The Dariette has always been known as one of the best places in town to get soft
served ice cream. It has been a hometown favorite since 1947 when it first opened.
In fact many of those who grew up here and come back to visit the area, the
Daritette is the one place they will make sure they stop. The Dariette is owned by
Rich and Jolene Seltz of Fort Dodge. The bought the Dariette in the beginning of
2008 and have run the business for nine years. No one is going to wanna miss all of
the variety of flavors and frozen dishes they have to offer. One of their most famous
and traditional flavor of ice cream is the soft served lemon flavor which has been
around for over 50 years. This flavor has been around since they first opened and
many people from Fort Dodge still come back to get the traditional soft served ice
cream. People who grew up in Fort Dodge but moved away still stop by the Dariette
whenever they are in town. Jolene said, ГўWe always have those loyal customers

The cost required to update the existing network to IP network.
Applying mechanism to ensure that the service level agreement is met.
2. Analysis and specification
2.1 Initial condition
Channel 4 has two studios located in Sydney and Melbourne and four free to air
television channels (channel4, C4forKids, WOW and QTV). In addition, channel 4
has three types of video contents:
InProd content is edited by Channel 4 and finished product is sent as SDI streams to
be stored in the digital media center, via Studio Router.
ExProd content is provided to Channel4 on solid state media as a digitized video
file. These files are stored in the Digital Media center until required.
Live Video Feed is live news and programs to broadcast directly to Australia.
The existing Studio Router takes SDI/ASI input and assign it to many outputs such
as MPEG Encoder, Video output, Satellite Uplink or Digital Video Network (DVN)
to Media Hub.
There are three DVN that transfer MPEG Encoded videos either from Digital Media
Center or live Video from a News Studio to the Media Hub (Figure 1).

Difference Between Gramsci And Marxism
Antonio Gramsci was a leading figure in Marxism in Europe in the first half of the
20th century his work has played a significant role in how Marxists and political
sociologists interrupt the structures of capitalist society. Marxist thought prior to
Gramsci focused on the inevitable contradictions of capitalism that would spell its
destruction. As Marx famously stated the end of the first chapter of the communist
manifesto :
The essential conditions for the existence and for the sway of the bourgeois class is
the formation and augmentation of capital; the condition for capital is wage labour.
Wage labour rests exclusively on competition between the labourers. The advance of
industry, whose involuntary promoter is the bourgeoisie, replaces ... Show more

It remains it a prolonged economic crisis but has no active completion
internationally since the fall of the berlin wall. While Marxism is seeing a
renewed interest by society. The media and other spheres of culture speak of
Marxism as not being a viable alternative but a source for examining the wrongs of
capitalism through the analysis of Marx and by this synthesis a desirable form of
capitalism can be formed. This idea, is a form of concession, the admittance of an
error of the international markets in lieu of making any systematic criticisms.
These arguments get an echo in society where people call for the jailing of bankers
and a regulation of the markets but don t ask any serious questions that trouble the
establishment. Marxists economists like the late Andrew Glyn argue that the
recession was a result of an unsolved crisis of capitalism from the 1970s where
profitability declined and capital had to be shifted from industry to finance. The
way capitalism sought to recover was to introduce neo liberal policies which
inflicted savage austerity cuts on labour in a move to squeeze more profitability
from workers. While in crises again the problem of the tendency of the rate of profit
wasn t dealt with and with the markets failing, austerity measure had to be
reintroduced. This analysis of the economic crisis tells us we are facing a future of
shorter booms and much longer recessions and that capitalism is fundamentally
incapable of

Professor Henry Spearman s Murder At The Margin
Professor Henry Spearman an economist who taught at Harvard and his wife Pidge
Spearman took a much needed vacation to Cinnamon Bay Plantations in the
Caribbean. While on vacation, the Spearmans encounter several people in various
locations including (but not limited to): former US Supreme Justice Curtis Foote,
Felicia Doakes and her cousin General Hudson T. Decker (Ret.), and Bethuel
Fitzhugh. Marshall Jevons s Murder at the Margin is a murder mystery novel that
portrays the relationship between economicsand everyday life. Jevons shows how
we make decisions using economic reasoning and theories unconsciously.
Throughout the book, Spearman utilizes cost benefit analysis to make his
decisions. While on their way to Cruz Bay, Professor Spearman weighed the
options of walking versus taking a cab. He took into consideration the cost of the
cab, the rigor of the trail, and the comfort he and his wife would have on the way.
He settles on taking a cab to save time and comfort (Jevons 98).... Show more content

He figures out that people act certain ways in order to offer themselves the highest
gain or value. So when they don t, there is usually a rational reason. For example,
Spearman notices that Professor Dyke bought more drinks during the hospitality
hour of 6 to 10; but doesn t when the prices go back to regular price. This leads
Spearman to the law of demand: the lower the price of a good, the quantity bought
will increase. At First Spearman believes Professor Dyke was the one who
murdered Decker by poisoning his drink. He suspected this because Dyke didn t
have his favorite drink during the hospitality hour the night of the murder. But later,
Spearman discovers that Dyke had read about the nutmeg in his drinking possibly
being poisonous. This is also an example of Marginal
Infant Development
Cooing and Babbling are stages in infant development when the infant begins its
speech protection. Infants begin cooing by 2 3 months and babbling around 5 6
months. Babies are very interesting as they show tremendous development in their
first year of birth. They tend to produce all kinds of sounds including squeals,
giggling, growling, cry, going sounds, vowel sounds like da, la, boo, mi etc. babies
speak one or two words by their first birthday. Infants also learn a lot through
gestures. They pay close attention to human voices and tend to catch them quickly.
They will always look for care and attention, especial from their mother. Their sounds
like ma ma will turn into mamma once they are in line with their vocal production.

To prove that babbling is the first and foremost of speech, deaf infants and hearing
infants were compared and studied under different conditions. Hearing infants
were studied at three stages of age. Two procanonical (5 and 6 months) and one
fully canonical (11 14 months). The age for canonical babbling was 11 14 months
for the hearing impaired infants and their ratio of canonical babbling was to be
determined. From the study, one of the hearing impaired infant was most verbal of
all the others. Onset of repetitive production of well formed syllables canonical
syllables in monosyllabic and in reduplicated sequences like ma ma ma or ba ba ba
ba. Canonical syllables were identified by phonetically trained listeners having the
following properties. (1). One fully resonate nucleus i.e., vowel of identifiable quality,
high nasalized vowels being excluded by the resonance requirement. (2). One no
glottal margin (3). Duration of syllable and formant transitions that fit within the
range of mature syllable production. (4). Normal phonation and pitch range.
Canonical babbling can be identified based on a tape recorded sample of spontaneous
utterances. In laboratory environments, a 50 utterance minimum is sought and
vegetative or presumed involuntary utterances. Precanonical and conical utterances
are counted. A single utterance is defined as a breath group and is for about 1
second. For tape

Two Major Themes In Poetic Realism
Isolation and fatalism are two major themes in this film. the main characters are
trapped and they try hard to escape the current situations. The army deserter
heading for the port of Le Havre, Jean is on the run from a society run by a
criminal underworld. His solitary figure associates with the fog in the opening
shot of the film. What he faces was fatal since he had no choices. He could only
run away; otherwise, his life would be in danger. A 17 year old abused girl, Nelly
who is trapped by her godfather, Zabel tries to run away from him. In the beginning
of the film, Jean and Nelly are used to be isolated by the society. Both are not
connected with other people. It is not surprising that they want to escape from the
current traps later... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zabel is a respectable businessman who loves religious music and the finer.
However, there is a shameful and jealous heart hides in his body that he lusts for
his goddaughter Nelly. This is a rather immoral theme shown in Quai des brumes.
Moreover, Poetic Realism films focus on working class characters and the theme
of doomed love, which is the blending of comedy and tragedy. Compared to
Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious
character.(Linda Nochlin, Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism
are usually marginal characters in the society. Jean undoubtedly represents the
marginal characters in the society. He carries a national identity, which is the army
in 1930s and represents the lower class in the society. When he meets the beautiful
girl, Nelly, these two fall in love immediately and passionately.Nelly says. They
have real happiness and the love is shared, but in this film s bleak world it is
inevitably going to be dearly bought. Therefore, their love is romantic but at the
same time, it is also a tragic. The only way Jean can be with Nelly is if he deals with
the corrupt men that are causing troubles for her. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a
tragic end for the
Brain Psychology
If babies bodies grew at the same rapid pace as their brains, they would weigh 170
pounds by one month of age. Once the baby is born learning starts immediately.
Humans learn so many different life skills between birth to eight years old, for
instance their name, counting, reading, writing, sitting, walking, running, talking,
using the bathroom, the alphabet and different colors and shapes. Adults do almost
all these abilities without even noticing their doing them. It may not seem very hard
to learn the normal abilities but if the abilities weren t taught at a young age when the
brainabsorbs everything it sees and learns people wouldn t be able to function.

Blade Runner Film Analysis
Blade Runner: Film Analysis and Critics Review
Blade Runner (1982), directed by Ridley Scott, combines the element, film noir
and science fiction, thus creating a outstanding visual aesthetic that has been
embraced by most critics. Based on Philip K. Dick s novel, Do Androids Dream of
Electric Sheep? (1968), many critics embraced this sci fi film, although it leaves out
a majority of the novel s plot and themes while scenes are modified significantly.
The plot follows police officer Rick Deckard, known on the street as a blade runner,
as he tracks four renegade androids that are genetically engineered replicants that are
almost impossible to distinguish from humans. This leads Deckard to the Tyrell
Corporation, the firm that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time s Richard Corliss praised the film s visuals by stating: Blade Runner, like its
setting, is a beautiful, deadly organism that devours life; and [Harrison] Ford, the
cockily engaging Star Warrior of Raiders of the Lost Ark, allows his heroic stature
to shrivel inside it. In comparison, [Rutger] Hauer s silver haired superman is more
human than human, and finally more complex than Ford s victimized flatfoot.
Because of this imbalance of star roles, and because this drastically recut movie
has a plot that proceeds by fits and stops, Blade Runner is likely to disappoint
moviegoers hoping for sleek thrills and derring do. (68). This is the most beautiful
critique of the film from a critic as he analyzes the film with the insight of a scholar.
Although film critics are the most articles that are considered upon a movie s
release, scholarly articles are more accurate as it relates to interpreting depth and
capturing the film s meaning. Varun Begly states in his article: The film as a whole
exhibits something of the parody without irony quality of the postmodernist pastiche.
The somewhat grotesque assemblage of characters drawn from widely different
genres the film noir anti hero and femme fatale, the 1970 s camp fashion of the
replicants, the bigoted police captain, his inscrutable Oriental deputy, the nearsighted
mad scientist a ll are played with a perverse solemn, naturalistic

Belonging Romulus, My Father and the Kite Runner Essay
Year 12 Assessment Task 2: Area of Study Belonging
We all strive to belong
To what extent is this statement true with regard to your SET text and at least ONE
related text of your own choosing?
One s understanding of belonging can broaden their understanding and acceptance of
themselves and the world around them. The statement that we all strive to belong is
true, however it may take time to belong to a certain person, place, group,
community or even the larger world. This issue is explored in Raimond Gaita s
biographical memoir Romulus, My Father and Khaled Hosseini s confronting novel
The Kite Runner. Throughout these texts, the themes of personal relationships,

Therefore, Gaita demonstrates how his cultural upbringing in Australia has enriched
his relationship with his father, allowing him to connect to the Australian landscape,
just like Romulus does with the European landscape.
Similarly in The Kite Runner, Amir struggles to find a connection with his father,
Baba. According to Amir, their bond was a fundamental basis of their lives,
however when describing Baba, he claims he is a force of nature, using a
metaphor to not only place Baba as a superior character, but leaving room for
sympathy for Amir as he, like Raimond, feels a distant sense of connection to the
world of his father. Another prime example of Amir feeling no connection to the
world of his father is the soccer games that he, whilst full of regret, participated in,
just to try and feel that sense of belonging he was hoping for. Amir would pretend to
enjoy soccer even though he was hopeless and his scraggy legs couldn t keep up with
the sport. Amir s condescending tone expresses his embarrassment and hate for the
sport but the will to persevere to make his father happy, therefore demonstrating how
Amir strives to belong. Amir s personal relationship with his father was obviously
dishonest which contradicts with his father s
Changes In The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
In the Middle East, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has been one of the most
controversial conflicts in modern history, dating back to when the region was
dominated by British rule. Beginning long before the formation of the state of
Israel in 1948, Israel and Palestine have clashed over who can claim the holy land.
The Israelis believe that they should solely have possession of the holy land, being a
gift from God to Abraham to Isaac, according to the Bible. Contradicting the Israelis,
the Palestinians believe the holy land was given to Ishmael from Abraham, who is an
ancestor to the Muslim people. From 1914 to modern times, Israelhas underwent
positive changes between the Israelis and Palestinians through the formation of

As the Nazis began killing Jews by the mass in Europe, Jews starting fleeing to
Palestine in large numbers. Jewish armed groups began emerging in Palestine,
fighting British authorities in pursuit of an independent Israeli state. The fighting
in Palestine led to the United Nations dividing Palestine into Jewish and Arab
states in 1947. In less than a year, the British mandate ended and Israel declared
independence. Beginning in 1948, the first Arab Israeli war occurred and Israel
gained more land than expected, including western Jerusalem. This war resulted in
about two thirds of the 1.2 million Arabs living in Palestine to flee the country. One
major change occurring in Israel in 1956 was the reopening of the Suez Canal.
Israel, along with Britain and France, invaded Europe in the Suez Crisis, opening
back up shipping into Israel. In 1957, Israel with the help of France, began the
construction of a large nuclear reactor, which became the basis of the country s
unconfirmed nuclear weapons program. In 1962, Israel began relations with
President John F. Kennedy and the United States, who sold missiles to Israel. As the
independent state of Israel began gaining power, they launched an attack on Egypt
because the Straits of Tiran were closed, ending shipping from
Recycling And Recycling Of Papers
First, when paper isn t recycled, 80% of it is placed in landfills. Decomposition of
the paper in landfills produces methane, a greenhouse gas with twenty one times
the power of carbon dioxide. U.S. EPA has identified landfills as the largest
beginning of methane emanation in the U.S., and the refraction of paper is the
largest contributor to the methane being generated. If paper is recycled, it doesn t
end up in the waste stream, headed for a landfill where it will degrade and generate
methane. Simply out, the less paper landfilled, the less methane emitted. The more
way to recycle all materials, the less it goes into places where trash is being dumped.
Second, recyclingalso improves air quality by reducing the need for power. By
collecting, processing and shipping recycled stuff to industrial users requires less
energy than mining, refining, processing and shipping natural resources according to
Pennsylvania s Department of Environmental Protection. That s a good sight because
the more power the United States uses, the more fossil fuels it burns. The higher the
fossil fuel use, the more pollutant diligence pumps into the atmosphere.
Manufacturing updated news report out of recycled paper requires less energy than
making paper out of wood. Production of 100% recycled poster board uses 50
percent less energy compared to virgin grades of paperboard, thus significantly
reducing the greenhouse released into the atmosphere. Third, paper recycling leaves
more trees standing

Theories Of Experiential Learning Theory
Meanwhile, the Theory of Experiential Learning Cycle by David Kolb (Kolb, 1984)
is also relevant to this study. Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) defines learning as
the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience .
Knowledge is a product from the combination of both grasping and transforming
experience. According to him the Experiential LearningTheory model portrays two
dialectically related modes of grasping experience; Concrete Experience and Abstract
Conceptualization, and two dialectically relevant modes of transforming experience;
Reflective Observation and Active Experimentation. Experiential learningis a process
of formulating knowledgethat involves a creative tension between the four learning
modes that is responsive to contextual demands. This process is portrayed as an ideal
learning cycle or spiral where the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These modes are only responsive to certain contexts. Thus, the learning process is
portrayed as a learning cycle where the learner assumes each of the four domains;
experiencing, reflecting, thinking, and acting (Kolb Kolb, 2005). The recursive
process is responsive to each other; the learner, learning experience, and on the
content learned. Immediate or concrete experiences are the impetus for observations
and reflections. Without these learning would be impossible even at the very
beginning. Later on, reflections then can be assimilated in the old experience and
deduced it into abstract concepts from which new implications for action are drawn.
These new implications are then used for active experimentation, which leads to
new concrete experiences (Kolb Kolb, 2005). With the production of new concrete
experiences it already leads us into a complete cycle of learning under David Kolb s

political opinion. Had this information been known to petitioner at the time of Gecas
s immigration, he would have been disqualified from entering the United States. In
furtherance of its investigation into Gecas s wartime activities, the petitioner, through
its Office of Special Investigations ( OSI ), issued an administrative subpoena
commanding Gecas to give testimony and to produce documents relating both to his
immigration to the United States, and to his activities in Europe between 1940 and
1945. Gecas does not challenge the validity of the administrative subpoena. Nor does
he argue that OSI is without the power to issue such subpoenas. Finally, it is
undisputed that, although he faces the possibility of deportation, Gecas faces no
threat of criminal prosecution in the United States. His only complaint is that his
answers to the investigator s questions, along with the production of the requested
documents, would expose him to possible criminal prosecution in a foreign country.

Amazing Grace Essay
Using the themes we have examined in this course discuss the situation of the
children in Jonathan Kozol s Amazing Grace. Who defines them as other ? How?
What makes them feel like nobodies ? What makes them feel like somebodies ?
What is the role of religion in this daily struggle for human dignity?
Drugs, violence, prostitution, pollution, infestation, and sickness of all kinds are
present in South Bronx, New York. Unfortunately, children are surrounded and
involved in all these problems and more. In Jonathan Kozol s novel Amazing Grace,
an evil reality full of racial segregation and alienation affect the people living in the
ghetto. The personalities of these children are changed forever due to the existence of

Furthermore, the children feel like they are nobodies because of their segregation
from the rest of society. It s skin colour and it s being poor. This is something more
than disrespect. It s as if they wish you did not exist so they would not have to be
bothered. (Kozol, 41) Strong feelings of rejection make these children believe they
are segregated nobodies. The segregation and hatred changes the personalities of the
children. In order for the children to remain rational while growing up, they look to
their faith.
Most children have witnessed so much injustices that they can only turn to religion
as a source of comfort and strength to live on. Even racial segregation is present in
the churches where people pray for better times. The children pray for the safety of
their loved ones and hope that they will live in heaven after death. They believe that
God is out there to hear their prayers. God hears. He sit up high and look low, even
here. (Kozol, 203) This statement reveals that even though the rest of society may
not hear the desperate cries of the people living in the Bronx, but God does. Therefore
the people still have hope and struggle to survive. Adolescents think about heaven
because death occurs frequently in the Bronx. Everyday the children pray for their
protection and well being. God bless Mommy. God bless Nanny. God, don t
Hasbr Hasbro Essay
While the current differentiation business level strategy of Hasbro has enabled the
company to maintain its strong brand and grow its revenues amidst general revenue
decline in the industry, a better strategy would enable the company to remain
profitable despite the slow growth of the industry. Hence, the company should focus
on competitive positioning decisions as a differentiator. For instance, instead of
relying on large retailers and other distributors to sell its products, Hasbro should
establish its own stores in the three market segments as well as franchises in
emerging markets. This will enable the company to directly deal with customers and
offer comprehensive customerservice and product repair. In addition, the company
should continue with its constant innovation and creation of new products as well as
reinvention of existing products while considering other entertainment platforms like
television programs and digital media.

Currently, Hasbro relies on third party suppliers as well as distributors to produce and
sell its toy and game products. Consequently, the company should set its own
manufacturing plants overseas to increase the company s control and leverage in
sourcing raw materials and production (Hill and Gareth 301). Also, apart from
establishing its own retail stores, Hasbro should fully venture into television
programming and motion pictures as well as digital gaming to reach more customers
and remain profitable in a market that has experienced declining growth and
competition from digital alternatives. The company should also continue with the
licensing strategy as it enables the company to constantly develop the latest
Technical Limitations Of The Zeitgeist
Zeitgeist Zeitgeist is a German word that was first used in 1848. The literal
translation thereof is the spirit of the time. The Zeitgeist is the essence of an era,
and is more than simply slapping a few neon colours onto a design and saying that
it captures the Zeitgeist of the 1980s. Zeitgeist consists of the emotions, attitudes
and morals that are at the heart of every person in a time period. It is the main
thought processes and beliefs that create and direct the actions and styles of an
era. Zeitgeist can be represented in the literature, philosophy and the designs of
that time. Zeitgeist can be crucial to designers as it can allow them to connect
directly with the emotions and values of their customers if they completely
understand the Zeitgeist of the modern era. This understanding also gives
designers the opportunity to step away from the Zeitgeist and leave a big
impression on the consumer market. Zeitgeist is the product of the circumstances
and technical limitations of an era, as these can drastically influence the general
outlook of the people within a time period. For example, as explained by the
Merriam Webster online dictionary, the Zeitgeist of Victorian England was the
belief in pure industrial progress, while the Zeitgeist of 1980s United States was
the belief in money and one s ability to spend it. Alexander McQueen was a fashion
designer born in London in 1960. Once he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1992,
he founded his own, self titled music
How I Could Evaluate My Own Experience
1 Introduction
The objective of this reflection summary is to expose critically how I could evaluate
my own experience in relation to the theories and idea about Leadership. As such as
how this lectures and insights change my person notion about Leadership and how I
could amplify my knowledge about this subject. Also the most important in this
reflection is to present the importance of Leadership in my future experience.
I have chosen four topics I though was more relevant to develop my person
reflections connecting with my experience and to why comprehend these topics will
be essential to my career:
Followership and Psychoanalytic Perspectives
Charismatic and Transformational Leadership
Leadership and Gender
Toxic Leadership and Power
In my opinion, to suit my thought, reflections and connect the theories with my
personal experience, I considered Gender and Leadership as topic and associated
Power to Toxic Leadership, because as per my point of view, analysing the types
of leader I have observed during my previous work and life experience, I believe
there is an interface between both, where Power is a component, not exclusively, of
a Toxic Leadership. Senior executives have the power to create an environment that
allows people to grow and give their best or a toxic workplace where everyone is
unhappy. (Vries, Manfred F.R.Kets de, 2014; p.1)
What is Leadership
Summarising the idea of Leadership I have research, in my opinion is the capacity to

1)How many records does the file contain? How many fields are there per record?
There are 7 records (21 5Z through 31 7P) and each record contains 5 fields
(PROJECT_CODE through PROJECT_BID_PRICE). 2)What problem would you
encounter if you wanted to produce a listing by city? How could you solve this
problem by altering the file structure? There is not a field for city, only manager s
address. In order to get a listing by city, you would have to break up the address
into address, city, state, zip, file format. You can do an internal string search, but it
is difficult to write and takes longer to execute. 3)If you wanted to produce a listing

Growing Up In Peter Pan By J. M Barrie
Growing Up
Parents can only give good advice, but the final forming of a person s character
lies in their own hands. Anne Frank. In the book Peter Pan, by J.M Barrie, the
character Wendy Darling grows up. Her time on the island Neverland shows her that
she can stay young forever, but three forces shape her life changing decision. Both
her family and realization help her choose what she wanted to do. Because of age,
she grows up, which is another force that changed Wendy and her character. In the
book, Peter Pan, age, family, and realization both changed and impacted the character
Wendy Darling.
One major force that majorly changed Wendy was age. As the story advances, she
grows older, as all children do. At the beginning, she is a young girl and very
innocent and pure. It is evident that Wendy truly ... Show more content on

away from home. But slowly, she started to see something in her brothers. What
did disturb her at times was that John remembered his parents vaguely only, while
Michael was quite willing to believe that she was really his mother. (72; ch 7). The
story goes on to explain how Wendy was a little scared by this, but she makes tests
to refresh her brother s memory. Later, Wendy is telling a story to her children
about coming home to their mother and everything is is happy and good. But
Peter Pan is in the room listening and he tells his side of the story. Long ago, he

me; so I stayed away for moons and moons, and then flew back; but the window
was barred, for mother had forgotten all about me, and there was another little boy
sleeping in my bed. (106; ch 11). At that moment Wendy felt that their mother would
forget them if they stayed as long as Peter had. This changed her because she
realized that she needed to go home to her family and grow
Sculpture Review of Spartacus Breaking His Chains Essay
Sculpture Review of Spartacus Breaking His Chains
This nineteen century sixteen inch sculpture was created by Denis Foyatier. The
sculpture is of Spartacus, a man who served as a leader in a revolt against slavery.
This statue was composed of bronze and could be distinguished by its fine polish and
style. This bronze statue stood in a mobile upright position, the left foot extended
forward, the arms crossed around the lower chest region. Foyatier succeeded in
producing a vivid and convincing figure by using the techniques of shape, texture
and details. His techniques suggest and appeal to a sense of intense power and vigor.
The brooding stance and overall shape of Spartacus gives the sculpture ... Show more

The tenseness of his muscles is a clear suggestion that Spartacus was about to or
already performed some sort of movement. There is also a dominant s like shape runs
through the body beginning from above the knees and continues until the neck, this s
like curvature provides the figure with a sense of autonomous life.
The rough contrasting texture Foyatier uses makes Spartacus much more realistic
and proves to be very effective. His use of highly stylized polish contrasts the
shades of the arms and legs. He uses a lighter shade of polish around Spartacus s
muscles; these highly polished areas provide sheen and highlight strength and
power. The use of different shades of polish is imperative to the sculpture because it
allows his spectators to focus on the more central parts of Spartacus. The uneven
curly texture in the hair also plays an important role; it adds a more realistic image to
Spartacus s identity. The use of the different textures generates liveliness and
animates a sense of energy compressed within Spartacus s quiet pose.
Foyatier uses careful detail in his presentation. His details of Spartacus s face are
very effective as it creates a mood and sets an ideal atmosphere for the sculpture.
One can detect Spartacus s raging mood by the intense glare of his eyes, the
No Country For Old Men By Cormac Mccarthy
The world has suffered a terrible calamity. Exactly what is never explicitly
explained, but it is implied that apparently two countries with nuclear weapons
finally decided to try them out and see what happened. The world is cold. The sun
is blotted out from the sky. The plants are dying. The sky is gray and the surface of
the Earth is covered by a constantly shifting gray ash. Within this world walks two
human beings and they are a manand his son. This is very basic plotline of Cormac
McCarthys book The Road. McCarthy has garnered a lot of attention lately. His
book No Country for Old Men was turned into a powerful and moving film that
won a lot of shiny statues at last year s Academy Awards. He is known for his very
bleak view of the world, and for describing horrors and atrocities with a frankness
and bluntness that often leaves readers stunned. His novel Blood Meridian is so
relentlessly violent that many have had to put the book down just to give their
minds a rest from the carnage. However, both Blood Meridican and The Road are
being turned into Hollywood productions even now as I write this. McCarthy writes
in short, direct sentences. He never used quotation marks and sometimes the words
spoken by characters are not even separated from paragraphs that just describe the
action. Reading his work is an active exercise and one that you have to brace
yourself for. The most idyllic scene can suddenly turn horrific as the young man and
his son turn one corner
African American Influence On Cuban Culture
Before the popularization of Son, Cuban music and dance was largely influenced by
Europe. Compositions in the early period closely resemble songs from middle class
Europe. These genres include: the creole, canciГіn and danzГіn (Moore 17). While
these genres were seen as the model of Cuban expression at the turn of the century,
the Afrocuban musicknown as Son would soon become (and remain) the paragon of
Cuban artistic and cultural expression; the previous genres paled in comparison in
terms of popularity. Fusing African, Indigenous and European elements, Son
exemplified the transculturation that so many of the elites in Cubawere promoting as

There are two main reasons for this persistence: the brutish and inhumane practices
from Spanish and Portuguese slave traders, and the spiritual concept of ori
practiced by the Yoruba. Before the abolition of slavery in 1886, the Spanish and
Portuguese s philosophy was to work their slaves to death for four to five years,
before bringing in a new hoard of bodies. Unlike the United States, there was little
effort to integrate slaves into the culture. Because no assimilation took place, African
culture was never replaced or lost in Cuba. Beyond this, the Yoruba people from
Africa carried with them the tradition of Ori. This concept referred one s culture
residing in the head or consciousness, and therefore unable to be taken away. This
persistence of African elements led to the spread of Son throughout Cuban
Analysis Of The Article We The People
Dr. Nieva
International Business
4 December 2014
The statement We the People defines whom the United States of America was and is
till this day. The constitution is considered one of the most powerful and dynamic
documents of all time. Ten years after gaining independence from Great Britain, the
delegates of America decided that the Articles of Confederation, the governing
document in place, must be amended or replaced if the country were to prosper.
Under the Articles of Confederation, America failed to become one nation, as the
country faced financial issues, stemming from a weak centralized government. The
weak centralized government was unable to enforce laws, and collect taxes from the
states as congress simply had very little power. In order to correct these problems
fifty five delegates from twelve states, Rhode Island being the only state without a
representative, meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to address this problem. The
delegates decided it was better to create a new document then try to ratify the old,
hence the birth of the United States Constitution. At the time of the constitution the
statement We the People applied to a completely different notion of people then it
does in the present day. Originally we the people only applied to white, landholding
males, who had a significant amount of power in society. Over time more and more
ethnic groups and classes of people have fallen under We the People , strengthening
the Constitution of the
Analysis Of FIFA 18
Last year, FIFA 17 was the best selling game on the PlayStation 4 with over 10
million units sold worldwide. Not only did it perform exceptionally well on the
PlayStation, across all platforms, only Pokemon Sun/Moon on the 3DS sold more
copies.
Without doubt, the FIFA franchise is huge and while EA Sportsknow that they re
likely to top the sales charts each year, I m happy to report that with FIFA 18, they
are not resting on their laurels. Thanks to subtle improvements to the gameplay, as
well as new features in the Career Mode , this year s FIFA is EA s most complete
entry in the series to date.

This attention to detail also stretches to certain players. While it would be
impossible to uniquely program thousands of footballers individually, the bigger
name, as well as some lesser known players, have their own unique style of play.
Of course, Ronaldo and Messi play like their real life counterparts but it s refreshing
to see someone like Matt Ritchie behave in a similar fashion to real life.
Although not a bad thing, the differences between FIFA s 17 and 18 regarding AI
behaviour adapting during a match is less noticeable. Games are slow and play out
similarly to FIFA 17, with an emphasis on possession being the key to unlock
defences. However, one welcome change I found is how teams react to falling a goal
or two behind.
One gripe I have of FIFA games is how the AI responds to conceding early on.
Teams tend to go kamikaze, prematurely piling men forward leaving gaps in
defence. This behaviour is common at the latter stages of a real match but not early
on. With FIFA 18, teams do seem less partial to keep throwing men forward
nonsensically when falling behind, now only doing so when time is running out or
the possibility of a comeback is likely.
The quick substitution feature is a welcome addition. Quite simply, as a match nears
its conclusion, pressing the R2 button brings up a small box where you can substitute
a tiring player with a positional like for like replacement instead of pausing
Effects Of Mung Bean Starch On Rice Noodles Quality
Criticizing Effects of Mung Bean Starch on Rice Noodles Quality
In Effect of mung bean starch on quality of rice noodles made by direct dry flour
extrusion Wu, Meng, Yang et al. (2015) focus on developing a better understanding
of the influences of mung bean starch (MS) on the physiochemical properties of rice
flour (RF) and quality of rice noodles produced by the direct dry flour extrusion; as
well as test possible corporation of rice flour (RF) and MS fractions into rice
noodles to improve its quality. First of all, Wu et al. analyzed the substituted rice
flour samples. The rice flour samples were prepared in four difference MS
substitutions, 0%, 2%, 5% and 8% for experimentations. With increase MS content in
the mixture, the results showed increase in amylose content, rate of retrogradation,
pasting stability, and strength of the gel, but decline in swelling power and solubility.
The authors pointed out corporation of MS and RF significantly influenced the
physicochemical properties of rice noodle mixture, which desirable for rice noodle
making. This phenomenon results rice noodles were positively affected by these
changes as well, including decreased cooking time, loss rate and broken rate. Also,
based on the texture properties and sensory evaluation, elevating MS content
contributed to better texture and overall acceptance of rice noodles, but authors also
point out, after 5% MS substitution, the rate of quality improvements were decreased.

Blockbuster Video s Lost Competitive Advantage Analysis In its prime, Blockbuster
Video held a considerable advantage in the video rental industry. The company s
large presence within the industry allowed for the company to build a competitive
advantage through its ability to reach a much larger consumer base through multiple
channels as well as hold the majority of shares within the market (Harress, 2013).
Unfortunately, the company was not able to sustain this advantage long term for a
multitude of reasons. Blockbuster s fall from grace was not a sudden occurrence.

Blockbuster began a rental by mail and streaming service belatedly. The company,
however, failed to use the late start into the new industry environment to create a

failure would be the first in many of Blockbuster s missed attempts. Blockbuster

This report is concerned with the effects of teacher professionalization on elementary
and secondary teachers in the United States(Clabaugh and Rozycki, 1986). There is a
general perception that there is a marked change in the context of education in
general and teacher education in particular. In a world that increasingly values
specialization, teachers were found to be lacking in expertise in their respective fields
of specialization. It is also recognized that there is a shift in educational emphasis
from what to learn to how to learn brought about by an accelerating pace in the
production of knowledge triggered by the intensifying and pervading scientific and
technological revolution. But studies show that teachers do not have the appropriate
learning tools such as communication, problem solving, and thinking skills to
respond to such trends(Yeban,2002). Yeban (2002) continued that new imperatives
are forcing teacher education institutions to re visit and re think their assumptions,
theories, and practices about the kind of teachers that must be produced. The current
curriculum where the respondents of the study belong is deemed insufficient to
address these concerns. Issues such as the growing gap between theory and practice,
failure to make teachers
The Joy Luck Club Identity
The process of identity formation embodied in the characters of Amy Tan s The Joy
Luck Club illustrates the key concepts found within postcolonialism.
Subaltern designates the lower or colonized classes placed deeply in the shadows
outside of the hegemonic power structure of the ruling class as they have little
access to their own voice. Likewise, in The Joy Luck Club, the Chinese mothers
who are at the boundaries of society, are dependent upon western intellectuals to
speak for them as they do not adopt the dominant point of view or vocabulary as
expressive with their own identity. In particular, Lindo Jong states It s hard to keep

To illustrate, all mothers in The Joy Luck Club were born and raised in China. They
were instructed to follow the Chinese path and expectations of their parents, rooting
the culture deeply in their mind. Although the mothers were capable of holding their
traditional values, as they became American citizens, they ve interacted and mixed
with the American culture, causing new forms of identity and experience. For
instance, at the end of the novel, Lindo Jong is competent to use her two faces,
Chinese and American, to accommodate her potential to convey a thought or feeling
in words in multiple situations. Her display of the two faces blur the borderline of
having one cultural identity over the other, allowing her to move between worlds. As
a matter of fact, the daughters deal with hybrid identity as their mothers still preserve,
practice, and teach them Chinese culture at home, regardless of living in an American
society. Despite this, their way of thinking is influenced by American culture as they
receive American education, form relationships with American people, and are
introduced to American media. This failure in full assimilation into American culture,
allowed them to inhabit a double consciousness that is Chinese in its particulars but
universally American. For example, Waverly Jong, a model of success, possesses
greater critical thinking when playing chess using Chinese and American strategies.
In conclusion, this hybrid characteristic is built in the story as both the first and
second generation have discovered how to acknowledge and appreciate both their
oriental origin and their existence in a white dominant

Community Essay
Community
The point that community has an important effect on the shaping of a person s
character is key in both Pythia Peay s essay, Soul Searching and Winona LaDuke s
interview transcribed in essay form entitled, Reclaiming Culture and the Land:
Motherhood and the Politics of Sustaining Community . The two authors present ideas
, similar and different, of what it means to live in and be a part of community.
Through examining these two essays, summarizing and synthesizing, we can gain a
better understanding of what community is and how it affects those within it.

She goes on to talk of other aspects of her community such as politics and women s
roles but stays on the point that her community has a very important part in shaping
her character and the character of those around her. Then she goes on to point out that
the separation of political and cultural and spiritual is an artificial separation that s
articulated by industrial society (10). LaDuke was raised with a different sense of
values than most Americans and goes on to describe her upbringing. She notes that
she was raised with little appreciation for American culture and that consumerism, in
part, is responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference
between the average American community and the way she lives in her Native
community at White Earth. She points out the down side to the American
community, such as consumerism and deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of
the values that her Native community has installed upon her and her children, like
respect and community, which is really her main idea.
Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she
concentrates on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as
the city in which one lives. LaDuke is more concerned with community as a person
s ideals or way of life. Both authors imply that a person s sense of place provokes a
Chihiro s Response To Sociology
Perhaps the most obvious example of change as a positive influence in the film
can be observed in Chihiro s maturation. Prior to entering the spirit realm, Chihiro
behaves as a typical, stubborn child unwilling to accept change; this can be
observed in the way she responds to seeing her new school as she and her parents
drive into town: sticking out her tongue as she says, It s gonna stink. I liked my
old school. During the same scene, Chihiro s responses to her parents even slightly
suggest that she is a bit spoiled as she complains how depressing it is that this is the
first time she has gotten a bouquet of flowers and it s a goodbye present. When her
mother reminds her that her father had gotten a rose for her birthday before, Chihiro
The Federalists And Anti-Federalist Analysis
The factions will be numerous in large republics, but they will be weaker than in
small, direct democracies are easier for factions to consolidate their strength. In
United States, faction s leaders may be able to influence state governments to support
insubstantial economic and political policies as the states, far from being abolished,
retain much of their sovereignty. If the framers had abolished the state governments,
the opponents of the proposed governmentwould have a legitimate objection. People
think that a strong president is incompatible with a republican form of government,
however, the strong president best protects liberty when anarchy, faction, and the
excessive ambitions of others threaten it. Madison could not possibly have imagined
the many avenues available to factions for exercising influence in contemporary
bureaucratic politics. Hamilton s analysis of the presidency in the Federalist Papers
argues that as head of the executive branch, the president is provided by the
Constitution with sufficient powers to control, coordinate, and energize federal
administration. The Federalists and Anti Federalists alike feared executive power,

The Importance of Personal Responsibility
The Importance of Personal Responsibility
GEN/200
As an adult you are responsible for every action that you take, but before that action
are a series of thoughts that lead you to taking that action. Your personal
responsibility starts at a young age, you are either taught personal responsibility as
you grow into an adult by being held accountable of your own actions or the
responsibility is taken from you. Depending on how you were brought up your
transition into becoming an adult can either be an easy one or a difficult one where
everyone is to blame but yourself. As an adult the one thing that you know is a
constant is that you will be held accountable for your actions whether you like it or
not.

The Pros And Cons Of Bitcoin
Problem Statement
Exchange rates are the important tools in the global economy. The exchange rate
activity will affect the price of every country s imports and exports, as well as the
value of every overseas investment. A weak currency makes exports cheaper to
foreigners, which can lead to higher exports and job creation in the export sector.
Consumers use exchange rates to calculate the cost of goods produced in other
countries. How much a currency is worth in relation to another currency is
determined by the supply and demand for currencies in the foreign exchange market.
Following the global financial crisis of 2008 2009, tensions among countries over
exchange rate policies arguably broadened. Some policymakers and analysts have

Suggestion for Further Research
One of the main limitations within this study was time. This meant that the sample
size and number of participants is relatively small. This meant that there was limited
time to conduct interview, gather observations and request follow up interviews to

phase. Therefore, with more time, the coverage of study can be more wider and the
scope of the study can be more comprehensive. Additional and next study can be in

Should Animal Testing Be Used Only For Medical Research
Should animal testing be used only for medical purposes in New Zealand?
By Jihad Mohd Erfino
Introduction:
Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the
world. It questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and
even for medical research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world
(including New Zealand) today, many question whether it should go on. Animal
testing is generally the use of animals for different purposes in lab conditions.
Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since
the 2nd century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing
Wikipedia). He was the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The
first animal testing experiments was to find out how our bodies work. For
example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals was discovered in the 12th
century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in the 17th
century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human
medical advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio
which has almost been eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better
understanding of our bodily mechanisms, function and several diseases. Some
diseases that cannot be cured yet can be treated better due to animal testing
discoveries.

Reproductive Behavior Analysis
Discussion: Our results show that there was not a significant difference between the
different tank densities and the number of antennal groomings within them. (P=0.31).
There was also no indication of a statistically significant difference between the tanks
when pheromones were not present and when pheromones were present (see fig.1).
One aspect of our results was close to having a significant difference. There was no
difference among the frequency of male antennal grooming between the three
different B. dubia densities with pheromones, but the data was close to being
statistically significant (p= 0.051), and we think that with more refined methods, and
a better understanding of B. dubia social interactions that future data may be
statistically significant. We thought that antennal activity would be the most
important aspect of cockroach behavior when it came to the spread of disease and
social interactions, but our data did not support our hypothesis. We made many
observations, that we did not quantify, that demonstrated much more active behavior
in the presence of pheromones. These behaviors, including males approaching the
cotton ball with the female pheromones and the males sparring with each other, were
much more common in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Small But Powerful Ad Analysis
Advertisements have transformed alongside the technology revolution by using
computer graphics (CGI) to draw in the consumer. Tide s Small but Powerful
commercial uses CGI to create hyperbole as a humorous addition to some facts
about the product in order to gain the attention of its viewers. Celebrities can be used
in a similar way to make a connection with the audienceby showing a familiar and
popular face. While the use of celebrities and hyperbole draw in the consumer and
make this commercial more memorable, they also provide a platform to that
connects the audience to the product, Pods. In this advertisement, Tide uses
Simone Biles, a well known Olympic gymnast, as an advocate of the product, Pods.
With the backdrop of a female narrator, Simone makes lockers fall, the ground shake
and performs other physics defying acts with the help of CGI, all to prove the point
that small things can be powerful too. The creators use the 4 8 Olympian as an

In a journal by Mark A. Callister and Lesa A. Stern, they say that in recent years,
depicting people, products, and objects in ways that far exceed their capability is a
common strategy used to gain attention, inject humor, and emphasize product
attributes. The commercial producers are trying to use this technique to show that
even though the pods are only a fraction of the size of normal detergent, it gets the
job done even better than the alternative. The commercial is metaphorically
comparing Simone s small stature to the modest size of each pod. Exaggerating
Simone s physical skills, in turn creates the thought in each viewer s mind that this
good will similarly outperform its capabilities on their clothes. Mark and Lesa s study
suggests that these kind of hyperbolic commercials are more powerful than ones that

new additions to our family. Along with the births of our nephews nieces came

were setting up our business, we discovered that opening a Salon Spa was not going
to be easy. We needed to raise capital and I came up with the idea to sell baskets with

to bear our name. I did a extensive search on the internet and found several
companies that did private labeling. We ended up having a full line of bath body
products and at the time I was very happy with the private labelcompany that we were

I never thought that I would be interested in this sort of thing. I was interested in

Although, at this time the handmade bath body industry was not new. There were
only a small number of people making products. At that time handmade product
makers did not like to share their list of suppliers, and it was by accident that I

Examples Of Rationale From John To Lenina
Rationale
A Brave New World sets 500 years in the future, in a whole new society in which
technology has taken away feelings. Concepts as parenthood, love and liberty no
longer exists, and people take soma, a drug, to maintain the society order.
This letter is from John to Lenina, where he explains the reasons of his suicide and
asks her to wake up and see the world in a different and more human way. It is
written with a nostalgic informal tone and it is directed to an all ages audience,
especially school students.
I used first person informal language with a nostalgic, almost desperate tone, in
which I wanted to show John s inside struggles applying phrases like Am I sinning

Romeo, Othello, Hamlet... They made the same decision. This is the only way out,
Lenina, and it hurts me so much the fact that I cannot show you the way I see the
world. It hurts me not to be able to get you out of this place, where you live locked
up in a golden cage without knowing it.
I wish I could introduce you to God, Shakespeare and pain. I would like you to
know the concept of chastity, motherhood and love. I would like, Lenina, for you to
see me the way I saw you when I met you.
You should know that I always think about you, Lenina; In every way, right and
wrong. And it s wrong, and it s fine, and I m going crazy. I always pray for you,
Lenina. To Jesus, to Pookong, to all the gods I know and whom I do not know.
I wish I could have been your Romeo. I wish you would have been my Juliet. I wish
things had been different... Am I sinning for wanting more than I deserve?
Honestly, Lenina... I do not know how you re going to take this. I do not know if
this is going to change anything in you, or if you re just going to throw it away, like
you do with everything else. But,
Lenina, Love. Cry, laugh. Feel. Pain is a part of life. Live.

American Civil War and Sectionalism
1.Approximately 180,000 Negros served in the Union during the Civil War. The
Negro Soldier was overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort
Wagner, South Carolina. The 54th Massachusetts Colored troops led the assault
and scaled the fort s parapet and were only driven back after brutal hand to hand
fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the Union Army in areas such as
pay. It wasn t until June 15th, 1864 that the Congress granted equal pay to Negro
troops. Several Negro soldiers earned the Medal of Honor. The North attitude
towards Negro troops was mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to
serve in the Confederate Army. It wasn t until the Confederates were running low on
men did they allow Negros to serve. The Negros serving in the North felt it as their
duty to serve and support the cause for their own freedom.
2.General Ulysses S. Grant was a brilliant strategist and seemed to be able to plan out
movements in advance. The people of the North thought the tremendous casualties to
be horrendous. But Grant knew that the South s casualties to be much more than the
North s. Grant did have the support and trust of the North though and his record did
well to deserve that support. His commanders trusted his completely. Grant s idea of
Total War was to break down the infrastructure of the South. The Siege of Petersburg
which lasted almost years, then the capture of Richmond is among the battles Grant
engaged in while south of the James

Reflection Of Journalism And Writing
I know that the Master of Science program at Columbia will fit my needs as a
student and as a budding professional. Journalism and writing have not been lifelong
loves of mine, and throughout high school I was a math and science student. I took
an introductory journalism course as a senior in high school, and I quickly learned
that journalismis more than writing about yourself and topics you like. Even with
the light requirements of the class, I got my first taste of the process of writing a
story. When I arrived to campus, I decided to apply to the journalism program in
hopes of simply becoming a better writer, regardless of what I would end up
studying. Nearly three years later, I am thankful that I decided to take the first
steps toward becoming a better writer. The undergraduate journalism classes I took
piqued my interest in the field, and the potential graduate courses at Columbia will
culminate my learning experience. As an undergraduate, I was particularly
influenced by a class I took during the 2016 election. The class was described as a
seminar discussion on recent election news, but it turned out to be something
entirely different. I soon found out that the class was going to be responsible for
creating and maintaining a new website similar to Politifact. Each student was
assigned a local or state senate race and a national race to follow and fact check.
This task, while interesting, seemed daunting at first. The local race seemed too

Ford Pinto Failure
Introduction
This memo is a failure analysis report on the Ford Pinto automobile accidents. On
28th May, 1972 a 1972 Ford Pinto car (manufactured by Ford Motors) burst into
flames after a 30 Miles Per Hour (mph) collision caused an immediate fire burning
down the car killing the driver, Lily Gray (Leggett, Christopher 1999). According to
public record, more than 500 people have been killed from Ford Pinto crash burnings
(Dowie, Mark 1977). The ensuing sections of this report outline the events leading up
to the design and production of faulty Ford Pintos, the rationale behind the failure,
and the lessons that can be grasped from this failure. Description
The Ford Pinto began being designed in 1968. The fuel system was designed such that

(Dowie, Mark 1977).
On the other hand, the failure was caused by a questionable cost benefit analysis
which gave little importance to the safety of drivers and passengers. By putting a
monetary value to car burnings and deaths, Ford concluded that they would make
larger revenue by producing a car that did not need adequate safety designs. Lessons
to be Learned
The designers and engineers working on the Ford Pinto were aware of the results
of the crash tests and the possibility of the gas tank rupturing. However, they did
not redesign the fuel system or add any protection between the bumper and the gas
tank in the final design. Management pressure can be used to suppress concerns,
however, as engineers, the code of ethics requires that all engineers must be
dedicated towards safety, protection and welfare of people, and should not give
consent to any design with potentially dangerous consequences. Moreover, it is
apparent the rupturing of gas tanks was caused by the failure of a small part of a
large mechanism. It is important to make sure that no design feature is ignored or
treated as trivial in an engineering project; every part and every design must work
efficiently and safely in order to be used by society. Lastly, no factor should be placed
above safety in our
Synopsis Of The Movie The Greatest Show Man
The new movie The Greatest showman centers around Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum
and his circus. It features many critically acclaimed actors, Zendaya Coleman as Anne
Wheeler, Michelle Williams as Charity Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Hugh
Jackman as P.T. Barnum, and Rebecca Ferguson as Jenny Lind. Their characters go
through several trials throughout the filmincluding (but not limited to) interracial
relationships, monetary issues, hate crimes, as well as racial and oddity
discrimination.
I did a short Google search when I saw it the first time, as well as simply looking
through my newsfeed on Facebook; many people aren t too happy with the
portrayal of Barnum, as he was not the man Jackman portrayed him to be in the
film. He put the misfits on display as freaks and oddities, drawing on the crowds
racial discriminations and hatred to make a profit. The movie didn t even mention
Joice Heth, an elderly, blind, and severely paralyzed slave. Portrayed by Barnum as a
161 year old nurse who raised and took care of George Washington, he even went so
far as to perform a live autopsy after her death to prove her old age. She is only one
of many real, unspoken people of Barnum Bailey Circus. ... Show more content on

Difference Between Gramsci And Marxism Antonio Gramsci was a leading figure in Marxism in Europe in the first half of the 20th century his work has played a significant role in how Marxists and political sociologists interrupt the structures of capitalist society. Marxist thought prior to Gramsci focused on the inevitable contradictions of capitalism that would spell its destruction. As Marx famously stated the end of the first chapter of the communist manifesto : The essential conditions for the existence and for the sway of the bourgeois class is the formation and augmentation of capital; the condition for capital is wage labour. While in crises again the problem of the tendency of the rate of profit wasn t dealt with and with the markets failing, austerity measure had to be reintroduced. This analysis of the economic crisis tells us we are facing a future of shorter booms and much longer recessions and that capitalism is fundamentally incapable of

Zabel is a respectable businessman who loves religious music and the finer. However, there is a shameful and jealous heart hides in his body that he lusts for his goddaughter Nelly. Compared to Naturalism, poetic realism had a more romantic, idealistic, mysterious character.(Linda Nochlin, Realism) It shows that the characters in Poetic Realism are usually marginal characters in the society. Blade Runner Film Analysis Blade Runner: Film Analysis and Critics Review Blade Runner (1982), directed by Ridley Scott, combines the element, film noir and science fiction, thus creating a outstanding visual aesthetic that has been embraced by most critics. In comparison, [Rutger] Hauer s silver haired superman is more human than human, and finally more complex than Ford s victimized flatfoot. The Zeitgeist is the essence of an era, and is more than simply slapping a few neon colours onto a design and saying that it captures the Zeitgeist of the 1980s. Zeitgeist consists of the emotions, attitudes and morals that are at the heart of every person in a time period. It is the main thought processes and beliefs that create and direct the actions and styles of an era. Zeitgeist can be represented in the literature, philosophy and the designs of that time. Zeitgeist can be crucial to designers as it can allow them to connect directly with the emotions and values of their customers if they completely understand the Zeitgeist of the modern era. This understanding also gives designers the opportunity to step away from the Zeitgeist and leave a big impression on the consumer market. Zeitgeist is the product of the circumstances and technical limitations of an era, as these can drastically influence the general outlook of the people within a time period. While these genres were seen as the model of Cuban expression at the turn of the century, the Afrocuban musicknown as Son would soon become (and remain) the paragon of Cuban artistic and cultural expression; the previous genres paled in comparison in terms of popularity. There are two main reasons for this persistence: the brutish and inhumane practices from Spanish and Portuguese slave traders, and the spiritual concept of ori practiced by the Yoruba. Before the abolition of slavery in 1886, the Spanish and Portuguese s philosophy was to work their slaves to death for four to five years, before bringing in a new hoard of bodies. Unlike the United States, there was little effort to integrate slaves into the culture. Because no assimilation took place, African culture was never replaced or lost in Cuba. Beyond this, the Yoruba people from Africa carried with them the tradition of Ori. This concept referred one s culture residing in the head or consciousness, and therefore unable to be taken away. This persistence of African elements led to the spread of Son throughout Cuban
  • 31. Analysis Of The Article We The People Dr. Nieva International Business 4 December 2014 The statement We the People defines whom the United States of America was and is till this day. The constitution is considered one of the most powerful and dynamic documents of all time. Ten years after gaining independence from Great Britain, the delegates of America decided that the Articles of Confederation, the governing document in place, must be amended or replaced if the country were to prosper. Under the Articles of Confederation, America failed to become one nation, as the country faced financial issues, stemming from a weak centralized government. The weak centralized government was unable to enforce laws, and collect taxes from the states as congress simply had very little power. In order to correct these problems fifty five delegates from twelve states, Rhode Island being the only state without a representative, meet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to address this problem. The delegates decided it was better to create a new document then try to ratify the old, hence the birth of the United States Constitution. At the time of the constitution the statement We the People applied to a completely different notion of people then it does in the present day. Originally we the people only applied to white, landholding males, who had a significant amount of power in society. Over time more and more ethnic groups and classes of people have fallen under We the People , strengthening the Constitution of the

Not only did it perform exceptionally well on the PlayStation, across all platforms, only Pokemon Sun/Moon on the 3DS sold more copies. Without doubt, the FIFA franchise is huge and while EA Sportsknow that they re likely to top the sales charts each year, I m happy to report that with FIFA 18, they are not resting on their laurels. This attention to detail also stretches to certain players. While it would be impossible to uniquely program thousands of footballers individually, the bigger name, as well as some lesser known players, have their own unique style of play. Of course, Ronaldo and Messi play like their real life counterparts but it s refreshing to see someone like Matt Ritchie behave in a similar fashion to real life. Although not a bad thing, the differences between FIFA s 17 and 18 regarding AI behaviour adapting during a match is less noticeable. Games are slow and play out similarly to FIFA 17, with an emphasis on possession being the key to unlock defences. However, one welcome change I found is how teams react to falling a goal or two behind. One gripe I have of FIFA games is how the AI responds to conceding early on. Teams tend to go kamikaze, prematurely piling men forward leaving gaps in defence. This behaviour is common at the latter stages of a real match but not early on. With FIFA 18, teams do seem less partial to keep throwing men forward nonsensically when falling behind, now only doing so when time is running out or the possibility of a comeback is likely. The quick substitution feature is a welcome addition. Quite simply, as a match nears its conclusion, pressing the R2 button brings up a small box where you can substitute a tiring player with a positional like for like replacement instead of pausing

This report is concerned with the effects of teacher professionalization on elementary and secondary teachers in the United States(Clabaugh and Rozycki, 1986). There is a general perception that there is a marked change in the context of education in general and teacher education in particular. In a world that increasingly values specialization, teachers were found to be lacking in expertise in their respective fields of specialization. It is also recognized that there is a shift in educational emphasis from what to learn to how to learn brought about by an accelerating pace in the production of knowledge triggered by the intensifying and pervading scientific and technological revolution. But studies show that teachers do not have the appropriate learning tools such as communication, problem solving, and thinking skills to respond to such trends(Yeban,2002). Yeban (2002) continued that new imperatives are forcing teacher education institutions to re visit and re think their assumptions, theories, and practices about the kind of teachers that must be produced. The current curriculum where the respondents of the study belong is deemed insufficient to address these concerns. Issues such as the growing gap between theory and practice, failure to make teachers

Subaltern designates the lower or colonized classes placed deeply in the shadows outside of the hegemonic power structure of the ruling class as they have little access to their own voice. Likewise, in The Joy Luck Club, the Chinese mothers who are at the boundaries of society, are dependent upon western intellectuals to speak for them as they do not adopt the dominant point of view or vocabulary as expressive with their own identity. They were instructed to follow the Chinese path and expectations of their parents, rooting the culture deeply in their mind. Although the mothers were capable of holding their traditional values, as they became American citizens, they ve interacted and mixed with the American culture, causing new forms of identity and experience. For instance, at the end of the novel, Lindo Jong is competent to use her two faces, Chinese and American, to accommodate her potential to convey a thought or feeling in words in multiple situations. Her display of the two faces blur the borderline of having one cultural identity over the other, allowing her to move between worlds. As a matter of fact, the daughters deal with hybrid identity as their mothers still preserve, practice, and teach them Chinese culture at home, regardless of living in an American society. Despite this, their way of thinking is influenced by American culture as they receive American education, form relationships with American people, and are introduced to American media. This failure in full assimilation into American culture, allowed them to inhabit a double consciousness that is Chinese in its particulars but universally American. For example, Waverly Jong, a model of success, possesses greater critical thinking when playing chess using Chinese and American strategies. LaDuke was raised with a different sense of values than most Americans and goes on to describe her upbringing. She notes that she was raised with little appreciation for American culture and that consumerism, in part, is responsible for cultural destruction. Her main idea lies in the difference between the average American community and the way she lives in her Native community at White Earth. She points out the down side to the American community, such as consumerism and deculturalizing of people, and tells of some of the values that her Native community has installed upon her and her children, like respect and community, which is really her main idea. Both of these essays point out how community shapes character. In Peay s essay she concentrates on community as ones surroundings. She would consider community as the city in which one lives. By Jihad Mohd Erfino Introduction: Animal testing is one of the most controversial scientific issues debated around the world. It questions the right of wild animals to be used in commercial, cosmetics and even for medical research purposes. Although it happens in most of the world (including New Zealand) today, many question whether it should go on. Animal testing is generally the use of animals for different purposes in lab conditions. Brief history of animal testing and achievements: Animal testing has existed since the 2nd century BCE through the work of Greek scientist Aristotle (Animal testing Wikipedia). He was the first one to have made experiments on live animals. The first animal testing experiments was to find out how our bodies work. For example, the discovery of blood circulation in mammals was discovered in the 12th century by Arabic scientist Ibn Al Nafis and this was refined later in the 17th century by William Harvey. Animal testing has also played a vital role in human medical advances. It has helped developed vaccines to cure diseases such as polio which has almost been eradicated. It has also have helped humans to have a better understanding of our bodily mechanisms, function and several diseases. It hurts me not to be able to get you out of this place, where you live locked up in a golden cage without knowing it. I wish I could introduce you to God, Shakespeare and pain. I would like you to know the concept of chastity, motherhood and love. I would like, Lenina, for you to see me the way I saw you when I met you. You should know that I always think about you, Lenina; In every way, right and wrong. And it s wrong, and it s fine, and I m going crazy. I always pray for you, Lenina. To Jesus, to Pookong, to all the gods I know and whom I do not know. I wish I could have been your Romeo. I wish you would have been my Juliet. I wish things had been different... Am I sinning for wanting more than I deserve? Honestly, Lenina... I do not know how you re going to take this. I do not know if this is going to change anything in you, or if you re just going to throw it away, like you do with everything else. But, Lenina, Love. Cry, laugh. Feel. Pain is a part of life. Live. Forever
  • 55. American Civil War and Sectionalism 1.Approximately 180,000 Negros served in the Union during the Civil War. The Negro Soldier was overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The 54th Massachusetts Colored troops led the assault and scaled the fort s parapet and were only driven back after brutal hand to hand fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the Union Army in areas such as pay. It wasn t until June 15th, 1864 that the Congress granted equal pay to Negro troops. Several Negro soldiers earned the Medal of Honor. The North attitude towards Negro troops was mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to serve in the Confederate Army. It wasn t until the Confederates were running low on men did they allow Negros to serve. The Negros serving in the North felt it as their duty to serve and support the cause for their own freedom. 2.General Ulysses S. Grant was a brilliant strategist and seemed to be able to plan out movements in advance. The people of the North thought the tremendous casualties to be horrendous. But Grant knew that the South s casualties to be much more than the North s. Grant did have the support and trust of the North though and his record did well to deserve that support. His commanders trusted his completely. Grant s idea of Total War was to break down the infrastructure of the South. The Siege of Petersburg which lasted almost years, then the capture of Richmond is among the battles Grant engaged in while south of the James

  • 57. Reflection Of Journalism And Writing I know that the Master of Science program at Columbia will fit my needs as a student and as a budding professional. Journalism and writing have not been lifelong loves of mine, and throughout high school I was a math and science student. I took an introductory journalism course as a senior in high school, and I quickly learned that journalismis more than writing about yourself and topics you like. Even with the light requirements of the class, I got my first taste of the process of writing a story. When I arrived to campus, I decided to apply to the journalism program in hopes of simply becoming a better writer, regardless of what I would end up studying. Nearly three years later, I am thankful that I decided to take the first steps toward becoming a better writer. The undergraduate journalism classes I took piqued my interest in the field, and the potential graduate courses at Columbia will culminate my learning experience. As an undergraduate, I was particularly influenced by a class I took during the 2016 election. The class was described as a seminar discussion on recent election news, but it turned out to be something entirely different. I soon found out that the class was going to be responsible for creating and maintaining a new website similar to Politifact. Each student was assigned a local or state senate race and a national race to follow and fact check. This task, while interesting, seemed daunting at first. The local race seemed too small for anybody to
  • 58. Ford Pinto Failure Introduction This memo is a failure analysis report on the Ford Pinto automobile accidents. On 28th May, 1972 a 1972 Ford Pinto car (manufactured by Ford Motors) burst into flames after a 30 Miles Per Hour (mph) collision caused an immediate fire burning down the car killing the driver, Lily Gray (Leggett, Christopher 1999). According to public record, more than 500 people have been killed from Ford Pinto crash burnings (Dowie, Mark 1977). The ensuing sections of this report outline the events leading up to the design and production of faulty Ford Pintos, the rationale behind the failure, and the lessons that can be grasped from this failure. Description The Ford Pinto began being designed in 1968. The fuel system was designed such that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Dowie, Mark 1977). On the other hand, the failure was caused by a questionable cost benefit analysis which gave little importance to the safety of drivers and passengers. By putting a monetary value to car burnings and deaths, Ford concluded that they would make larger revenue by producing a car that did not need adequate safety designs. Lessons to be Learned The designers and engineers working on the Ford Pinto were aware of the results of the crash tests and the possibility of the gas tank rupturing. However, they did not redesign the fuel system or add any protection between the bumper and the gas tank in the final design. Management pressure can be used to suppress concerns, however, as engineers, the code of ethics requires that all engineers must be dedicated towards safety, protection and welfare of people, and should not give consent to any design with potentially dangerous consequences. Moreover, it is apparent the rupturing of gas tanks was caused by the failure of a small part of a large mechanism. It is important to make sure that no design feature is ignored or treated as trivial in an engineering project; every part and every design must work efficiently and safely in order to be used by society. Lastly, no factor should be placed above safety in our
  • 59. Synopsis Of The Movie The Greatest Show Man The new movie The Greatest showman centers around Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum and his circus. It features many critically acclaimed actors, Zendaya Coleman as Anne Wheeler, Michelle Williams as Charity Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, and Rebecca Ferguson as Jenny Lind. Their characters go through several trials throughout the filmincluding (but not limited to) interracial relationships, monetary issues, hate crimes, as well as racial and oddity discrimination. I did a short Google search when I saw it the first time, as well as simply looking through my newsfeed on Facebook; many people aren t too happy with the portrayal of Barnum, as he was not the man Jackman portrayed him to be in the film. He put the misfits on display as freaks and oddities, drawing on the crowds racial discriminations and hatred to make a profit. The movie didn t even mention Joice Heth, an elderly, blind, and severely paralyzed slave. Portrayed by Barnum as a 161 year old nurse who raised and took care of George Washington, he even went so far as to perform a live autopsy after her death to prove her old age. She is only one of many real, unspoken people of Barnum Bailey Circus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don t know why they discluded James Anthony Bailey, perhaps they didn t think he would be helpful or useful to the story line. I can t say I m overly upset, though. When they cut Bailey, they added Carlyle, making room for the controversial relationship of Carlyle and Anne Wheeler, which many critics say is one of the best ways they could touch on the discrimination of interracial relationships at the time the movie is placed
