EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques, an alternative therapy that aims to balance energy flows in the body. It uses tapping on certain points of the body that relate to concepts in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. The techniques are meant to stimulate and redirect energy along positive channels rather than negative ones in order to soothe and calm emotions. EFT draws on the instinctual human response to use touch to manipulate emotions and thoughts, such as touching the forehead to calm overwhelming thoughts or the chest to slow a racing heart.
