Data-Ed Webinar: Data Warehouse StrategiesDATAVERSITY
Integrating data across systems has been a perpetual challenge. Unfortunately, the current technology-focused solutions have not helped IT to improve its dismal project success statistics. Data warehouses, BI implementations, and general analytical efforts achieve the same levels of success as other IT projects – approximately 1/3rd are considered successes when measured against price, schedule, or functionality objectives. The first step is determining the appropriate analysis approach to the data system integration challenge. The second step is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches. Turns out that proper analysis at this stage makes actual technology selection far more accurate. Only when these are accomplished can proper matching between problem and capabilities be achieved as the third step and true business value be delivered. This webinar will illustrate that good systems development more often depends on at least three data management disciplines in order to provide a solid foundation.
Takeaways:
•Data system integration challenge analysis
•Understanding of a range of data system-integration technologies including Problem space (BI, Analytics, Big Data), Data (Warehousing, Vault, Cube) and alternative approaches (Virtualization, Linked Data, Portals, Meta-models)
•Understanding foundational data warehousing & BI concepts based on the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK)
•How to utilize data warehousing & BI in support of business strategy

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. This is my image in colour after editing this
by changing the colour of my actress’
lipstick; brightness and shadows as well as
increasing the saturation to make the red
background look more vibrant.
This is the image in black and white with a
pop of colour in the lipstick. This idea came
from Rick Ross’ (hip hop artist) album
cover which the image was black and white
with bursts of colour.
3. I chose to make this image look a little
more girly by changing the lipstick colour
from blue to purple and adding pink
hearts around the image however I felt as
though this did not look as conventional
as existing album artwork by Beyoncé. I
also added red to the word ‘hype’ written
on the shirt to give it more colour.
This effect makes the image look
posterised by brightening some areas. I
liked this however did not feel as though
it came across as a ‘sassy’ image which I
wanted to go for.
6. I have used the tools below to enhance the look of the original
image before applying font and other images.
7. Here, I have added white text in
the font style ‘Bebas Neue’ free
from www.fontsquirrel.com.
After importing the image I used
the magic wand tool to remove
the white background so only the
letters were left.
I then added this pink text in the
font style ‘Bebas Neue’ also and
used the warp tool in order to
adjust the look of the image. I liked
the idea of pink and white because
they contrast and are girly colours,
also the capitals reinforce the
attitude theme.
In order to conform to the
conventions of existing albums I
added the parental advisory
image to the bottom left of the
album. This is because some of my
scenes are categorised as suitable
for an audience above 15 yrs old.
8. I initially was going to use the same font for my artist’s name as the title of the album however
after receiving feedback it was most preferred by my peers to use the font style to the right which
is ‘Always in my heart’ from www.dafont.com.
Here, I have changed the text on my
album name from white to red
however I preferred the white colour.
9. I made a rectangular
shape and filled it with
pink colour. I then
added the font to
make my sticker seem
more realistic.
I didn’t realise that I
was writing ‘Flawless’
which is the album
name therefore had to
change this to ‘Feeling
Myself’ by Nicki Minaj.
Nicki Minaj is a friend
of Beyonce’s and she
has featured in the
song Feeling Myself
with Nicki too which is
why I specifically
chose this song to
feature on the sticker
and on the track list.

12. This disc was an image of a dome which I took at a
park. I have edited the image to make look more
vibrant and increased the contrast. To make the
shape of the disc I used the rubber tool to erase the
image on the outside of the circle as well as the
polygon lasso tool to cut round the circle’s edges.
The 2nd disc (DVD) is the image from my front cover
however I have cloned this so that it blended nicely
on the disc’s shape. I also increased the vibrancy on
this image using ‘image’- ‘adjustments’- ‘vibrancy’.
The image above for my
digipak is up-side-down due to
the layout for printing however
this is a shot I have taken from
my music video featuring my
actress’s body against the
Hollywood lit background from
footage which I got at a
concert. I played around with
the image adjustments to
make this look better and
more colourful.
13. Firstly, this image was in a hallway
which the wallpaper and carpet
where on sow so I used the quick
selection too l to erase the parts I did
not need so that I was left with the
body.
I then used the liquify tool in
Photoshop to adjust the actress’
body shape. I dragged out the shape
of the bum so that it looked more
plump and round like Beyoncé's and
I made the waist look smaller too. I
did not feel as though this looked
professional enough to feature on
my digipak as the body looked
unrealistic therefore I stuck to the
original image with a nice effect and
placed it onto a black background.
14. This is the image from the
previous slide underneath
my track listing. I have
changed the hue and
saturation to make the
image look purple and red
however the red clashed
slightly and it is harder to
see what the image is
behind the font.
This image underneath my
track listing is another
which I have edited as
inspired by Demi Lovato’s
album ‘Confident’. This is
more purple to suit the
colour scheme I have used
throughout. This image
looked like it needed
something else so…
I combined both images
under the track listing
which seemed to be the
most preferred image
overall.
