Analytical Paper One Non-US Geopolitical Imaginations
FOR MORE CLASSES VISIT
tutorialoutlet
As we have discussed in class to date, geopolitical images of the
world – although frequently presented as if they come from nowhere
in particular and so reflect everyone‘s understanding of the
geopolitical world – are in fact highly nationally particularistic, with
actors in each state constructing their own geopolitical visions. In
class and in many of our readings this semester, we will be
critically analyzing the US geopolitical visions that inform American
foreign policy and public perceptions of the world. For your first
research paper, you are to choose one or two political leaders from
a country other than the United States, and explore the modern
geopolitical imagination evident in their speeches, statements and
documents. The specifics of this assignment are provided below.
First, select one or two political leaders in a non-US country that you
would like to research. Make sure that foreign policy documents,
reports, and speeches by political elites are available to
you (CAUTION! These are not to be American analyses of the
practical geopolitics of other countries, nor are they to be media or
popular geopolitical sources, but must come directly from official
governmental sources of the country you choose). In addition to hard
copies of official documents, many countries now have English
language versions of this material (i.e., political statements, speeches,
etc.) online. Also, speeches by political leaders at the UN General
Assembly that happen every year can be good sources.
Using these official documents, investigate the geopolitical
imagination present in the practical geopolitical sources you select for
critical analysis. As we did with President
Obama‘s Farewell Address and Donald Trump‘s Inaugural Address,
you should think of the leader(s) you
choose as politicalcartographers painting a geopolitical map of the
world (or a world region) with their speeches.
Use Agnew‘s text, and particularly his four major elements in the
construction of the modern geopolitical imagination, to analyze the
geopoliticalcoding present in the official documents you have
selected.
Paper One should be approximately 5 pages in length (double-
spaced), and is due on March 3 in class.
CAUTIONARY NOTE
This is NOT a foreign policy analysis per se, and you are not being
asked to research US-based writings and analyses of the foreign
policies of other countries (i.e., something you might typically do in a
political science/IR class). Also, you are NOT being asked to act as
traditional geopoliticians in critiquing the foreign policies of other
countries and offering your own ‗better‘ geopolitical vision in their
place. Rather, you are being asked to act as a critical geopolitical
analyst, and to analyze the geopolitical imaginations of one or
two political elites in a non-US country, by decoding their speeches
and documents.

 Select a recent news article about a life event of an individual. It
can be health related, accident related, educational, or even
achievement-oriented. It will be one "slice in the lifespan of that
person." For example, you might select a story of someone who
has achieved a major goal in life after experiencing a
debilitating accident. An example would be Nick Vujicic. Or,
you could choose the story of an individual who may be
suspected of a developmental disorder, and who is involved in
tragedy such as James Holmes. You are encouraged to Google
these individuals and read about their stories for ideas for your
own selection. Write an essay (approximately 150-175 words) in
the space provided in the Assignment Worksheet section on
page three addressing the following questions:
What is happening to this individual? Give a brief summary. What
stage of lifespan developmental stage/age is this person experiencing
(i.e. Infant, child, adolescent, or adult and the chronological age)?
 How might have the "twig" (person) been bent? Select at least
three major developmentalist assumptions such as
nature/nurture, behaviorism, genetic code, sociocultural, or any
other developmental concepts from your textbook and discuss
how these developmental concepts may have contributed to this
person's situation before, during and after the life event featured
in the news article.

ERAU 1 CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION ,INTERVIEWS
AND 2 Case Study, Data Collection, Interviews and Observations 1.
Measurement is the assignment of numbers to characteristics (or
attributes) of
objects according to a pre-specified set of rules. Describe the object
and
characteristics of Syafiq‘s study.
Our textbook states that objects can include persons while
characteristics of objects can
include arousal-seeking tendencies, achievement motivation,
shopping enjoyment, service
quality and more (Bougie & Sekaran, 2013). Based on this
definition, it is safe to conclude that
in this study, the objects are the people and the characteristics are the
tendency, motivation,
service experience; In other words, satisfaction of the end-users that
are visiting the website.
2. The measurement of more abstract and subjective characteristics
(or attributes such for instance the attributes in Syafiq‘s study) is more
difficult than the
measurement of other, more tangible attributes such as weight, length,
gender, age, and
marital status. Why is that?
I believe the reason why measuring more abstract and subjective
characteristics is more difficult
that measuring other tangible attributes is because the participants of
the study can be easily
affected by other sources that would ultimately alter their opinions of
abstract characteristics to
the study, causing their opinions to be immeasurable and the data
being unusable towards the
study. For instance, different interviewers asking the same question
on the same participant
might result in different opinions in the end because of the way the
question is asked. On the
other hand, tangible attributes such as gender, age, and marital status
are of no difficulty for the
participants to answer since it does not require in-depth thinking and
does not require personal
opinions to be given toward a study.
3. Based on a review of the literature Syafiq has developed a table
(Table 1) that should
help him to operationalize the variables of his conceptual model. Use
this table to
discuss the attribute ‗Information Quality‘ in terms of dimensions and
elements. In
other words, which dimensions of ‗Information Quality‘ has Syafiq
found in the
literature and how have these dimensions further been broken into
elements by
researchers who have investigated this issue in the past?
According to the table that Syafiq had designed, all of his variables
had been investigated by
researchers in the past and are well defined. The definition of each
and every variable under
information quality is clear and should be easy for Syafiq‘s
participants to understand. The
survey questions in each variable are precise and clear, which should
be beneficial for Syafiq‘s
participants in the study.
4. Syafiq could decide to use the survey questions he has found in the
literature as a basis
for his questionnaire. Is it, in general, a good or a bad idea to use
existing scales? Why? CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION
,INTERVIEWS AND 3 Existing scales can be convenient, but also
Personally, I believe that it is a bad idea for Syafiq to use this existing
scale as a basis for his
questionnaire. There is an existing possibility that other researchers
have also used this set of
survey questions in their questionnaires and it would be redundant
and the questions are less
specific to what Syafiq wanted to gather information on. Although the
survey questions are
complete, but survey questions designed by Syafiq himself
specifically for his questionnaire in
his study would be more useful and informative. Designing survey
questions himself will also
allow Syafiq to gather data on information that he is interested and
eliminate questions that are of
no value to his study. CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION

Article Critique #1 Assignment
ENG 501
WHAT IS AN ARTICLE CRITIQUE?
An article critique is a specific type of reading response that asks you
to read, analyze and discuss the strengths and
weaknesses of an academic article. Critiques are holistic and examine
both the content of the article and the ways in
which is written before rendering an opinion on the validity or
worthiness of the article. Ultimately, the purpose of the
critique is to determine if the article meets your (personal and
field‐specific) standards of topic selection, evidence, logic
and writing style. THE ASSIGNMENT
You need to carefully and critically read one of the two articles listed
below. You then need to compose a narrative
response of at least 2 pages that
• Briefly (1 paragraph) summarizes the article
Makes a claim about the strength or validity of the author‘s claims,
Supports your claims about the author‘s work with specific evidence
from the article
Makes a supported recommendation about whether someone in your
field should use this article in his/her own
research or writing.
FORMAT
Your critique should be in essay format, using complete sentences and
paragraphs. It should begin with a summary
that identifies the article and author. That should be followed by your
evaluation of the research and writing of the
article, supported by evidence. Finally, you should conclude with a 1
paragraph recommendation, again supported by
evidence, about the use of the article.
Your review should contain direct references (quotes, summaries and
paraphrases) from the article. You need to
correctly cite your summary at the beginning with a signal phrase and
in ‐text citation. All other evidence should be
cited in APA format.
Include a correctly formatted APA‐style References entry at the end
of your paper. (It doesn‘t need to be on its own
page.)

Quarterly Publication Information
The journal Leadership Quarterly is published by Elsevier, in
affiliation with the
International Leadership Association. The senior editor is L. Atwater,
who currently serves in the
Department of Management in the C.T. Bauer College of Business at
University of Houston. The
editor is assisted by seven associate editors who serve in academic
positions worldwide, as well
as an editorial board of over 100 members. The journal is published
quarterly, hence the title. Article Information
Leadership Quarterly consists of articles that present a diversity of
perspectives related to
leadership. Its aim is ―to present scholarly research, theory, and
developmental application from
the diverse fields of inquiry about leadership‖ (Elsevier, 2015a). The
editors welcome
submissions of empirical articles, integrative research reviews,
theoretical pieces, conceptual
papers and point/counterpoint articles. The journal desires to represent
the views of a wide
variety of traditional disciplines, including, but not limited to political
science, economics,
anthropology, psychology, history, as well as interdisciplinary and
applied fields such as
management and organizational behavior. The journal presents an
average of 12 articles in every
issue, with an average article length of 13 pages. Submission
Guidelines
Although the journal does not indicate a standard length of articles
submitted for
consideration, guidelines suggest that submission files may not be
larger than 10 MB and papers
must include essential elements of a scholarly article: abstract,
keywords, introduction, materials
and methods, results, conclusions, and any artwork, tables and
figures. The publisher desires that
American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition be used for
formatting of the manuscript
and references. According to Elsevier‘s policies and ethics regarding
research data, authors are
required to submit a statement of compliance with human and/or
animal subjects protections
board protocol as part of their submission package (Elsevier, 2015b).
The journal does not
specify a particular format to be used to submit articles, although it is
required that the
submission be spell-checked and grammar-checked prior to
submission using a word processing
software, and the full article must be presented in an editable format.
Artwork should be
submitted as separate files no larger than 10 MB each in EPS, PDF,
TIFF or JPG format with
minimum DPI criteria provided for each file type on page 9 of the
Author Information Pack
(Elsevier, 2015a). Journal articles should be submitted for
consideration through Elsevier‘s
online submission portal, the ―Elsevier Editorial System (EES)‖ or its
new system, ―EVISE‖
(Elsevier, 2015c). At present, the journal does not have any open calls
for papers. JOURNAL EXPLORATION LEADERSHIP

MINI-CASE BioCom, Inc.: Part 2, Evaluating a
New Product Line
This mini-case is available in MyFinanceLab.
BioCom, Inc. is weighing a proposal to manufacture and market a
fiber-optic
device that will continuously monitor blood pressure during
cardiovascular
surgery and other medical procedures in which precise, real-time
measurements are critical. The device will continuously transmit
information to a computer via a thin fiber-optic cable and display
measurements on several large monitors in view of operating room
personnel. It will also store the data and display it graphically for
review
during or after procedures. BioCom will market various versions of
the
device, but manufacture all of them in the same facility using the
same
equipment. The versions will have similar markups and cost
structures. If
management decides to bring this device to market, BioCom will stop
selling an earlier, less sophisticated version of the monitor. The
product that
BioCom will discontinue now contributes about $1,650,000 per year
to
operating cash flow, and projected sales are flat. BioCom focuses
exclusively
on cutting-edge applications, so it expects to discontinue the new
monitor
after five years. At that time, it will sell the technology and used
manufacturing equipment to a foreign company for an estimated
$2,400,000.
Cost analysts have collected the following figures and submitted them
to the
treasurer‘s office for additional study and a final decision on whether
to
proceed. You, as assistant to the treasurer, must compute and evaluate
the
basic capital budgeting criteria. The project will initially increase
working
capital by $480,000, which the company will recover at the end of the
project when it sells remaining inventory and collects accounts
receivable.
The analysts are not quite sure if they should include $450,000 that
the
company already spent on research and development for the new
product.
They also disagree about whether the effect of the discontinued
monitor on
the company‘s overall operating cash flows is relevant to the decision
on the
new product line, so you must decide how to deal with these two
items.
Cost of new plant and equipment $24,000,000 Designs and prototypes
$ 450,000 Estimated salvage value of technology and equipment, end
of year 5 $ 2,400,000 First-year sales forecast $16,500,000 Projected
annual rate of sales increases 6% Cost of goods sold 40% of sales
Selling, general, and administrative expenses 5% of sales Annual
fixed cost $600,000 Operating cash flow from current desk sales
$1,650,000 Economic life of the project 5 years Initial change in net
working capital $480,000 Depreciation 5-year MACRS Tax rate 34%
Discount rate = cost of capital 9% QUESTIONS
1. What is the total relevant initial investment for BioCom‘s new
product
line? Would you include the designs and prototypes? Would you
include the
change in net working capital?
2. What is the cash flow resulting from disposal of the equipment at
the end
of the project? 3 .Compute a schedule of depreciation for the plant
and equipment.
4. Compute a schedule of operating cash flows for BioCom‘s new
product.
5. Compute a schedule of incremental cash flows for BioCom‘s new
product.
6. Compute the project‘s net present value.
7. Does your answer to Question 6 indicate that management should
accept
or reject the product?

nothing is wrong.
―Well, your team is doing an excellent job researching, and you‘ve
been keeping me up-to-date on your findings. My concern is that we
are approaching this from a narrow-minded approach.‖
―How so?‖ You ask. You are puzzled. ―Our team has been looking at
every aspect of the company and considering both internal and
external pros and cons.‖
―We need your findings put into some kind of management system so
we can really see where we are headed regarding our global
expansion. I think we need to cover our bases here. Please report back
to me next week with your thinking put into a framework.‖
Complete the following:
A balanced scorecard suggests that we view the organization from
four perspectives (the learning & growth perspective, the business
process perspective, the customer perspective, and the financial
perspective). Briefly discuss these four perspectives analyzing what
each means to your organization? Based on this analysis:What other
strategies would be a good fit for your company profile?Provide a
brief overview of these strategies. Why is it important to have more
than one strategy in mind when pursuing global expansion?
***PLEASE WRITE 3-4 PAGES***
SCENARIO
Company Biography
In January of 2002, John Ferrer and his wife Deborah started their
own corporation, a large custom furniture manufacturer located in
Boston, MA. Their initial accounts were in the Northeastern region of
the United States, and they annually observed a constant profit
increase. By March of 2006, they were able to grow the company
enough to go from five distribution and manufacturing plants to 10 to
allow shipping to 48 states. Although they have two retail stores, one
located in Phoenix and one in Boston, their primary source of revenue
is online catalog sales. They have 10 manufacturing plants and
distribution centers throughout the country.
John and Deborah‘s corporation is known throughout the industry for
its exceptional customer service and superior quality. The
contemporary designs lend themselves to a younger market, and the
customer base is predominantly upper-middle class because it is one
of the highest priced furniture companies in the market. Part of the
appeal of John and Deborah‘s brand is their consistent involvement
with the local communities to create green gardens. They have also
been a major contributor to organizations that build houses for people
in need.
One of their primary strengths is their vertical integration. They have
a team of in-house designers saving the company design costs and
allowing the flexibility to rapidly change designs as the market
changes. Their products have been featured on several prominent
home design and gardening shows and have been endorsed by several
well-known designers.
Because of the recent housing market sales decline (8% from 2005–
2006), home renovations have slowed significantly. This has
impacted the amount of furniture and fixture sales and continues to
impact revenue. Furniture sales in the United States have decreased
significantly, and John and Deborah have recently been discussing the
possibility of global expansion.
Another potential threat to their company is that many higher-end
brands have been marketing aggressively and creating lines for
popular retail stores. These allow the lower-income consumers to
have access to high-end brands at a much lower price point. So far,
these lines have been incredibly successful and have significantly
increased profits for competitors. Many of these competitors have
also had great success in the global marketplace with these lower cost
replicas.
John and Deborah know that it is time to seriously consider expanding
their business. They want to be able to make it through the economic
crisis and rely on other ways to increase sales and business. They are
open to looking into the global market, but they want to be sure that it
is the right move for the business. They have requested an advisory
board meeting next month in which you will present the global
marketing strategy. As the market strategist, you will play a key role
in helping the board decide if this is the right move for the company.
The Problem
You are sitting in Deborah Ferrer‘s office. After the customary small
talk, Deborah sits forward and states, ―I am very impressed with the
work that you have done as the strategic marketing manager. Since
John and I started this company in Boston, we have seen continuous
growth, but nothing like what we have seen since you started.
However, the housing market is really starting to impact our profits.
This last quarter‘s numbers were not looking good.‖
You reply, ―The crisis has really hit us hard. We have some stiff
competition, too, with the other brands creating retail knock-offs.‖
She counters, ―We‘ve had great success with your strategies in the
domestic markets, but we do need to think of a new approach and
strategy. I have complete faith in your abilities to take this company
exactly where it needs to go. I must say that we are really counting on
you, and I know that you will follow through.‖
―I will make sure that we do well. Do you have any new projects for
me?‖ you ask.
Deborah smiles and says, ―You know me well. I do have a new
project for you. I sent you an e-mail just before our meeting. I‘m
curious if expanding in a global market would be a good move for our
company. I would like you to look into this for me.‖
―Our team is definitely up for the challenge,‖ you say with
enthusiasm.
Deborah shakes hands with you warmly, and you make your way out
of the meeting. As you drive out of the parking garage, you think
about your success with the company. You cannot wait to get started.

Transformative: Social media throughout the firm November 5, 2014
If your company has a social media manager, chances are that person
reports into the marketing department. But, the marketing department
is not necessarily the only department that should be using social
media, according to Bin Gu, a professor of information systems at the
W. P. Carey School of Business.
If your company has a social media manager, chances are, that person
reports into the marketing department. Given that the Pew Research
Center
found 72 percent of online adults are active on some form of social
networking site, marketing is an appropriate home for a company‘s
social media initiatives.
But, it‘s not necessarily the only department that should be using
social media, according to Bin Gu, a professor of information systems
at the W. P. Carey School of Business.
A large portion of Gu‘s research centers around social media, and his
investigations lead him to call this phenomenon a ―disruptive
innovation‖ because it breaks barriers both within firms and between
firms and customers. Among other changes, he notes that now
―customers and the general public have become part of the production
function‖ for firms. Businesses will see social media as more than a
way to get things sold. It‘s
also a way to get things done, he says.
R&D: Tapping into the wisdom of the world
Innovation is on Gu‘s list of great things firms are doing with social
media,
and he‘s recently turned his investigative eye toward the world of
crowdsourcing. Unlike outsourcing, where firms turn a function over
to another company to manage, crowdsourcing is the act of posting a
problem or question on the Internet and letting the masses online find
an answer.
The process lets firms ―tap into the wisdom of external people,‖ Gu
notes. ―The firm is not limited to the knowledge of internal R&D
staff.‖ It minimizes risk, too, he adds, because ―there is no failure
cost,‖ he says. ―People don‘t get paid unless they have a solution that
is acceptable to the posting firm.‖
At the center of Gu‘s recent research is Kaggle.com, a crowdsourcing
site that challenges IT experts around the world to vie for the best
predictive analytics solution to big, knotty questions. Among the big-
name users of the site you‘ll find NASA, which used Kaggle to
improve the accuracy of imaging dark matter. Allstate Insurance
turned to this resource to reduce customer churn and improve
estimates on claims costs. Ford sought early detection of driver
drowsiness. And, an unnamed, $100plus billion oil and
gas company tapped the Kaggle community to better predict oil
reserves.
What makes research teams successful on Kaggle? Gu crunched some
data
himself to find out. Specifically, he examined the win ratio of
competing teams, as well as the characteristics of the team members
and their communication exchanges. ―There are two general types of
capabilities involved,‖ Gu explains. ―One is technical capability, or
how well people know data mining. The other is social capability.‖
Gu examined the interaction of the two to determine the combination
of capabilities likely to be most successful in tackling a contest.
―What we found in the teams that were most successful is that the
team leaders have high social capabilities and others on the team have
high technical capabilities,‖ he says. ―The leader needs social
capabilities to coordinate and solicit knowledge out of highly
technical team members.‖
This finding indicates firms might want to look for similar team
dynamics, he adds. ―When crowdsourcing within a firm, you must
match people with good social capabilities and good technical
capabilities. In a competitive environment, this becomes even more
crucial.‖
Knowledge management: Breaking the internal barriers
Group dynamics also come into play when using social media for
company
knowledge sharing, according to research conducted by Gu. He
teamed with two other scholars to explore what made enterprise social
network useful — or not useful — for a large oil and gas firm with
some 200 communities sharing information online. Gu says this firm
has invested heavily in knowledge sharing. It has staff devoted to the
process, as well as
a manager for each of the 200 communities in the enterprise social
network. ―Knowledge sharing really means money to them. It can
cost millions of dollars for each hour an oil rig has to stop drilling
because of a technical problem,‖ he says.
So, Gu and his colleagues tried to understand what factors encourage
knowledge sharing, and he found two of extreme importance. ―One
we called internal cohesion,‖ he says. ―It means everyone participates
in the online communities.‖ Not surprisingly, if only a few people
participate, the
community can‘t flourish, a circumstance Gu found in around 15
percent of the communities studied.
What did surprise the researchers was the second factor needed for
meaningful knowledge sharing: ―external participation,‖ or members
who participate in external communities. External participation may
take away a member‘s time in a focal community, but they could
bring in new knowledge. Gu found that for the most successful
problem solving, groups need both cohesion and a fair share of multi-
group teammates. ―If you don‘t have external participation, you won‘t
have new knowledge coming in,‖ Gu says.
Decision making: The increasing influence of customers Problem-
solving isn‘t the only area where social media participants take on
important roles in an organization‘s operations. As noted earlier, Gu
sees customers now becoming an integral part of the production
function itself.
This production concept can be applied beyond the company
producing a product or service for sale. Gu likens the business of
politics to a manufacturing operation, where the politician‘s
policymaking activity, such as voting in Congress, constitutes firm
output, and constituents buy the politician‘s product with votes of
their own. Since social media breaks the barriers between businesses
and customers, Gu wondered if politicians‘
participation in social media changes the way congressional members
vote on legislation.
He discovered that it does, after doing a careful analysis of
congressional members‘ voting records before and after they started
tweeting. ―Generally, congressional members became more
conservative‖ in their voting after the Twitter interaction began, Gu
found. That was an across
theboard impact.
―What was really interesting is that the shift can be almost entirely
explained by members of congress changing their votes to be closer to
the position of voters if there was a mismatch,‖ he adds. ―Before
engaging constituents through Twitter, there were often gaps between
political leanings of constituents and the congressional members‘
votes. After the social media engagement, we see the congressional
representative comes closer to the voters‘ positions.‖
Validating buzz about buzz: Coming back to marketing
Gu also has looked at social media from a marketing perspective, and
he‘s uncovered findings marketers should note. For instance, one of
his studies,
with W. P. Carey information systems professor Ben Shao and
doctoral student, Chunxiao Li, showed there‘s good reason for
understanding the difference between firmgenerated buzz and
consumergenerated buzz.
―Social media performs two functions. One is information
dissemination and the other is socializing,‖ he says. ―Different social
media sites serve different purposes. Twitter is better for information
dissemination and Facebook is better for socializing.‖ Therefore,
marketers need to use different social media strategies for different
social media sites.
To reach this conclusion, Gu analyzed sales generated by social media
sites as reported by several hundred companies. He found that firm
generated tweets drove product sales, but firmgenerated Facebook
postings had no effect on sales whatsoever. Only consumerto-
consumer interactions on Facebook have an effect on sales. The
message is that consumertoconsumer interaction is the rule of the
game for socializing in
social media sites. ―You can‘t just say your product is good. You have
to get consumers to tell their friends your product is good,‖ he says.
On the flip side, a look at purchase history can outweigh praise, or at
least it did when Gu looked at software downloads. Regardless of
what people said about quality, people stuck with the popular
product,‖ he says. ―They herd together.‖
Consumertoconsumer buzz works in many nuanced ways. In other
research, Gu found that positive buzz improved the sales of popular
products more than they helped the sales of niche products, while
negative reviews hurt niche products more than the popular ones. The
takeaway is that positive buzz becomes all the more crucial for niche-
product sellers, who often rely on the Internet‘s expansive distribution
channel to achieve sales success.
Here too, the consumer voice impacts firm effort and activity. ―Social
media now penetrates throughout firm operations,‖ Gu says. ―It‘s a
more disruptive force than many realize.‖

budgeting

Financing corporate purchases and overall capital budgeting usually
requires the finance manager to assess tax rates, dividend payout
policy, weighting of capital sources, and more. However, the
Modigliani and Miller propositions state that, in most situations, it
does not matter if the firm's capital is raised by issuing stock or selling
debt. As a student you might assume studies of capital budgeting
strategies will no longer be reviewed in coursework. Before coming to
that conclusion please discuss the principles presented by Modigliani
and Miller and explain your agreement or disagreement.

Behavior Change Proposal
Outline
I. Introduction
a. The behavior targeted for change
The behavior intended for change is the addiction to junk
foods (high-calorie foods)
a. The person targeted for change
I am the one targeted for the modification of behavior. I have
a high addiction for junk foods. I can find myself visiting the
fast food joints almost three times a day for the high-calorie
foods such as pizza.
b. The rationale for changing the behavior
It is important to modify the behavior as it is detrimental to
my health. I am almost obese based on the weight gained
from eating the junk foods. It is important for me to maintain
a healthy weight.
II. Response definition
The behavior I wish to change the current situation is the
high addiction to junk and oily foods. I have a high craving
for the junk food, and I end up eating much of the fatty foods
whenever I feel the cravings. Visiting fast food stores like
MacDonald‘s three times a day is one of the addictive
behaviors.
III. Response Measurement
a. Observation and Collection of Data
The behavior would be observed based on the number of
incidences I visit fast food stores. The data would also be
collected depending on the quantity of junk food I intake at
any particular meal. The weight gained over a period of time
would also be a way of collecting the relevant data.
b. Data summary
Data would be graphed and calculated depending on the
amount of junk food calories and how they increase the
weight.
IV. Behavior change strategies
a. Stimulus control strategy • Avoiding watching television programs
concerning junk
foods as they stimulate my cravings
• Avoiding fast food joints as they are the number one
stimulators
b. Reinforcement strategy
• Eating healthier foods to ensure satisfaction and lower
food cravings
• Reading about the health effects of high calories in the
body

Behavior Change Proposal Paper
If you would like to earn an ―A‖ in this class, you must write and
receive a passing grade on a
behavior change proposal. The proposal should describe a behavior
change program that you could
implement for yourself (self-management program) or someone else
(e.g., friend, family member, pet).
The program should incorporate and specify at least two basic
principles of behavior discussed in class
(e.g., reinforcement, punishment, extinction, generalization,
discrimination, respondent conditioning).
You may elect to increase/decrease the frequency of an existing
behavior, establish a new behavior, or
some combination.
Proposals should be 4-6 pages, typed, and double-spaced. Use the
following outline for your
proposal:
Introduction: Describe in a few sentences: (a) the behavior(s) targeted
for change, (b) the
person/animal whose behavior you wish to change (i.e., yourself or
someone else), and (c) a rationale
for changing the behavior(s) (i.e., why is it important?)
Response Definitions: Provide an operational definition (including
situational context if relevant) of
each behavior you wish to change. Describe each behavior in
objective terms so that it can be
observed and counted.
Response Measurement: Describe how you will: (a) observe and
collect data on each behavior, and
(b) how the data will be summarized (i.e., calculated, graphed, etc.)
Behavior Change Strategies: Describe how you will arrange
conditions to change the behavior(s).
Select at least two procedures from the following categories (i.e., the
program will consist of at least
two strategies): stimulus control, reinforcement/shaping, punishment,
extinction, respondent
acquisition/extinction.
The paper should include a justification using the material from the
textbooks and from notes as to
why you are choosing the methods you did as well as a description of
what you expect in terms of
results (number of trials, obstacles, etc.). Papers should be submitted
to Canvas by the date due;
students will have one opportunity for revision if they do not pass the
first time.

Topic 1 of 1: Infant Physical, Cognitive and Socioemotional
Development -- Discussion 200-250 words
This week you are learning about physical, cognitive, and
socioemotional development in infancy. Imagine that you are a
psychology professional working with first-time parents, Mark and
Nicole, and you are providing these parents with information on
infant physical development, cognitive development, and attachment.
Their son, David, is an 11-month-old infant who can crawl and stand
up holding onto something. He can build a tower of two cubes. He
can purposefully crawl toward a ball to roll it. He can find objects that
are hidden, but is unable to search for a hidden object in several
locations and is unable to find an object that has been moved while
out of sight. When his mother, Nicole, left the room for a moment,
David started crying and neither you nor his father could calm him
down. Once Nicole returned to the room, David stopped crying,
calmed down and resumed playing.
1. 1. Using Table 5.2 on page 182 in your textbook, Infants,
Children, and Adolescents , how do David‘s motor skills
compare to the gross- and fine-motor skill milestones listed in
the table? Should Mark and Nicole be concerned if David does
not reach the milestones at the average age listed in the table?
Why or why not?
2. 2. Using Piaget‘s Theory, explain which substage of the
sensorimotor stage best depicts David‘s behavior and why.
What behaviors would you expect next in David with respect to
intentional behavior?
3. 3. Based on the information provided about David, how
would you classify his attachment pattern? Describe the
behaviors you would expect in a securely attached child. What
clues would you look for to distinguish among avoidant,
resistant, and disorganized/disoriented insecure attachment?

power to fulfill a specific purpose. Vocation is also a concept
associated with careers like teachers, emergency responders, doctors,

dedicate their own lives to improving the lives of those whom they
serve. Consider your own view of leadership. How does
understanding leadership as a vocation inform your understanding of

Write a 300-word paper in APA format outlining the ethical decision-
making process you would follow to bring the case to a resolution.
Support your answers with referenced information from this week's
reading. Be sure to think and identify your options and think about
which course of action to pursue, I also suggest you ask the following
questions: What are my choices? How do the options compare with
one another? What might happen? Who might be affected? How
would it make me feel? How would my decision be viewed by other
people? What would my supervisor think? How would my coworkers
feel? Could I lose my job? Is it honest? Is it ethical? Does it reflect
good character? Is it based on sound moral values? How would it
affect my reputation? Would it damage the trust others have in me?
Would I be respected for my decision? What would a professional do?
What does my conscience tell me to do?

1. 1. You are a member of a group planning your
neighborhood's annual block party. You are charged with
creating a flyer describing the party and distributing it, by mail
or door-to-door for those neighbors who are unwilling to share
an e-mail address. You have over thirty neighbors who will need
a flyer. You do not have a copy machine and you will bear the
expense of copying the flyer yourself. At your office, there is no
security key on the copy machine nor is there a counter that
keeps track of the number of copies made by department. You
are tempted to make the copies you need using the company
copy machine. Your company has a strict policy requiring use of
office equipment for business purposes only. What should you
do?
2. 2. You are employed in the Human Resources Department at
Anywhere Hospital. Your good friend Kim is applying for a
position with Hospital. Kim asks you for advice on how to
prepare for an interview. You have access to the interview
questions asked of all candidates and know that if Kim had
access to the questions, she would be well prepared for an
interview. What should you do?
3. 3. You work in Quality Control. Your department receives
new computer equipment as part of a cyclical maintenance plan.
Once a year, your department inventories the existing computer
equipment that is in working order but is no longer needed and
identifies the equipment as excess property. Excess computers
are donated to a local elementary school. This year, your
department has identified ten computers and peripheral
accessories as excess property ready for donation. You are asked
to deliver the excess property to the elementary school. In
viewing the excess property, you note that the equipment is
newer than the equipment you have at your home. You are
tempted to switch out your home computer equipment with
some of the excess property and then deliver the equipment to a
local elementary school. What should you do?

  • 1. Analytical Paper One Non-US Geopolitical Imaginations FOR MORE CLASSES VISIT tutorialoutlet As we have discussed in class to date, geopolitical images of the world – although frequently presented as if they come from nowhere in particular and so reflect everyone‘s understanding of the geopolitical world – are in fact highly nationally particularistic, with actors in each state constructing their own geopolitical visions. In class and in many of our readings this semester, we will be critically analyzing the US geopolitical visions that inform American foreign policy and public perceptions of the world. For your first research paper, you are to choose one or two political leaders from a country other than the United States, and explore the modern geopolitical imagination evident in their speeches, statements and documents. The specifics of this assignment are provided below. First, select one or two political leaders in a non-US country that you would like to research. Make sure that foreign policy documents, reports, and speeches by political elites are available to you (CAUTION! These are not to be American analyses of the practical geopolitics of other countries, nor are they to be media or popular geopolitical sources, but must come directly from official governmental sources of the country you choose). In addition to hard copies of official documents, many countries now have English language versions of this material (i.e., political statements, speeches, etc.) online. Also, speeches by political leaders at the UN General Assembly that happen every year can be good sources. Using these official documents, investigate the geopolitical imagination present in the practical geopolitical sources you select for critical analysis. As we did with President Obama‘s Farewell Address and Donald Trump‘s Inaugural Address,
  • 2. you should think of the leader(s) you choose as politicalcartographers painting a geopolitical map of the world (or a world region) with their speeches. Use Agnew‘s text, and particularly his four major elements in the construction of the modern geopolitical imagination, to analyze the geopoliticalcoding present in the official documents you have selected. Paper One should be approximately 5 pages in length (double- spaced), and is due on March 3 in class. CAUTIONARY NOTE This is NOT a foreign policy analysis per se, and you are not being asked to research US-based writings and analyses of the foreign policies of other countries (i.e., something you might typically do in a political science/IR class). Also, you are NOT being asked to act as traditional geopoliticians in critiquing the foreign policies of other countries and offering your own ‗better‘ geopolitical vision in their place. Rather, you are being asked to act as a critical geopolitical analyst, and to analyze the geopolitical imaginations of one or two political elites in a non-US country, by decoding their speeches and documents. She and her fellow classmates are working hard in their final courses and preparing for exams. Inspired by the teamwork that the healthcare profession espouses, Grace gets an idea for a study group. She thinks it will really help to share case experiences, course notes, and study tips. Unfortunately, several members of her peer group live out of town, which makes it difficult for them to participate fully. Grace is torn, as she does not want to exclude them from the study group. When she voices her concerns to a classmate, her friend suggests using social media tools as the primary medium for sharing information. • 5. CMP 105 Select a recent news article FOR MORE CLASSES VISIT tutorialoutlet  Select a recent news article about a life event of an individual. It can be health related, accident related, educational, or even achievement-oriented. It will be one "slice in the lifespan of that person." For example, you might select a story of someone who has achieved a major goal in life after experiencing a debilitating accident. An example would be Nick Vujicic. Or, you could choose the story of an individual who may be suspected of a developmental disorder, and who is involved in tragedy such as James Holmes. You are encouraged to Google these individuals and read about their stories for ideas for your own selection. Write an essay (approximately 150-175 words) in the space provided in the Assignment Worksheet section on page three addressing the following questions: What is happening to this individual? Give a brief summary. What stage of lifespan developmental stage/age is this person experiencing (i.e. Infant, child, adolescent, or adult and the chronological age)?  How might have the "twig" (person) been bent? Select at least three major developmentalist assumptions such as nature/nurture, behaviorism, genetic code, sociocultural, or any other developmental concepts from your textbook and discuss how these developmental concepts may have contributed to this person's situation before, during and after the life event featured in the news article. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DATA COLLECTION ,INTERVIEWS AND Interviews and Observations FOR MORE CLASSES VISIT tutorialoutlet Running head: CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION ,INTERVIEWS AND Case Study, Data Collection, Interviews and
  • 6. Observations ERAU 1 CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION ,INTERVIEWS AND 2 Case Study, Data Collection, Interviews and Observations 1. Measurement is the assignment of numbers to characteristics (or attributes) of objects according to a pre-specified set of rules. Describe the object and characteristics of Syafiq‘s study. Our textbook states that objects can include persons while characteristics of objects can include arousal-seeking tendencies, achievement motivation, shopping enjoyment, service quality and more (Bougie & Sekaran, 2013). Based on this definition, it is safe to conclude that in this study, the objects are the people and the characteristics are the tendency, motivation, service experience; In other words, satisfaction of the end-users that are visiting the website. 2. The measurement of more abstract and subjective characteristics (or attributes such for instance the attributes in Syafiq‘s study) is more difficult than the measurement of other, more tangible attributes such as weight, length, gender, age, and marital status. Why is that? I believe the reason why measuring more abstract and subjective characteristics is more difficult that measuring other tangible attributes is because the participants of the study can be easily affected by other sources that would ultimately alter their opinions of abstract characteristics to the study, causing their opinions to be immeasurable and the data being unusable towards the study. For instance, different interviewers asking the same question on the same participant might result in different opinions in the end because of the way the question is asked. On the other hand, tangible attributes such as gender, age, and marital status
  • 7. are of no difficulty for the participants to answer since it does not require in-depth thinking and does not require personal opinions to be given toward a study. 3. Based on a review of the literature Syafiq has developed a table (Table 1) that should help him to operationalize the variables of his conceptual model. Use this table to discuss the attribute ‗Information Quality‘ in terms of dimensions and elements. In other words, which dimensions of ‗Information Quality‘ has Syafiq found in the literature and how have these dimensions further been broken into elements by researchers who have investigated this issue in the past? According to the table that Syafiq had designed, all of his variables had been investigated by researchers in the past and are well defined. The definition of each and every variable under information quality is clear and should be easy for Syafiq‘s participants to understand. The survey questions in each variable are precise and clear, which should be beneficial for Syafiq‘s participants in the study. 4. Syafiq could decide to use the survey questions he has found in the literature as a basis for his questionnaire. Is it, in general, a good or a bad idea to use existing scales? Why? CASE STUDY, DATA COLLECTION ,INTERVIEWS AND 3 Existing scales can be convenient, but also Personally, I believe that it is a bad idea for Syafiq to use this existing scale as a basis for his questionnaire. There is an existing possibility that other researchers have also used this set of survey questions in their questionnaires and it would be redundant and the questions are less specific to what Syafiq wanted to gather information on. Although the survey questions are
  • 8. complete, but survey questions designed by Syafiq himself specifically for his questionnaire in his study would be more useful and informative. Designing survey questions himself will also allow Syafiq to gather data on information that he is interested and eliminate questions that are of no value to his study. • 9. Article Critique #1 Assignment ENG 501 WHAT IS AN ARTICLE CRITIQUE? An article critique is a specific type of reading response that asks you to read, analyze and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of an academic article. Critiques are holistic and examine both the content of the article and the ways in which is written before rendering an opinion on the validity or worthiness of the article. Ultimately, the purpose of the critique is to determine if the article meets your (personal and field‐specific) standards of topic selection, evidence, logic and writing style. THE ASSIGNMENT You need to carefully and critically read one of the two articles listed below. You then need to compose a narrative response of at least 2 pages that • Briefly (1 paragraph) summarizes the article Makes a claim about the strength or validity of the author‘s claims, Supports your claims about the author‘s work with specific evidence from the article Makes a supported recommendation about whether someone in your field should use this article in his/her own research or writing. FORMAT Your critique should be in essay format, using complete sentences and paragraphs. It should begin with a summary that identifies the article and author. That should be followed by your evaluation of the research and writing of the article, supported by evidence. Finally, you should conclude with a 1 paragraph recommendation, again supported by evidence, about the use of the article. Your review should contain direct references (quotes, summaries and paraphrases) from the article. You need to correctly cite your summary at the beginning with a signal phrase and in ‐text citation. All other evidence should be cited in APA format. Include a correctly formatted APA‐style References entry at the end of your paper. (It doesn‘t need to be on its own

The publisher desires that American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition be used for formatting of the manuscript and references. According to Elsevier‘s policies and ethics regarding research data, authors are required to submit a statement of compliance with human and/or animal subjects protections board protocol as part of their submission package (Elsevier, 2015b). The journal does not specify a particular format to be used to submit articles, although it is required that the submission be spell-checked and grammar-checked prior to submission using a word processing software, and the full article must be presented in an editable format. BioCom, Inc. is weighing a proposal to manufacture and market a fiber-optic device that will continuously monitor blood pressure during cardiovascular surgery and other medical procedures in which precise, real-time measurements are critical. The device will continuously transmit information to a computer via a thin fiber-optic cable and display measurements on several large monitors in view of operating room personnel. It will also store the data and display it graphically for review during or after procedures. BioCom will market various versions of the device, but manufacture all of them in the same facility using the same equipment. The versions will have similar markups and cost structures. If management decides to bring this device to market, BioCom will stop selling an earlier, less sophisticated version of the monitor. The product that BioCom will discontinue now contributes about $1,650,000 per year to
  • 13. operating cash flow, and projected sales are flat. BioCom focuses exclusively on cutting-edge applications, so it expects to discontinue the new monitor after five years. At that time, it will sell the technology and used manufacturing equipment to a foreign company for an estimated $2,400,000. Cost analysts have collected the following figures and submitted them to the treasurer‘s office for additional study and a final decision on whether to proceed. You, as assistant to the treasurer, must compute and evaluate the basic capital budgeting criteria. The project will initially increase working capital by $480,000, which the company will recover at the end of the project when it sells remaining inventory and collects accounts receivable. The analysts are not quite sure if they should include $450,000 that the company already spent on research and development for the new product. They also disagree about whether the effect of the discontinued monitor on the company‘s overall operating cash flows is relevant to the decision on the new product line, so you must decide how to deal with these two items. Cost of new plant and equipment $24,000,000 Designs and prototypes $ 450,000 Estimated salvage value of technology and equipment, end of year 5 $ 2,400,000 First-year sales forecast $16,500,000 Projected annual rate of sales increases 6% Cost of goods sold 40% of sales Selling, general, and administrative expenses 5% of sales Annual fixed cost $600,000 Operating cash flow from current desk sales $1,650,000 Economic life of the project 5 years Initial change in net working capital $480,000 Depreciation 5-year MACRS Tax rate 34% Discount rate = cost of capital 9% QUESTIONS

Briefly discuss these four perspectives analyzing what each means to your organization? Based on this analysis:What other strategies would be a good fit for your company profile?Provide a brief overview of these strategies. Why is it important to have more than one strategy in mind when pursuing global expansion? ***PLEASE WRITE 3-4 PAGES*** SCENARIO Company Biography In January of 2002, John Ferrer and his wife Deborah started their own corporation, a large custom furniture manufacturer located in Boston, MA. Their initial accounts were in the Northeastern region of the United States, and they annually observed a constant profit increase. By March of 2006, they were able to grow the company enough to go from five distribution and manufacturing plants to 10 to allow shipping to 48 states. Although they have two retail stores, one located in Phoenix and one in Boston, their primary source of revenue is online catalog sales. They have 10 manufacturing plants and distribution centers throughout the country. John and Deborah‘s corporation is known throughout the industry for its exceptional customer service and superior quality. The contemporary designs lend themselves to a younger market, and the customer base is predominantly upper-middle class because it is one of the highest priced furniture companies in the market. Part of the appeal of John and Deborah‘s brand is their consistent involvement with the local communities to create green gardens. They have also
  • 20. been a major contributor to organizations that build houses for people in need. One of their primary strengths is their vertical integration. They have a team of in-house designers saving the company design costs and allowing the flexibility to rapidly change designs as the market changes. Their products have been featured on several prominent home design and gardening shows and have been endorsed by several well-known designers. Because of the recent housing market sales decline (8% from 2005– 2006), home renovations have slowed significantly. This has impacted the amount of furniture and fixture sales and continues to impact revenue. Furniture sales in the United States have decreased significantly, and John and Deborah have recently been discussing the possibility of global expansion. Another potential threat to their company is that many higher-end brands have been marketing aggressively and creating lines for popular retail stores. These allow the lower-income consumers to have access to high-end brands at a much lower price point. So far, these lines have been incredibly successful and have significantly increased profits for competitors. Many of these competitors have also had great success in the global marketplace with these lower cost replicas. John and Deborah know that it is time to seriously consider expanding their business. They want to be able to make it through the economic crisis and rely on other ways to increase sales and business. They are open to looking into the global market, but they want to be sure that it is the right move for the business. They have requested an advisory board meeting next month in which you will present the global marketing strategy. As the market strategist, you will play a key role in helping the board decide if this is the right move for the company. The Problem

Since John and I started this company in Boston, we have seen continuous growth, but nothing like what we have seen since you started. However, the housing market is really starting to impact our profits. This last quarter‘s numbers were not looking good.‖ You reply, ―The crisis has really hit us hard. We have some stiff competition, too, with the other brands creating retail knock-offs.‖ She counters, ―We‘ve had great success with your strategies in the domestic markets, but we do need to think of a new approach and strategy. I have complete faith in your abilities to take this company exactly where it needs to go. I must say that we are really counting on you, and I know that you will follow through.‖ ―I will make sure that we do well. Do you have any new projects for me?‖ you ask. Deborah smiles and says, ―You know me well. I do have a new project for you. I sent you an e-mail just before our meeting. I‘m curious if expanding in a global market would be a good move for our company. I would like you to look into this for me.‖ ―Our team is definitely up for the challenge,‖ you say with enthusiasm. Deborah shakes hands with you warmly, and you make your way out of the meeting. As you drive out of the parking garage, you think about your success with the company. • 22. tutorialoutlet Transformative: Social media throughout the firm November 5, 2014 If your company has a social media manager, chances are that person reports into the marketing department. But, the marketing department is not necessarily the only department that should be using social media, according to Bin Gu, a professor of information systems at the W. P. Carey School of Business. If your company has a social media manager, chances are, that person reports into the marketing department. Given that the Pew Research Center found 72 percent of online adults are active on some form of social networking site, marketing is an appropriate home for a company‘s social media initiatives. But, it‘s not necessarily the only department that should be using social media, according to Bin Gu, a professor of information systems at the W. P. Carey School of Business. A large portion of Gu‘s research centers around social media, and his investigations lead him to call this phenomenon a ―disruptive innovation‖ because it breaks barriers both within firms and between firms and customers. Among other changes, he notes that now ―customers and the general public have become part of the production function‖ for firms. Businesses will see social media as more than a way to get things sold. It‘s also a way to get things done, he says. R&D: Tapping into the wisdom of the world Innovation is on Gu‘s list of great things firms are doing with social media, and he‘s recently turned his investigative eye toward the world of crowdsourcing. Unlike outsourcing, where firms turn a function over to another company to manage, crowdsourcing is the act of posting a problem or question on the Internet and letting the masses online find an answer. The process lets firms ―tap into the wisdom of external people,‖ Gu notes. ―The firm is not limited to the knowledge of internal R&D staff.‖ It minimizes risk, too, he adds, because ―there is no failure cost,‖ he says. ―People don‘t get paid unless they have a solution that is acceptable to the posting firm.‖
  • 23. At the center of Gu‘s recent research is Kaggle.com, a crowdsourcing site that challenges IT experts around the world to vie for the best predictive analytics solution to big, knotty questions. Among the big- name users of the site you‘ll find NASA, which used Kaggle to improve the accuracy of imaging dark matter. Allstate Insurance turned to this resource to reduce customer churn and improve estimates on claims costs. Ford sought early detection of driver drowsiness. And, an unnamed, $100plus billion oil and gas company tapped the Kaggle community to better predict oil reserves. What makes research teams successful on Kaggle? Gu crunched some data himself to find out. Specifically, he examined the win ratio of competing teams, as well as the characteristics of the team members and their communication exchanges. ―There are two general types of capabilities involved,‖ Gu explains. ―One is technical capability, or how well people know data mining. The other is social capability.‖ Gu examined the interaction of the two to determine the combination of capabilities likely to be most successful in tackling a contest. ―What we found in the teams that were most successful is that the team leaders have high social capabilities and others on the team have high technical capabilities,‖ he says. ―The leader needs social capabilities to coordinate and solicit knowledge out of highly technical team members.‖ This finding indicates firms might want to look for similar team dynamics, he adds. ―When crowdsourcing within a firm, you must match people with good social capabilities and good technical capabilities. In a competitive environment, this becomes even more crucial.‖ Knowledge management: Breaking the internal barriers Group dynamics also come into play when using social media for company knowledge sharing, according to research conducted by Gu. He teamed with two other scholars to explore what made enterprise social network useful — or not useful — for a large oil and gas firm with some 200 communities sharing information online. Gu says this firm has invested heavily in knowledge sharing. It has staff devoted to the
  • 24. process, as well as a manager for each of the 200 communities in the enterprise social network. ―Knowledge sharing really means money to them. It can cost millions of dollars for each hour an oil rig has to stop drilling because of a technical problem,‖ he says. So, Gu and his colleagues tried to understand what factors encourage knowledge sharing, and he found two of extreme importance. ―One we called internal cohesion,‖ he says. ―It means everyone participates in the online communities.‖ Not surprisingly, if only a few people participate, the community can‘t flourish, a circumstance Gu found in around 15 percent of the communities studied. What did surprise the researchers was the second factor needed for meaningful knowledge sharing: ―external participation,‖ or members who participate in external communities. External participation may take away a member‘s time in a focal community, but they could bring in new knowledge. Gu found that for the most successful problem solving, groups need both cohesion and a fair share of multi- group teammates. ―If you don‘t have external participation, you won‘t have new knowledge coming in,‖ Gu says. Decision making: The increasing influence of customers Problem- solving isn‘t the only area where social media participants take on important roles in an organization‘s operations. As noted earlier, Gu sees customers now becoming an integral part of the production function itself. This production concept can be applied beyond the company producing a product or service for sale. Gu likens the business of politics to a manufacturing operation, where the politician‘s policymaking activity, such as voting in Congress, constitutes firm output, and constituents buy the politician‘s product with votes of their own. Since social media breaks the barriers between businesses and customers, Gu wondered if politicians‘ participation in social media changes the way congressional members vote on legislation. He discovered that it does, after doing a careful analysis of congressional members‘ voting records before and after they started tweeting. ―Generally, congressional members became more
  • 25. conservative‖ in their voting after the Twitter interaction began, Gu found. That was an across theboard impact. ―What was really interesting is that the shift can be almost entirely explained by members of congress changing their votes to be closer to the position of voters if there was a mismatch,‖ he adds. ―Before engaging constituents through Twitter, there were often gaps between political leanings of constituents and the congressional members‘ votes. After the social media engagement, we see the congressional representative comes closer to the voters‘ positions.‖ Validating buzz about buzz: Coming back to marketing Gu also has looked at social media from a marketing perspective, and he‘s uncovered findings marketers should note. For instance, one of his studies, with W. P. Carey information systems professor Ben Shao and doctoral student, Chunxiao Li, showed there‘s good reason for understanding the difference between firmgenerated buzz and consumergenerated buzz. ―Social media performs two functions. One is information dissemination and the other is socializing,‖ he says. ―Different social media sites serve different purposes. Twitter is better for information dissemination and Facebook is better for socializing.‖ Therefore, marketers need to use different social media strategies for different social media sites. To reach this conclusion, Gu analyzed sales generated by social media sites as reported by several hundred companies. He found that firm generated tweets drove product sales, but firmgenerated Facebook postings had no effect on sales whatsoever. Only consumerto- consumer interactions on Facebook have an effect on sales. The message is that consumertoconsumer interaction is the rule of the game for socializing in social media sites. ―You can‘t just say your product is good. You have to get consumers to tell their friends your product is good,‖ he says. On the flip side, a look at purchase history can outweigh praise, or at least it did when Gu looked at software downloads. Regardless of what people said about quality, people stuck with the popular product,‖ he says. ―They herd together.‖
  • 26. Consumertoconsumer buzz works in many nuanced ways. In other research, Gu found that positive buzz improved the sales of popular products more than they helped the sales of niche products, while negative reviews hurt niche products more than the popular ones. The takeaway is that positive buzz becomes all the more crucial for niche- product sellers, who often rely on the Internet‘s expansive distribution channel to achieve sales success. Here too, the consumer voice impacts firm effort and activity. ―Social media now penetrates throughout firm operations,‖ Gu says. ―It‘s a more disruptive force than many realize.‖ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ MT 480 Financing corporate purchases and overall capital budgeting FOR MORE CLASSES VISIT tutorialoutlet Financing corporate purchases and overall capital budgeting usually requires the finance manager to assess tax rates, dividend payout policy, weighting of capital sources, and more.
