semi arid steppe climate which is less hot but rainier than areas with a typical arid climate. This particular plan when into effect July 14, 2009 and is expected to last until the year 2030. Ultimately I will argue that due to the desire to maintain the City of Lancaster as a rural escape for commuters and inability to provide jobs the implementation of these programs can become contradictory. History of the City: The first General Plan for the City of Lancaster was adopted in 1980. At that time, the area in question occupied a space of approximately 37 square miles, with a population of 47, 882 people. Eight years later, the area had increased to 83 square miles, with a population of approximately 100,000 residents. This significant increase in size and population prompted the City Council to adopt a new General Plan in March of 1992. However, between 1988 and the adoption of the new plan in 1992, the City incorporated an additional 12 square miles, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It helped him grieve when his mom died and music continued to be one of the most important things in his life. When he was fighting mutant aliens, he plugged in his headphones and let his life have a soundtrack. Ever since I was little, like Peter Quill, I had a passion for music. Whether I was playing an instrument, singing, or just listening to it, music has played a huge role in my life. It has helped me through the bad times and the good times. In my life, music has become a major part of my identity. It all began in junior high when I took a couple instruments for a test drive. I loved the way the sticks pounded on drums and the way the oboe squeaked like a mouse. In the end, I chose the saxophone. I love the way my fingers glided over the keys as a jazzy flow of music poured out. Don t get me wrong though because it took me a while before I fully became advanced. I give credit to my sister for my passion for music. I looked up to her(even if I don t want to admit it). Filled with admiration, I witnessed her becoming drum major, being student director for the musical and getting solos in choir. At one time, I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. In Diary of a Madman, the main character is a madman who writes about his delusions and lives with his older brother. Ah Q follows a man who is deemed simply as Ah Q. It describes his hardships, which are brought on by the cruelty of the society, as well as by his own doings.
