This report summarizes energy trends in Ireland from 1990-2013. It finds that while the economy grew slightly in 2013, overall energy use fell by 1.2% and energy-related carbon emissions dropped by 3.4%, continuing a trend of decoupling economic growth from energy consumption. Electricity generation from natural gas and coal declined while renewables increased their share. Residential energy use decreased by 13% since 2006 despite a rising number of homes and greater average size. However, import dependency for energy rose to 89% and costs of imports increased to €6.7 billion. The report reviews progress toward renewable targets and provides data on electricity and fuel prices for businesses and households.
