 Colossians 3-Put on the New Self and Take off the Old
 Old Self- “It is ALL ABOUT ME”
 New Self- “It is ALL ABOUT GOD”
 People who are born again have the new self, they just have to walk in
it
 People who are not born again may have a moral compass but they are
incapable of displaying the fruits of the spirit. They are in bondage to sin
TAKING OFF THE OLD
SELF
 Old nature is crucified with Christ Gal 5:24
 See yourselves as crucified with Christ, the Righteousness of God in
Christ Galatians 2:20 2 Cor 5:17
 Submit fleshly passions to God Romans 6
 “Dying to Yourself”, or dying to your selfish nature. Romans 7
 Mortify the deeds of the body Romans 8
 Deny yourself, take up your cross… Mark 8:34a
PUTTING ON THE NEW
SELF
 Awakening to Righteousness and Sinning NOT 1 Corinthians 15:34
 Walking after the Spirit and NOT the flesh Romans 8:1
 Allowing Jesus to live in YOU…to be your life Colossians 3:1-4
 Put on humility Colossians 3
 Put on the whole armor of God Ephesians 6:12-18
 Allow God to change others through you
 Walking in Humility (Faith-Matt 23:23)
SERVING GOD
 Putting him first
 Trusting his love (relational) Gal 5:6
 Loving him with all mind (strength), soul, and heart Deut 6:5, Reiterated in
Matthew 22:37
 Believing his promises
 Obeying his commandments
 Trusting his word
 When we Serve God, we WILL serve others
SERVING OTHERS
 Love our neighbor as ourselves. Leviticus 19:18, reiterated in Matthew
22:39
 Do unto others as we would want them to do to us, this fulfills the law
and the prophets Matthew 7:12
 Consider others better than yourselves…putting their needs before
yours Phil 2:3-4
 Loving others simply because God first loved us, not expecting
anything in return Luke 6, 1 John 4:19
PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS
 Show Hospitality
 Prefer one another in honor
 Respect One Another
 Do not Quarrel
 Open the Door
 Listen
 Setting Boundaries
 Submission to Authority
 Be Genuinely Interested In Others.
OPERATING IN GRACE
 Forgiving Them
 Loving them even when they do not deserve it
 Loving them for who they are, where they are at
 Advancing God’s kingdom by showing the hope of God
 Living for Jesus and him alone, being full of Jesus
REMEMBER
 We love others because God first us. It is his love that causes us to
love others. Only through knowing God can we really learn to love
others.
 Unless we live a life surrendered to God, we will not be able to
love others
 We are to show others the grace and mercy of God because God
loves us for who we are.
CONCLUSION
 There are plenty of ways you can make a difference for Christ
 It does not have to be speaking in front of millions of people
 Learn to serve one another in the fear of God
 Then help others in their time of need
