This document discusses the concept of serving as defined by Jesus. It notes that Jesus measured greatness by how much one serves others, not by status or power. The document encourages readers to use their spiritual gifts and freedom to serve others out of gratitude, obedience, and compassion. It warns that believers will one day have to account to God for how well they served others with their lives. Therefore, readers are encouraged to commit to serving as it is both a privilege and responsibility.

"Axing the Root of Bitterness" from Hebrews 12:12-15.
I'm convinced that most of us, at one time or another, have had someone that we have fallen out with. There have been times when anger has filled our hearts, & we felt that we would never be able to forgive & forget.
Maybe it was a brother or sister, a parent, someone at school, a business partner, a neighbor, or simply an acquaintance.
I don't know how many times I have had to ask for forgiveness, or that I have been forgiven. But there is nothing that will take the load off, nothing that will help you more, than the burden of bitterness being taken off of your heart. As someone has said, "To forgive is to live."
Jesus teaches us, "To fail to forgive is to block the flow of God's blessings." Jesus said in Matthew 18:35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
When there is harshness, resentment, a spirit of retaliation or bitterness, this attitude becomes a dam, an obstacle to the grace of God so that it just simply cannot flow through our hearts.

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

The world defines greatness in terms of power, possessions, prestige, and position. If
you can demand service from others, you’ve arrived. In our me-first culture, acting like a
servant is not a popular concept. Jesus, however, measured greatness in terms of
service, not status. God determines your greatness by how many people you serve, not
how many people serve you.
(Rick Warren)
Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. (Mark 10:43 - Msg)
It was Christ who handed down to us such gifted leaders . . . so that God’s people will
be thoroughly equipped tominister and build up the body of Christ.
(Ephesians 4:12 – Voice)
MINISTRY = SERVING
Serving Christ and other people in tangible ways
inside and outside of the church.
THE BIBLE SAYS THAT EVERY MEMBER IS A MINISTER!
WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SERVING?
Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the
service of others. Souse your gift well. (1 Peter 4:10 – CEV)
Serving is _____________________________
Serving is _____________________________
Serving is _____________________________
Serving is _____________________________
It’s the same way with the Son of Man. He didn’t come so that others could serve him. He
came to serve and togive his life as a ransom for many people.”
(Mark 10:45 – GW)
2. WHAT SHOULD BE OUR MOTIVATION TO SERVE?
It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t
use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do . . . rather, use your freedom
to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows . . . Love others as you love
yourself. That’s an act of true freedom.
(Galatians 5:13-14 – Msg)

At the end of your life on Earth, you will stand before God, and he is going to evaluate
how well you served others with your life. The Bible says, “Each of us will give a personal
account to God” (Romans 14:12 - NLT) Think about the implications of that. One day
God will compare how much time and energy we spent on ourselves compared with
what we invested in serving others. At that point, all our excuses for self-centeredness
will sound hollow: “I was too busy” or “I had my own goals” or “I was preoccupied with
working, having fun, or preparing for retirement.” To all excuses God will respond, “Sorry,
wrong answer. I created, saved, and called you and commanded you to live a life of
service. What part did you not understand?” We are only fully alive when we’re helping
others. Jesus said, “If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw
away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it
means to really live” (Mark 8:35 - LB) - - Rick Warren
In the Bible, serving is seen as two sides of the same coin:
It is a _____________________________ - it is a _____________________________
