A Room with a View
• Pick a room that works best for you as an office
• Take advantage of solar gain in the winter
• Use blinds in the summer to avoid overheating
• Take advantage of natural light
• Calendar reminder - Turn lights off when it gets
brighter

• Save energy and your battery, switch off
• Check your computer power saving options
• Sleep
• Hibernate
• Shut down
• Check your screen power saving options
• Screen brightness
• Screensavers do not save any energy

Hold the Press
• Before you print
• Optimise layout – font/margins/space/images/layout
• Black & white is more economical and saves energy
• Use double-sided printing where possible
• Turn off the printer if not being used
• Put the printer within easy reach
Standby to Switch off
• Switch off all equipment when not in use
• Remote control switch-off
• Master and slave extensions
• WIFI enabled sockets and lamps
• Motion sensors
• Timers
Lighting the way
• Switch lights off when you leave a room
• Use daylight where possible. It is free and more
pleasant than artificial light
• Notice when the day brightens up and switch off
any unnecessary lights
• Use appropriate levels of lighting e.g. half of the
lights, task lighting – desk lamp
• Dimming saves energy
• Energy efficient bulbs - LED
Heating control
• Only heat what you need
• Room thermostat control
• Thermostatic Radiator Control Valves
• Make sure you know how to set the
thermostatic radiator valves (TRV) correctly
• Consider a portable heater

efficiency of the kettles element
• Make a pot - If you like to drink more than one
cup, make a pot and use a Tea Cosy, flask of
coffee
