Echo-cardiography, or echocardiogram, is a commonly requested imaging study that uses ultrasound to provide information about the heart and great vessels. It is a fast, cheap, non-invasive test that does not use radiation. An echocardiogram can image the walls, chambers, valves, pericardium, and great vessels of the heart as well as the ejection fraction to check for conditions like heart failure, congenital heart disease, or valve abnormalities. It has many clinical applications such as evaluating chest pain, murmurs, or cardiomegaly. A transesophageal echocardiogram requires fasting beforehand and having someone with the patient, while a transthoracic echocardiogram requires
