Poienile Izei is a commune located in the historic region of Maramureș in western Romania. It is situated in a mountainous area surrounded by forests at an average altitude of 600 meters. The most important tourist attraction is the wooden church from 1632 that is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list and known for its vivid paintings depicting the second coming of Christ and sinners being punished. The isolated village has maintained traditional customs and crafts passed down for generations, with nature and surrounding fir trees contributing to the picturesque landscape.
