The RBI EFT system allows customers to transfer funds between bank accounts across different bank branches located in cities covered by the EFT system. Funds can be transferred intra-city or inter-city. There are currently 15 cities covered that include over 80 banks and all their branches in those cities. The receiving bank credits the beneficiary's account on the same day if the funds transfer message is received by the cutoff time, allowing same day availability of funds. The process involves the remitting bank transmitting payment details to RBI who routes the information to the receiving bank to credit the beneficiary.
