The Effects Of Health Information Levels On Postpartum...
Title Evaluation The title of the journal article to be critically evaluated is Influence of health
information levels on postpartum depression. This title is not sufficiently specific because the
variables are not easily understood. What is meant by health information levels? The reader must
examine the article further to understand if this health information is provided, or does the article
refer to the level of health related knowledge each participant already possessed from another
source, such as their career or education. Furthermore, the article doesn t state a population. It
would be helpful to the reader to know who is experiencing postpartum depression(PPD). For
example, is the PPD experienced by teenagers, first time mothers,... Show more content on

The reason for the lengthiness was that the article provided quite a bit of information regarding the
methodology and results, which may have been presented later in the paper. For example, the title
of measure was described. Also, the writing style of the author is difficult to follow at times.
Overall, the abstract provided more information than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm
readers. Specifically, those readers who are reviewing multiple research studies in order to decide
which are relevant for their particular interest or population.
Introduction and Literature Review Evaluation The introduction and literature review successfully
identifies the importance and prevalence of PPD. However, it moved from citation to citation. For
example, the following excerpt from the article, written by Youash, Sabrina, et al. (2013), states It
has been well established that PPD can affect maternal infant interactions (Beck 2001), and women
with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more
withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Pop et al. 1993) (p. 489). It would increase
readability to combine citations. Thus the sentence would read, It has been well established that
PPD can affect maternal infant interactions, and women with PPD display less affectionate
behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without
such condition (Beck 2001,

Blindness in King Lear Essays
Blindness is defined as, according to dictionaries, unable to see and lacking the sense of sight ,
but in King Lear, written by William Shakespeare, it has a relatively new definition. Blindness, as
Shakespeare portrays, not only a physical inability to see, but also a mental flaw that some
characters present in this tragic play. King Learand the Earl of Gloucester are the two characters
who make up the parallel double plot of the tragedy caused of their lack of sight, mental
blindness. They both undergo a very similar plot and suffer from their false decisions, the ones
they feel very remorseful of later on. In other words, such blindness is the root of false decisions
that leads to disasters. The interaction of physical blindness and... Show more content on

wanted his power instead of being his daughter, he would eventually become an old, poor,
childless man. All of these events noticeably happened in the play because of his lack of sight
about the knowledge of the Great Chain of Being . When Goneril and Regan, Lear s two evil
daughters, kick him out into a storm, he has truly become a vulnerable old man with nothing left
as he says Here I stand your slave, / A poor, infirm, weak, and despised old man... (3, 2, 20)
Yet, his blindness of knowledge is not the only factor leads him to this sudden downfall, from
the king to a despised old man . His lack of sight also prevents him to catch other people s
personality, he judges weather the people are good or evil just by the surface appearances. One
example is that Lear banishes his once most beloved daughter, Cordelia. She is the only loyal
daughter of Lear s who has seen her sister s false love presentations for Lear and does not want to

Depression in Older People
Mental illnesses are increasing at an alarming rate worldwide and is one of the significant health
problems of today s world. This essay will present the manifestation of depression in an elderly
client in a community mental health setting. Depression among the elderly differs from depression
in the younger adults which are accompanied by physical symptoms and co morbidities rather than
emotional symptoms. The presentation of these somatic conditions make the diagnosis of depression
difficult in older people and therefore requires the identification of differences in symptoms of
depression and coexisting somatic conditions. Depression is associated with significant reduction in
cognitive abilities of the elderly. Furthermore decreased in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Depression can cause significant effect on the social capacity of a depressed person thereby
affecting their social functioning and ability to react and deal with stressful life situations. The
literature states that depression in older people generates cascade of symptoms which therefore
result in self care decline and social withdrawal.Social skills deficits are common in depressed
patients and depressive symptoms negatively influence the social skills of the patient. It is
found that depressed patients are less likely to look at their partner during conversation, and
speak less in a low volume compared with normal person.Depressed people are reported to have
poor relationship with their partners and families, work, social activities. Lack of social support,
maladjustment in social and leisure activities, poor quality of relationship with the family
members are the major impacts of depression on the person. People with depression are reported
to have hostility in relationships, constricted social networks, less likely to talk to their family
members, had fewer closed friends and do not do any volunteer or paid work. Their suicidal ideation
and thoughts are associated with disruptive interpersonal relationships and social isolation.
Infrequent participation in physical and social activities were seen in in this client.

Tomato Plant
TOMATO PLANT 1)
Seed: Tomato seeds are small, flat and disk shaped and about 1/8 inch wide. They contain two
energy storage organs called cotyledons and an embryo encased in a hard outer shell called the
seed coat. The seed is the dormant or resting stage of the plant life cycle. When young tomato
plants are damaged, they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed
for a while. Frost damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the
season. Frost damage is marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. Although they won t kill
the plant, frostbites will make them dormant for a while, delaying plant growth. During the
germination process, the seed absorbs moisture and nutrients ... Show more content on

They have their own definite shape and arrangement in plants according to their requirements.
Leaves trap energy from sunlight and convert it into pure compounds. For this the leaves are
arranged on the stem in a way that they are exposed mostly in the sunlight. i) Leaves help in the
process of plant cellular respiration. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called
photorespiration, or light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by
photosynthesis. Since the process of photosynthesis produces more oxygen than the plant can use,
the excess is released into the air through the stomata, tiny air holes in the leaves. The plant takes
its sugars directly from what is being produced by photosynthesis. 5) Food Making: j)
Photosynthesis: the process of producing and releasing oxygen in the air. Photosynthesis is
performed by the plants to produce their own food. The process of Photosynthesis requires direct
sunlight, carbon dioxide and water (H2O). In the process of Photosynthesis, the plants decompose
the molecules of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into hydrogen, carbon and oxygen to produce
glucose which forms the source of their energy, growth and food. This involves the conversion of
stored energy of the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into glucose which is an organic compound
and release oxygen in the process. k) Importance of photosynthesis: Plants are the only living things
that produce their own food.

this to promote social inclusion, physical exercise, boost his self esteem and to make that spiritual
connection.
Key factors which may impact on the John s occupational performance
This inflammatory incurable disease Rheumatoid Arthritis came as a surprise to John as he had
never experienced such an excruciating pain in his joints. Pain initially started in his left hand
and the next day he suffered from the same excruciating pain in his right hand. This really
disturbed him as he had no idea what to do with it. The pain was absolutely excruciating that he
decided to see a doctor and seek medical advice. His doctor was also confused and just
recommended him some Analgesic or Paracetamol tablets to mitigate the pain. This indicates that
John has led a healthy life in his past and has good medical record, since he was experiencing this
kind of disease for the first time in his life; his doctor was unable to learn about his condition in
the first place (Charmaz, pp.976 993).
John went home and took some tablets which relieved him at that particular time. Since the disease
is incurable and chronic, the excruciating pain in his joints surfaced again, this time with more
intensity as it almost locked him up solid by stiffening up his

competitors, wants to be seen more as a symbol of strength, dedication, hard work, sweat,

Essay about Clancy of the Overflow
Clancy of the Overflow Analysis
Bush poetry gives people a unique and interesting prospective into the people who made this
country the way it is today and the history behind it. Clancy of the Overflow is a well known
bush poem by poet AB Banjo Paterson. Clancy of the overflow is about a person from the city who
met a drover/ shearer named Clancy. After meeting him he becomes jealous of Clancy s lifestyle
which is better than his city life. In this poem Banjo uses a variety of poetic devices to get his
message across like the use of suggestive language, descriptive language and imagery. Banjo uses
suggestive language to make the reader realise that country life is much better than city life where it

Banjo does this to persuade the reader in believing that the country lifestyle which is portrayed
as free, clean and laid back is better than the city lifestyle which is portrayed as dirty, hot and
boring. Banjo also makes the reader believe that the attractiveness of living off the land and
idealizing the country life as a drover making the quality of life in the country seems greater
than in the city. Banjo uses imagery and the first person point of view to help the reader imagine
what it would be like to be a drover. The person living in the city imagines what Clancy the
drover is doing and feeling while he is stuck in a hot office all day. As the stock are slowly
stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing and also He sees the vision splendid of the sunlit
plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars. The city living character
is conveying what Clancy the drover is doing and how peaceful it would be if he could do the
same. He also says And I somehow fancy that I d like to change with Clancy. This suggests that
the city living character is somewhat jealous of Clancy, his job and his lifestyle. The city living
character furthermore explains the city life as Of the tramways and the buses making hurry down
the street, and the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting . This suggests that the he
doesn t like his life in the city and considers it as busy and also

Analyzing Virginia Derryberry s Bonaventure Painting
While there are many beautiful and thought provoking works of art to choose from,
Bonaventure, painted by Virginia Derryberry, piqued my interest with its vibrant color and life.
Honestly, I have not visited many museums, but Virginia s interpretation of Savannah s famous
Bonaventure cemetery leaves me wanting to visit more museums. While browsing the museum
there were few that really captured my attention and mesmerized me. I will take this opportunity to
describe, analyze, interpret, and judge Virginia s Bonaventure.
Firstly, I will describe in detail Virginia Derryberry s art piece. Bonaventure is an oil paintingon
canvas and is the largest painting in a series she painted in 1992. Virginia was living in Savannah
and teaching ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The flowers are pivotal to the painting as they serve many purposes. One of their purposes is to
balance out the entirety of the piece. The flowers are also complementary colors that makes the
piece vibrant and harmonious. The placement and color draw the viewers eyes, using line of sight,
first to the flowers, then to the sculptures. Bonaventure is also full of curved lines, most
prominently in the flowers and swan, which gives a very soothing affect, leaving the viewer
relaxed. Virginia used several hues and values in the entire painting to create depth and intensity in
the painting, giving it vibrant coloring. This gives the painting a very light feeling, contrasting with
the cemetery setting. Although Bonaventure is a two dimensional piece of art,
Virginia uses space and placement to give the appearance of three dimensions. She overlaps
objects several times, such as flowers in front of a pedestal, or a figure in front of trees. Techniques
such as this creates the illusion of a three dimensional image. To add to the illusion, she introduces
light with shading and shadow to create the effect of a brightly shinning sun.
Next I will use my analysis of Bonaventure to interpret her piece. Virginia does a

Utopian Society Research Paper
In a theoretical technologically advanced utopian society, we must come to realize that machines
will be a very big role in our society. From transportation to police, machines will be largely
involved in every part of this society. Many depictions have been made of such a society in movies
and novels. They all seem to follow a similar path; people distance themselves from each other,
hiding behind technology. With technology growing rapidly, there will be a shortage of jobs,
meaning there must be solutions to a stable economy. Furthermore, such society must follow strict
guidelines and laws for it to remain utopian.
One such depiction is the universe of Wall E. In this future utopia, humanity has abandoned Earth
and are living on a big space ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The need for its economy to keep circulating requires a different view to the job market as it is
now. This is to prevent massive homelessness because of the automation overtaking many
simpler jobs. Tech based majors will have a great time in this utopia with an endless number of
job positions needed to keep society mostly automated. People with other skills will still have a
place in this society, because some things simply cannot be done as well by a robot, be it
cooking, sports or entertainment. Extra secure laws and regulations will help lower the crime
rates. Such society doesn t need extra strict laws, just more serious consequences to extreme
wrongdoings such as murder or rape. Adding technology to every part of our lives will also keep
many of the crimes from happening such as technologically advanced home security. There will
still be much that should be agreed on for society to follow these guidelines. Especially if the
government shall receive less power, this society has to be very well planned out to prevent
catastrophic results. With all this in mind, this technologically advanced utopia seems rather
plausible in the near

Types Of Big Data And Large Data
Big data is a term used to define the amount of data, structures and unstructured, so huge that
traditional data base managements techniques are rendered useless and the storage and analytics
of this data pose a problem. There are various types of big data and big data can be defined in four
Vs, which are: Volume, Velocity, Variety and Veracity. The problem is solved by Google
Distributed
File System, an application that google created for it s own use to automatically store data.
With the amount of big data multiplying every minute, technologies like cloud computing came
into picture, in many, Hadoop is one which stands out. Hadoop is an open source platform where
big data can be stored, managed and even used. Organisations like Amazon and LinkedIn use the
Hadoop framework to connect to it s customers.
Another new technology is MapReduce. MapReduce maps the input data and provides it to the
user as output in a reduced form due to the clusters of computers working in parallel to individually
process the data.
With the further growth of data more technologies will be explored and if we assume if things
proceed as they are doing, there will be time soon when we won t even have to look for jobs. The
right job for our capabilities will be offered to us by comprehending us on our IQ, our likes and
dislikes, our nature, hobbies, etc.
Big Data comprises of data, structured and unstructured of such vast quantities that managing it, or
even properly utilising it poses

Amelia Earhart s last words were heard 8:43 a.m.; these are the last documented moments of her
life ( Earhart Project ). Any signs or clues as to where Earhart and her plane were located vanished
the second these words had been received, leaving the public stumped and constantly inquiring
about what exactly had become of Amelia Earharton that day. At long last, due to new discoveries,
some light now shines upon Earhart s whereabouts. Despite popular belief, AmeliaEarhart wasn t

the closest island to her destination and the island s beaches were ideal for landing. On top of
this, many artifacts that have to be Earhart s or Noonan s, her navigator, have originated from
Nikumaroro. Most importantly, they found a body matching Earhart s size and race as well on

Why I Am Legend Archetypes
I Am Legend In today s media, we see the Last Man on Earth classic archetype in novels and
movies. They are depicted as brave beyond words and can conquer anything in their path. Sure, they
hit a few bumps in the road during their conquest, but it always works out in the end. The
protagonist shows unbelievable strength in perseverance during his journey. Typically in this
archetype, the Last Manis striving to discover something that may bring mankind back. For Robert
Neville, this is not the case. In the novel, I Am LegendRobert Neville is a failed Last Man on Earth
archetype. He does not have the bravery to continue on throughout his conquest and continuously
proves himself to be weak. He attempts to do his best to be this archetype, but it isn t who he is.
In the novel, I am legend, Neville becomes a monster in the world that he lives in and many of the
vampires are afraid of him, he s the killer that comes out during the day and only wants to kill
them. So essentially, he isn t a hero at all, but a monster to the new world that ... Show more content

The General, The Slave Who Became A Gladiator
The first movie that pops up to someone s mind when we say Drama is Gladiator released in the
year 2000 which is considered historical drama. Ridley Scott works on an inspiring, mesmerizing
and action packed flick to trigger the human feelings of strength, honor, courage, betrayal,
ruthlessness and survival. The character that Russell Crowe plays as the gladiatorsends the audience
back home motivated to fight for what they believe in following what he mentioned in the movie
what we do in life, echoes in eternity . The supporting character in the movie, in specific is the
slave that accompanies the gladiator the whole time reflects the slogan of the movie The General
who became a Slave, the Slave who became a Gladiator .
The Cinematic Style that Ridley Scott develops in the film is dynamic, bravely reflected and acted
genuinely. Yet while discussing the plot we can consider it thrilling but flat. Just when the plot is
heating up the steam is gone. Plus the movement of the sword fights looks like they are on fast
forward.
Scott chose New York and Washington as a geographical area to film. The heroic architecture

out onto the floor, where there is still one hour for the movie to end. The movie is condensing of
plot fragments from the two Roman films from Hollywood Ben Hur (1959) and Spartacus
(1960). If we want to speak of it simply, it is about a betrayed lord seeking revenge, and a
gladiator revolt. The major problem is that Maximus can t be both a gladiator and a player in
imperial politics because this splits the focus. The plot is interesting yet uncomplicated at the same

Theories On How The Universe Formed
Theories of How The Universe Formed There are many theories on how the universes was
created. Some being ideas based on science and some being mere myths. The Big Bang Theory is
a science based theory, it gives a rational explanation as to how the universe might have come into
existence. The Big Bang theory states that all matter of the universestarted a one giant atom which
exploded with a big bangsending dust a gas in all directions. That gas and dust then forming the
suns and planets we know today. This theory was first stated by George Lemaitre, a Belgian
scientist and priest, in 1927. His idea was mostly ignored until 1929 when an astronomer by the
name of Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is indeed expanding. Now, the Big Bang
theory in the perfect reason why this expanding would be occurring, and this expanding is
evidence that some where in history, the universe must have started at one point. The Big Bang
theory explains how the dust and gas got here to form the stars and planets, and why the the
universe would be expanding. Some more evidence of the Big Bang is in the mid 1960s,
astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson were having difficulty tuning into the microwave

Differences And Similarities Between Formula 1 And Indycar
One of the most obvious examples of differences and similarities are the cars, with Formula 1
and IndyCar being similar and NASCAR being the odd one out. However, the differences and
similarities go further than just the looks and the body design. Most people know that there are
mechanical differences between the cars, but not many know the specifics. The Montreal Grand
Prix website states, While the F1 and Indy cars feature open wheels and an open cockpit, NASCAR
drivers are enclosed in a sedan styled vehicle. It s also the heaviest of the three, averaging over
3,250 lbs (1,474 kg) compared to just over 1,500 lbs (680 kg) for F1 and IndyCar. The increased
weight is carried by a 5.86 liter V 8 engine, whereas the lighter F1 and Indy cars... Show more

While they all initially use ungrooved racing tires, if it s raining, IndyCar and F1 apply grooved
racing tires to overcome this challenge. In the aspect of cars, they have very few traits that they all
share. Though IndyCar and F1 cars may have more similarities, NASCAR s vehicles still have their
similarities to the other divisions.
Other than the cars themselves, the three series have other comparable factors, such as their
backstories. Each Motorsports division started in different regions. They were each started by
different individuals or groups of people. According to NASCAR s website, the sport became
more popular after the end of the second World War. In 1947, Bill France formed the first branch
of NASCAR or the modern Monster Energy Series . Later, in the year 1982, members of
NASCAR made a new series, which was given the name the Late Model Sportsman Division,
which later became the XFINITY Series. There is also a third series, the Craftsman Truck
Series, or the Camping World Truck Series that was formed, which uses trucks instead of cars.
The NASCAR website explains how the sport started and how it expanded with the two
additional series that it added. When the sport started, there was no organization. However, as
time went on, and because of men like Bill France, NASCAR became an organized and popular
sport. Founded in 1994, INDYCAR serves as the sanctioning body for the Verizon IndyCar Series...

The 4th Armor Brigade Combat Team Case Study
The 4th Armor Brigade Combat Team (ABCT) has undergone significant changes in the past three
years. The brigade was once one of the best maneuver brigades in Forces Command (FORSCOM)
but is now riddled with issues ranging from lack of a clear vision for the unit to low morale, and
ethical concerns. As the incoming BrigadeCommander, I have had 30 days to assess the unit and
review historical information and an evaluation from the Centers for Army Lessons Learned
(CALL). The most critical leadership problem in the 4th ABCT is the lack of a clear vision for
the unit. I will use Kotter s Eight Step Change Model and the Seven Step Vision Process along
with Kotter s Eight Step change model to establish goals and implement organizational change.
By implementing change using Kotter s model and the seven step vision process, I can alleviate
some of the underlying morale and ethical issues while providing a picture of the future. The
first step of Kotter s Eight Step Change Model is creating a sense of urgency. 4th ABCT has a
systemic leadership problem. One way to create a sense of urgency is through dissatisfaction. I
will start by suspending or removing leaders currently displaying unethical behavior. Not only am I
creating dissatisfaction, but also an opportunity to use talent management to assign leaders within
the brigade who will help support change. I will suspend CPT Seth Cooper and perform a
Commander s inquiry prior to pursuing a 15 6 investigation. This will show the

Informative Essay On Softball
When most people think of softball they don t take it as seriously as someone might for baseball,
but softball is just as tough and competitive. The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher
time. Every position is important, but if your pitcher s arm is sore after every game, then it s going
to impact your team. Baseballplayers are always worried about when their arm will start hurting,
and the pitch count put in place helps so that they don t throw out their arm. Softball is different, in
that there is no pitch count rule. Just because softball players don t put the same stress on their
arms doesn t mean the arm motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league
should put into place a certain amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand
in a sort of whipping motion that increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. With this
sort of movement, it puts a lot of stress on the elbow area causing many young players to get

Mongeon also claims that the best part of her job is being there every day with the residents,
and that they make it worth coming to work every day. Heather adds that the families can make
things a little tough. According to Mongeon the only time that it gets pretty difficult, is when
the resident is in a higher level of care than the facility can give and the family is in denial.
Heather was asked if she believes there are any social issues for an assisted living home, and
immediately said yes. She states that the residents that are higher class look down on the ones that
are maybe more lower class. She ostensibly said that there are quite a few cliques such as the
gossipers, the bullies, the higher class, the judgmental ones, and of course the nosey ones.
Heather stated that an assisted living home and a nursing home are completely different. An
assisted living home provides some help, but the residents must be able to still ambulate on their
own and bath mostly on their own with some assistance. As for a nursing home, faculty helps with
most of the residents needs. They help with toileting, bathing, feeding, and walking. Nursing homes
are a high care facility. Assisted living homes have only three types of services, independent living,
which they are still able to do everything on their own; then there is assisted living in which the
resident may need some assistance with bathing or walking; finally, there is enhanced living

The Medici s Influence On The Renaissance Period
The Medici family, also known commonly as the house of the Medici was a wealthy merchant
class family who gained their wealth and political power through its success in commerce and
banking. With the rise to power of Cosimo de Medici in Florence, the city was launched into the
Renaissance period as the family s support of the arts and humanities were a big influence.
Until the late 14th century the leading family of Florence was the House of Albizzi. The main
challengers to the Albizzi family were the Medicis. The Medici controlled the Medici bank then
Europe s largest bank and an array of other enterprises in Florence and elsewhere. In 1433, the
Albizzi managed to have Cosimo, one of the Medici, exiled. However, a pro Medici leader was ...

By the 1520 s few descendants of Cosimo remained. However, the Medici remained masters of
Florence through their two famous 16th century popes, Leo X and Clement VII. Both were
patrons of the arts, but in the religious field they proved unable to advance the ideas of Martin
Luther. Clement married of his first cousin, Catherine de Medici, to Francis I of France, the future
Henry II. Clement s plan worked as it led to the Medici blood being transferred to the royal family
of Spain.
In the 1500 s Ferdinando, part of the Medici bloodline, did much to keep the name of the Medici

Leghorn with the silk industry. Ferdinando even proposed a Tuscan expedition to the New World

It has been seen as the most widely utilised mode of entry towards rapid international expansion
and is primarily employed by fast food chains such as KFC, Wendy s, Kenny Rogers, A amp; W
and McDonald s among others followed by consumer service businesses such as hotel chains and
car rental, agencies such as Avis and Hertz. Franchises are basically ongoing business
relationships which involves 2 components (the franchisor and the franchisee). The franchisor
(the owners of the business format) issues a licence through an agreement which allows the
franchisee the right or privilege to distribute the goods and services that represents the franchisor
s brand and business system for an agreed sum (royalty or fee) (Doole amp; Lowe, 2008). In
other words, franchising allows the rapid growth or market expansion using a proven business
format (intellectual property of the franchisor) it also allows the assistance in the form of capital
as well as the fervour of a group of network operators that enhance the market positioning of the
franchisee which would not be possible for a new business without huge capitals (Dugan, 1998).
The basics of franchising involve the following elements which are most commonly found in most
franchise agreements. These factors are common, but not compulsory as it depends on the mutual
understanding between the franchisor and the franchisee.

Howard Moore Music
I have always loved The Lord of The Rings trilogy, it has been my refuge, my playground, and my
inspiration through the majority o my life. The music especially in the film as always touched me
very deeply and has encouraged me in such a dramatic way that I myself am pursuing music, both
performance and composition. Then beyond that, the film itself is a great source for my own
personal aesthetic. Now, is this also the product of incredibly talented advertising and marketing,
yes, for sure. However, it is undeniable that musicand movies are irrevocable linked and have been
linked since long before this paper will be examining. While music was and is very important to
film making, the game was changed when Howard Shore masterfully composed his works for
The Lord of The Rings. His music has had such and impact upon the nature of music in the
media that it even perpetrates into video games. I would like to show a brief and surface level
idea of the depth of his work, for I could not do him justice. Furthermore, I am positive that there
are more composers who have had the same effect upon music and film in their own way, but in
this I will focus upon him. In this paper, drawing upon the filmscore, academic journals, my own
personal experiences, literature, and the composer s own word, I will argue that Howard Shore,
through musical setting of The Lord of The Rings, used techniques similar to Wagner s leitmotif
and other musical techniques to create a precedent and standard for

The Moral Responsibilities Within A Corporation
Corporations can be large or small but they all have some sort of ethical impact on their employees,
shareholders, customers, community, and surrounding environments. Richard DeGeorge writes, We
can speak of corporations having moral responsibilities to act in certain ways, and they are morally
responsible for the consequences of their actions on people. (p. 200). Large corporations are
comprised of the board of directors, management, and their workers. They also deal with suppliers,
customers, and have competitors. This essay will examine the moral responsibilities within a
corporation.
In large corporations the success or failure of the company is the responsibility of the board of
directors. According to Richard DeGeorge, The members of the board are responsible to the
shareholders for the selection of honest, effective managers, and especially for the selection for
the CEO and of the president of the corporation. (p. 202). The board members have a moral
responsibility to ensure the corporation is run honestly, in respect to its major policies, and to
ensure the interests of the shareholders are satisfied. The next responsibility within a corporation is
the responsibility management has to its board of directors. DeGeorge writes, It must inform the
board of its actions, the decisions it makes or the decisions to be made, the financial condition of
the firm, its successes and failures, and the like. (p. 202). The management of the corporation is

Swing Band Essay
The swing bands showed a highly organized approach to performing Jazz. Fletcher Henderson s
band started the evolution that established the legacy for big bands to follow, both white and
black. Henderson s band merge into the sections we now call big bands, the contrapuntal lines
necessarily became more formalized and thereby less improvised. The first signs of sectional
activity appeared in the clarinet trios that is heard in Jelly Morton s arrangements. There are four
sections including, the sax, trumpet, trombone and, rhythm section of the classic big band. The sax
section includes four or five players who played in unison and soli. The trumpet section also
included four five players that played in unison or soli and were responsible for the shouts in the
shout chorus. A shout chorus is a climactic, energized chorus (theme/refrain) in a big band
performance, in which the saxophones, trombones, and trumpets play with a more complex and
spirited texture. The most common arrangement is having the sax section play a melody in soli, the
trombones play a countermelody in unison or soli, and the trumpets playing punches or shouts...

There was less solo improvisation in the big band formant than in the earlier Dixieland styles.
Also, there was less freedom in the ensemble passages for personal interpretation. The control of
performance details for ensemble passages had passed from the individual players to the arranger

Jelly Roll Morton s earliest compositions may not be clearly notated yet they were
compositionally conceived. The individual parts may have been left to the players but the
structural design was outlined by Morton. Overall, not all big bands had a great deal of freedom for

Through those linkages Nag and Gioia were able to draw tree knowledge pathways. The knowledge

The knowledge augmentation pathways describe the way to the augmentation of knowledge and
the third track describes how it happens that uncommon knowledge is not used.
In the knowledge adaption pathways executives consider knowledge as most important for
operational efficiency. They believe it s hard to obtain from external sources and they have
confidence in their own knowledge but limited trust in workers knowledge. They are scan ning

that pathway are adapting knowledge and come more likely to an incremental development.
In contrast described before in the knowledge augmentation pathways leaders have a strong
confidence on own knowledge, on workers capabilities and they believe their know ledge is
distinctive and hard to imitate for competitors. Therefore they are scanning pro actively and
engaging others to knowledge work. These companies use uncommon know ledge through
augmentation. Radical innovations are more likely in those companies.

The Writer s Credibility And The Reader s Efficiency
The purpose of substantive editing is to maximize the writer s credibility and the reader s efficiency.
This stage intends to produce a revised manuscript that improves the readability and
understandability of the readers, as well as maintaining the purpose of the text. Editors suggest
appropriate changes according to what the writer wants to accomplish and the intended audience
which determines the content, organization and tone. Thus, the end result of substantive editingis a
balance between the writer s intentions with the readers expectations which in turn serves the text
reliable, accurate and hopefully, useful. Readers respect authors when there is no faulty or missing
information. In order to protect the writer s credibility, editorsconsult subject experts to guarantee
the content is correct and up to date. They keep in mind who the intended audience is (their level
of sophistication, their financial status, their sensitivity towards the topic) so they can determine
what information, which tone, what structure is suitable for them, and still ensure the objectives
of the text are explicit. There will be times when writers forget necessary details that [is needed to
validate] a conclusion (Sutcliffe 583). The lack of content can break a reader s flow: they will not
be prepared to follow the upcoming material. Editors do not want the audience confused because
unpredictability can increase the chances of losing a reader s interest. When there is complete

Important Factors to Remember when Giving a Speech
Back in my high school in Malaysia, I was not really a good speaker. I rarely practiced speaking in

English as its native language because I have taken English classes so language is no longer a

Western Christians In Global Missions Chapter Summary
Western Christians in global mission review
Western Christians in global missions by Paul Borthwick is about the interdependence and unity of
the global Church. The book starts at the conclusion of an era of missions where North America has
taken the helm. As the global missions community changes, North America needs to reassess its
role. There are 4 main integrated points that Borthwick makes that should change the perspective of
the white American middle class missionary. The greater part of evangelical Christians are no
longer in North America. The majority world has just as much if not more missionary activity than
North America. The North American Church needs to form partnerships not dictatorships. Finally,
Borthwick weaves throughout the book the idea that the North American Church has something to
learn from the majority world Church. Some estimate that 70 percent of the worlds bible believing

Thomas Descartes s Dream Argument And The Dream...
In the First Meditation Descartes famously presented his dream argument or dream paradox in
which he questions how we can distinguish between dreams and waking life. In this essay, I will
explore various responses to the argument such as Hobbes and Locke and how I think Descartes
would dismiss these arguments. I will finally present my own criticism alongside the work of
Austin, Simpson and Ryle in order to illustrate the inconsistency of Descartes claims. In order to
deconstruct the dreamparadox I will appeal to one of the three common methods of solving
paradoxes; denying a premise, particularly the first premise as this results in the collapse of the
remaining conditional premises. I will ultimately show that the dream argumentis a paradox and
how this causes the dream argument to fail.
Descartes aim throughout the first segment of his Meditations to overthrow existing foundations of
knowledge and encourages readers to remove prior knowledge and prejudices in order to fully
accept the new foundations which he aims to establish. The method of doubt is used to find beliefs
that can serve as a new foundation for knowledge. Only beliefs that are certain, immune from doubt,
can perform this function. Descartes argued that what we believe on the basis of the senses cannot
meet the standard. Consequently, he concluded, we do not know anything on the basis of our
senses and the dream argument is formed.
The dream argument results from a realization by Descartes that he

Captain America Character Analysis
In the 2011 film, Captain America: The First Avenger by Joe Johnston, a rejected military soldier
transforms into Captain America after taking a super soldier serum to fight in the war against a
terrorist organization, and discovers that to be the hero everyone loves sacrifices have to be made.
Steve Rogers, the main character, symbolizes a young manwho wants to fight for their country in
World War 2, but is too weak and small to be enlisted. The film reinvents the typical man by making
Steve into a super soldier making him taller, stronger, and better looking, thereby encompassing the
physicality of masculinity. However, Steve ultimately rejects the modern conceptions of what it
means to be a man which creates a new type of masculinity that focuses more on emotions and
natural goodness, and is therefore somewhat feminized. Although the film appears to just be
another stereotypical representation of a male leading others to victory fearlessly, it also challenges
the hegemonic codes for masculinity while also presenting an idea of what a real man should be.
During the beginning of the film, Steve is asked Do you wants to kill Nazi s? by Dr. Erskine,
this question is a test to see if he is fit to take the super soldier serum. Steve answers, I don t like
bullies. I don t care where they come from. By not giving into the obvious violent answer, Steve is
challenging the masculine code that men need to be violent. This is what makes Captain America

Miley Is A Primitive, Insuppressible Instinct
It has been two years since the performance at the VMA s and people are still talking about it.
This is exactly what Miley wants and is striving for. According to Jib Fowles, The desire to
exhibit ourselves in such a way as to make others look at us is a primitive, insuppressible instinct
(Fowles 89). Miley is expressing her need for attention in an extreme way and it is working. By
doing crazy and absurd things, she has gotten a lot of attention and people to talk about her and
keep her name in headlines globally. Despite the criticism that she was receiving, her song,
Wrecking Ball, became her first to be at the top of charts in 2014 (Biography.com Editors). A
vast number of people still continue listen to the pop artist and fuel her success and desire for
attention. She has succeeded in being successful by being deemed as number seventeen on
Forbes Magazine s 2014 list of the highest paid celebrities (Forbes.com). Her fans say bad things
about her and judge her for her actions, but they still support her by purchasing and listening to her
music. People everywhere cannot help but become so fascinated in what she is doing, despite
whether they agree with her or not. Her ways are entertaining and interesting because they are
bizarre, which society loves. Miley Cyrushas a large number of people that talk about her in
negative ways, but this does not stop her from doing what she loves, which adds to her fame and
success.
Some say that what she is doing is corrupting

The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light
Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values
in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a
beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is
recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a
brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT
wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen
to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the
audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be
involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of
understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our
motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only
enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something
new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a
community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT.
By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people
will have a better understanding of KULT and its

Outline Of The DSCA Command Relationships During Hurricane...
DSCA Command Relationships during Katrina
SFC Marson, Kellen
Master Leader Course
Class 18 001
Introduction
On August 29th, 2005, Hurrican Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall. Katrina left severe
destruction along the Golf Coast and evenutally breached the New Orleans levee system putting the
city under water. The death toll was estimated at 1,245 people and an estimated $105 billion dollars
in damage occured (Knabb 2011). During Katrina, command relationships failed because of
political differences between President Bush and Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco as to who
should command the National Guard, delays at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in deploying
troops and equipment, and failing to create a unity of effort between National Guard and Active
Duty forces.
National Guard
The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina left tens of thousands of people in New Orleans without
adequate water, food, shelter, and physical security. Law enforcement was in disarray as 200 New
Orleans Police officers left their post. The Louisiana National Guard was short on personnel and
much of their equipment was unserviceable due to flooding. Thousands of people needed help and
critical distribution of resources from Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) failed.
As New Orleans spiraled out of control, looting and crime were becoming a serious problem. The
Louisiana National Guard focused on rescue missions, rather than keeping Law Order. The public
began to blame President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco for their poor response to
the recovery efforts.
In a meeting on Airforce One, President Bush tried to convince Governor Blanco to federalize the
National Guard in order to have all forces under one central command. Governor Blanco refused
this offer, believing that Bush s attempt to federalize the Louisiana National Guard was just attempt
to blame her for post Katrina problems (Farazmand, 2014).
While President Bush and Governor Blanco argued over politics, valuable time was being wasted
and innocent people in New Orleans continued to suffer and parish at the hands of it s own federal
and state governments. Across the country, National Guard Soldiers from various

Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme
In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the
way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to
respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told,
Shotwell and the narrator do not trusteach other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the
other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what
counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s
intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme
uses repetition to show how the narrator s mindis deteriorating while being confined in a small
space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about
what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers,
believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for
one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep
himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in
isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and
focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the

Asch On Conformity
Although not every individual is affected by it, the fear of being alone is prevalent throughout the
world. Monophobia, or the fear of being alone, can cause a person to conform. Whether it be to a
majority, a small group, a single individual, or an idea, conforming is so frequent that it is often
performed blindly. A common example of conformityis dress code within a workplace. If
somebody sees their coworkers wearing a suit and tie, odds are that they will conform to this
standard and dress the same way, in order to not stand out. So why exactly do we conform?
Author Doris Lessing provides an answer to this question in her article, Group Minds. Lessing
describes how westerners conform and how it affects their individuality. Social psychologist at
Rutgers University, Solomon Asch provides similar ideas, but in a more scientific manner. In his
article, Opinions and Social Pressure, Asch studies how men conform to the social pressures of a
group. While each piece presents feasible information, Asch delivers said information in a more
credible format. Lessing and Asch take different approaches to address this topic. Lessing takes a
more philosophical approach, focusing on a western attitude towards conformity. She opens by
stating that westerners view themselves as free individuals, but in actuality they are conforming to
the groups they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lessing, being an author, is credible in the fact that she is an outsider to the psychological world.
This may help her understand the studies as a component of the general public, as opposed to those
with a psychological background. On the other hand, her validity is compromised with phrases that
represent individual opinions, such as it seems to me or my guess is. While personal opinions
credit the piece with philosophical attributes, the credibility is inferior to

Classical Opera Comparison
The elements of Baroque opera are extremely different from the musical elements of the Classical
opera. Baroque opera is more elaborate and complex in comparison to the balanced style of
classical music. While there are many similarities between the two, there are also a significant
amount of differences. Baroqueoperamade use of harmonic progressions and chord progressions,
as well as basso continuo which was less common in the classical era of opera. Baroque had a
more pleasing sound, while classical opera emphasized form, dynamics, and balance.
Baroque is extremely polyphonic and complex, which differs from the simplicity of classical music.
Vivaldi s The Four Seasons , specifically Spring is a very upbeat and chaotic piece. The terraced...

Basso continuo is relative only to the baroque era. In the classical era, basso continuo was
completely forgotten and the composers focused more on the melodic aspects of music.
Classical music focused on the technical sides of music rather than the sound. Classical is very
structured and has one main melody with accompanied parts, making it very simple music.
Haydn s Symphony no. 94 is a great representation of the structured and simple music that makes
up the Classical era. Everyone plays a similar and quite simple part, nothing differs too
significantly and every individual part is complimentary of the other parts. The lack of rhythm
variety among the various parts lead the piece to sound very well organized and put together
overall, because everything is very parallel. This differs vastly from the musical styles of the
Baroque era because it strays away form the polyphonic styles associated with the Baroque era.
The renaissance era was most influential on opera. The middle ages was a productive time in music.
String instruments were invented and people began combining theatre and music. Composers
would try and create musical sequences to tell their stories, otherwise known as the beginning of
opera. But it was not

Character Analysis of Elisa Allen in The Chrysanthemums...
Many readers who analyze Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums , feel Elisa s flowers
represent her repressed sexuality, and her anger and resentment towards men. Some even push the
symbolism of the flowers, and Elisa s masculine actions, to suggest she is unable to establish a true
relationship between herself and another. Her masculine traits and her chrysanthemums are enough
to fulfill her entirely. This essay will discuss an opposing viewpoint. Instead, it will argue that Elisa
s chrysanthemums, and her masculine qualities are natural manifestations of a male dominated
world. Pertinent examples from The Chrysanthemums will be given in an attempt to illustrate that
Elisa s character qualities, and gardening skills,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he gave her any personal praise, as a woman of distinct qualities (one who was vital to the farm
s survival), he might be empowering her. Thus, he keeps his praise for her superficial skills,
growing flowers. In this way, Henry frustrates Elisa by not seeing into her true character. The
flowers represent Elisa trying to find some way of escaping from her frustrated and repressed
husband, not from her own sexual frustration.
Since Elisa is a woman with more than superficial qualities, in addition to being a good worker,
she seeks a way to fit into this world she feels is limited to her. She feels that it is limited because
it is being dominated and interpreted by men. Thus, she tries to seek out some understanding
from a stranger who is looking to find fix it work. Many readers see Elisa as being cold and
frigid towards the stranger at first appearance. Yet, this is quite possibly her intelligent reaction
from being experienced with the realities of life. This scene portrays a combat of wits in which
she shows herself a person of right feeling, one who doesn t let her charitable instincts run away
with her (Beach, 312). Here we have a strange man, and men have proven to Elisa they have a
limited understanding of a woman s gentler qualities. Her reaction shows intelligence, good
instincts, and is revealing of the period in which the story

  • 2. The Effects Of Health Information Levels On Postpartum... Title Evaluation The title of the journal article to be critically evaluated is Influence of health information levels on postpartum depression. This title is not sufficiently specific because the variables are not easily understood. What is meant by health information levels? The reader must examine the article further to understand if this health information is provided, or does the article refer to the level of health related knowledge each participant already possessed from another source, such as their career or education. Furthermore, the article doesn t state a population. It would be helpful to the reader to know who is experiencing postpartum depression(PPD). For example, is the PPD experienced by teenagers, first time mothers,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason for the lengthiness was that the article provided quite a bit of information regarding the methodology and results, which may have been presented later in the paper. For example, the title of measure was described. Also, the writing style of the author is difficult to follow at times. Overall, the abstract provided more information than necessary and may, therefore, overwhelm readers. Specifically, those readers who are reviewing multiple research studies in order to decide which are relevant for their particular interest or population. Introduction and Literature Review Evaluation The introduction and literature review successfully identifies the importance and prevalence of PPD. However, it moved from citation to citation. For example, the following excerpt from the article, written by Youash, Sabrina, et al. (2013), states It has been well established that PPD can affect maternal infant interactions (Beck 2001), and women with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Pop et al. 1993) (p. 489). It would increase readability to combine citations. Thus the sentence would read, It has been well established that PPD can affect maternal infant interactions, and women with PPD display less affectionate behavior, are less responsive to their infants, and are more withdrawn compared to those without such condition (Beck 2001, ... When young tomato plants are damaged, they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed for a while. Frost damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the season. Frost damage is marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. Banjo uses imagery and the first person point of view to help the reader imagine what it would be like to be a drover. The person living in the city imagines what Clancy the drover is doing and feeling while he is stuck in a hot office all day. Bonaventure is also full of curved lines, most prominently in the flowers and swan, which gives a very soothing affect, leaving the viewer relaxed. Virginia used several hues and values in the entire painting to create depth and intensity in the painting, giving it vibrant coloring. This gives the painting a very light feeling, contrasting with the cemetery setting. Although Bonaventure is a two dimensional piece of art, Virginia uses space and placement to give the appearance of three dimensions. She overlaps objects several times, such as flowers in front of a pedestal, or a figure in front of trees. Techniques such as this creates the illusion of a three dimensional image. To add to the illusion, she introduces light with shading and shadow to create the effect of a brightly shinning sun. Next I will use my analysis of Bonaventure to interpret her piece. From transportation to police, machines will be largely involved in every part of this society. Many depictions have been made of such a society in movies and novels. They all seem to follow a similar path; people distance themselves from each other, hiding behind technology. With technology growing rapidly, there will be a shortage of jobs, meaning there must be solutions to a stable economy. Differences And Similarities Between Formula 1 And Indycar One of the most obvious examples of differences and similarities are the cars, with Formula 1 and IndyCar being similar and NASCAR being the odd one out. However, the differences and similarities go further than just the looks and the body design. Most people know that there are mechanical differences between the cars, but not many know the specifics. The Montreal Grand Prix website states, While the F1 and Indy cars feature open wheels and an open cockpit, NASCAR drivers are enclosed in a sedan styled vehicle. It s also the heaviest of the three, averaging over 3,250 lbs (1,474 kg) compared to just over 1,500 lbs (680 kg) for F1 and IndyCar. Other than the cars themselves, the three series have other comparable factors, such as their backstories. Each Motorsports division started in different regions. They were each started by different individuals or groups of people. According to NASCAR s website, the sport became more popular after the end of the second World War. In 1947, Bill France formed the first branch of NASCAR or the modern Monster Energy Series . Later, in the year 1982, members of NASCAR made a new series, which was given the name the Late Model Sportsman Division, which later became the XFINITY Series. There is also a third series, the Craftsman Truck Series, or the Camping World Truck Series that was formed, which uses trucks instead of cars. The NASCAR website explains how the sport started and how it expanded with the two additional series that it added. When the sport started, there was no organization. The brigade was once one of the best maneuver brigades in Forces Command (FORSCOM) but is now riddled with issues ranging from lack of a clear vision for the unit to low morale, and ethical concerns. As the incoming BrigadeCommander, I have had 30 days to assess the unit and review historical information and an evaluation from the Centers for Army Lessons Learned (CALL). The most critical leadership problem in the 4th ABCT is the lack of a clear vision for the unit. I will use Kotter s Eight Step Change Model and the Seven Step Vision Process along with Kotter s Eight Step change model to establish goals and implement organizational change. By implementing change using Kotter s model and the seven step vision process, I can alleviate some of the underlying morale and ethical issues while providing a picture of the future. The first step of Kotter s Eight Step Change Model is creating a sense of urgency. 4th ABCT has a systemic leadership problem. One way to create a sense of urgency is through dissatisfaction. I will start by suspending or removing leaders currently displaying unethical behavior. Not only am I creating dissatisfaction, but also an opportunity to use talent management to assign leaders within the brigade who will help support change. The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher time. Every position is important, but if your pitcher s arm is sore after every game, then it s going to impact your team. Baseballplayers are always worried about when their arm will start hurting, and the pitch count put in place helps so that they don t throw out their arm. Softball is different, in that there is no pitch count rule. Just because softball players don t put the same stress on their arms doesn t mean the arm motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league should put into place a certain amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand in a sort of whipping motion that increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. The trumpet section also included four five players that played in unison or soli and were responsible for the shouts in the shout chorus. A shout chorus is a climactic, energized chorus (theme/refrain) in a big band performance, in which the saxophones, trombones, and trumpets play with a more complex and spirited texture. In the First Meditation Descartes famously presented his dream argument or dream paradox in which he questions how we can distinguish between dreams and waking life. In this essay, I will explore various responses to the argument such as Hobbes and Locke and how I think Descartes would dismiss these arguments. I will finally present my own criticism alongside the work of Austin, Simpson and Ryle in order to illustrate the inconsistency of Descartes claims. In order to deconstruct the dreamparadox I will appeal to one of the three common methods of solving paradoxes; denying a premise, particularly the first premise as this results in the collapse of the remaining conditional premises. I will ultimately show that the dream argumentis a paradox and how this causes the dream argument to fail. Descartes aim throughout the first segment of his Meditations to overthrow existing foundations of knowledge and encourages readers to remove prior knowledge and prejudices in order to fully accept the new foundations which he aims to establish. The method of doubt is used to find beliefs that can serve as a new foundation for knowledge. Only beliefs that are certain, immune from doubt, can perform this function. Descartes argued that what we believe on the basis of the senses cannot meet the standard. Consequently, he concluded, we do not know anything on the basis of our senses and the dream argument is formed. The dream argument results from a realization by Descartes that he ... • 40. The Campaign, A Good And Positive Light Identity As we created this campaign, we developed several themes, symbols, motives and values in order to bring the project together and ensure the audience would receive it favorably, or in a beneficial and positive light. In the campaign, there are two primary themes, the first of which is recognition. In general, KULT is an unknown and ambiguous organization that needs to build a brand or an image for itself among students. The second theme of the campaign is unity. KULT wants to be seen as an organization that offers specific services and content to students who listen to the station or work for it. The goal of the campaign, then, is to provide a unified message to the audience showing exactly what KULT is, what it can do for students, and what it means to be involved. The message will unify the student body by presenting these facts, creating a sense of understanding and interest in the station. These two themes are carried out in several ways. Our motive is to bring students together in recognizing and understanding KULT so they can not only enjoy it, but take advantage of it. Our values are focused around those of KULT: offering something new and fun to benefit the panther community in whatever ways they can and building a community in the station. We bring these elements together with a symbol: a new logo for KULT. By tying these elements together and promoting them through the message and new logo, people will have a better understanding of KULT and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Outline Of The DSCA Command Relationships During Hurricane... DSCA Command Relationships during Katrina SFC Marson, Kellen Master Leader Course Class 18 001 Introduction On August 29th, 2005, Hurrican Katrina, a Category 4 hurricane, made landfall. Katrina left severe destruction along the Golf Coast and evenutally breached the New Orleans levee system putting the city under water. The death toll was estimated at 1,245 people and an estimated $105 billion dollars in damage occured (Knabb 2011). During Katrina, command relationships failed because of political differences between President Bush and Louisiana Governor, Kathleen Blanco as to who should command the National Guard, delays at the National Guard Bureau (NGB) in deploying troops and equipment, and failing to create a unity of effort between National Guard and Active Duty forces. National Guard The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina left tens of thousands of people in New Orleans without adequate water, food, shelter, and physical security. Law enforcement was in disarray as 200 New Orleans Police officers left their post. The Louisiana National Guard was short on personnel and much of their equipment was unserviceable due to flooding. Thousands of people needed help and critical distribution of resources from Defense Support of Civilian Authorities (DSCA) failed. As New Orleans spiraled out of control, looting and crime were becoming a serious problem. The Louisiana National Guard focused on rescue missions, rather than keeping Law Order. The public began to blame President Bush and Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco for their poor response to the recovery efforts. In a meeting on Airforce One, President Bush tried to convince Governor Blanco to federalize the National Guard in order to have all forces under one central command. Governor Blanco refused this offer, believing that Bush s attempt to federalize the Louisiana National Guard was just attempt to blame her for post Katrina problems (Farazmand, 2014). While President Bush and Governor Blanco argued over politics, valuable time was being wasted and innocent people in New Orleans continued to suffer and parish at the hands of it s own federal and state governments. • 42. Literary Devices In The Game By Donald Barthelme In every story, there are many things to analyze. In Game by Donald Barthelme, he shows us the way our minds start to work in stressful situations like how the narrator and Shotwell started to respond while controlling the console for the war. In Game the narrator s name is never told, Shotwell and the narrator do not trusteach other, but are left alone together and trusted to kill the other if they start to behave strangely, although it is never clarified what counts as strange and what counts as normal. Various literary devices are used throughout the story to show us Barthelme s intended theme, some used are: repetition, symbolism, irony, and figurative language. Barthelme uses repetition to show how the narrator s mindis deteriorating while being confined in a small space, isolated from everyone except someone he does not know, with very little instruction about what to do. A lot of what the narrator repeats throughout the story are what makes us, as the readers, believe that his mind is deteriorating. For example, when he repeats that they have been there for one hundred thirty three days, Barthelme is showing how the narrator is counting the days to keep himself reminded. Although, it starts to make him question how long he and Shotwell will be in isolation and it starts to make him think differently about his situation and he starts to realize and focus on about how they are both unwell. Another way Barthelme uses repetition is when the readers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Asch On Conformity Although not every individual is affected by it, the fear of being alone is prevalent throughout the world. Monophobia, or the fear of being alone, can cause a person to conform. Whether it be to a majority, a small group, a single individual, or an idea, conforming is so frequent that it is often performed blindly. A common example of conformityis dress code within a workplace. If somebody sees their coworkers wearing a suit and tie, odds are that they will conform to this standard and dress the same way, in order to not stand out. So why exactly do we conform? Author Doris Lessing provides an answer to this question in her article, Group Minds. Lessing describes how westerners conform and how it affects their individuality. Social psychologist at Rutgers University, Solomon Asch provides similar ideas, but in a more scientific manner. In his article, Opinions and Social Pressure, Asch studies how men conform to the social pressures of a group. While each piece presents feasible information, Asch delivers said information in a more credible format. Lessing and Asch take different approaches to address this topic. Lessing takes a more philosophical approach, focusing on a western attitude towards conformity. She opens by stating that westerners view themselves as free individuals, but in actuality they are conforming to the groups they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lessing, being an author, is credible in the fact that she is an outsider to the psychological world. This may help her understand the studies as a component of the general public, as opposed to those with a psychological background. • 44. Classical Opera Comparison The elements of Baroque opera are extremely different from the musical elements of the Classical opera. Baroque opera is more elaborate and complex in comparison to the balanced style of classical music. While there are many similarities between the two, there are also a significant amount of differences. Baroqueoperamade use of harmonic progressions and chord progressions, as well as basso continuo which was less common in the classical era of opera. Baroque had a more pleasing sound, while classical opera emphasized form, dynamics, and balance. Baroque is extremely polyphonic and complex, which differs from the simplicity of classical music. Vivaldi s The Four Seasons , specifically Spring is a very upbeat and chaotic piece. The terraced... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basso continuo is relative only to the baroque era. In the classical era, basso continuo was completely forgotten and the composers focused more on the melodic aspects of music. Classical music focused on the technical sides of music rather than the sound. Classical is very structured and has one main melody with accompanied parts, making it very simple music. Haydn s Symphony no. 94 is a great representation of the structured and simple music that makes up the Classical era. Everyone plays a similar and quite simple part, nothing differs too significantly and every individual part is complimentary of the other parts. The lack of rhythm variety among the various parts lead the piece to sound very well organized and put together overall, because everything is very parallel. This differs vastly from the musical styles of the Baroque era because it strays away form the polyphonic styles associated with the Baroque era. The renaissance era was most influential on opera. The middle ages was a productive time in music. String instruments were invented and people began combining theatre and music. Composers would try and create musical sequences to tell their stories, otherwise known as the beginning of opera. But it was not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Character Analysis of Elisa Allen in The Chrysanthemums... Many readers who analyze Steinbeck s short story, The Chrysanthemums , feel Elisa s flowers represent her repressed sexuality, and her anger and resentment towards men. Some even push the symbolism of the flowers, and Elisa s masculine actions, to suggest she is unable to establish a true relationship between herself and another. Her masculine traits and her chrysanthemums are enough to fulfill her entirely. This essay will discuss an opposing viewpoint. Instead, it will argue that Elisa s chrysanthemums, and her masculine qualities are natural manifestations of a male dominated world. Pertinent examples from The Chrysanthemums will be given in an attempt to illustrate that Elisa s character qualities, and gardening skills,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he gave her any personal praise, as a woman of distinct qualities (one who was vital to the farm s survival), he might be empowering her. Thus, he keeps his praise for her superficial skills, growing flowers. In this way, Henry frustrates Elisa by not seeing into her true character. The flowers represent Elisa trying to find some way of escaping from her frustrated and repressed husband, not from her own sexual frustration. Since Elisa is a woman with more than superficial qualities, in addition to being a good worker, she seeks a way to fit into this world she feels is limited to her. She feels that it is limited because it is being dominated and interpreted by men. Thus, she tries to seek out some understanding from a stranger who is looking to find fix it work. Many readers see Elisa as being cold and frigid towards the stranger at first appearance. Yet, this is quite possibly her intelligent reaction from being experienced with the realities of life. This scene portrays a combat of wits in which she shows herself a person of right feeling, one who doesn t let her charitable instincts run away with her (Beach, 312). Here we have a strange man, and men have proven to Elisa they have a limited understanding of a woman s gentler qualities. Her reaction shows intelligence, good instincts, and is revealing of the period in which the story ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
