In this paper a new efficient interleaving methodology in which patient textual information is embedded in medical images considering Magnetic Resonance Image, Ultrasonic image and CT images of that patient body. The main disadvantages in traditional techniques to Embed patient information in medical images is inability to withstand attacks and Bit Error Rate (BER) when maximum number of characters to be embedded are absent in proposed algorithm. The New robust Embedding Techniques, Local Binary Pattern (LBP) and Local Ternary Pattern (LTP) are used to embed the patient information in medical images. LBP Technique is mainly used to provide the security for the patient information. Along with the security high volume of patient information can be embedded inside the medical image using LTP technique. Statistical parameters such as Normalized Root Mean Square Error, PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) are used to measure the reliability of the present technique. Experimental results strongly indicate that the present technique with zero BER (Bit Error Rate), higher PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), and high volume of data embedding capacity achieved using LTP as compared with the other data embedding techniques. This technique is found to be robust and watermark information is recoverable without distortion.
Medical Image Fusion Using Discrete Wavelet TransformIJERA Editor
Medical image fusion is the process of registering and combining multiple images from single or multiple imaging modalities to improve the imaging quality and reduce randomness and redundancy in order to increase the clinical applicability of medical images for diagnosis and assessment of medical problems. Multimodal medical image fusion algorithms and devices have shown notable achievements in improving clinical accuracy of decisions based on medical images. The domain where image fusion is readily used nowadays is in medical diagnostics to fuse medical images such as CT (Computed Tomography), MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) and MRA. This paper aims to present a new algorithm to improve the quality of multimodality medical image fusion using Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) approach. Discrete Wavelet transform has been implemented using different fusion techniques including pixel averaging, maximum minimum and minimum maximum methods for medical image fusion. Performance of fusion is calculated on the basis of PSNR, MSE and the total processing time and the results demonstrate the effectiveness of fusion scheme based on wavelet transform.

Currently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been utilized extensively to obtain high contrast medical image due to its safety which can be applied repetitively. To extract important information from an MRI medical images, an efficient image segmentation or edge detection is required. Edges are represented as important contour features in the medical image since they are the boundaries where distinct intensity changes or discontinuities occur. However, in practices, it is found rather difficult to design an edge detector that is capable of finding all the true edges in an image as there is always noise, and the subjectivity of sensitiveness in detecting the edges. Many traditional algorithms have been proposed to detect the edge, such as Canny, Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Zerocross, and Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG). Moreover, many researches have shown the potential of using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for edge detection. Although many algorithms have been conducted on edge detection for medical images, however higher computational cost and subjective image quality could be further improved. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to develop a fast ANN based edge detection algorithm for MRI medical images. First, we developed features based on horizontal, vertical, and diagonal difference. Then, Canny edge detector will be used as the training output. Finally, optimized parameters will be obtained, including number of hidden layers and output threshold. The edge detection image will be analysed its quality subjectively and computational. Results showed that the proposed algorithm provided better image quality while it has faster processing time around three times time compared to other traditional algorithms, such as Sobel and Canny edge detector.

Super-Spatial Structure Prediction Compression of Medicalijeei-iaes
The demand to preserve raw image data for further processing has been increased with the hasty growth of digital technology. In medical industry the images are generally in the form of sequences which are much correlated. These images are very important and hence lossless compression Technique is required to reduce the number of bits to store these image sequences and take less time to transmit over the network The proposed compression method combines Super-Spatial Structure Prediction with inter-frame coding that includes Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation to achieve higher compression ratio. Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation is made with the fast block-matching process Inverse Diamond Search method. To enhance the compression ratio we propose a new scheme Bose, Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem (BCH). Results are compared in terms of compression ratio and Bits per pixel to the prior arts. Experimental results of our proposed algorithm for medical image sequences achieve 30% more reduction than the other state-of-the-art lossless image compression methods.
MULTIPLE CAUSAL WINDOW BASED REVERSIBLE DATA EMBEDDINGijistjournal
Reversible data embedding is a technique that embeds data into an image in a reversible manner. An important aspect of reversible data embedding is to find embedding area in the image and to embed the data into it. In the conventional reversible techniques, the visual quality is not taken into account which resulted in a poor quality of the embedded images. Hence the histogram modification based reversible data hiding technique using multiple causal windows is proposed which predicts the embedding level with the help of the pixel value, edge value, Just Noticeable Difference(JND) value. Using this data embedding level the data is embedded into the pixels. The pixel level adjustment considering the Human Visual System (HVS) characteristics is also made to reduce the distortion caused by data embedding. This significantly improves the data embedding capacity along with greater visual quality. The proposed method includes three phases: (i).Construction of casual window and calculation of edge and JND values in which the casual window determines the pixel values, the edge and the JND values are calculated (ii).Data embedding which is the process of embedding the data into the original image (iii). Data extractor and image recovery where the original image is recovered and the embedded bits are obtained. The experimental results and performance comparison with other reversible data hiding algorithms are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm. The experimental results show that the Performance of the proposed system on an average shows an accuracy of 95%.

Based on the review, recommendations and discussions are presented for algorithm development and implementation.
REVIEW ON TRANSFORM BASED MEDICAL IMAGE COMPRESSION cscpconf
Advance medical imaging requires storage of large quantities of digitized clinical data. Due to
the bandwidth and storage limitations, medical images must be compressed before transmission
and storage. Diagnosis is effective only when compression techniques preserve all the relevant
and important image information needed. There are basically two types of image compression:
lossless and lossy. Lossless coding does not permit high compression ratios where as lossy
achieve high compression ratio. Among the existing lossy compression schemes, transform
coding is one of the most effective strategies. In this paper, a review has been made on the
different compression techniques on medical images based on transforms like Discrete Cosine
Transform(DCT), Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT), Hybrid DCT-DWT and Contourlet
transform. And it has been analyzed that Contourlet transform have superior overall
performance over other transforms in terms of PSNR.

Finally, it describes fuzzy c-means clustering, which is an unsupervised learning technique used to segment and classify pixels in MRI images to detect tumor regions. The goal is to develop an accurate and automated method for brain tumor segmentation to assist medical experts.

Existing Medical imaging techniques such as fMRI, positron emission tomography (PET), dynamic 3D ultrasound and dynamic computerized tomography yield large amounts of four-dimensional sets. 4D medical data sets are the series of volumetric images netted in time, large in size and demand a great of assets for storage and transmission. Here, in this paper, we present a method wherein 3D image is taken and Discrete Wavelet Transform(DWT) and Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform(DTCWT) techniques are applied separately on it and the image is split into sub-bands. The encoding and decoding are done using 3D-SPIHT, at different bit per pixels(bpp). The reconstructed image is synthesized using Inverse DWT technique. The quality of the compressed image has been evaluated using some factors such as Mean Square Error(MSE) and Peak-Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR).
An efficient image compression algorithm using dct biorthogonal wavelet trans...eSAT Journals
Abstract
Recently the digital imaging applications is increasing significantly and it leads the requirement of effective image compression techniques. Image compression removes the redundant information from an image. By using it we can able to store only the necessary information which helps to reduce the transmission bandwidth, transmission time and storage size of image. This paper proposed a new image compression technique using DCT-Biorthogonal Wavelet Transform with arithmetic coding for improvement the visual quality of an image. It is a simple technique for getting better compression results. In this new algorithm firstly Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied and then 2D DCT-Biorthogonal wavelet transform is applied on each block of the low frequency sub band. Finally, split all values from each transformed block and arithmetic coding is applied for image compression.

MICCS: A Novel Framework for Medical Image Compression Using Compressive Sens...IJECEIAES
The vision of some particular applications such as robot-guided remote surgery where the image of a patient body will need to be captured by the smart visual sensor and to be sent on a real-time basis through a network of high bandwidth but yet limited. The particular problem considered for the study is to develop a mechanism of a hybrid approach of compression where the Region-ofInterest (ROI) should be compressed with lossless compression techniques and Non-ROI should be compressed with Compressive Sensing (CS) techniques. So the challenge is gaining equal image quality for both ROI and Non-ROI while overcoming optimized dimension reduction by sparsity into Non-ROI. It is essential to retain acceptable visual quality to Non-ROI compressed region to obtain a better reconstructed image. This step could bridge the trade-off between image quality and traffic load. The study outcomes were compared with traditional hybrid compression methods to find that proposed method achieves better compression performance as compared to conventional hybrid compression techniques on the performances parameters e.g. PSNR, MSE, and Compression Ratio.
Compressed Medical Image Transfer in Frequency DomainCSCJournals
A common approach to the medical image compression algorithm begins by separating the region of interests from the background of the medical images and then lossless and lossy compression schemes are applied on the ROI part and background respectively. The compressed files (ROI and background) are now transmitted through different media of communications (local host, Intranet and Internet) between the server and clients. In this work, a medical image transfer coding scheme based on lossless Haar wavelet transforms method is proposed. At first, the proposed scheme is tested on Intranet (for both RoI and background) in order to compare its results with Internet tests. An adaptive quantization algorithm is used to apply on quasi lossless ROI wavelet coefficients while a uniform quantization is used to apply on lossy background wavelet coefficients. Finally, the retained quantization indices are entropy encoded with an optimal variable coding algorithm. The test results have indicated that the performance of the proposed MITC via Intranet is much better than via Internet in terms of transferring time, while the quality of the reconstructed medical image remains constant despite the medium of communication. For best adopted parameters, a compressed medical image file (760 KB „³ 19.38 KB) is transmitted through Internet (bandwidth= 1024 kbps) with transfer time = 0.156 s while the uncompressed file is sent with transfer time = 6.192 s.
A Comprehensive lossless modified compression in medical application on DICOM...IOSR Journals
ABSTRACT : In current days, Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine (DICOM) is widely used for
viewing medical images from different modalities, distribution and storage. Image processing can be processed
by photographic, optical and electronic means, because digital methods are precise, fast and flexible, image
processing using digital computers are the most common method. Image Processing can extract information,
modify pictures to improves and change their structure (image editing, composition and image compression
etc.). Image compression is the major entities of storage system and communication which is capable of
crippling disadvantages of data transmission and image storage and also capable of reducing the data
redundancy. Medical images are require to stored for future reference of the patients and their hospital findings
hence, the medical image need to undergo the process of compression before storing it. Medical images are
much important in the field of medicine, all these Medical image compression is necessary for huge database
storage in Medical Centre and medical data transfer for the purpose of diagnosis. Presently Discrete cosine
transforms (DCT), Run Length Encoding Lossless compression technique, Wavelet transforms (DWT), are the
most usefully and wider accepted approach for the purpose of compression. On basis of based on discrete
wavelet transform we present a new DICOM based lossless image compression method. In the proposed
method, each DICOM image stored in the data set is compressed on the basis of vertically, horizontally and
diagonally compression. We analyze the results from our study of all the DICOM images in the data set using
two quality measures namely PSNR and RMSE. The performance and comparison was made over each images
stored in the set of data set of DICOM images. This work is presenting the performance comparison between
input images (without compression) and after compression results for each images in the data set using DWT
method. Further the performance of DWT method with HAAR process is compared with 2D-DWT method using
the quality metrics of PSNR & RMSE. The performance of these methods for image compression has been
simulated using MATLAB.

A common goal of the engineering field of signal processing is to reconstruct a signal from a series of sampling measurements. In general, this task is impossible because there is no way to reconstruct a signal during the times
that the signal is not measured. Nevertheless, with prior knowledge or assumptions about the signal, it turns out to
be possible to perfectly reconstruct a signal from a series of measurements. Over time, engineers have improved their understanding of which assumptions are practical and how they can be generalized. An early breakthrough in signal processing was the Nyquist–Shannon sampling theorem. It states that if the signal's highest frequency is less than half of the sampling rate, then the signal can be reconstructed perfectly. The main idea is that with prior knowledge about constraints on the signal’s frequencies, fewer samples are needed to reconstruct the signal. Sparse sampling (also known as, compressive sampling, or compressed sampling) is a signal processing technique for efficiently acquiring and reconstructing a signal, by finding solutions tounder determined linear systems. This is based on the principle that, through optimization, the sparsity of a signal can be exploited to recover it from far fewer samples than required by the Shannon-Nyquist sampling theorem. There are two conditions under which recovery is possible.[1] The first one is sparsity which requires the signal to be sparse in some domain. The second one is incoherence which is applied through the isometric property which is sufficient for sparse signals Possibility
of compressed data acquisition protocols which directly acquire just the important information Sparse sampling (CS) is a fast growing area of research. It neglects the extravagant acquisition process by measuring lesser values to reconstruct the image or signal. Sparse sampling is adopted successfully in various fields of image processing and proved its efficiency. Some of the image processing applications like face recognition, video encoding, Image encryption and reconstruction are presented here.

dFuse: An Optimized Compression Algorithm for DICOM-Format Image ArchiveCSCJournals
Medical images are useful for knowing the details of the human body for health science or remedial reasons. DICOM is structured as a multi-part document in order to facilitate extension of these images. Additionally, DICOM defined information objects are not only for images but also for patients, studies, reports, and other data groupings. More information details in DICOM, resulted in large size, and transferring or communicating these files took lots of time. To solve this, files can be compressed and transferred. Efficient compression solutions are available and they are becoming more critical with the recent intensive growth of data and medical imaging. In order to receive the original and less sized image, we need effective compression algorithm. There are different algorithms for compression such as DCT, Haar, Daubuchies which has its roots in cosine and wavelet transforms. In this paper, we propose a new compression algorithm called “dFuse”. It uses cosine based three dimensional transform to compress the DICOM files. We use the following parameters to check the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, they are i) file size, ii) PSNR, iii) compression percentage and iv) compression ratio. From the experimental results obtained, the proposed algorithm works well for compressing medical images.

The aquaponic system of planting is a method that does not require soil usage. It is a method that only needs water, fish, lava rocks (a substitute for soil), and plants. Aquaponic systems are sustainable and environmentally friendly. Its use not only helps to plant in small spaces but also helps reduce artificial chemical use and minimizes excess water use, as aquaponics consumes 90% less water than soil-based gardening. The study applied a descriptive and experimental design to assess and compare conventional and reconstructed aquaponic methods for reproducing tomatoes. The researchers created an observation checklist to determine the significant factors of the study. The study aims to determine the significant difference between traditional aquaponics and reconstructed aquaponics systems propagating tomatoes in terms of height, weight, girth, and number of fruits. The reconstructed aquaponics system’s higher growth yield results in a much more nourished crop than the traditional aquaponics system. It is superior in its number of fruits, height, weight, and girth measurement. Moreover, the reconstructed aquaponics system is proven to eliminate all the hindrances present in the traditional aquaponics system, which are overcrowding of fish, algae growth, pest problems, contaminated water, and dead fish.

ABSTRACT
In this paper a new efficient interleaving methodology in which patient textual information is embedded in
medical images considering Magnetic Resonance Image, Ultrasonic image and CT images of that patient
body. The main disadvantages in traditional techniques to Embed patient information in medical images is
inability to withstand attacks and Bit Error Rate (BER) when maximum number of characters to be
embedded are absent in proposed algorithm. The New robust Embedding Techniques, Local Binary Pattern
(LBP) and Local Ternary Pattern (LTP) are used to embed the patient information in medical images. LBP
Technique is mainly used to provide the security for the patient information. Along with the security high
volume of patient information can be embedded inside the medical image using LTP technique. Statistical
parameters such as Normalized Root Mean Square Error, PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio) are used to
measure the reliability of the present technique. Experimental results strongly indicate that the present
technique with zero BER (Bit Error Rate), higher PSNR (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio), and high volume of
data embedding capacity achieved using LTP as compared with the other data embedding techniques. This
technique is found to be robust and watermark information is recoverable without distortion.

1 INTRODUCTION
With the rapid development in multimedia and network technologies, transmission of multimedia
data is a daily routine and the security of multimedia data becomes more and more important,
since multimedia data are transmitted over the internet [1-4]. Now a days exchange of patient
information in the form of text between hospitals through internet is common practice.
Presently interleaving of patient information with image deals with two approaches namely
spatial domain and frequency domain. The exhaustive literature survey reveals that spatial
domain approach slightly modifies the image pixels. This spatial domain approach is always
susceptible to undergo degradation of visuality of image after interleaving textual information [6].
Authors found that interleaving technique belongs to digital water marking techniques which
belongs to various transformation techniques such as Fast Fourier Transform, DCT and wavelet

Transform [5]. However frequency domain approach also suffers from draw backs such as scaling
effect.
Digital watermarking is nothing but embedding information inside the object in such a way that
later it can be detected or extracted to make an assertion about the object. In watermarking
techniques the object can be audio [7], video [8, 9, 10], textual [11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16] data, and
black and white textual data [17] called as binary watermark.
Reliable security is necessary to protect the data of digital images and videos. Encryption
schemes for multimedia data need to be specifically design` need to protect multimedia
content and fulfill the security requirements for a particular multimedia application.
In digital watermarking the quality of the watermarked image has to be quantified through some
statistical parameters [18] based on pixel to pixel error measurements like MSE [19] and other
error measurements [20].
According to literature in a 512 x 512 gray scale medical image a maximum of 3400 characters
could be embedded and recovered without any distortion [21]. If we want to embed more number
of characters inside the medical image it results in very low value of PSNR indicating
degradation in embedded image.
Hence authors attempted in this paper to develop a new interleaving technique to embed
maximum text information in medical images at the bit level rather than at the pixel level in order
to trade off the drawbacks of earlier methods. The present paper is organized in four sections.
Section 1 presents introduction with respect to the embedding the information in the images
highlighting the drawbacks. Section 2 presents a detailed methodology adopted by the authors for
interleaving of text in images. Section 3 presents results and discussion through tables and visual
snapshots. Section 4 presents conclusions of present technique to embed text in images and
followed by exhaustive references.
2 METHODOLOGY
This section provided brief description about encrypting and protecting the Patient data
effectively, this encrypted data is passed over to the interleaving procedure which is described in
further section where we deal with interleaving this data pixel by pixel into the image LSB plane.

Fig.1 indicates the abstract level of methodology adopted by the authors in the present paper. The
methods adopted by the authors has been put up in detail in the following sub-sections namely
reading the patient information, Encryption of the text file, Interleaving the encrypted text in
images followed by retrieving the interleaved text file from images.
Medical images used are 8-bit gray scale of JPEG format with different size like 128x128,
108x108, 256x256 etc. Three images were selected from each of the following modalities,
Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Ultrasound Image.
Normally Patient Information contains 1500 to a maximum of 5000 bytes. In present
methodology 100 to 8000 characters each one byte long has been used. 30 images from three
modalities like Ultra Sound, MRI and CT were used. An average value is obtained from the
results obtained on a set of 30 images from each modality.

Figure 2 LBP Code for Text
The method of encryption of the text file has been described in this section. LBP is an operator
that describes the value by generating a bit code from the binary derivatives of a pixel. In order to
provide the security, text file is encrypted using LBP technique and the method is shown in the
figure 2. An LBP code for a character was produced by multiplying the binary values of the text
information with weights given to the corresponding pixels, and summing up the result.

Significant Bit (LSB) plane of the gray scale image bit by bit. Eight bits of each LBP or Five bits
of LTP code thus replace LSBs of consecutive pixels of the image. This cycle of interleaving of
LBP/LTP code in consecutive pixels is repeated to include all the characters in the text file. The
LBP/LTP codes of the encrypted text shown in figure5 (b) are broken into bits and interleaved
into the pixels of desired medical images of the patient.

Using LTP technique we could almost double the number of embedding patient information
inside the medical image.

4. STATISTICAL PARAMETER MEASURE
a. NRMSE
A quantitative assessment between original image and processed image is obtained by evaluating
the normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) using equation 3

Where N = the total number of columns, M is the total number of rows in the image, g(i,j) is the
original pixel intensity, and gw(i,j) is the modified (interleaved) pixel intensity.
b. MSE and PSNR
Peak signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) and Mean Square Error (MSE) are used to measure the quality
of the image. MSE is the cumulative squared error between original image and image with patient
data, whereas PSNR is a measure of the peak error. The mathematical formulae for the two are

PSNR
Where G(x,y) is the original image, G'(x,y) is the approximated version (which is actually the
image with patient information) and M,N are the dimensions of the images. A lower value for
MSE means lesser error, and as seen from the inverse relation between the MSE and PSNR, this
translates to a high value of PSNR. Logically, a higher value of PSNR is good because it means
that the ratio of Signal to Noise is higher. Here, the 'signal' is the original image, and the 'noise' is
the error in reconstruction. Lower MSE (and a high PSNR), you can recognize that it is a better
one.
5. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:
This section presents a detailed results and discussion obtained by the authors in the present work.
The results are presented in the form of tables and snap shots. The measurable statistical
parameters are NRMSE, MSE and PSNR. These are the important quantitative assessment
parameters adopted in the image community to study the quality of interleaved images.
The proposed method is applied on more than 100 different images with different sizes. However
the present paper shows one of them of size 128 * 128.

The snap shots exhibits that the visual quality of image is always guaranteed based on the
histograms obtained before interleaving and after interleaving as shown in Figure 4.The image
quality is not degraded on the account of the fact that the change in the LSB of a pixel changes its
brightness by one part in 256 which is shown in the histogram plot. The text can be interleaved
into LSB of all the pixels in an image. The shape of the histograms signifies that the distribution
of pixels remain same before interleaving and after interleaving. Change in the pixel value
specified in the histogram indicates presence of text data (0 or 1) inside the medical image.

The experiments were carried out in 128 x 128 gray scale medical images. In the proposed
method using LBP we could embed a maximum of 2048 characters in one plane and 3276
characters using LTP technique and recovered without a single distortion. By making use of three
LSB planes maximum of 9828 characters could be embedded using LTP.
According to [21], an improvement in algorithm is recognized by a high PSNR or a lower MSE.
With this, the results of the present method with high PSNR prove that reconstructed image will
match the original image. Similarly, according to the report of [22], a PSNR value in the range
20-40 indicates that the resultant image is a very good match to the original image. In accordance
with this report, the results shown in table (1) to table (3) of the proposed algorithms produce
PSNR values in the range 45dB to 70dB for both LBP and LTP techniques proving that the
proposed algorithms does not degrade the images with the patient information inside the medical
image.
From the table (1) to table (3) it is clear that LTP technique results with a minimum NRMSE and
maximum PSNR for the same number of characters embedded inside the medical image which is
the most requirements for embedding Techniques.
During transmission of embedded image through communication channel, noise could get added
which will cause an effect in retrieval of patient information at the receiver side. To study the
effect of channel noise, Speckle noise is added with the embedded image. The Patient information
was recovered from this image. In the proposed method using LBP and LTP the BER was
observed to be zero and is shown the figure 5 and figure 6.

4. CONCLUSIONS
This paper has presented a technique of interleaving patient information such as textual
information with medical images for efficient storage. The technique is tested for different images
like MRI, CT and Ultrasound. The statistical measures indicate that obtained results are agreeable
and it is concluded that image quality did not degrade after interleaving. From the results it is
clear that LTP technique resulting in high volume of information storage capacity with minimum
NRMSE and High PSNR as compare to the previous methods. Experimental results proved that
the proposed algorithm is efficient in terms of quality and further, the results also proved that
storing watermarks using LBP and LTP provides more robustness to the proposed technique. The
present study considered single value fixed threshold but multi value fixed threshold could be
tried as a future work. This interleaving could also be enhanced as a security means to reach
authenticate persons.
