2. • Fundata is a
commune in Braşov
County, Romania, in
the historic region of
Transylvania. It is
composed of three
villages: Fundata,
Fundăţica and Şirnea
The place offers
beautiful panoramas
for the Piatra Craiului
Mountains and
Bucegi Mountains,
the freshness and the
privacy make the
complex a place full
of beauty and peace

3. • Localization: boundary between Brasov and Arges County,
in step Rucar-Bran (halfway)
• GPS coordinates: 45°26′N 25°17′E
• Access road: is from Brasov and Pitesti, E574 road. The
road in the area is mountainous terrain (with serpentine).

4. • In the communist period,
Fundata was one of the
fewest places in Romania
that did not
experience collectivization,
because it was considered
that the land was not suited
for the “model” communist
farms. That meant that the
people kept their lands and
their lifestyle, otherwise a
rare possibility in a
communist country.

5. • Fundata is known best for its cheese
specialties, namely for the smoked cheese and
for the “burduf” cheese wrapped in fir bark.
Those types of cheese are specific to this area,
and one will be able to find them in the all
Rucar-Bran pass. The local holiday is “Nedeea
Muntilor”, on July, 20, every year.

6. • The main economical activity of the people
living here was, from ancient times (and still
is), the sheep and cow breeding and the milk
processing. Nowadays, the tourism is a new
and important activity for Fundata.
