Texas has some of the worst air quality in the country due to emissions from oil refineries and vehicles. Two proposed solutions are to enforce clean air laws on refineries like ExxonMobil, which broke laws over 4,000 times, and require vehicles to use after-market emissions devices like the H2Hypod, which converts vehicles into hybrids to reduce emissions by up to 30%. Stricter regulations on refineries and commercial fleets could improve air quality and public health in Texas.

Friends of the UNB Woodlot made a presentation to the Public Safety and Environment Committee on April 06, 2012 this week.
Shale gas is an issue for Fredericton residents. It is an issue with the parents of children with asthma. It is an issue for a growing number of residents who read the health reports now coming out about the certainty of air pollution from shale gas operations, especially for residents living in a low-lying valley such as Fredericton. And it is an issue with the family physicians of New Brunswick who recently called on the Province for a moratorium.
We now know that the danger of air pollution is equal to the danger of water pollution. Unless you cover our city in a dome, air pollution from shale gas development that impact human health is a certainty. Known carcinogens & asthma-causing smog from shale gas wells, compressor stations, and pipelines will travel downwind over long distances and settle in low-lying valleys such as Fredericton.
Our presentation to City Council on April 10, 2012 stressed at the very beginning that our health concerns were about the shale gas development areas that surround Fredericton. The message to City Council was that with a formal ban using our zoning by-law, Fredericton City Council could push for a similar move by the Province. Fredericton has a Municipal Plan in place, and under the Community Planning Act of New Brunswick, our city has the right to make a zoning by-law or amendment against any high-impact industrial activity such as shale gas operations.
We are disappointed that our present Mayor and Council refused to take a leadership role in asking the Province for a ban or moratorium on shale gas. Our present Mayor and Council are pro-shale gas and our city is surrounded by shale gas exploration areas 10+kilometres in all directions.
In order to impose a ban on shale gas, we first need to reverse the vote already taken by the City of Fredericton. The public has been deliberately misled that the City of Fredericton has not taken a formal stand on shale gas. In fact, Fredericton voted against the shale gas moratorium resolution at the Union of the Municipalities of New Brunswick meeting last September 2011, a meeting attended by Mayor Brad Woodside and Councillor Stephen Chase. This resolution was put forward by the Town of Sackville for the Union to lobby the Province for a moratorium on shale gas but the resolution was narrowly defeated 22-to-18.
Air Pollution makes you sick and can kill you. Tackling it will require action on many fronts and will not be easy. Yet, we are hopeful that it can be done.

Characterization and the Kinetics of drying at the drying oven and with micro...Open Access Research Paper
The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.

UNDERSTANDING WHAT GREEN WASHING IS!.pdfJulietMogola
Many companies today use green washing to lure the public into thinking they are conserving the environment but in real sense they are doing more harm. There have been such several cases from very big companies here in Kenya and also globally. This ranges from various sectors from manufacturing and goes to consumer products. Educating people on greenwashing will enable people to make better choices based on their analysis and not on what they see on marketing sites.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
1. Cleaning Up
Texas Air

PROFESSOR JOHN ROOU
2. “The majority of air toxics come
from manmade sources, such as
factory smokestack emissions and
motor vehicle exhaust.”
- Environmental Protection Agency, 2012
3. Texas air quality is some of the worst in the country. In their
2014 State of the Air report, American Lung Association ranked
Houston-The Woodlands 6th and Dallas-Fort Worth 8th out of
277 metropolitan areas in the country for the worst ozone
pollution. We are the biggest carbon dioxide producer and we
also fail to meet standards set by the EPA for annual particle
pollution.
ExxonMobil in Baytown, Texas
Largest oil refinery and chemical plant in America and broke
clean air laws more than 4,000 times in 5 years.
Downtown Houston, Texas
Our two main issues are
refinery pollution and
vehicle emissions, but Texas
is not doing enough about
them. The following are
some feasible solutions.
4. Solution 1:
Enforcing the Clean Air Act on oil refineries
“Federal regulations thus need to be updated to take into account the current
state of knowledge on how industrial flares work in practice, and on how they
can be operated far more efficiently than they are. You also need to set a hard
cap on flaring to ban routine emissions.”
“Stationary monitors are few and far between, and they are simply not capable
of reliably detecting plumes of pollution from relatively short-lived upset
events or from specific point sources of emissions. Only fence line monitors
can reliably do that.”
“Only stricter federal emission requirements will force companies like Exxon to
prioritize pollution reduction over profits.”
– Luke Metzger, Environment Texas
5. Costs
The only costs of implementing
this strategy is the time that it
takes to file the lawsuits and go
through extensive litigation with
each refinery. Since the ultimate
goal is to update federal
regulations for refinery pollution,
these costs should only be
temporary.
Lyondell Basell in La Porte, Texas
6. Benefits
• The new standards will cut oil refinery emissions up to 98% and
remove 5,600 tons of harmful chemicals from our Texas air each
year and 33,000 tons of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
• In reducing their toxic emissions, refineries would be improving
the overall public health of the surrounding communities.
• Incorporating the new standards, including the addition of
numerous fence-line monitors, will create new jobs for the
community.
• Toxic emissions, such as benzene, toluene and xylene, would be
reduced by approximately 1,800 tons.
7. Solution 2:
H2Hypod, an after-market vehicle emissions control device
Click here to learn more about the H2Hypod
If these devices were a
requirement for
commercial fleets, or
even just a temporary
option of EPA
compliance and second
only to true hybrid
vehicles, we could cut
greenhouse gases and
reduce some of our
dependence on oil.
8. H2Hypod
How it works
The H2Hypod transforms any type of regular
vehicle into a hybrid by splitting distilled
water into hydrogen and oxygen (H2O2) by
electrolysis.
H2Hypod is connected to the air intake and
the electrical system to inject the H2O2 just
before the air filter where it combines with
incoming air and fuel mixture flowing into
the engine.
9. Costs
Implementing the H2Hypod
Even though the devices come with a decent price for what they are worth,
their use is only voluntary for the general public.
The main cost of implementing a requirement for such a device for our
commercial Texas drivers would be the work that goes into convincing
state agencies of their worth. This includes the time needed for testing,
analyses, and reports.
The EPA and other state environment groups, such as Environment Texas,
could push for emission control devices to be required by law for vehicles,
just as they do for refineries.
12. Benefits
• More miles to the gallon
• Less fuel consumption and reduced fuel costs
• More efficient fuel burning lowers emissions up to 30%
• Streamlined combustion creates a cleaner engine so it runs smoother
• Reduces “disruptive harmonics to chassis and operator”
• Produces better torque
• H2Hypod has different models for every type of vehicle ranging from small
engines, such as motorcycles and generators, to farm equipment and semi
trucks
Click here for fuel economy test results, engine performance test results, and testimonials.
13. With both of these solutions in place, the state of
Texas could see tremendous improvements in its air
quality in just a short period of time.

Environmental Texas is actively seeking enforcement on oil refineries under the Texas Clean Air Project, which has already cleaned up Shell Oil in Deer Park, Texas in 2009 and ChevronPhillips chemical plant in Baytown, Texas. The past litigations have proven that emissions can be cut extensively, therefore, their current lawsuit is with ExxonMobil also in Baytown, Texas (Metzger, 2014).
