2. STATIC ELECTRICITY
Objects can be neutral or
electrically charged:
Neutral: This is when an object
has the same number of positive
and negative charges.
Electrically charged: This is
when an object has a different
number of positive charges and
negative charges
Static electricity occurs when you
rub objects together. Electrical
charges can be positive or
negative.
3. OBJECTS BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS
ELECTRICTY
Different things occur when two objects with electrical
charges are near each other:
Objects with different electrical charge attract each
other.
Objects with the same electrical charges repel each
other.
4. CONDUCTING AND INSULATING
MATERIALS
Conducting materials:
Electrical charges can
move through them
easily. For example
copper and aluminium
are conducting materials.
Insulating materials:
Electrical charges cannot
move through them. For
example wood, rubber
and plastic are insulating
materials.
5. ELECTRIC CIRCUITS
Electric current is the movement of electrical charges through a
conducting material.
The main parts of an electric circuit are:
Current generator: It creates the energy
Conducting elements or wires: They are metallic materials.
Devices or receivers: They are the objects that convert electric current
into another type of energy.
An electric circuit often has other components:
Switch
Electricity meter
Protection devices or circuit breakers
6. USES OF ELECTRIC
CURRENT
Light, images and sound
Heat
Movement
Communication
7. MAGNE
TS
There are two type of magnets:
Natural: These are minerals, like magnetite
Artifical
Magnets can attract certain metals. They can be natural
or artificial and they have north (N) and south (S)
poles.
8. CHARACTERISTICS OF MAGNETS
You can never separate the poles of a magnet.
When we put two magnets together:
- They repel each other if we put the same poles
together.
- They attract each other if we put different poles
together.
9. THE MAGNET POLES OF THE EARTH
Our planet has a north magnetic pole and a
south magnetic pole. They are very near its
geographic poles.
10. USES OF MAGNETISM
Magnetism has different uses:
Orientation
Magnets
Information storage
Theft control
Identification
