Presentation from Salesforce.org Higher Ed Summit 2017 by: Steve diFilipo from the University of Texas System (UTx) "Springboarding off the Clayton Christensen definition of ?disruptive innovation,? this session will focus on the role of an academic CIO in a non-traditional or disruptive role. We will share examples from the University of Texas System?s development of the TEx platform, where new and innovative technologies have been required to accommodate the platform design requirements. From platform integrations to data ETL to implementing solutions to replace the LMS to developing digital credentialing possibilities. A CIO can face unique challenges when reimagining the student experience with new technologies like blockchain and Microsoft?s suite of integrated office products and vetting unproven solutions like the Lingk data middleware platform. With these scenarios, the Salesforce team can be a strategic partner for a CIO, guiding the technology vision and implementing the plan. Assuming the role of maverick tasked with innovation structured within the hierarchy of a university system and partnering with campus leaders requires a certain set of characteristics that redefine the higher ed CIO into the role of a non-traditional CIO."
