Passion based learning

Prologue
In response to a prompt in a recent class, Akira, a young college student, related how our
everyday experiences with peers and in activities can deeply affect how we develop:
In the world that technology has taken over our communications, I usually
feel lonely. Yesterday I was in a room with my group of friends. Every one
of us was on the phone, either texting or on social media. It was really bad.
There were no words tossing around the room, it was just complete silence.
There were so many opportunities to connect to the people next to you, yet
people were on their phones for no reason. Then, I thought about loneliness
as I looked around the room. Being on the phone is a way to isolate us from
the community. We might have hundreds of friends on social media, but how
many REAL friends do we have? I think we become more lonely when we get
into our phones. At least, I do. I feel sad that we are missing out on living in
the moment. It happens whether we are in a room by ourselves or in a room
full of people. Whenever my partner is on the phone—not even talking—for
a long period of time, I get lonely to the point that I feel like I am not loved or
I cannot talk about my concerns. He is right next to me, and there is complete
silence for hours. What can we do in those few hours without being on the
phone? He didn’t have a phone when we met. We were totally different back
then compared to how we are today. I get really sad when I think how com-
munication has changed.
Akira’s poignant response reveals to us how individual circumstances can have a profound
effect on development for some, and have little effect for others. It also reminds us that we are
all affected by the ways in which technology has transformed social interaction, among young
people especially. Just as the advancement of automobiles and the telephone transformed
social networks during the 20th century, the Information Age is no doubt affecting part of
the foundation of psychosocial growth for today’s generation of children. As this final module

Importance of home environment for a child's life
Introduction
All in all, having a child grow up in a family environment is very important for the child. The good environment of the family leads to seeking out better relationships, and the child will have better communication skills and social skills. In this way, children will be better prepared for school. The healthy environment of the family helps children to gain success in life. Children learn from their parents and from the family environment. From the family, the child will learn how to survive in society. The first relationship we make with the family will determine other relationships that the child will have. The child will learn to make further relationships. If the family members treat the child with respect and care, then the child will automatically respect others and establish good relationships with others.
Explanation
The qualities of the child will come from the quality of relationship with its family. Family is also beneficial for the children's self-confidence. Children should be allowed to express themselves on issues they might be facing. Besides, they should also be allowed to state their opinion on some problems in the family. This will make them feel valued and appreciated.
They will grow up with confidence and will be responsible adults. They will develop communication skills which are very important in life. People who can communicate well are more likely to be good leaders and are also live happier lives. Growing up in a stable and smooth environment gives the child the ability to fight with difficulties and face the world without worry. A strong connection with the family makes the child friendly and leads to more happiness and comfort in life. In a family, the mother is always more careful about the children. Children will learn the ethics of life from their mothers, and the mother will set the base to learn other aspects of life in children. The mother has more capacity to tolerate the mistakes of children, and she will always forgive the mistakes. The mother will teach the lesson by pointing out the child's mistakes.
On the other hand, the reaction of fathers can be sometimes harsh, and they are strict. The strictness is also needed for children in the early days, which does not mean beating the child due to his mistakes. The strictness should be implemented when the company of the children is bad. The family should restrict their children to go out and join the wrong companies.
Additionally, the parents should be good role models for the children. This is because children tend to emulate the behavior of their parents. Several studies have been done on parenting, and they have confirmed this. If the parent wants their children to have good morals, they should demonstrate good behavior to them. I ...

This is a workshop about communication and collaboration. We will experience how we can analyze the reasons for resistance to change (exercise 1) and practice how to improve our conversation style and be more in control and effective in the way we communicate (exercise 2).
This session will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
Abstract:
Let’s talk about powerful conversations! We all know how to lead a constructive conversation, right? Then why is it so difficult to have those conversations with people at work, especially those in powerful positions that show resistance to change?
Learning to control and direct conversations takes understanding and practice.
We can combine our innate empathy with our analytical skills to gain a deeper understanding of complex situations at work. Join this session to learn how to prepare for difficult conversations and how to improve our agile conversations in order to be more influential without power. We will use Dave Gray’s Empathy Mapping, Argyris’ Ladder of Inference and The Four Rs from Agile Conversations (Squirrel and Fredrick).
In the session you will experience how preparing and reflecting on your conversation can help you be more influential at work. You will learn how to communicate more effectively with the people needed to achieve positive change. You will leave with a self-revised version of a difficult conversation and a practical model to use when you get back to work.

Psychological safety in teams is important; team members must feel safe and able to communicate and collaborate effectively to deliver value. It’s also necessary to build long-lasting teams since things will happen and relationships will be strained.
But, how safe is a team? How can we determine if there are any factors that make the team unsafe or have an impact on the team’s culture?
In this mini-workshop, we’ll play games for psychological safety and team culture utilizing a deck of coaching cards, The Psychological Safety Cards. We will learn how to use gamification to gain a better understanding of what’s going on in teams. Individuals share what they have learned from working in teams, what has impacted the team’s safety and culture, and what has led to positive change.
Different game formats will be played in groups in parallel. Examples are an ice-breaker to get people talking about psychological safety, a constellation where people take positions about aspects of psychological safety in their team or organization, and collaborative card games where people work together to create an environment that fosters psychological safety.

Editor's Notes
- All of a sudden you now need to shift gear fast, on time, on the dot, from being a parent, to being a teacher/tutor, to housekeeper, adviser, disciplinarian, . Plus it forced us to also stay at home because we also WFH. While we do our work, we also have to make sure that our children are doing what they have to do.
- The worst is: Students social skills are affected. They feel alone – together with only their screens or gadgets with them. This is worrisome.
- Remember that what may seem trivial to you could mean the world to your teen. They may be anxious about maintaining friendships or worrying about their future. Don’t downplay the importance of these concerns to make your teen feel better. Instead, take time to hear out their concerns and give validating statements such as, “I know you are anxious about losing your friends, and I understand how much that is weighing on you.”
- Gives them hope.
- Remember that you’re not alone in this journey. Check in with other parents to see what they’ve found effective or to ask if they need help. Share your concerns and useful hints. If you need contact information for other parents or resources, reach out to the PTA or your child’s school. It is important that we all work together as a community for the good of our children and families.
