3. Historic
Bărcăneşti is a commune in Prahova County, Muntenia,
Romania, consisting of the villages of Bărcăneşti (residence),
Ghighiu, Puscaşi, Româneşti and Tătărani.
In 1898, the commune was in Crivina, Prahova county was
formed only of residence with 502 villagers, a church
founded in 1838 by Scarlat Barcanescu, and a school
founded in 1890.
In 1968, Prahova county was restored, and the Barcăneşti
commune was included the former Tatra village, as well as
the village of Ghighiu from another abolished commune.
4. Location
The commune is located in the south of Ploiesti and is crossed by
DN1 national road coming from Bucharest and leading to Brasov,
as well as by the Bucharest-Ploiesti highway, which has here the
connection node with DN1.
5. Demography
According to the census carried out in 2011, the population
of Bărcăneşti commune is 9,384 in villagers, increasing
compared to the previous census in 2002, when there were
9,377 inhabitants.
Most of the villagers are Romanian (92.74%), with a
minority of Roma (3.2%). For 3.95% of the population,
ethnicity is unknown.
From a confessional point of view, most of the villagers are
Orthodox (93.34%). For 3.96% of the population,
confessional membership is unknown.
6. Climate and relief
The climate is temperate continental moderate with some
eastern influences causing blizzard in the cold season.
Precipitation decreases from north to south and west with
values between 1300 mm and 540 mm per year. The
dominant winds are the west in the cold season and the
blizzard is present.
Barcanesti commune is located in Campia Ploiestilor,
subdivision in the Romanian Plain.
Relief is characterized by wide valleys and smooth
interfluves, called popular fields, with small depressions.

commune, forests occupy
discontinuous territories,
alternating with orchards
or agricultural crops
installed here after
deforestation. In their
composition they meet
beech specimens mixed
with the oak.
Dâmbu River is a tributary
of the Teleajen River in
Romania.
