English 1110:
Importance of home environment for a child's life
Introduction
All in all, having a child grow up in a family environment is
very important for the child. The good environment of the
family leads to seeking out better relationships, and the child
will have better communication skills and social skills. In this
way, children will be better prepared for school. The healthy
environment of the family helps children to gain success in life.
Children learn from their parents and from the family
environment. From the family, the child will learn how to
survive in society. The first relationship we make with the
family will determine other relationships that the child will
have. The child will learn to make further relationships. If the
family members treat the child with respect and care, then the
child will automatically respect others and establish good
relationships with others.
Explanation
The qualities of the child will come from the quality of
relationship with its family. Family is also beneficial for the
children's self-confidence. Children should be allowed to
express themselves on issues they might be facing. Besides,
they should also be allowed to state their opinion on some
problems in the family. This will make them feel valued and
appreciated.
They will grow up with confidence and will be responsible
adults. They will develop communication skills which are very
important in life. People who can communicate well are more
likely to be good leaders and are also live happier lives.
Growing up in a stable and smooth environment gives the child
the ability to fight with difficulties and face the world without
worry. A strong connection with the family makes the child
friendly and leads to more happiness and comfort in life. In a
family, the mother is always more careful about the children.
Children will learn the ethics of life from their mothers, and the
mother will set the base to learn other aspects of life in
children. The mother has more capacity to tolerate the mistakes
of children, and she will always forgive the mistakes. The
mother will teach the lesson by pointing out the child's
mistakes.
On the other hand, the reaction of fathers can be sometimes
harsh, and they are strict. The strictness is also needed for
children in the early days, which does not mean beating the
child due to his mistakes. The strictness should be implemented
when the company of the children is bad. The family should
restrict their children to go out and join the wrong companies.
Additionally, the parents should be good role models for the
children. This is because children tend to emulate the behavior
of their parents. Several studies have been done on parenting,
and they have confirmed this. If the parent wants their children
to have good morals, they should demonstrate good behavior to
them. If parents depict bad morals to their children, then this is
what the children will copy. Children who have good manners
are less likely to be involved in issues of indiscipline when they
join the school.
The importance of families and the home environment is an
article written by the author Angelica Bonci. The author of the
article explains the importance of the home environment in
children's life. She states that the parent's involvement in their
child's life will positively affect the children's academic
performance, and care of the family will make them stronger to
mark good names in their professions. The family environment
is more crucial than the school environment for achieving
success in life for children. The question that arises is what the
basic need of the children is. The home environment or school
environment?
Children need the environment of their home more than the
school environment because children learn the ethics of life
from the parents, which leads to good behavior in schools and
professions. The parents should be supportive, and they must
learn to love their children and correct their mistakes to
maintain a good family environment for them.
Family involvement at school
Symons found that family involvement at school is the most
significant factor in the success of children at schools. The
mothers who are more educated will involve more with the
school. She will ask the performance of the child daily.
Research proves that families who involved more at school lead
to better performance of children at every phase of the study.
Parental education skills and attitudes
Parental education skills and attitudes matter a lot in their
children's life. If the parents are educated, then the child will
learn the basic needs of life quickly. Educated parents always
give instructions to their child and maintain a comfortable
environment for the child. Parent's level of education correlates
with the development of the child from age 12 to age 27. And
reports said educated parents provide a better environment to
the child than parents who are not educated. Educated parents'
guide the children to pick their ambition in life. Parent's
attitudes and aspirations play an essential role in the
development of the child, and it will lead to achievement in life.
Effective parental involvement
Before school, the children must be prepared in the home
environment to live happily. The parent's involvement is
significant. Parents should treat the children politely, and they
should develop skills in children at an early age. Parents should
make their children start reading books, visiting the library,
teaching the alphabet, and numbers. Besides, they should create
opportunities for their child's friends to spend time with them in
the house. These factors are associated with high performance
and scores of children. They will develop behavioral senses at
an early age.
Family life
A proper family environment leads to the successful career of
the child. When children are growing, and they enter college
life, parents should never impose unnecessary preventions. The
parents must give them space to learn the most crucial phase of
life. The college phase of the children is very crucial, and, in
that stage, unnecessary strictness leads to poor results. Never
try to stop children from hanging out and playing with friends.
However, you can keep an eye on their activities.
According to an article by Rev. Saude, a cross-sectional study
comprising of 350 children aged 17 to 42 was carried out in
central areas of Brazil in 1999. Each asked the socio-economic
questions of the children. The questionnaire process is
considered for the home observation for measurement of
environment scale. The results were positive, which shows that
the children who lived with an educated mother had a more
suitable environment, and they learned the early lesson of life
from the mothers. Children who don't spend the early years with
the family are not well maintained according to the interviews
and questionnaires. It was found that 94 percent of children
with positive habits developed them by living with their
mothers. And the attitude of an educated mother is critical.
Also, those children who spend early years with their families
are more likely to feel loved. This is because of the bonding
that occurred between them and their parents. Parents should
thus show love to their children so that they can also do the
same as parents. A child is more likely to well I their aspects of
life when brought up in a loving family. The cognitive
performance score was 96.3 for those who were assessed to
provide a better environment in home-based schools, and their
parents avoid punitive behavior.
Conclusion
The quality of the stimulation in the family environment is
crucial for the children. It develops a strong relationship
between children with the family.
Personal experience and observations
If I talk about my own experience, the environment given by my
family is pretty cool. I learned the ethics of my life in the early
days. My parents always tried to focus on my abilities.
Sometimes the experience can also be bad when you see the
fights in the family. Parents often fight with each other which is
the most dangerous picture to provide to a child. My parents
always tried to avoid the fights. The environment I got was
very impactful and I was loved at every stage of life. My
parents provided me with everything. They made different plans
to go out for a picnic with my siblings. Once a week, the
outings are arranged. They taught me to behave well with others
and the most important lesson I learned is that if you want to be
respected then give respect to others.
My personal observations claim that children learn ethics from
home and the way they are treated in a home environment
leads to abilities to fight the world. I have observed that parents
who never impose unnecessary restrictions on children are more
successful in providing a good environment for the child.
Scientifically it is proved that parents who are harsh and rude
will give birth to children who have a harsh attitude. The genes
are transferred to the children and child adopts the habits of
their parents. So being calm and polite is the best way to
provide a suitable environment for the children.

Introduction
This paper is going to analyze two images and the messages that
each message depicts. The images I selected are both
representing women in general, the beauty of women and that
which is expected from a woman. The first can be said that it is
targeting women of all ages. It is targeting not only working
women but also housewives since it is emphasizing on beauty
generally. In the figure, the focus is on the face of the woman.
The second one it can be determined that the target audience is
not broad this time as compared to the first figure since only
housewives are being targeted. From the dress and actions of
the woman in the figure, it can be deduced that she is a
housewife.
Jean Kilbourne and Advertisements
Figure 1: (Duke)
From the analysis of this figure, it can be said that it is
targeting women of all ages. It is targeting not only working
women but also housewives since it is emphasizing on beauty
generally. In the figure, the focus is on the face of the woman.
The expression of the woman is gentle and all of her features
are perfect. From her eyebrows to her chin, she appears to be
beautiful and there is a specific attractiveness to her that she
exhibits. This aligns with the criticism of Jean Kilbourne that
media portrays women in such a way that they are made to
appear beautiful and it creates the urge for viewers to appear as
beautiful and attractive as the women portrayed in
advertisements. In this advertisement, although the focus is on
women, working women are especially targeted as they tend to
care for their work more than their appearance.
Working women focus more on their work than on their
appearance and in this advertisement, the woman is a soldier.
Normally, soldiers are not required to work on their appearance
as there is strict discipline in the military but that is what the
advertisement is attempting to concentrate on. Even though
there is no need to focus on her appearance, the woman looks
charming and it will help her in communicating with others in a
better manner. In the advertisement, the woman is talking to
someone on the phone and in the background, there is another
woman in the same uniform giving a message to the solider. It
suggests that the woman is probably a messenger and her duty
requires her to communicate with soldiers regularly. Since she
is beautiful, she would be capable of communicating messages
in a friendly and charming manner. It is implying that if a
woman needs to interact and communicate with people then it is
important for her to ensure that she appears beautiful and her
features are delicate. In the figure, the image of a soldier is
effective in influencing the viewers but an important role is also
played by the persuasive and eye-catching sentence written
right under the picture. The sentence is “Give you skin Ivory
care, Doctors advise!” and what makes it persuasive is the fact
that it is referencing the suggestion of doctors.
People and viewers tend to be attracted to those advertisements
in which credible claims and verifiable information is provided.
For instance, if an advertisement is about healthy vegetarian
food and depicts the impacts of fast-food on our body then
people will tend to believe it more than plain advertisements
because it delivers information which can be verified from
different sources and is normally not provided to the audience.
In this advertisement as well, the word “doctors” has a
significant impact on the target audience. To increase the
positive effect on the audience, instructions have been given
below the sentence. These instructions explain what to do while
using the soap.
Although instructions might not appear to be important in
catching the attention of the audience, these instructions are
written concisely and persuasively. If a woman looks at the
advertisement, she can read the instructions to know more about
the product before purchasing it. Overall, it can be said that this
advertisement is quite effective in targeting the audience. It
might not have been as much effective as it is without the use of
credible information. The fact that it is using “doctor” in the
sentence has increased its degree of persuasiveness.
If this advertisement is analyzed while keeping the
criticism of Kilbourne in mind, it can be observed that the focus
is on an exceptionally charming woman. Following Kilbourne,
media portrays a woman in a specific way that they are
beautiful and even their bodies are portrayed to be perfect. In
this advertisement as well, the woman is above the normal
standards and due to it, the viewers will feel the need to appear
as much as attractive as the woman who is focused upon in the
advertisement.
.
Figure 2: (Duke)
From the analysis of the second figure, it can be
determined that the target audience is not broad this time as
compared to the first figure since only housewives are being
targeted. From the dress and actions of the woman in the figure,
it can be deduced that she is a housewife. Similar to the first
figure, the woman in this advertisement is also acting. She is
attempting to preserve the leftovers of bread and upon reading
the main sentence of the advertisement, it can be determined
that the action of the woman is perfectly aligned with what the
theme is. In the advertisement, the woman is charming and
attractive. She is portraying how women used to be in the past
in movies. Traditionally, housewives were made to appear
similar to how the woman appears in the advertisement. It
wouldn’t be wrong to say that she is the epitome of how men
would imagine housewives to be.
In this figure, there is nothing in the background besides
the woman herself who is saving the leftovers. The woman is
smiling brightly as if she knows that she is doing the right thing
by preserving the bread leftovers. The message is quite
effective in gaining the attention of the audience. What makes it
effective is that the main idea is written in a bold and large
font. "Don't Waste Food" is written in red right beside the
woman as if both of them are made to gain equal attention from
the audience. Another element that makes it effective is the
word "government" written above it. The use of this term serves
to add value to the main message and it increases the strength of
the message.
Right below the picture, instructions have been written
similar to the first figure. In both of the figures, instructions
have been written but if they are compared with each other, it
can be said that instructions in the first figure are more
attractive and easy to read. In the first figure, there are small
pictures that provide visualization to the instructions. However,
it is not the same as the second figure. There are no
visualizations provided to the instructions. Although there is a
picture of the product, it doesn't offer necessary imagery to the
instructions which makes it more attractive to read. However,
this is the only issue and there is no other flaw in the
advertisement.
There are two elements on which the second figure is focusing.
These elements include preserving the bread leftovers and being
beautiful. If a woman looks at the figure then her attention will
go first at the beautiful woman. The very first impression would
be that the woman who is a housewife, is quite beautiful. The
viewer would appreciate her attractiveness and in some cases,
would also envy how she appears. After looking at the woman
for a short while, the viewer than would look at the message
which is given beside the woman. After reading the message,
the viewer would read the instructions. The impression of both
the woman and the message would be quite strong on the
viewer.
Generally, the criticism of Kilbourne can be applied to this
advertisement as well. Following her, the media portrays women
in a particular way which creates a picture in the minds of
viewers and they compare it with actual women. For instance,
the media portrays women as attractive and slim. It causes
female viewers to think about how they appear and what should
they do about it. In this figure, the woman is a housewife and
she is quite attractive. It is not only advertising the product but
also the beauty that every woman must possess (Foundation).
Conclusion
Overall, it can be said that the advertisements are effective in
persuading the viewers in purchasing the product being
advertised. What makes it persuasive is the use of credible
information in the advertisement. For the first image, it can also
be said that the criticism of Kilbourne applies to this
advertisement because the woman is made to appear beautiful as
to persuade the audience to also look like she can be said that
this advertisement is effective in delivering its message and
promoting the product. For the second figure, the only flaw this
advertisement has is that instructions don't have visual support
as compared to the first figure which makes it quite difficult to
read them and obtain information. Both the first figure and
second figure are advertising not only products but also
implying that women must be beautiful. In the first
advertisement, the soldier is attractive and she is smiling while
the housewife in the second advertisement is also very beautiful
and she is also smiling. Both of the advertisements portray
positive outlooks of women and Kilbourne's criticism can be
applied to both of these advertisements as they are shaping the
appearance of women in a specific way to their benefit.

Exam week
It is a story happened when I was in my high school.
Sunday
11:48 A.M.
I was in my mother’s car that she drove me to the school. I
looked at those trees and a big lake outside the window of the
car. Yes, my school is a little bit far away to my home and it
locates at a scenic spot called Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort.
When I saw a huge rock which wrote my school’s name, I know
I arrived. I got out of the car after my mother parked it to a
parking lot.
“A new week starts. I wish you would do a good job again
Shiyu.” My mother also got out of the car right after me and
gave me a hug.
“I will, mom. Bye-bye.” I dragged my suitcase and waved my
left hand.
“See you.”
I ran to my dorm and put my suitcase down, then ran to my
classroom.
12:07 P.M.
When I arrived, most of my classmates are already here. I knew
it is because this week is an exam week and there will be a math
exam in 1 hour.
I opened the door. “So noisy…”. I shook my head.
Some people found me arrived, and they rushed to my front.
“OMG You finally arrived. I am too impatient to wait to ask
you some math questions. We struggle with those problems of a
long time.” One of my friend CiCi said.
“Quick!!” Jasmine is anxious.
I was muddled,” Ummm…Let me put off my bag first”
Then I helped lots of my classmates and reviewed by myself.
12:55 P.M.
“Shiiiiyuuuu! The exam will start in 5 minutes, but my brain
stop working and completely blank. Can I sit next to you?” CiCi
blinked to me.
“Sure, but it is not good to cheat huh.” I smiled and took some
pens out of my pencil case.
She looked very happy and ignored what I said after ‘Sure’
“I will get a good grade!” She said.
I shake my head.
Other classmates almost fell over each other with offers of
hospitality to me to exchange the chance to have the seat which
surrounds me.
2:00 P.M.
I finished the exam and went back to the classroom early and
started eating some snacks.
2:30 P.M.
“Ring~~”, the bell rings and the math exam is over.
People gradually came back. A lot of people rushed to me again
and asked the answer I wrote. People who got same as me
laughed and others looked upset.
Jasmine asked me three problems, but none of her answers were
same as mine.
“Ahhhh! I’m dead.”
I scratched my head, “Umm…Maybe you are correct. My
answers won’t be always correct.”
“But we all know your math is so great!”
“Haha. We all think you are the answer sheet. ” Someone joked
me.
“Well…”
“Fine…Don’t be so upset. There must be some miracles.” She
muttered and went back to her seat.
********
5:20 P.M. The end of today’s last class.
“Dinner!!!I’m coming!” Some boys shouted.
I sat on my seat and looked at people went dinner or dorm with
their friends. I was ‘famous’ before and right after the exam,
but they were not my friends. They thought I can help them to
get good grades, so they approached to me.
“That’s all. I got used to be alone and I don’t need friends.” I
let out a sigh.
There were too many people at the dinning hall at that time, so I
decided to play video games for a while first. I opened my
computer and click on the icon of ‘league of legend’.
“What are you doing here? Why don’t you go to dinner?” It’s
our math teacher. He came in quietly and scared me.
I quickly closed the window of the game and said,” It’s too
crowded now. I just wait for a moment here. What happened?”
“True. Well, I left my book.” He picked up the book on the
platform, “By the way, could you help me check those
examination papers? That’s too much and I have something
important to do tonight. You are good at math. If you can help
me, I will feel easier.”
“Sure.” I stood up and followed him back to his office.
He already checked some examination papers, including mine. I
realized that’s why he did not eat dinner either——he was in
hurry to check those examination papers. I looked at my
examination paper. The maximum score is 42 and I got 39. It’s
enough for me, because I know this exam is not easy. He
offered half of the examination papers to me and gave me the
answer sheet.
“If you have questions just ask me, I believe you can do well.”
I nodded my head and started checking.
6:10 P.M.
I helped the math teacher check all those examination papers,
then I incidentally knew everyone’s grade. Not surprisingly, my
grade is the highest. I went to the dining hall and bought a rice
and vegetable roll, because I thought It’s too embarrassed to eat
at the dining hall alone. Suddenly, someone slightly hit my right
shoulder.
“Hey. You always went to the dinning hall alone. Why?” It’s a
girl called Ebit. She is a student from a class next to me.
“Well…” I was speechless.
“You have lots of friends, right? I saw everyone surrounded you
when I walked through your classroom. Why don’t you eat
dinner with them?”
“Ummm…Actually they are not my friends. Well…They…” I
was not familiar with her, even she just at the class next to me,
so at that time I was too shy to face a ‘stranger’.
She smiled at me and gave me a sign to keep saying. This is the
first time someone approached me without any purpose and was
patient with me. It made me find some courage.
“How to say…They just want to sit near me to copy my
answers. After this exam week, they won't talk to me anymore. I
don't know why they don’t want to be my friends. Maybe it is
because I’m too shy to talk with them. Sometimes I just don’t
know what to say and makes them feel that I always ignore
them…I don’t mean that.”
“Wow. Sorry. How could they be so cruel! You are not an
inaccessible person. I think you are cute…and so smart! You
always get high grades.”
“Haha. But I know that in their perspective I am an indifferent
person, making them felt so boring. No one likes me. Never
mind, I got used to it.”
“No. Shiyu. Don’t be so negative. I could be your friend. And in
the future, we can eat dinner together. I eat dinner by myself,
too. Because I always do some arts after class. It’s too busy at
daytime. You know, I want to be an artist.” She showed me a
rice and vegetable roll in her hand. “I feel you are not a bad
guy. You see. They treat you like that, but you still be willing
to help them. Now, you are not alone anymore.”
I was moved, “Thank you! My friend. Do you want to eat the
roll with me in the art room? I like to do art, too. Just for
interests. Not as professional as you.”
“Sure! Haha, I’m not professional yet.”
……
We walked slowly and talked very enjoyable on the way. This is
the happiest time I have ever experienced during the school-
time.
********
Tuesday
5:50 P.M.
I sat on my seat and played video games. Some of my
classmates rushed to my front again. I knew that was because
they were back from the dining hall and saw their examination
papers on the desk.
“How much score did you got? Where is your examination
paper?” Someone asked eagerly.
“Ummm…I revised it and put it in my bag. I got 39. How about
you?” I said calmly.
“Ahhhh! How could you do that! I only got 29. This exam is too
hard.” Jasmine shook my arm.
“Haha. I sit behind Shiyu I and I saw some answers of her
multiple Choices. I got 34!” CiCi said gladly.
I went to my seat and took out my examination paper. Then
more and more classmates came to me and revised their
examination papers. I let a sigh again.
Suddenly Jasmine looked at me and asked:” How could you
revised it?”
“I helped teacher checked the examination paper, so I knew the
answer.”
“No! Why don’t you tell me! If I know, I will ask you to…”
“Nop. He was near me. If not, I won’t do that either.”
She still wanted to say something and looked a little bit mad,
but Ebit went into my classroom and stood nearing me.
“Let’s go to dinner.” She just held my left arm and pulled me
out of the crowd.
I felt I’m ‘saved’.
“I saw what happened. You should know that sometimes you
could not be so kind. You don’t have to explain that much. They
are trying to cheat and if you do not help them, there is nothing
wrong with you.” She looked a bit angry,” They went too far.”
“Thank you, Ebit. Don’t be so mad. I will be brave next time.”
She smiled at me.” That’s right!”
“And thank you for giving me so much kindness.”

Running Head IMPORTANCE OF HOME ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILD’S LIFE1I.docx

  • 1. Running Head: IMPORTANCE OF HOME ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILD’S LIFE1 IMPORTANCE OF HOME ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILD’S LIFE7 Shiyu Wang Angela Romines 11.17.2019 English 1110: Importance of home environment for a child's life Introduction All in all, having a child grow up in a family environment is very important for the child. The good environment of the family leads to seeking out better relationships, and the child will have better communication skills and social skills. In this way, children will be better prepared for school. The healthy environment of the family helps children to gain success in life. Children learn from their parents and from the family environment. From the family, the child will learn how to survive in society. The first relationship we make with the family will determine other relationships that the child will have. The child will learn to make further relationships. If the family members treat the child with respect and care, then the child will automatically respect others and establish good relationships with others. Explanation The qualities of the child will come from the quality of relationship with its family. Family is also beneficial for the children's self-confidence. Children should be allowed to express themselves on issues they might be facing. Besides, they should also be allowed to state their opinion on some problems in the family. This will make them feel valued and appreciated. They will grow up with confidence and will be responsible adults. They will develop communication skills which are very
  • 2. important in life. People who can communicate well are more likely to be good leaders and are also live happier lives. Growing up in a stable and smooth environment gives the child the ability to fight with difficulties and face the world without worry. A strong connection with the family makes the child friendly and leads to more happiness and comfort in life. In a family, the mother is always more careful about the children. Children will learn the ethics of life from their mothers, and the mother will set the base to learn other aspects of life in children. The mother has more capacity to tolerate the mistakes of children, and she will always forgive the mistakes. The mother will teach the lesson by pointing out the child's mistakes. On the other hand, the reaction of fathers can be sometimes harsh, and they are strict. The strictness is also needed for children in the early days, which does not mean beating the child due to his mistakes. The strictness should be implemented when the company of the children is bad. The family should restrict their children to go out and join the wrong companies. Additionally, the parents should be good role models for the children. This is because children tend to emulate the behavior of their parents. Several studies have been done on parenting, and they have confirmed this. If the parent wants their children to have good morals, they should demonstrate good behavior to them. If parents depict bad morals to their children, then this is what the children will copy. Children who have good manners are less likely to be involved in issues of indiscipline when they join the school. The importance of families and the home environment is an article written by the author Angelica Bonci. The author of the article explains the importance of the home environment in children's life. She states that the parent's involvement in their child's life will positively affect the children's academic performance, and care of the family will make them stronger to mark good names in their professions. The family environment is more crucial than the school environment for achieving
  • 3. success in life for children. The question that arises is what the basic need of the children is. The home environment or school environment? Children need the environment of their home more than the school environment because children learn the ethics of life from the parents, which leads to good behavior in schools and professions. The parents should be supportive, and they must learn to love their children and correct their mistakes to maintain a good family environment for them. Family involvement at school Symons found that family involvement at school is the most significant factor in the success of children at schools. The mothers who are more educated will involve more with the school. She will ask the performance of the child daily. Research proves that families who involved more at school lead to better performance of children at every phase of the study. Parental education skills and attitudes Parental education skills and attitudes matter a lot in their children's life. If the parents are educated, then the child will learn the basic needs of life quickly. Educated parents always give instructions to their child and maintain a comfortable environment for the child. Parent's level of education correlates with the development of the child from age 12 to age 27. And reports said educated parents provide a better environment to the child than parents who are not educated. Educated parents' guide the children to pick their ambition in life. Parent's attitudes and aspirations play an essential role in the development of the child, and it will lead to achievement in life. Effective parental involvement Before school, the children must be prepared in the home environment to live happily. The parent's involvement is significant. Parents should treat the children politely, and they should develop skills in children at an early age. Parents should make their children start reading books, visiting the library, teaching the alphabet, and numbers. Besides, they should create
  • 4. opportunities for their child's friends to spend time with them in the house. These factors are associated with high performance and scores of children. They will develop behavioral senses at an early age. Family life A proper family environment leads to the successful career of the child. When children are growing, and they enter college life, parents should never impose unnecessary preventions. The parents must give them space to learn the most crucial phase of life. The college phase of the children is very crucial, and, in that stage, unnecessary strictness leads to poor results. Never try to stop children from hanging out and playing with friends. However, you can keep an eye on their activities. According to an article by Rev. Saude, a cross-sectional study comprising of 350 children aged 17 to 42 was carried out in central areas of Brazil in 1999. Each asked the socio-economic questions of the children. The questionnaire process is considered for the home observation for measurement of environment scale. The results were positive, which shows that the children who lived with an educated mother had a more suitable environment, and they learned the early lesson of life from the mothers. Children who don't spend the early years with the family are not well maintained according to the interviews and questionnaires. It was found that 94 percent of children with positive habits developed them by living with their mothers. And the attitude of an educated mother is critical. Also, those children who spend early years with their families are more likely to feel loved. This is because of the bonding that occurred between them and their parents. Parents should thus show love to their children so that they can also do the same as parents. A child is more likely to well I their aspects of life when brought up in a loving family. The cognitive performance score was 96.3 for those who were assessed to provide a better environment in home-based schools, and their parents avoid punitive behavior. Conclusion
  • 5. The quality of the stimulation in the family environment is crucial for the children. It develops a strong relationship between children with the family. Personal experience and observations If I talk about my own experience, the environment given by my family is pretty cool. I learned the ethics of my life in the early days. My parents always tried to focus on my abilities. Sometimes the experience can also be bad when you see the fights in the family. Parents often fight with each other which is the most dangerous picture to provide to a child. My parents always tried to avoid the fights. The environment I got was very impactful and I was loved at every stage of life. My parents provided me with everything. They made different plans to go out for a picnic with my siblings. Once a week, the outings are arranged. They taught me to behave well with others and the most important lesson I learned is that if you want to be respected then give respect to others. My personal observations claim that children learn ethics from home and the way they are treated in a home environment leads to abilities to fight the world. I have observed that parents who never impose unnecessary restrictions on children are more successful in providing a good environment for the child. Scientifically it is proved that parents who are harsh and rude will give birth to children who have a harsh attitude. The genes are transferred to the children and child adopts the habits of their parents. So being calm and polite is the best way to provide a suitable environment for the children. Wang 3 By: Shiyu Wang To: Angela Romines Subject: English 1110 Dated:2019/10/20 Introduction This paper is going to analyze two images and the messages that each message depicts. The images I selected are both representing women in general, the beauty of women and that which is expected from a woman. The first can be said that it is targeting women of all ages. It is targeting not only working women but also housewives since it is emphasizing on beauty generally. In the figure, the focus is on the face of the woman. The second one it can be determined that the target audience is not broad this time as compared to the first figure since only housewives are being targeted. From the dress and actions of
  • 7. the woman in the figure, it can be deduced that she is a housewife. Jean Kilbourne and Advertisements Figure 1: (Duke) From the analysis of this figure, it can be said that it is targeting women of all ages. It is targeting not only working women but also housewives since it is emphasizing on beauty generally. In the figure, the focus is on the face of the woman. The expression of the woman is gentle and all of her features are perfect. From her eyebrows to her chin, she appears to be beautiful and there is a specific attractiveness to her that she exhibits. This aligns with the criticism of Jean Kilbourne that media portrays women in such a way that they are made to appear beautiful and it creates the urge for viewers to appear as beautiful and attractive as the women portrayed in advertisements. In this advertisement, although the focus is on women, working women are especially targeted as they tend to care for their work more than their appearance. Working women focus more on their work than on their appearance and in this advertisement, the woman is a soldier. Normally, soldiers are not required to work on their appearance as there is strict discipline in the military but that is what the advertisement is attempting to concentrate on. Even though there is no need to focus on her appearance, the woman looks charming and it will help her in communicating with others in a better manner. In the advertisement, the woman is talking to someone on the phone and in the background, there is another woman in the same uniform giving a message to the solider. It suggests that the woman is probably a messenger and her duty requires her to communicate with soldiers regularly. Since she is beautiful, she would be capable of communicating messages in a friendly and charming manner. It is implying that if a woman needs to interact and communicate with people then it is important for her to ensure that she appears beautiful and her

In the figure, the image of a soldier is effective in influencing the viewers but an important role is also played by the persuasive and eye-catching sentence written right under the picture. The sentence is “Give you skin Ivory care, Doctors advise!” and what makes it persuasive is the fact that it is referencing the suggestion of doctors. People and viewers tend to be attracted to those advertisements in which credible claims and verifiable information is provided. For instance, if an advertisement is about healthy vegetarian food and depicts the impacts of fast-food on our body then people will tend to believe it more than plain advertisements because it delivers information which can be verified from different sources and is normally not provided to the audience. In this advertisement as well, the word “doctors” has a significant impact on the target audience. To increase the positive effect on the audience, instructions have been given below the sentence. These instructions explain what to do while using the soap. Although instructions might not appear to be important in catching the attention of the audience, these instructions are written concisely and persuasively. If a woman looks at the advertisement, she can read the instructions to know more about the product before purchasing it. Overall, it can be said that this advertisement is quite effective in targeting the audience. It might not have been as much effective as it is without the use of credible information. The fact that it is using “doctor” in the sentence has increased its degree of persuasiveness. If this advertisement is analyzed while keeping the criticism of Kilbourne in mind, it can be observed that the focus is on an exceptionally charming woman. Following Kilbourne, media portrays a woman in a specific way that they are beautiful and even their bodies are portrayed to be perfect. In this advertisement as well, the woman is above the normal standards and due to it, the viewers will feel the need to appear as much as attractive as the woman who is focused upon in the advertisement.
  • 9. . Figure 2: (Duke) From the analysis of the second figure, it can be determined that the target audience is not broad this time as compared to the first figure since only housewives are being targeted. From the dress and actions of the woman in the figure, it can be deduced that she is a housewife. Similar to the first figure, the woman in this advertisement is also acting. She is attempting to preserve the leftovers of bread and upon reading the main sentence of the advertisement, it can be determined that the action of the woman is perfectly aligned with what the theme is. In the advertisement, the woman is charming and attractive. She is portraying how women used to be in the past in movies. Traditionally, housewives were made to appear similar to how the woman appears in the advertisement. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that she is the epitome of how men would imagine housewives to be. In this figure, there is nothing in the background besides the woman herself who is saving the leftovers. The woman is smiling brightly as if she knows that she is doing the right thing by preserving the bread leftovers. The message is quite effective in gaining the attention of the audience. What makes it effective is that the main idea is written in a bold and large font. "Don't Waste Food" is written in red right beside the woman as if both of them are made to gain equal attention from the audience. Another element that makes it effective is the word "government" written above it. The use of this term serves to add value to the main message and it increases the strength of the message. Right below the picture, instructions have been written similar to the first figure. In both of the figures, instructions have been written but if they are compared with each other, it can be said that instructions in the first figure are more attractive and easy to read. In the first figure, there are small
  • 10. pictures that provide visualization to the instructions. However, it is not the same as the second figure. There are no visualizations provided to the instructions. Although there is a picture of the product, it doesn't offer necessary imagery to the instructions which makes it more attractive to read. However, this is the only issue and there is no other flaw in the advertisement. There are two elements on which the second figure is focusing. These elements include preserving the bread leftovers and being beautiful. If a woman looks at the figure then her attention will go first at the beautiful woman. The very first impression would be that the woman who is a housewife, is quite beautiful. The viewer would appreciate her attractiveness and in some cases, would also envy how she appears. After looking at the woman for a short while, the viewer than would look at the message which is given beside the woman. After reading the message, the viewer would read the instructions. The impression of both the woman and the message would be quite strong on the viewer. Generally, the criticism of Kilbourne can be applied to this advertisement as well. Following her, the media portrays women in a particular way which creates a picture in the minds of viewers and they compare it with actual women. For instance, the media portrays women as attractive and slim. It causes female viewers to think about how they appear and what should they do about it. In this figure, the woman is a housewife and she is quite attractive. It is not only advertising the product but also the beauty that every woman must possess (Foundation). Conclusion Overall, it can be said that the advertisements are effective in persuading the viewers in purchasing the product being advertised. What makes it persuasive is the use of credible information in the advertisement. For the first image, it can also be said that the criticism of Kilbourne applies to this advertisement because the woman is made to appear beautiful as to persuade the audience to also look like she can be said that
  • 11. this advertisement is effective in delivering its message and promoting the product. For the second figure, the only flaw this advertisement has is that instructions don't have visual support as compared to the first figure which makes it quite difficult to read them and obtain information. Both the first figure and second figure are advertising not only products but also implying that women must be beautiful. In the first advertisement, the soldier is attractive and she is smiling while the housewife in the second advertisement is also very beautiful and she is also smiling. Both of the advertisements portray positive outlooks of women and Kilbourne's criticism can be applied to both of these advertisements as they are shaping the appearance of women in a specific way to their benefit. Jean Kilbourne. 2010. Exam week It is a story happened when I was in my high school. Sunday 11:48 A.M. I was in my mother’s car that she drove me to the school. I looked at those trees and a big lake outside the window of the car. Yes, my school is a little bit far away to my home and it locates at a scenic spot called Dongqian Lake Tourist Resort. When I saw a huge rock which wrote my school’s name, I know I arrived. I got out of the car after my mother parked it to a parking lot. “A new week starts. I wish you would do a good job again Shiyu.” My mother also got out of the car right after me and gave me a hug. “I will, mom. Bye-bye.” I dragged my suitcase and waved my

I knew it is because this week is an exam week and there will be a math exam in 1 hour. I opened the door. “So noisy…”. I shook my head. Some people found me arrived, and they rushed to my front. “OMG You finally arrived. I am too impatient to wait to ask you some math questions. We struggle with those problems of a long time.” One of my friend CiCi said. “Quick!!” Jasmine is anxious. I was muddled,” Ummm…Let me put off my bag first” Then I helped lots of my classmates and reviewed by myself. 12:55 P.M. “Shiiiiyuuuu! The exam will start in 5 minutes, but my brain stop working and completely blank. Can I sit next to you?” CiCi blinked to me. “Sure, but it is not good to cheat huh.” I smiled and took some pens out of my pencil case. She looked very happy and ignored what I said after ‘Sure’ “I will get a good grade!” She said. I shake my head. Other classmates almost fell over each other with offers of hospitality to me to exchange the chance to have the seat which surrounds me. 2:00 P.M. I finished the exam and went back to the classroom early and started eating some snacks. 2:30 P.M. “Ring~~”, the bell rings and the math exam is over. People gradually came back. A lot of people rushed to me again and asked the answer I wrote. People who got same as me laughed and others looked upset.
  • 13. Jasmine asked me three problems, but none of her answers were same as mine. “Ahhhh! I’m dead.” I scratched my head, “Umm…Maybe you are correct. My answers won’t be always correct.” “But we all know your math is so great!” “Haha. We all think you are the answer sheet. ” Someone joked me. “Well…” “Fine…Don’t be so upset. There must be some miracles.” She muttered and went back to her seat. ******** 5:20 P.M. The end of today’s last class. “Dinner!!!I’m coming!” Some boys shouted. I sat on my seat and looked at people went dinner or dorm with their friends. I was ‘famous’ before and right after the exam, but they were not my friends. They thought I can help them to get good grades, so they approached to me. “That’s all. I got used to be alone and I don’t need friends.” I let out a sigh. There were too many people at the dinning hall at that time, so I decided to play video games for a while first. I opened my computer and click on the icon of ‘league of legend’. “What are you doing here? Why don’t you go to dinner?” It’s our math teacher. He came in quietly and scared me. I quickly closed the window of the game and said,” It’s too crowded now. I just wait for a moment here. What happened?” “True. Well, I left my book.” He picked up the book on the platform, “By the way, could you help me check those examination papers? That’s too much and I have something important to do tonight. You are good at math. If you can help me, I will feel easier.” “Sure.” I stood up and followed him back to his office. He already checked some examination papers, including mine. I realized that’s why he did not eat dinner either——he was in hurry to check those examination papers. I looked at my
  • 14. examination paper. The maximum score is 42 and I got 39. It’s enough for me, because I know this exam is not easy. He offered half of the examination papers to me and gave me the answer sheet. “If you have questions just ask me, I believe you can do well.” I nodded my head and started checking. 6:10 P.M. I helped the math teacher check all those examination papers, then I incidentally knew everyone’s grade. Not surprisingly, my grade is the highest. I went to the dining hall and bought a rice and vegetable roll, because I thought It’s too embarrassed to eat at the dining hall alone. Suddenly, someone slightly hit my right shoulder. “Hey. You always went to the dinning hall alone. Why?” It’s a girl called Ebit. She is a student from a class next to me. “Well…” I was speechless. “You have lots of friends, right? I saw everyone surrounded you when I walked through your classroom. Why don’t you eat dinner with them?” “Ummm…Actually they are not my friends. Well…They…” I was not familiar with her, even she just at the class next to me, so at that time I was too shy to face a ‘stranger’. She smiled at me and gave me a sign to keep saying. This is the first time someone approached me without any purpose and was patient with me. It made me find some courage. “How to say…They just want to sit near me to copy my answers. After this exam week, they won't talk to me anymore. I don't know why they don’t want to be my friends. Maybe it is because I’m too shy to talk with them. Sometimes I just don’t know what to say and makes them feel that I always ignore them…I don’t mean that.” “Wow. Sorry. How could they be so cruel! You are not an inaccessible person. I think you are cute…and so smart! You always get high grades.” “Haha. But I know that in their perspective I am an indifferent person, making them felt so boring. No one likes me. Never
  • 15. mind, I got used to it.” “No. Shiyu. Don’t be so negative. I could be your friend. And in the future, we can eat dinner together. I eat dinner by myself, too. Because I always do some arts after class. It’s too busy at daytime. You know, I want to be an artist.” She showed me a rice and vegetable roll in her hand. “I feel you are not a bad guy. You see. They treat you like that, but you still be willing to help them. Now, you are not alone anymore.” I was moved, “Thank you! My friend. Do you want to eat the roll with me in the art room? I like to do art, too. Just for interests. Not as professional as you.” “Sure! Haha, I’m not professional yet.” …… We walked slowly and talked very enjoyable on the way. This is the happiest time I have ever experienced during the school- time. ******** Tuesday 5:50 P.M. I sat on my seat and played video games. Some of my classmates rushed to my front again. I knew that was because they were back from the dining hall and saw their examination papers on the desk. “How much score did you got? Where is your examination paper?” Someone asked eagerly. “Ummm…I revised it and put it in my bag. I got 39. How about you?” I said calmly. “Ahhhh! How could you do that! I only got 29. This exam is too hard.” Jasmine shook my arm. “Haha. I sit behind Shiyu I and I saw some answers of her multiple Choices. I got 34!” CiCi said gladly. I went to my seat and took out my examination paper. Then more and more classmates came to me and revised their examination papers. I let a sigh again. Suddenly Jasmine looked at me and asked:” How could you revised it?”
  • 16. “I helped teacher checked the examination paper, so I knew the answer.” “No! Why don’t you tell me! If I know, I will ask you to…” “Nop. He was near me. If not, I won’t do that either.” She still wanted to say something and looked a little bit mad, but Ebit went into my classroom and stood nearing me. “Let’s go to dinner.” She just held my left arm and pulled me out of the crowd. I felt I’m ‘saved’. “I saw what happened. You should know that sometimes you could not be so kind. You don’t have to explain that much. They are trying to cheat and if you do not help them, there is nothing wrong with you.” She looked a bit angry,” They went too far.” “Thank you, Ebit. Don’t be so mad. I will be brave next time.” She smiled at me.” That’s right!” “And thank you for giving me so much kindness.”
