SYSTEM SOFTWARE
• System software consists of programs that control the operations
of the computer and its devices.
• It serves as the interface between the user, the application
software and the hardware.
• Operating System is one type of system software which contains
instructions that coordinate all of the activities of the computer
hardware devices
THE DIFFERENT OPERATING
SYSTEMS
1. Stand-Alone Operating Systems
– a complete operating system
that works on a desktop
computer, notebook, or mobile.
Examples are Microsoft Windows
and Mac OS X.
WINDOWS
• Microsoft Windows is the most
known operating system. Many
versions had been out in the
market to help users perform
computer-based tasks with
more convenience. Windows
used to have Windows Vista,
XP, and Windows 7 versions.
Now, Windows 8 and 10 are
widely used.
MAC OS X
• Only available for
computers which are
manufactured by Apple.
THE DIFFERENT OPERATING
SYSTEMS
2. Embedded Operating Systems –
resides in an internal chip rather
than a hard drive. It is used on
mobile devices and other consumer
electronics. Users can interact and
enjoy a number of applications with
the help of the embedded OS.
3 POPULAR EMBEDDED OS
1. iOS – previously known as iPhone OS.
It is used on the iPad, iPod Touch,
iPhone, and Apple TV. Apple allows
programmers worldwide to design apps
specifically for devices supporting the
OS
3 POPULAR EMBEDDED OS
2. Google Android – this
OS is being used in more
than 20 different types of
mobile devices including
tablet computers.
3 POPULAR EMBEDDED OS
3. Blackberry OS – it was developed by Research in Motion for
Blackberry’s line of smartphones. The decline in sales of
Blackberry was felt in the past years.
EMERGING OS• The emerging OS like that of
Google’s Chrome OS has the
potential to revolutionize
computing. Google Chrome
OS is based on Google
Android which is designed to
work exclusively with web-
based and cloud-based
applications and to run on
Chromebook computers.

• Designed to deliver instruction or aid.
• Tutorial Software
• Drill and Practice Software
• Simulations
• Instructional Games
• Problem Solving Software

these software in the learning
process? Do they help in the
child’s learning? Defend your
answer.
CHAPTER 7
• Why is it important for
teachers to evaluate
educational technology and
software prior to its use,
during its usage and after its
use in class instruction?
