True disruption in the education system hasn't occurred since the creation of the standard classroom in the Middle Ages. While the scope of public education has grown to include younger children, more fields of study, and cyberspace, the primary methods of pedagogy have not changed. Nor have the issues of accountability, traceability, and practical relevance...
Happy brain chemicals: Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin and EndorphinLoretta Breuning, PhD
Here's a simple introduction to the brain chemicals that make us happy. You can rewire yourself to turn them on in new ways. This simple look at our neurochemistry what turns them on in the state of nature, and why they inevitably droop. Ups and downs are natural, but you can build new circuits to enjoy more ups.
Meet Your Happy Chemicals: Dopamine, Serotonin, Endorphin, OxytocinLoretta Breuning, PhD
We all have "happy habits." We repeat behaviors that triggered our happy chemicals in the past, even without conscious intent. Habits have power because brain chemicals pave neural pathways. Our brain expects to feel good by doing things that felt good before. Unfortunately, good things have side effects. We can end up feeling bad despite our efforts to feel good. Fortunately, we can rewire ourselves to replace an unwanted habit with a healthier habit. Here is a simple plan for choosing a new habit and repeating it until it feels natural. You can stimulate more happy chemicals with fewer side effects. It's not easy, but you can do it in 45 days it you commit.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (acth): a forgotten tool in the treatment of prot...Apollo Hospitals
Any new treatment option in proteinuric nephropathies is faced with several challenges namely doubtful efficacy, unfavourable side effects and prohibitive cost. In 1950s and 1960s, ACTH was widely used for the treatment of childhood nephrotic syndrome. With the availability of “better” therapeutic options, ACTH was dumped into oblivion. Recently there has been a renewed interest in ACTH. After the discovery of melanocortin receptors (MCRs), it is now known, these receptors are widely distributed in various organs including the kidneys. ACTH remains the preferred agonist of all the MCRs. Either through steroidogenesis, or other mechanism like immunomodulation, ACTH exerts its action in the MCRs kidneys to reduce proteinuria in proteinuric nephropathies. Both preclinical and clinical evidences are accumulating which speak in favour of a potential therapeutic role of ACTH in these disorders. ACTH might also be useful in inducing remission in steroid-resistant nephropathies, like immune-complex mediated glomerular diseases and podocytopathies. Large multicentre studies with ACTH are to be initiated, before a definite conclusion can be arrived at.
A major organ of the endocrine system, the anterior pituitary (also called the adenohypophysis or pars anterior), is the glandular, anterior lobe that together with the posterior lobe (posterior pituitary, or the neurohypophysis) makes up the pituitary gland (hypophysis). The anterior pituitary regulates several physiological processes including stress, growth, reproduction and lactation. Proper functioning of the anterior pituitary and of the organs it regulates can often be ascertained via blood tests that measure hormone levels.
The anterior pituitary contains five types of endocrine cell, and they are defined by the hormones they secrete: somatotropes (GH); prolactins (PRL); gonadotropes (LH and FSH); corticotropes (ACTH) and thyrotropes (TSH)

This session offers practical and strategic tools to help bridge the “Skills Gap” that students coming out of college face today as well as tools which help engage everyone’s participation in improving employment outcomes for your Graduates.
Description (paragraph form)
With an increased pressure on Institutions of Higher Learning to substantiate their course offerings with respect to employability; now more than ever, programs designed to specifically address soft-skills are the only viable way to prepare the student and close the “skills gap” that exists in the job market today.
More and more recent college graduates struggle to gain entry into their field due to what employers claim is a lack of hands on experience, professionalism and business acumen in students coming directly out of college.
Join highly-rated speaker Ann Cross for this interactive and engaging presentation about the benefits of incorporating soft-skills training through experiential learning into the student experience. For those who already have soft-skills training as part of your course offerings, this workshop will share some of the best practices from around the country.
The Sparrow Group has visited dozens of campuses in the last five years, and has seen what works, as well as the common mistakes and missed opportunities. This is not a theoretical workshop, but rather a workshop that focuses on practical, tactical programs that you can implement immediately. You’ll hear stories of success, see data that supports outcomes, and leave with tools that you can take back to the campus and use to improve employment outcomes.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
