Energy Resource Challenges
In the video, the three types of energy are wind energy, solar power, and alternative fuel.
Wind energy is generated by wind turbines. Solar power is generated by the sun with panels.
Alternative fuel is made out of many different kinds of foods like corn, grans, sugars, and even
regular wood chips. The challenge of using wind turbines is the possibility of lack of strong
winds over a great period of time. Managing the turbines would not be difficult. The challenge
of solar power would be the even great possibility of their being not enough sun over a period of
time. Managing the panels would not be difficult. The challenge of alternative food fuel would
have to be that the fuel is not strong enough to power cars. Now, managing the food to be made
into fuel might be a little more difficult. The video says that they use corn silk to produce that
certain type of fuel and the farmers would have to collect that off the ground after harvest.
One source not in the video was hydropower. It is currently the source of ten percent of
our nation’s electricity. Although the flowing water does not release any pollution, it is not very
cost effective and the stations take a long time to build. (N.A., 2012)
“Non-renewable energy resources include coal, oil, and natural gas.” The problem is
obvious though, these resources will not be around forever and we need to start finding a
solution to an alternative now.
One common challenge of managing non-renewable resources is controlling the pollution
that all of them give off. Another is making sure the environment that it is in does not get
harmed. Lastly, making sure they are cost effective makes a big difference.
