Valea Doftanei (Romanian for "Valley of the Doftana")
Is a commune in Prahova County, Romania. It is composed of two villages: Teșila (the
commune centre) and Trăisteni.
Located in the northwestern part of Prahova County,the commune has an area of 286.26
km2. Its population primarily inhabits the central and southern areas, with the north being
taken up by mountainous terrain. The Doftana River traverses the commune for some 30 km
from north to south before ending in the Paltinu Dam and reservoir.
The Paltinu Dam is a 108-meter-high arch, built on the Doftana River valley.

as cheese producers.
The 'cascavea' of Valea Doftanei in Prahova
County (north of Bucharest) is a traditional
cheese, it has a century-old tradition, but it
was registered at the Romanian State Office
for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) in
2006, and it has its own 13-year old local
festival.
The cascavea's recipe seems simple, but
skills and experience are essential for the
final result.
