2. To all teachers in Ekiti State: Warm greetings and hearty
congratulations! We also express our profound thanks to our amiable
Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, for following through with his
undertaking to pay teachers the full complement of the 27.5%
Teachers' Pecuniary Allowance, or TPA. So once again, Mr. Governor
has lived up to his cognomen: Ó wí béè, Ó se béè. Dr. Kayode Fayemi
has walked the talk of TPA – as he has on so many other issues.
Now is the time for teachers to engage in some dispassionate
reflections on our rightful place in the emergent politics of Ekiti State.
Teachers cannot afford to be anything than frank. But we all owe a
duty to assess Team JKF with the utmost objectivity.
Here then is our clarion call to Teachers in Ekiti State: Embrace and
support the re-election of the incumbent Governor of the State, Dr.
John Kayode Fayemi in the gubernatorial election come June 21,
2014. Our call is not based on mere sentiments. It is anchored on the
numerous achievements of Team JKF since Dr. Kayode Fayemi
mounted the saddle on October 16, 2010.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Before the inception of Dr. Fayemi's administration, the education
sector in Ekiti was, to put it mildly, in a deplorable state. Ekiti's
educational infrastructure was in shambles and far from conducive to
learning. Teachers and students endured the teaching-learning
process under the constant fear of possible collapse of buildings. A
passionate educationist, Dr. Kayode Fayemi quickly put in place
“Operation Renovate All Schools in Ekiti” (ORASE). This has turned
our schools into modern and pleasant sights to behold. Teachers as
well as students now enjoy a productive teaching – learning process
in an environment that is both safe and aesthetically pleasant.
OUR STUDENTS
The JKF administration has placed our students on the same pedestal
as their counterparts in the international scene by simply
demystifying ICT-based learning in schools. Our school Libraries are

3. now stocked with relevant textbooks. Also provided for are modern
laboratory equipment and instruments, so science is no more the
elusive and abstract subject creating fear in the minds of students.
Distinguished and noble colleagues, do we need to remind ourselves
that JKF ensured that all qualified students sat for West African
Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASCCE) at no cost to
them or their parents? We all know that education is the best legacy
that a father/mother can bequeath to his/her children. Our children
are the future of Ekiti State. As such, no one should believe that we
can play games with their education now and yet build for them the
future they would be proud of.
WE, THE TEACHERS
Governor Kayode Fayemi has kept faith with us teachers on all fronts.
For example, he promised no teacher will lose his/her job under any
guise. As the facts suggest clearly, and contrary to unfounded
rumour, he has provided job security in the education sector.
Under Dr. Kayode Fayemi's watch, teachers in Ekiti State have had
their salary and allowances raised four times in as many years. The
details are as follows:

1. From #9,776.86 to #13,000.00 (salary relativity) on 1 May,
2011

2. From #13,000 relativity to #19,021 (minimum wage) on 1
April, 2012
3. Restoration of 16% out of 27.5% TPA which had earlier given
way to the salary relativity of 33% with a promise to pay up the
balance later.
4. The balance of 11.5 percentage points had not only been
approved. Full payment was effected in May, 2014.
Team JKF's quest to make life more abundant for teachers is not
limited by boundaries. Under a World Bank-assisted project, Ekiti

State has become one of three states in Nigeria that are benefiting
from occupational innovation. The most immediate effect of that
intervention, perhaps, is the introduction and payment of rural and
core subjects allowance to teachers in Ekiti State. This incentive is
novel and unprecedented in the history of the state.
Promotions have been pursued with no less vigour. Not only have
teachers been promoted up to date; inter-cadre has been approved.
Dr. Kayode Fayemi has implemented and upgraded teachers to
Grade Level 17 in the State. He has as well reorganised the status of
degree holders in primary schools. He did not stop at that, he also
rewarded diligence and hard work by giving out four new, branded
vehicles to the best teachers and educational administrators.
Above all, the ghost of Teachers' Development Need Assessment
(TDNA) has been buried. Mr. Governor has announced that TDNA
has been – and stands – cancelled. It will be replaced by seminars,
workshops, training and re-training of teachers in and outside
Nigeria.
THE CALL
JKF has so much more to offer us teachers. But this is possible only if
he continues in office. We all agree with the saying that Rome was
not built in a day. But was Rome eventually built by vagabonds in
power? Absolutely NO! If we support and vote for Dr. Kayode
Fayemi as Governor of Ekiti for a second term, the good work he has
done will sure continue. To deny JKF another chance is to deny
ourselves, our students, their parents and all Ekiti indigenes and
residents alike the stewardship and legacy that Ekiti State rightly
deserves.
Let us all work towards a better Ekiti! Let us all vote for JKF – tested,
trusted and trustworthy still! Ekiti a gbe a ooooooooooo!!!
