Elements & Principles of Design
The elements
and principles of
design are the
building blocks
used to create a
workofart.
Elements of Design
The elements form the ‘Vocabulary' ofthedesign
• Space
• Line
• Direction
• Shape
• Form –Silhouette
• Texture
• Color
Space
• Space isthe area provided fora
particular purpose.
• Space refers tothe distancesor
areas around, between or within
components ofapiece.
• There are two types ofspace:
Positive Space
Negative Space.
Line
• Lineis thebasic element that
refers tothecontinuous
movement ofa point alonga
surface, suchas bya pencil
orbrush.
• There are curved,
horizontal, vertical,
diagonal, zigzag, wavy,
parallel, dash,and dotted
lines.
Direction
• The element of direction can have a powerful influence on the mood
ofa painting.
• It is something often overlooked, but making a conscience decision
about the dominant direction in a painting can have a noticeable
effect on theatmosphere of the work.
Form
• Form isanythree
dimensional object. Form
canbemeasured, from
top tobottom (height),
side toside (width), and
from backto front
(depth).
• Itcanbeillustrated or
constructed.
SHAPE
• Ashape isdefined
asan area that
stands outfrom the
space nexttoor
around itduetoa
defined orimplied
boundary, or
because of
differences ofvalue,
color, or texture.
Silhouette
• Contour or outline as shown in a solid black background on white
background.
• Formerly a term widely used to indicate trend in length & general
outline ofgarment for thecoming season.
• Named after a French author and statesmen “Etienine de Silhouette,
who made portraits in black withnobackground
Texture
• Texture is thequality ofan
object which wesense
through touch.
• Texture can also beportrayed
inan image, suggested tothe
eye which can refer toour
memories ofsurfaces we have
touched.
COLOUR
• Color isthe resultoflight
reflecting backfrom an
object tooureyes.
• Thecolor that oureyes
perceive isdetermined by
the pigment oftheobject
itself
Theprinciples ofdesignarerelatedtothearrangementoftheunitsaffecting
cohesionoftheform.Variationswithintheseorganizational principles also affect
thelevelofcomplexitywithintheform.
• Unity
• Repetition
• Rhythm
• Gradation
• Balance Symmetrical, Asymmetrical, Radial
• Contrast & Harmony
PRINCIPLES OF DESIGN
Balance
• Balance isthe concept of
visual equilibrium, and
relates toour physical sense
ofbalance.
• compositions achieve
balance in oneoftwo ways:
symmetrically
asymmetrically
Proportion
• Proportion
refers tothe
relative size
and scale of
the various
elements ina
design.
Rhythm
Rhythm can be
described as timed
movement through
space; an easy,
connected path along
which theeye follows
aregular
arrangement of
motifs.
REPETITION
Repetition with
variation is
interesting,
without variation
repetition can
become
monotonous.
GRADATION
Gradation ofsize and
direction produce linear
perspective. Gradation of
color from warm tocool
and tonefrom dark tolight
produce aerial perspective.
Contrast
• Contrast isthe
juxtaposition ofopposing
elements.
• The major contrastina
painting should belocated
at thecenter ofinterest.
Harmony
Harmony in
painting is the
visually satisfying
effect of combining
similar, related
elements.
Unity
Relating the
design elements to
the idea being
expressed ina
painting reinforces
the principal of
unity.
REPEAT
• Repeat is the
“Repetition” of floral or
geometric print in a fabric
design.
• And Repetition is use
of same form again and
again

History
CASIO's shock-resistant G-SHOCK watch is synonymous with toughness, born from
the developer Mr. Ibe's dream of 'creating a watch that never breaks'.
Collection
The G-Shock Magma Ocean Collection includes two high-end G-Shock models:
The Rangeman GPR-B1000TF-1 and the Frogman GWF-1035F-1.
Inspiration
The color scheme of these watches is inspired by the magma ocean that existed during
the formation of planet Earth. The theme represents returning to the origin and
expresses the intention to continue producing something of value.
Design
The watches feature black bodies and bands representing G-Shock with red, rose gold,
and yellow gold accents
First introduced in 1993, this
latest FROGMAN model
marks the timepiece’s 25th
anniversary with a stylized
frog placed throughout.
To celebrate its 25th
birthday, several Frogman
graphics are placed around
the watch to be discovered,
such as on the front screws,
LCD subdisplay, lower
band, and band keeper.
G-SHOCK GWF-1035F-1 FROGMAN
The model also comes equipped
with the collection’s advanced
diver technology, ISO certified,
which includes Tough Solar,
providing a high-capacity solar-
charging system to withstand
long outdoor excursions. The
watch is also capable of storing
Log Data for up to 10 diving
logs, as well as displaying moon
data, three levels of tide graphs
and multi-band atomic
timekeeping
G-SHOCK GPR-B1000TF-1 RANGEMAN
The World’s First Solar-
Assisted GPS Navigation.
The G-Shock GPR-B1000TF-1 is
based on the GPR-B1000
Rangeman featuring mud resistance,
GPS tracking and time-syncing,
solar-assisted charging, Triple
Sensor, sapphire crystal, and carbon
fiber insert band.
This watch has a dual-
layer resin band with a
red inner layer.
The Rangeman gives
all the outdoors-geared
features , including
low temperature
resistance of -20C/-
40F degrees, Bluetooth
and GPS navigation, a
barometer and
thermometer
The watch uses a ceramic case back to support wireless charging and high-
sensitivity GPS reception. The case back uses a 2.0 mm thick ceramic material,
making the watch shock-resistant and waterproof down to 200 meters.
THANK YOU
