Coalition politics involves parties cooperating to form a common minimum program to contest elections. When such coalitions win elections and form governments, they are coalition governments. Kerala has a history of coalition governments dating back to the 1960s, when most governments that came to power were coalitions. Coalition governments have now become common at both the national and state levels in India. Psephology is the science of predicting election results by analyzing the possibilities and chances of political parties and coalitions. Indian democracy is reinforced by regular elections with universal adult suffrage, freedom to elect governments, and an independent election commission, as well as high political awareness and participation among the people.
