“I am getting in the way of people at work”
Asked friends who are already working, for tips
People here are better than me at work
I am not cut out for the Corporate world
I really did not learn anything in school
I am a stupid person
How come sis managed to do so well at work?
I’ll get fired from my first job!
Everybody is looking at me in a funny way
I’ll probably do something really
stupid and everyone is going to know
Insecure
Lonely
Fearful
Usure
Feel Dumb
Outcast
Different (I am weird)
Overwhelmed
Anxious
ALONE
Am not very proactive at work, hoping they will
leave me alone!
Told me boyfriend to call me every 2 hours.
Messaged my Dad, telling him I need help
Tried to meet the HR, but she was too busy
Sent an email to my boss, to let him know I was around!
I pretend to be very busy reading up!
“I do not know what is expected of me”
“I am taking up space at office”
“I am probably asking stupid questions ”
“I am getting in the way of busy people ”
“Why am I the only one feeling this way? ”
“Even the interns seem more capable”
“My boss is too busy”
“My boss doesn’t really care”
“Why isn’t HR checking on me?”
“I need someone to talk to”
Transitioning from
school-to-work
K, feels like she is useless at a
‘corporate job’and feels she is going
to get fired within the month.
feel empowered and
learn on the job, without the
pressure to‘perform’from day 1
Everybody feels the same way at
their job! Almost no exceptions!..
And everybody eventually learns.
Everybody feels the pressure to
“impress”starting day 1. Its a
universal pressure.
People want to be able to ask
“silly / obvious”questions anonymously
without feeling threatened.
People seek a systematic,
transitionary program, since even
adults need assurance and help
All newbies obviously feel that they
are the only ones struggling with this
issue. That myth needs to be dispelled.
There needs to be some alternative
physical space apart from cubicals
for freshers
