Fundata is the highest commune in Romania, located in the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului Mountains. It has preserved traditional lifestyles of herding and agriculture while developing tourism, with the nearby village of Sirnea declared the first tourist village in Romania in 1968. The area is known for its mountain scenery, historic churches, ethnographic museum, and traditional foods like cheese and pastrami. An annual shepherds' festival called Nedeia Muntilor has taken place in Fundata since at least 1373. Cross-country skiing was also pioneered in Fundata in the early 20th century.
