The learners will be Cray employees of various ages and technical abilities. The course will provide both self-paced and facilitated online options to accommodate scheduling issues. 2. 1. What is the tentative title/topic of the course?
The tentative title for my course will be:
SharePoint Boot Camp – Site Owners
The topic of the course will be related to my company’s
implementation of Microsoft SharePoint and how the
site owners in each functional area at Cray should
properly utilize the software to meet their
departmental needs in a collaboration tool.

3. 2. Who are your learners? What age, context/grade,
how many students?
The learners taking this course will be composed of
internal Cray employees from a variety of different
ages and technical abilities. I will probably teach this
course multiple times to individual learners or group
environments. I would like to limit the size of group
classes to no more than 10 students as a group class
will most likely be blended and hands-on in the
classroom.

4. 3. Main purpose of the course?
The main purpose of the course is to train designated
internal employees to function as site owners of
department content that exists in our Microsoft
SharePoint environment. Site owners should be able
to serve as the first point of contact from other staff
members in each department upon completion of the
course.

5. 4. Will the course be self-paced or facilitated? Fully
online or blended? Why?
I would like to provide students the option of
completing this course in a self-paced or facilitated
environment. As a result, the course will likely be
offered fully online. Currently, I hold one-on-one
training sessions, so the chance that the course could
adopt a blended flavor is probable. The blended option
will likely be utilized in group classes (more than 3
participants). The primary reason this course will be
offered fully online is for scheduling issues between
departments. It is difficult to gather a group of
students that can commit the time needed for a group
course offering.

6. 5. Anticipated timeline for implementation?
I plan to have this course implemented by the end of
2012. Not only will this satisfy one of my work goals of
creating SharePoint 2010 documentation/training
materials, but will enable Cray employees to create
goals of completing SharePoint training in 2013.

7. 6. How many total hours of learning time are
required in your course?
I suspect that each module will require an average
around 2 hours of work, which equals 10 hours of
training. For self-paced learners, this number could be
higher or lower given the student’s technical abilities.

8. 7. Are there content standards and/or course objectives that must be
aligned to the course outcomes? List them if you know what they are.
Some preliminary course objectives are:
1. Upload files into repositories
2. Add existing web parts to site pages
3. Create lists and libraries
4. Create metadata columns to organize content
5. Assign permissions / Create groups
6. Create subsites
Mastering these objectives will provide for adequate
site owners.

9. 8. Adult learners: Does the course need professional development,
undergraduate, or graduate credit tied to it? Do you have this available, if
needed?
There will not be any credits that apply to this course,
but as stated before, this course may be used when
setting personal goals, which are created by employees
each year within the company.

10. 9. In what platform will you host the course
(mandated or your choice as designer)?
The direction and facilitation of content will likely be
hosted in Moodle. The subject material, however, can
be completed in any web browser with access to the
company’s SharePoint implementation.

course, or a totally new course?
This course will be a totally new course. There are
some online resources that I will reference, but the
content will be company-specific. This course will be a
portion of a greater effort to make more training
materials and documentation available in an online
format.
