Batesian Mimicry Lab Report
Animals have adapted many different methods to avoid being eaten by predators. Some animals may
secrete poison from their bodies to deter predators so they taste bad and others may have spines, or
other defensive mechanisms to signal to predators they are dangerous. Stripes on snakes such as coral
snakes indicate a venomous individual and to signal any potential predator they are ready to fight
back. However, animals that are more or less defenseless are more vulnerable, especially if they are
full of nutrients and a hungry predator is nearby. Therefore they need to outsmart the potential
predators to avoid death. A possible solution to this problem is to resemble a distasteful or dangerous
creature that way the usual predator is not interested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, there has to be an abundance of the noxious, non palatable species model compared to the
relative amount of the mimic (William, 1991). If there is a large amount of the mimic and few models,
then the predator may eat more palatable mimics not knowing which is which and therefore will not
be able to recognize a potential warning signal that the mimic was trying to portray. Another factor is
the level of how bad tasting the model is (William, 1991). If the model is very noxious then the
predator will be more likely to avoid anything that resembles that organism because it will learn that
the food is not palatable at a faster rate (William, 1991). The last factor is how perfect the mimic
resembles the model. If the mimic has not adapted the specific danger signals that are key to the
predator avoiding the model then the mimic may be recognized and mimicry is therefore ineffective.
The closer the resemblance of the mimic to the model then makes it much harder for the predator to
distinguish a difference and completely avoids consuming both (William,

The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales Essay
The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales
How can a man exact vengeance on God if there is nothing a mortal can do to hurt Him? The Pardoner
was born sterile, which resulted in abnormal physical development. He blames God for his deformities
and attempts to attack God by attacking the link between God and mankind the Church.
In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer indirectly depicts the characters through the stories they tell. The
tale is a window upon the person that tells it. However, the Pardoner s tale seems to contradict this
situation. The Pardoner, an immoral man, tells a moral story because he believes that doing this will
further his ultimate objective revenge upon God for his anomalous physical attributes. He had the

The Pardoner s tale has an important theme, Radix malorum est cupiditas, which translates to Greed is
the root of all evil. However, the Pardoner does not practice what he preaches. His vocation, which
involves selling false pardons and relics for a profit, is a contradiction to his theme. And thus I preach
against the very vice/ I make my living out of avarice (243). The Pardoner continues with his tale and
condemns gluttony, drinking, gambling, and swearing, but then declares that he is guilty of each one.
It is evident that the Pardoner is a hypocrite and that he has no intention of changing.
In the tale, three young rioters discover that a good friend has died and they mistakenly believe he was
killed by a man named Death. They pledge that they will find Death and avenge their friend. As they
embark on their quest, they pass by an old man and criticize his age. They inquire about Death, and
the old man mentions that he left Death by a tree. The rioters proceed to the tree, but find a pile of
gold florins rather than Death. Ultimately, the three young men kill each other in a vain attempt to
increase their personal share of the gold. Thus, the young men set out to find Death and they
succeeded in their search. Their greed was the cause of their demise. The Pardoner is analogous to the
rioters because

The Carolina Panthers Analysis
After opening at 5.5 points, the Super Bowl line has settled at around 6.0 with the Carolina Panthers
favored over the Denver Broncos. One would assume the Panthers are favored due in large part to its
15 1 regular season record and the manner with which it eliminated its playoff opponents Seattle 31 24
and Arizona 49 15. All things considered, it would be prudent to consider whether or not the Broncos
are indeed as much of an underdog as the line indicates. One one hand, the Panthers are very flashy
with its brash young QB in Cam Newton and high scoring offense. On the other side of the field, the
Broncos are led by a strong defense and an aging QB, Peyton Manning, who is arguably one of the
greatest football players in NFL history. To begin the analysis, everyone sans Carolina ... Show more

On the season, he ran or passed for 4,473 yards while accounting for 45 TDs and only 10
interceptions. It was his ability to finally grasp a leadership role that led to the Panthers huge turn
around from a 7 8 1 season recorded in 2014. Also, the Panthers have a defense that more than held its
own, ranking sixth in the league in both scoring defense (193 PPG) and yards allowed at 322 YPG.
With a marginal advantage on defense and a big deficit on offense, the 6 point line seems reasonable.
However, the one intangible that can t be factored into the line is Manning s will to win. A man doesn
t retire from the NFL as its leader in passing yards and TDs by accident. The Broncos might be an
underdog, but gamblers should proceed with caution. If you locate the best free bet offers available for

How The Big Oil Companies Have Kept Substitutions At Bay...
Introduction The oil industry has been around since the 1860 s and has made its mark on the world.
Becoming the largest used fuel source and the biggest market industry integrating its self into the
world economy. Crude oil pulled from the ground through different stages of technology has grown as
a major commodity and demand has grown largely since it was first discovered. This industry has
been looked at for collusion for many years now. The competitiveness of the industry and weather
OPEC is a large collusive organization. How the big oil companies have kept substitutions at bay
whether it be through lobbying for regulations or other tactics. Or how companies can own all the way
from the drill to the pump and manipulate the market prices through the power of market transactions.
I want to analyze data point of these transactions and see if prices are being held higher for longer and
if so it to be the cause of collusive activity. With control groups and cases I will come to my own
conclusion of weather the price of gas stays higher longer in certain states than others and if there is a
direct correlation to upward and downward spike in crude oil vs gasoline. Product How is it made
First I want to talk about the Oil Industry and the process of getting oil to the pump that people then
use for fuel. Crude oil can be found miles below earth s surface in pockets called reservoirs. It is made
from Hydrocarbons, Organic compounds, and small amounts of metal. These

Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation
CHAPTER III
AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before
manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care.
Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008).
Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially
difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous
anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is
no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma
affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is
impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the
anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).
 Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit
previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult.
Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior intubation
and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet indicating a history
of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded

King Louis Xiv Of France
L État, c est moi ( I am the state ). Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth century, absolute
monarchs ruled many countries and states. In an absolutist state, power and sovereignty is embodied
within one person. Absolute kings attempted to control competing institutions and jurisdictions in their
state, and secured power with the nobility. An absolute monarchy has total political power over its
sovereign state and people. King Louis XIV of France and Tsar Peter the Great of Russia were both
absolute monarchs. These two monarchs satisfied the four characteristics of absolutism: divine right of
kings, meaning they were chosen by God; skilled bureaucracy, where decisions are made by the state;
control of the economy, absolute monarchs had control of money and trading; and lastly a professional
army, the absolutist must have a permanent standing army. King Louis XIV of France was born on
September 5, 1638, he became King at age five, in 1643, and his reign lasted until 1715. King Louis
XIV satisfied the four conditions of absolutism. The divine right of kings meant Louis received his
power directly from God, loyalty to the King meant loyalty to God. The Sun King was a name given
to Louis XIV. This name associated him with the gods; the planets revolve around the sun, as France
revolves around Louis. He also had a skilled administration, which was a large bureaucracy of
departments that advised him and supported his decisions. Louis isolated the nobles and relinquished

The Museum Of Anthropology And The Smithsonian Museum
Try, if you would, to recall your last visit to a museum or other similar institution. Did you
immediately accept the information presented to you as fact? Did you stop to think about how a
particular exhibit represents a culture and whether or not it was accurate? Since their origin, museums
were created for the purpose of preservation and interpretation of the material culture they exhibit, and
have been the most widely accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other
cultures. That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the value of
museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually serves to devalue or
misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I have decided to focus in the collections
of material culture present in the Beloit College Logan Museum of Anthropology and the Smithsonian
Museum. First, I begin by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of
museums. Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures they
display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt to utilize what I have
learned in order to compare the two institutions and identify the ways in which they have taken steps
to keep up with modern museological and discourse.
To begin, preservation and interpretation, the concepts that form the basis of museums, originates
from the human inclination to acquire

Queen Elizabeth I; a Powerful Ruler in England
Brittany Fleetwood Barbara Whitehead History 111 6 May 2010 Queen Elizabeth I: A Powerful Ruler
in History While there was no law in Tudor England preventing appointment of a woman on the
throne, the ruling of a woman was considered unfavorable. Women were not normally held high in
command because it was believed that women could not rule well. During a time where the role of
women was contained, Elizabeth I of England proved her power and remained the only unmarried
queen in England s history. She reined England from 1558 to 1603 and has become the symbol of an
age, a symbol of the power of a woman who strived to govern. Queen Elizabeth I, the Virgin Queen, is

And as for the traitor Wyatt, he might peradventure write me a letter but on my faith I never received
any from him; and as for the copy of my letter sent to the French King, I pray God confound me
eternally if ever I sent him word, message, token or letter by any means, and to this truth I stand it to
my death. Elizabeth pled her innocence her character true and loyal to her sister and Mary denied to

Queen , there was no response when the cry was God save the Lady Elizabeth , the answer came, so

Lady Elizabeth s involvement against this treason, she was let go upon Wyatt s confession that neither
Elizabeth or Courtenay had any involvement in the rebellion. The importance of the dispute is that the
English supported Lady Elizabeth over their own Queen. The nation s religious state was most

Nelson Mandela Character Analysis

11 Sep 2017
Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. The first person I think of is Nelson Mandela.
Mandela s ultimate success had to do with his character and background. Although he was born in a
royal family, grew up in a divided region of South Africa between blacks and whites. He still managed
to maintain a correct mindset to a path leading to success. You can come from a small surrounding and
have a bigger triumph than someone who comes from a lot more, or it s the total opposite. In this case,
it s the fact that coming from a wealthy family who supports you will get you anywhere. Gladwell
argues that having a superior background means that it is much easier to be successful ... Show more

Which brings me to my next point. One s background definitely has an impact on successful people. If
it were a different person with a different background, hence the situation would have turned out
differently. Many people are born already into an easier lifestyle because of the place their family has
already had. Robert Oppenheimer was a smart guy who turned out to be successful with the support of
his family and wealth. Oppenheimer didn t face the lifetime struggles, Lagan has. But he did suffer
from depression and was emotionally unstable, which made sense as to why, Oppenheimer took some
chemicals from the laboratory and tried to poison his tutor (Gladwell 98). The first instance is that any
person is going to go to jail for any crime he or she did, no matter who they are or what reputation
they hold. But for this case, Oppenheimer was taken out the hot seat and was not punished. I believe
he was let out of the situation way too easily and it was odd for them to do. Gladwell here covers
every detail of Oppenheimer s case, making it to the university and how they handled it, Blackett,
luckily, found out that something was amiss. The university was informed. Oppenheimer was called
on the carpet. And what happened next is every bit as unbelievable as the crime itself. Here is how the
incident is described in American Prometheus, Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin s biography of
Oppenheimer: After protracted negotiations, it was

American Legion Boys State Program Analysis
When thinking about a personal experience that has greatly affected my life, the first thought that
comes to mind is the week that I spent at the California State University of Sacramento (SAC State)
attending the Boys State program. The American Legion Boy s State program is where eleventh grade
boys from across the state come together to learn about how the government of California functions.
However, Boys State was much more than that for me. That one week had a greater effect on my life
than any other experience I have had before. I first found out about Boys State when my counselor
called me into his office and told me about the opportunity. I filled out all of the paperwork and was

I was taught how the state government works, but I was taught in a different way. We, the attendees,
learned about the government by starting at the local level. A mayor was elected and other important
roles for a city were also filled. Then we moved up to learning about counties. There were many jobs
to fill, and I decided to run for the position of a District Supervisor. I won the election and I proceeded
to meet with other elected district supervisors to begin making laws for our county. We had a room
dedicated for us to create laws and run the county. After county, we made it to the state level. This is
where positions like Senator and Governor were elected. I learned more than I had ever expected to,
and that is because of how I was taught. The adults guided us, however, it was almost entirely the job
of all the attendees to run the program and plan what we were going to do next to get an edge over the
other counties and cities to fill as many elected positions with our own people. Not only did I learn
how California functions, I made many great new friends along the

Theories on the Existence of God
There are many groups of people that have differing views on God. Does he exist? Does
he not exist? These questions can be argued with countless theories as to why he does exist and
how there is no way that he does not exist or he does not exist and there is no way that he does
exist. Theists would argue that God does exist and there is good reason to think that he exists.
Agnostics, Atheists, and Fideists, on the other hand would argue that there is no good reason to
think that God exists. For some people they have no doubt that God exists. They are convinced
by experiences, theories, or just their faith alone, that God exists while others are not so easily

Natural evil includes physical and metal suffering of animals and people.
Swinburne feels that both moral evil and natural evil are necessities for the world s good,
everyone can learn and grow from them. Why God Allows Evil also suggests that the good in
the world has to be balanced by the evil. In order to have good, there has to be some evil. This
statement carries some weight because whenever tragic events happen there is usually some
good that comes from it. For example, when the Boston Marathon Bombing took place, the city
of Boston came together to offer support for the victims and anyone involved. Swinburne
suggests that God would give us responsibility for ourselves, each other, and the world, and he
gave us free will to allow us to create and determine what sort of world we want to live in. There
are some people that believe that there is no such thing an unnecessary suffering. They believe
that suffering is a necessity of humans having free will and that free will is a good thing for
people to have and we benefit from it as a whole in our society. Suffering is necessary to build
character and develop compassion or empathy. In the argument of free will, humans must be
given the choice to do evil things and to cause suffering. Some people believe that to some
extent, how we suffer is a result of the attitudes we freely choose. Everyone reacts to situations
differently and people grieve in different ways. Some people that

Powers of the United States Congress as Established by the...
The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the
Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the
judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance on
each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often results
in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the Founding
Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the possibility of
any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress, like the other two
branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers specifically granted the
Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several different locations in the
Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The first of Congress enumerated
powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states. Since first being addressed by
the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the
power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate commerce has been expanded, over
time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce now includes any activities that
substantially affects interstate commerce. One of Congress most significant powers is the authority

Essay about The Lovely Bones Movie vs Book
Peter Jackson s 2009 film, The Lovely Bones, is based off of the New York Times bestseller novel
written by Alice Sebold. Both the book and the movie adaptation tell the story of a young, 14 year old
girl named Susie Salmon who is brutally murdered by her neighbor. In both versions, Susie narrates
her story from the place between Heaven and Earth, the in between, showing the lives of her family
and friends and how each of their lives have changed since her murder. However, the film adaptation
and the original novel differ in the sense of the main character focalization throughout, the graphic

In the novel, the murder and rape of Susie Salmon is intensively described, ...cut into pieces... blood
soaked into the soft, wet earth... leaving no question in the reader s mind as to what was happening or
might have happened (Novel, Chapters 2 3). While in the movie version of the book, the murder and
rape scene is not showed at all, only having to be assumed by showing Mr. Harvey, the murderer,
bathing with his entire bathroom covered in blood. Also, the movie doesn t mention rape at all, only
that Susie was murdered, while the book is specific in saying that she was first raped, and then
murdered (Movie). Towards the end of the movie, Susie enters the body of Ruth Connors, Ray s best
girl friend and a medium to the spirit world, while her and Ray are visiting the sink hole in their
neighborhood, and kisses Ray (Movie). In the novel, Susie actually has sex with Ray when she enters
the body of Ruth, with all details being explained explicitly. The relationship between Susie s mother
and father throughout the film adaptation of the novel was complicated, but not as complicated as the
actual novel. In the novel, after Susie s death, the fighting between the mother, Abigail, and the father,
Jack, becomes excessive and repetitive eventually leading to Abigail having an affair with the
detective of her daughter s murder case. She eventually leaves her home and family and moves to
work in a Californian winery

A Comparison Of The Unites States And Canada s Health...
A Comparison of the Unites States and Canada s Health Care System America has a very disorganized
and fragmented healthcare system while Canada has a very structured and established system. Since
there is no healthcare system in the world that is considered perfect all countries implement polices
that they believe will be the most beneficial for their residents, The United States and Canada s
systems are both constantly being reformed to fit the current needs their residents however there are
strengths and weaknesses for both of the systems.
United States Health Care System and it s Benefits The United States health care system is considered
broken because we do not have one universal system. Within the American system there are different
types of health insurance such as private, group or self insurance. The United States works on a fee for
service system so the providers receive money for every service they provide therefore the medical
bills for Americans are significantly high. Before the Affordable Care Act was implemented a few
forms of government programs were Medicaid, the Children s Health insurance Program and
Medicare. Medicaid and Children s Health Insurance Program were to help insure the low income
citizens and their children. CHIP and Medicaid are both funded by the government and state but
administered by the individual states. CHIP covers children whose family income is up to 200% of the

Moon Landing Conspiracy And Its Effects On The World Essay
Moon Landing Conspiracy
The United States and Mankind have gone on to do many amazing feats that were once though
impossible. However, nothing comes to be quite as amazing as the Apollo 11 mission that landed the
first men on the surface of the moon. At the time this act caused widespread celebration, and cheer.
Over the years some people started to doubt the legitimacy of what occurred on that day back in 1969.
These people came on to form the basis of the moon landing conspiracy theory. A theory that states
that the United States never landed on the moon and the United States faked the whole thing in order
to say they won the space race against the Soviet Union and increase moral during the time of the
Cold war. Some of the core arguments that form the Moon landing Hoax conspiracy are that the
mission would have been too dangerous with the technology we had at the time. They disregard any
footage from the event, believing that NASA and the US government created a fake set in an
undisclosed location and used special effects to make the footage seem more believable. All of the
claims made by these hoax believers can be refuted with science and common sense, and that is what
this paper sets out to do.
The Apollo missions were huge efforts that required thousands of scientists, workers and contractors
to come together. So how is it that thousands of people can come together to create what was a fake
mission without one person coming forward and leaking the fact that all of

Great College Debate Essay
Great College Debate Many people will tell you that you college is the most important thing you could

different things. What alternatives are there? you might be wondering. There are many things to do
once you graduate from high school. All people have certain skill sets that they can use after high

some are suited to go straight into the job force doing jobs such as welding and construction.
The military is becoming an increasingly common job to go into after high school. What most people

Youth Gangs
Youth participation in gangs actually decreased from 1996 to 2004, but the violence within these
gangs has not. Homicides committed by youth gang members still remain as a monumental problem
across the United States of America. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
reported in its 2004 survey of youth gangs that there were an estimated 760,000 gang members that
year. Many of the kids affiliated with gangs come from lower income, single parent homes; therefore,
the youths of America often turn to gangs to fill the void of not being part of a family . To combat this
problem and save our youth from a life of malfeasance, the people of the communities of America
must take a stand against the negative influences that impact these youths.
Violence within Youth Gangs of America
The term gang can be associated with a number of different things but, for this paper, the term gangs
will be in reference to youth gangs; youth gangs are considered to consist of adolescents and young
adults from the ages of 12 to 24 (Decker and Howell, 1999, p.1). Gangs have been a normal part of
United States culture for centuries now, a sad but also, very true statement. What started out as a group

An Outdated Buddhist
The stupa, an engineering structure ordinarily lodging the cremated remains or belonging of essential
righteous figures, is thought to be the auxiliary image and the most imperative sort of landmark of
Buddhism. Most stupas have an extremely unmistakable semi round shape, regularly encompassed by
a wall. As Buddhism was presented in diverse districts, the fundamental building elements of stupas
were changed into an assortment of shapes mirroring the masterful articulations of those societies.
The Mahaparinirvana Sutra (an antiquated Buddhist content portraying the most recent days of the
Buddha) guarantees that after the Buddha passed away, his devotees partitioned his cremated stays
into eight segments. Each of the eight kingdoms in which the Buddha had lived gotten one part of the
relics, and a stupa was raised in every kingdom keeping in mind the end goal to house the remaining
parts. Buddhist sources assert that amid the third century BCE, the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka the
Great requested these eight stupas to be opened, further appropriated the relics of the Buddha into
84,000 partitions, and had stupas assembled over every one of them over the extending Buddhist
world.
The relics of the Buddha were not just considered a memorial image by the Buddhist group; they were
accepted to be the living vicinity of the Buddha, a vault of his defensive powers and living vitality.
Right on time in the Buddhist convention, pastorate and common people alike honed the reverence of

The Lost Boys Metaphors
Teenagers as metaphors for Vampires
Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It s fun to be a vampire. (The Lost Boys,
1987). The tagline to Joel Schumacher s 1987 film, The Lost Boys, glorifies the allure of being a
member of the undead. The transformation into a teenager, or vampire, are both marked by a turbulent
time of sexual development, peer pressure, and is an important phase in the formation of their identity.
In literature, and in film, the vampire can be perceived as the perfect metaphor for a teenager due to
the parallel nature that they both share and the hardships they endure.
One of the biggest changes during adolescence is that of sexual development, and young adults are
constantly fighting these powerful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michael starts out as an ordinary teen at the beginning of the film, but after encountering David and
the Lost Boys, he decides to change his look in attempts to fit in with them and impress Star. In the
boardwalk scene, a tracking shot is used to follow Michael as he checks himself out after buying a
dark leather jacket and walks over to the booth where he wants to get his ear pierced. Wearing dark
sunglasses soon becomes part of his bad boy image, and his mother starts to complain that he is
staying out until the middle of the night and sleeping in all day (Schumacher Bros,1987).
Another instance where rebellion occurs, is when the teenage vampires kill the security guard from the
boardwalk merry go round. By removing the only male and parental authoritative figure (with the
exception of Max, the head vampire and video store owner), the Lost Boys bring about the absence of
competent adult males. As David, the leader of the Lost Boys puts it We do what we want, Michael.
We have complete freedom. Nobody knows about this place and nobody knows about us. Freedom,
Michael. No parents. No rules. Hell, we re as free as

Franklin Roosevelt s New Deal Essay
Roosevelt s New Deal
On July 2, 1932, at the Democratic National Convention, the crowd listened intently to the phrase, I
pledge you, I pledge myself to a new deal for the American people. The New Deal name was soon
applied to the program of reform and recovery instituted by Franklin Delano Roosevelt. During the
early part of the Great Depression, the economy had ground to a halt as a result of the stock market
crashing and the unemployment rates skyrocketed as businesses shut down. Only a very small portion
of the population actually held stock. The cause of the Great Depression was really a result of shallow
economical prosperity. Most of the farmers and other industries struggled in the 1920 s. Low prices,
suppressed wages and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This conflict was probably as helpful as it was harmful to the decision making processes needed for
instituting the programs and organizations introduced in the following years. The New Deal would
bring about a new beginning in public welfare by setting up the framework for a welfare state, which
is still in existence today. The New Deal program is usually divided into three periods.
The first phase (1933 34) attempted to provide recovery and relief from the Great Depression through
programs of agricultural and business regulation, inflation, price stabilization, and public works (New
Deal 1993). Fortunately for Roosevelt, the Democratic Party held the majority in Congress. This
allowed Franklin Roosevelt to churn out legislation with almost no resistance. On his second day in
office, FDR called for a special session of Congress which would ultimately establish numerous
emergency organizations, notably the National Recovery Administration (NRA), which attempted to
stabilize prices and wages through cooperation between the government, business, and labor, the
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which used various means to rebuild trust in banking,
the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), which aided farmers through compensation, the
Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Public Works Administration; both of which employed many
people to work on public building

Experiencing Bollywood
Experiencing Bollywood: An Avant garde Attempt Introduction Bollywood has been characterised for
its larger than life plots, elaborate song and dance sequences, melodramatic acting which underpins
the Indian social framework. With the advent of globalisation, it has paved way for a wider variety of
film genres and has managed to reach out to audiences beyond the Indian diaspora. Constantly
pushing the envelope at various junctures, the Bollywood phenomenon has become prominent in the

Hence before viewing the film, the ambience of Bollywood is brought forth. However food and snacks
were still limited to the usual popcorn. Based on my research, Bombay Talkies, where I had initially
planned to go, sold Indian snacks which may have further heightened the Bollywood atmosphere. An
important element of the cinema going experience is the ticket. The ticket serves different purposes As
a form of theatre branding; generic information such as date, time and cinema hall of screening; entry
access for the soon to be viewer; and possible memento. Hence the ticket holds practical meaning and
possible attachment with the past presence of viewing the movie. But advancements in technology
have replaced this tangible nostalgia as this cinema is the first to introduce an auto gate system via a
confirmed booking code sent to a moviegoer s phone enabling them to scan this code for entry. This
has been introduced to more cinemas around Singapore as well. While this caters to more efficient
crowd management, it disrupts the nostalgic sentiment in the moviegoer. While I was expecting a
predominantly North Indian crowd for the evening showtime slot, I was surprised to see a wide
spectrum of people present. Apart from my friend and I being Tamil, there was a young Indian (Tamil)
couple as well; some North Indians, an old couple in their 50s and some teenage girls; 2 Chinese mid
aged women; and the majority of the theatre (seating capacity 208), which was

Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Essay
Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century
Deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, is present within every single cell in the human body and controls the
production of different proteins. DNA can be thought of as the brain of every cell, it governs the
operation of the body s cells and so determines whether the individual has good health or is ill. It is for
this reason that the study of DNA generates such excitement in medical research, and offers such hope
for the future identification and treatment of disease.
Many would argue that the mapping of the human genome is one of the key scientific achievements;

The decoding of the human genome will allow pharmaceutical companies to develop new drugs that
act on the mechanism of the disease and identify susceptible genes (to diseases, like the common cold)
for early detection and prevention. Furthermore, this information will allow pharmaceutical companies
to identify from a certain individuals genetic make up if they are likely to react adversely to a
particular drug. It will also allow the companies to identify people who would benefit from particular
drug treatments. The last two areas are important in the field of pharmacogenetics, this is the tailoring
of drug treatment to the genetic make up of the patient while maximising the drug efficiency and
minimizing the possible side effects.
Before any information on the human genome sequence was available, when individuals didn t
respond well to prescribed drugs the drug was blamed. However, over time we have gathered more
information and expanded our knowledge on the human genome and actually discovered that the
adverse reaction was down to the individual and not the drug. This is because within all of us there are
known to be polymorphisms. In order for us to understand this I must describe the science behind this
idea.

EVALUATION OF THE PAPER
Purposes
The original paper by Edelen and Reeve (2007) addresses the question that, in health outcomes
researches, response burden seems to be a problem for some researchers, and thus an effective way to
refine health outcomes instruments is necessary. The purposes of the paper are two fold. First, the
paper provides a brief overview of the IRT principles and the critical issued associated with IRT
applications (pp. 5 8). Second, the paper extensively demonstrates the utility of IRT and related
analyses in refining questionnaire and selecting a shortened scale to reduce response burden when
measuring adolescence depression.
Methods Edelen and Reeve used handful psychometric techniques to assess the data and reduce the
form from 19 item to 10 item. They used CTT to reveal the basic statistics for the 19 items. Then, they
calculated the Cronbach s alphas and the Fisher s z transformed average interitem correlations to elect
a 3 category version of the scale to be analyzed. Moreover, they assessed the dimensionality and local
independence using EFA and CFA. For the major IRT analysis, the authors utilized the GRM to
estimate slope and step parameters, construct ICCs and IIFs, and evaluate fit at the item level. In the
end, they were able to select the short 10 item form.
The data Edelen and Reeve used came directly from AddHealth public use dataset and was
representative of US schools in a wide variety of aspects, like region of country, degree of

Pelagic Shark Evolution
Transformations in marine ecosystems produced by the functional elimination of apex predators,
recently due to the increasing scale of human exploitation of the sea, can derive in complex and
unpredictable consequences. As a consequence, it is expected a presumably increase of their prey
populations, many of them secondary predators, with severe cascade down effects on the food webs
(Baum et al. 2003, Myers et al. 2007, Dulvy et al. 2008). Hence, the management and conservation of
wide range predators such as pelagic sharks becomes highly necessary, yet extremely difficult due to

Third countries have myriad problems that interrelate in intricate ways to cause a series of problems
for their citizens. One major problem in the third world countries is the disease burden. Waterborne
diseases make a major contribution to diseases burden in the third world. As per the World Health
Organization, waterborne diseases contribute to about 4.1% to the daily burden of diseases on the
planet daily. WHO puts the contribution of sanitation, poor hygiene, and unsafe water contribution to
waterborne diseases at 88% (Guidelines for drinking water quality, 2011). Water ... Show more

Infants and the elderly are particularly susceptible to waterborne diseases due to their weak
immunities (3rd World Water Congress: drinking water treatment : selected proceedings of the 3rd
World Water Congress of the International Water Association, held in Melbourne, Australia, 7 12 April
2002, 2002). Children s immunity experiences most of the diseases for the first time making the body
not to respond adequately to the pathogens. Their immunity improves with age as their immunity
continues to register these pathogens and develops their antibodies. Elderly people have weak
immunity as immunity only gets impaired with old age. Protozoan diseases include Amoebiases,
Cryptosporidiosis, Cyclosporiasi, Giardiasis, and Microsporidiosis among others. Each disease listed
above has its own protozoan pathogen. Each protozoan has a common habitat in contaminated water.
Such habitats include sewage, on flies from contaminated water, animal manure, run off water,
groundwater, leaks, and where people share water with animals. Common symptoms of these diseases
include diarrhea, weight loss, low appetite, cramps, nauseas, fatigue, bloating, fever, and muscle

tasks down into small steps, each step reinforced and rewarded as it was learned. Although Skinner s
experiments were generally carried out on animals, his work became widely applied to child
development and to work with parents. (How Children Learn, John Holt, p.43). Working with parents
means that teachers will work with parents to continue reinforcement at home, for example when a
child comes home with a sticker, the parents will be encouraged by the teachers to ask why the child

Abolish The Death Penalty Should Not Be Abolished

Abolish the Death Penalty Since the state has no power to give life, it should not exercise its power to
take a life either. After all, the judicial system is not a fool proof system. The risk of putting an
innocent human being to death by capital punishment, cannot be ruled out. The only purpose it serves
is retribution or revenge. Therefore, the death penalty must be abolished. The death penalty is prone to
errors that may have led to the execution of wrongfully convicted people. There have been 330 post
conviction DNA exonerations here in the U.S (Innocence Project).
The Supreme Court should bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and hold that
death is a cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. The death penalty
process consumes tremendous amounts of money and resources and fails to deter murders.
The average cost to put someone to death is 1.1 million dollars that Americans are paying for (Huddar,
Buzzle). That money can be used for a lot more things, such as, helping homeless veterans, who
served our country, or children who live in poverty right here in America. It is used in an often
arbitrary and racist manner. In a study commissioned by the governor of Maryland, defendants who
kill white victims were more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed a black (McElwee,

Why Tortoise s Shell Is Not Smooth
Treat others the way you want to be treated is a famous saying that people usually tell children. I

that also slightly being unwise character. I believe that the Tortoise is dishonest because he told the
birds at the beginning of the story that he was a changed man and he wouldn t ruin the feast. But when
he arrived to the feast the Tortoise was offered to speak in front of the birds because they thought he

Gregor Mendel Essay
Gregor Mendel played a huge role in the underlying principles of genetic inheritance. Gregor was
born, July 22 1822 in Heinzendorf, Austrian Silesia (now known as Hyncice, Czech Republic), with
the name Johann Mendel. He changed his name to Gregor in 1843. He grew up in an Augustinian
brotherhood and he learned agricultural training with basic education. He then went on to the Olmutz
Philosophical Institute and later entered the Augustinian Monastery in 1843. After 3 years of
theological studies, Mendel went to the University of Vienna, where 2 professors influenced him; the
physicist Doppler and a botanist named Unger. Here he learned to study science through

This hypothesis can be divided into four main ideas. The first idea is that alternative versions of genes
account for variations in inherited characters. Different alleles will create different variations in
inherited characters. The second idea is that for each character, an organism inherits two genes, one
for each parent. So that means that a homologous loci may have matching alleles, as in the true
breeding plants of Mendel s P generation (parental). If the alleles differ, then there will be F hybrids.
The third idea states that if the two alleles differ, the recessive allele will have no affect on the
organism s appearance. So an F hybrid plant that has purple flowers, the dominant allele will be the
purple color allele and the recessive allele would be the white color allele. The idea is that the two
genes for each character segregate during gamete production. Independent assortment states that each
member of a pair of homologous chromosome segregates during meiosis independently of the
members of other pairs so that alleles carried on different chromosomes are different distributed
randomly to the gametes. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Mendel s work was not recognized right away
as an important scientific breakthrough. In 1868 Mendel was promoted to abbot at the monastery and

The Negative Personality Of Albert Einstein
THE CREATIVE PERSONALITY OF ALBERT EINSTEIN
He is renown as the Father of solid state Physics , the famous 20th century scientist and a symbol of
intellectual independence and leadership (Cardona, 2005). Albert Einstein the Jewish mathematician
and physicist was born on March 14,1879 at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany. He is acclaimed for his
theories in physics specifically the theory of special relativity, the general theory of relativity and the
photoelectric effect (Howell, 2017). His special relativity theory summarised in the equation E=mc2 is
widely known even among those who don t understand physics. It s these theories that earned him the
international accreditation and acclaim in physics as the Nobel Prize winner in 1921(Parker 2007).
According to the 4P s of creativity, the press which is the external (structural) social environment one
grows up in largely contributes to one accessing information contained in a given domain
(Csikszentmihalyi, 1988). This is clearly demonstrated in Einstein s early life. His father and uncle
were engineers who ran a company that made electrical equipment based on direct current (Howell,
2017), thus he was exposed to so much the factual knowledge and underlying principles and tenets of
physics, machines and equipment s at his father s workshop.
Second to this is his personality, the internal (subjective) factors that triggers creativity according to
(Csikszentmihalyi 2014). Einstein was very curios and inquisitive by nature. The

Attending a magnet school which based its education in the arts I never realized how drastically

education more frequently came from collaborative coursework rather than traditional lesson plans.
The transition to high school was difficult because it seemed that students focused on social status and
school administration focused on standardized testing scores. When looking at my education
compared to course readings, I have found that despite my two schools being in the same school
district and city, they each proposed different notions as to how schools should be ran and what makes

James FallowsViva Bilingualism
James Fallows in his essay on Viva Bilingualism argued that bilingualism should not be feared by the
people in America. The author claimed that it is possible to learn more than one language and by
doing so, people connect better with one another. He stated that there is no need to adopt English as
the official language, because that is understood. Fallows proved that America won t have separation
problems because of its uniqueness compared to other countries. Simply learning two different
languages can be extremely beneficial to Americans. He believed that English is a strong language but
despite of that he had a strong incentive to learn Japanese. Immigrants that come to America have
incentives to learn another language, whereas, most Americans do not have reasons to learn another
language. Although the author is very well spoken, he provides little to no evidence to support his
claims. However, in a logical sense, individuals are already aware, to a degree, of the benefits of being
bilingual. The author s sarcasm and inability to back up his information steers audiences away from
his claims.
Fallows claimed that learning two languages is possible, but did not show the difficulties in such. Not
everyone has the capacity to learn more than one language, although he did not discuss such instances.
Which makes the opponents view somewhat truthful? The opponent views that learning more than
language is like polygamy which is impossible. Polygamy means having two wives and

Metaphors Of A Magnifico By Wallace Stevens Essay
Modernist poetry is too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message. Do you agree?
Modernist poetry is not too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message because it
depends on the readers how they read it or analysis it. If the readers read the poem carefully and think
afar, then the poem conveys meaningful social and political messages. However, the poem Metaphors
of a Magnifico by Wallace Stevens convey both social and political messages where the social
message that he conveys to the reader is to work in group rather than working individual in the society
and the political message that the poet conveys to the readers is that in order to write a book or poem,
the author or the poet needs to borrow the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The beginning of the poem visibly tells us the social meaning that the poet conveys to the readers. The
line from the text Twenty men crossing a bridge, into a village, Are twenty men crossing twenty
bridges, into twenty villages (Harmonium, 1923) visibly tell us that the poet is trying to convey the
readers that in order to have a good and better community, the people in the community have to work
together. The line from the text Or one man crossing a single bridge into a village (Harmonium, 1923)
informs the readers that the ideas of twenty people are better compared to idea of a single person. The
poet uses the tone of numerical exactness in order to confuse the readers but if the readers read the
poem carefully than the readers will get the idea of the poem where the poet is comparing single man
with twenty men. The line from the text This old song that will not declare itself... (Harmonium, 1923)
tell the readers that if a single man is working by himself, then the result will be not good and the
outcome will be less. If the work is done by twenty men, then the result will be good and the outcome
will also be

Victorian Women Research Paper
The role of Victorian women was expected to be limited to childbearing and housewife. During the
Victorian Era it was important that women marry and have a family. Four classes of women were
noted during this time, they were, the Nobility, Gentry, Middle Class, Upper working class and lower
working class. They were supposed to live highly restrictive life with their lives centered around their
husband and subsequently their children. This meant these women were subject to sexual abuse,
physical abuse and any money they made was given to the husband. Totally legal back in the Victorian
era (Zelster, 2018).
Women who belonged to the nobility class enjoyed their life in luxury. Spent most of their time doing
parties and going to balls. The rest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were not allowed to vote, sure or even own property. If they did have any of these items, once
they become married, then it all belonged to the husband. Women during this time were not allowed to
open any form of bank accounts. If the woman did work outside the home, the money was always
given to the husband. If they divorced any money would still be deemed to belong to the ex husband,
along with the home and the children. (Jones, K. n.d) Marriage abrogated a woman s right to consent
to sexual intercourse with her husband, giving him ownership over her body. Their mutual
matrimonial consent, therefore became a contract to give herself to her husband as he desired. Women
were not allowed to have sex prior to marriage, but it was ok that men could. It could not be for
pleasure, it was all about being a mother and doing what the men wanted (Jones, K., n.d.). While
husbands participated in affairs with other women, wives endured infidelity as they had no rights to
divorce on these grounds and their divorce was a social taboo. If women were granted a divorce, the
men kept everything and then women would have to go back to their father s house and that was also a
problem because their fathers didn t always want them back.
Women s rights groups fought for equality and over time made strides to change rights and privileges,
however, many Victorian women endured their husband s control, cruelty targeted

A Student Board Representative For My School District
Fifteen years ago, I served as the student board representative for my school district. All I can really
remember is being entertained by emotional parent complaints and listening to jargon filled
presentations. Upon receiving my first pink slip from that same district seven years later, I spoke at a
school board meeting for the first time. Three years later, I was motivated by another pink slip to
speak in front of a school board this time as a teacher for my current school district, San Diego County
Office of Education (SDCOE) Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS). Since that first pink
slip scare with JCCS, I have been a regular attendee at SDCOE board meetings. I try my best to pay
attention and even take notes when JCCS is on the agenda. I have spoken on behalf of my students
and coworkers and even helped to introduce my site s student board representative. However, I
honestly spend most of the meetings bored by detailed presentations about programs far removed from
my classroom or confused by topics that I do not completely understand. However, I keep attending.
During the past few weeks, I attended the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) June 2 meeting
and the SDCOE June 10 meeting. After observing a board meeting in a traditional school district for
the first time in ten years, I was reminded of the strong parent and community voice that is often
shared during board meetings in local districts. On the other hand county board meetings are

Summary Of Equiano s Middle Passage
1. Equiano and his sister are kidnapped from their home while their parents are working in the fields.
He is separated from his sister when he is sold into slavery; he later reunites with her for one night
until she is ripped away to be sold again. He is sold to many different owners; the majority of them
had a similar language and culture as his, a few were completely different. On the sea coast aboard the
slave ship, Equiano faints; when Equiano regains consciousness he is forced below the deck where he
is confronted with an unbearable stench and constant crying, he is so sick that he does not have an
appetite and he wishes for death. 2. The Middle Passage is described as a grim, hopeless journey in
which the Africans lived in constant

Examples Of Non Violent Crimes
By definition non violent crimes are crimes that do not implicate physical harm or use of force upon
another person. The most common of nonviolent crimes are drug trafficking, possession of drugs,
burglary and or larceny. Other cases of non violent crimes are prostitution, bribery, arson and fraud.
At first I was all for early prison release of nonviolent offenders, why should tax payers have to pay
for someone growing or smoking an herb that s legal in other states? But after much research I had a
change of heart. A crime is a crime no matter how small and criminals should be accountable for their
actions.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics did a report, entitled Recidivism of State Prisoners Released in 2005,
and was collaborated from data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t do the crime, if you can t do the time. Nonviolent or white collar crimes may not be violent
however it is certainly not victimless. Say you become a victim of identity theft or trust a crooked
investor (Jordan Belfort) and suddenly you lose your home and life savings; though you were not
physically harmed, this could be detrimental to yours and your family s future. Allowing these
offenders to be released early creates a huge incentive for criminals to commit even more crimes. A
large amount(~67%) of non violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders, and it s because they
know they will serve a little time and then can go back out into society to do it all over

Sherman Argumentative Essay
After a hot bath the next morning, Sherman went to the Robe Cleaning and Repair
Shop. He asked the big angel to repair the huge hole left by that silly dog. Then he went to the
Map Store so he could to plan their next trip to Earth. He called Mugsie and Topsie together.
Since we have so many places left to search for Peewee s home and so little time, let s
split them up and fly to each place alone. We can t search every city, but we can make a list
and fly to a lot of them.
Okay with us, chimed Mugsie and Topsie.
Well, said Sherman, when you look at a globe of Earth, you see lots of water and

She pulled out her map one more time. Wow. Three more countries. That s lots of

Just then, Mugise phoned. I m finished with my continent. Need any help ?
Yes! Italy and Germany. That gives me time to fly back north to Ireland.
Hours later, when Topsie landed in Ireland, she thought it was the greenest country she
had ever seen. Fields of grass everywhere! Peewee would love this. She looked in window
after window. Everyone with a pet had a dog. No cat owners except for a few old ladies.
After awhile, she flew to another part of Ireland, one with caves. They dotted the
shoreline near a lovely sea. Suddenly, Topsie heard a whisper from inside one of them.
Psst. Psst.
Topsie whirled around and saw a tiny man dressed in green. She knew at once that he
was a leprechaun. Sherman had told her they were not real at all. But there he was in front of
her!
Hi, said Topsie. Did you want something?
The leprechaun giggled. Bet you can t catch me, he said. If you do, you ll get a pot of

  • 2. Batesian Mimicry Lab Report Animals have adapted many different methods to avoid being eaten by predators. Some animals may secrete poison from their bodies to deter predators so they taste bad and others may have spines, or other defensive mechanisms to signal to predators they are dangerous. Stripes on snakes such as coral snakes indicate a venomous individual and to signal any potential predator they are ready to fight back. However, animals that are more or less defenseless are more vulnerable, especially if they are full of nutrients and a hungry predator is nearby. Therefore they need to outsmart the potential predators to avoid death. A possible solution to this problem is to resemble a distasteful or dangerous creature that way the usual predator is not interested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, there has to be an abundance of the noxious, non palatable species model compared to the relative amount of the mimic (William, 1991). If there is a large amount of the mimic and few models, then the predator may eat more palatable mimics not knowing which is which and therefore will not be able to recognize a potential warning signal that the mimic was trying to portray. Another factor is the level of how bad tasting the model is (William, 1991). If the model is very noxious then the predator will be more likely to avoid anything that resembles that organism because it will learn that the food is not palatable at a faster rate (William, 1991). The last factor is how perfect the mimic resembles the model. If the mimic has not adapted the specific danger signals that are key to the predator avoiding the model then the mimic may be recognized and mimicry is therefore ineffective. The closer the resemblance of the mimic to the model then makes it much harder for the predator to distinguish a difference and completely avoids consuming both (William, ... • 3. The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales Essay The Pardoner of The Canterbury Tales How can a man exact vengeance on God if there is nothing a mortal can do to hurt Him? The Pardoner was born sterile, which resulted in abnormal physical development. He blames God for his deformities and attempts to attack God by attacking the link between God and mankind the Church. In The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer indirectly depicts the characters through the stories they tell. The tale is a window upon the person that tells it. However, the Pardoner s tale seems to contradict this situation. The Pardoner, an immoral man, tells a moral story because he believes that doing this will further his ultimate objective revenge upon God for his anomalous physical attributes. He had the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pardoner s tale has an important theme, Radix malorum est cupiditas, which translates to Greed is the root of all evil. However, the Pardoner does not practice what he preaches. His vocation, which involves selling false pardons and relics for a profit, is a contradiction to his theme. And thus I preach against the very vice/ I make my living out of avarice (243). The Pardoner continues with his tale and condemns gluttony, drinking, gambling, and swearing, but then declares that he is guilty of each one. It is evident that the Pardoner is a hypocrite and that he has no intention of changing. In the tale, three young rioters discover that a good friend has died and they mistakenly believe he was killed by a man named Death. They pledge that they will find Death and avenge their friend. As they embark on their quest, they pass by an old man and criticize his age. They inquire about Death, and the old man mentions that he left Death by a tree. The rioters proceed to the tree, but find a pile of gold florins rather than Death. Ultimately, the three young men kill each other in a vain attempt to increase their personal share of the gold. Thus, the young men set out to find Death and they succeeded in their search. Their greed was the cause of their demise. The Pardoner is analogous to the rioters because ... • 4. The Carolina Panthers Analysis After opening at 5.5 points, the Super Bowl line has settled at around 6.0 with the Carolina Panthers favored over the Denver Broncos. One would assume the Panthers are favored due in large part to its 15 1 regular season record and the manner with which it eliminated its playoff opponents Seattle 31 24 and Arizona 49 15. All things considered, it would be prudent to consider whether or not the Broncos are indeed as much of an underdog as the line indicates. One one hand, the Panthers are very flashy with its brash young QB in Cam Newton and high scoring offense. On the other side of the field, the Broncos are led by a strong defense and an aging QB, Peyton Manning, who is arguably one of the greatest football players in NFL history. To begin the analysis, everyone sans Carolina ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the season, he ran or passed for 4,473 yards while accounting for 45 TDs and only 10 interceptions. It was his ability to finally grasp a leadership role that led to the Panthers huge turn around from a 7 8 1 season recorded in 2014. Also, the Panthers have a defense that more than held its own, ranking sixth in the league in both scoring defense (193 PPG) and yards allowed at 322 YPG. With a marginal advantage on defense and a big deficit on offense, the 6 point line seems reasonable. However, the one intangible that can t be factored into the line is Manning s will to win. A man doesn t retire from the NFL as its leader in passing yards and TDs by accident. The Broncos might be an underdog, but gamblers should proceed with caution. Becoming the largest used fuel source and the biggest market industry integrating its self into the world economy. Crude oil pulled from the ground through different stages of technology has grown as a major commodity and demand has grown largely since it was first discovered. This industry has been looked at for collusion for many years now. The competitiveness of the industry and weather OPEC is a large collusive organization. How the big oil companies have kept substitutions at bay whether it be through lobbying for regulations or other tactics. Or how companies can own all the way from the drill to the pump and manipulate the market prices through the power of market transactions. I want to analyze data point of these transactions and see if prices are being held higher for longer and if so it to be the cause of collusive activity. With control groups and cases I will come to my own conclusion of weather the price of gas stays higher longer in certain states than others and if there is a direct correlation to upward and downward spike in crude oil vs gasoline. Product How is it made First I want to talk about the Oil Industry and the process of getting oil to the pump that people then use for fuel. • 6. Airway Assesment Of The Difficult Airway Before Manipulation CHAPTER III AIRWAY ASSESMENT IN TRAUMA PATIENTS Identification of the difficult airway before manipulation is the Holy Grail of clinical management. It is the first step in preparing for patient care. Selection of airway devices, techniques, and procedures all pivot on airway evaluation (Carin, 2008). Preoperative examination of the airway is essential. Identification of patients with a potentially difficult airway before anesthesia allows time to plan an appropriate anesthetic technique. Previous anesthetic records should always be consulted. However, a past record of normal tracheal intubation is no guarantee against difficulty on subsequent occasions as airway anatomy can be altered as in trauma affecting the airway. The presence of stridor or hoarse voice is warning sign for the anesthetist. As it is impossible to identify all patients with a difficult airway during preoperative assessment, the anesthetist must be prepared to manage the unexpected difficult laryngoscopy (Alan et al,. 2001).  Historical Indicators of Airway Difficulty: The intent of obtaining an airway history is to elicit previously known factors indicating that airway management has been (and likely will be) difficult. Any patient who is awake and capable of coherent conversation should be asked about prior intubation and ventilation successes or failures. Some patients possess a Medic Alert bracelet indicating a history of difficult intubation or ventilation and this can be useful in obtunded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. King Louis Xiv Of France L État, c est moi ( I am the state ). Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth century, absolute monarchs ruled many countries and states. In an absolutist state, power and sovereignty is embodied within one person. Absolute kings attempted to control competing institutions and jurisdictions in their state, and secured power with the nobility. An absolute monarchy has total political power over its sovereign state and people. King Louis XIV of France and Tsar Peter the Great of Russia were both absolute monarchs. These two monarchs satisfied the four characteristics of absolutism: divine right of kings, meaning they were chosen by God; skilled bureaucracy, where decisions are made by the state; control of the economy, absolute monarchs had control of money and trading; and lastly a professional army, the absolutist must have a permanent standing army. King Louis XIV of France was born on September 5, 1638, he became King at age five, in 1643, and his reign lasted until 1715. King Louis XIV satisfied the four conditions of absolutism. The divine right of kings meant Louis received his power directly from God, loyalty to the King meant loyalty to God. The Sun King was a name given to Louis XIV. This name associated him with the gods; the planets revolve around the sun, as France revolves around Louis. He also had a skilled administration, which was a large bureaucracy of departments that advised him and supported his decisions. Louis isolated the nobles and relinquished ... Did you immediately accept the information presented to you as fact? Did you stop to think about how a particular exhibit represents a culture and whether or not it was accurate? Since their origin, museums were created for the purpose of preservation and interpretation of the material culture they exhibit, and have been the most widely accepted method for the dissemination of information pertaining to other cultures. That being said, there is an increasing amount of discourse today questioning the value of museums and the ways in which their exhibition of material culture actually serves to devalue or misrepresent their cultures of origin. For this research paper, I have decided to focus in the collections of material culture present in the Beloit College Logan Museum of Anthropology and the Smithsonian Museum. First, I begin by sharing what I have learned about the history surrounding the origins of museums. Next, I identify the ways in which museums obscure and misrepresent the cultures they display through their exhibits either intentionally or otherwise. Finally, I attempt to utilize what I have learned in order to compare the two institutions and identify the ways in which they have taken steps to keep up with modern museological and discourse. To begin, preservation and interpretation, the concepts that form the basis of museums, originates from the human inclination to acquire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Queen Elizabeth I; a Powerful Ruler in England Brittany Fleetwood Barbara Whitehead History 111 6 May 2010 Queen Elizabeth I: A Powerful Ruler in History While there was no law in Tudor England preventing appointment of a woman on the throne, the ruling of a woman was considered unfavorable. Women were not normally held high in command because it was believed that women could not rule well. During a time where the role of women was contained, Elizabeth I of England proved her power and remained the only unmarried queen in England s history. • 11. Nelson Mandela Character Analysis Nyayiel Lok Director Riveroll Senior Monday 11 Sep 2017 Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. The first person I think of is Nelson Mandela. Mandela s ultimate success had to do with his character and background. Although he was born in a royal family, grew up in a divided region of South Africa between blacks and whites. He still managed to maintain a correct mindset to a path leading to success. You can come from a small surrounding and have a bigger triumph than someone who comes from a lot more, or it s the total opposite. In this case, it s the fact that coming from a wealthy family who supports you will get you anywhere. Gladwell argues that having a superior background means that it is much easier to be successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which brings me to my next point. One s background definitely has an impact on successful people. If it were a different person with a different background, hence the situation would have turned out differently. Many people are born already into an easier lifestyle because of the place their family has already had. Robert Oppenheimer was a smart guy who turned out to be successful with the support of his family and wealth. Oppenheimer didn t face the lifetime struggles, Lagan has. But he did suffer from depression and was emotionally unstable, which made sense as to why, Oppenheimer took some chemicals from the laboratory and tried to poison his tutor (Gladwell 98). The first instance is that any person is going to go to jail for any crime he or she did, no matter who they are or what reputation they hold. But for this case, Oppenheimer was taken out the hot seat and was not punished. I believe he was let out of the situation way too easily and it was odd for them to do. Gladwell here covers every detail of Oppenheimer s case, making it to the university and how they handled it, Blackett, luckily, found out that something was amiss. The university was informed. Oppenheimer was called on the carpet. And what happened next is every bit as unbelievable as the crime itself. Why God Allows Evil also suggests that the good in the world has to be balanced by the evil. In order to have good, there has to be some evil. This statement carries some weight because whenever tragic events happen there is usually some good that comes from it. For example, when the Boston Marathon Bombing took place, the city of Boston came together to offer support for the victims and anyone involved. Swinburne suggests that God would give us responsibility for ourselves, each other, and the world, and he gave us free will to allow us to create and determine what sort of world we want to live in. The United States Congress was established by the Constitution to be the legislature branch of the Government as distinguished from the executive branch which is headed by the President and the judiciary. The system is organized in order for each of the branches to act as a check and balance on each of the other branches (Moyers, 1987). This check and balance nature of the system often results in creating friction between the branches but this was precisely the purpose behind the Founding Fathers setting the system up in this manner. The theory was that this would diminish the possibility of any one branch becoming too powerful in relation to the other branches. Congress, like the other two branches of the U.S. government, is limited to exercising only the powers specifically granted the Constitution. The powers granted Congress are enumerated in several different locations in the Constitution but the majority of its powers are set forth in Article I. The first of Congress enumerated powers is its authority to regulate commerce among the several states. Since first being addressed by the U.S. Supreme Court in the landmark case of Gibbons v. Ogden (Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824) the power of Congress to engage itself in the operation of interstate commerce has been expanded, over time, to the point where Congress power to regulate commerce now includes any activities that substantially affects interstate commerce. In both versions, Susie narrates her story from the place between Heaven and Earth, the in between, showing the lives of her family and friends and how each of their lives have changed since her murder. While in the movie version of the book, the murder and rape scene is not showed at all, only having to be assumed by showing Mr. Harvey, the murderer, bathing with his entire bathroom covered in blood. However, nothing comes to be quite as amazing as the Apollo 11 mission that landed the first men on the surface of the moon. At the time this act caused widespread celebration, and cheer. Over the years some people started to doubt the legitimacy of what occurred on that day back in 1969. These people came on to form the basis of the moon landing conspiracy theory. A theory that states that the United States never landed on the moon and the United States faked the whole thing in order to say they won the space race against the Soviet Union and increase moral during the time of the Cold war. Some of the core arguments that form the Moon landing Hoax conspiracy are that the mission would have been too dangerous with the technology we had at the time. They disregard any footage from the event, believing that NASA and the US government created a fake set in an undisclosed location and used special effects to make the footage seem more believable. All of the claims made by these hoax believers can be refuted with science and common sense, and that is what this paper sets out to do. The Apollo missions were huge efforts that required thousands of scientists, workers and contractors to come together. So how is it that thousands of people can come together to create what was a fake mission without one person coming forward and leaking the fact that all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Youth Gangs Youth participation in gangs actually decreased from 1996 to 2004, but the violence within these gangs has not. Homicides committed by youth gang members still remain as a monumental problem across the United States of America. The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention reported in its 2004 survey of youth gangs that there were an estimated 760,000 gang members that year. Many of the kids affiliated with gangs come from lower income, single parent homes; therefore, the youths of America often turn to gangs to fill the void of not being part of a family . To combat this problem and save our youth from a life of malfeasance, the people of the communities of America must take a stand against the negative influences that impact these youths. Violence within Youth Gangs of America The term gang can be associated with a number of different things but, for this paper, the term gangs will be in reference to youth gangs; youth gangs are considered to consist of adolescents and young adults from the ages of 12 to 24 (Decker and Howell, 1999, p.1). Gangs have been a normal part of United States culture for centuries now, a sad but also, very true statement. What started out as a group of friends wearing their favorite color and protecting their neighborhood from crime has turned into a problem of epic proportion across the United States of America. An Outdated Buddhist The stupa, an engineering structure ordinarily lodging the cremated remains or belonging of essential righteous figures, is thought to be the auxiliary image and the most imperative sort of landmark of Buddhism. Most stupas have an extremely unmistakable semi round shape, regularly encompassed by a wall. As Buddhism was presented in diverse districts, the fundamental building elements of stupas were changed into an assortment of shapes mirroring the masterful articulations of those societies. The Mahaparinirvana Sutra (an antiquated Buddhist content portraying the most recent days of the Buddha) guarantees that after the Buddha passed away, his devotees partitioned his cremated stays into eight segments. Each of the eight kingdoms in which the Buddha had lived gotten one part of the relics, and a stupa was raised in every kingdom keeping in mind the end goal to house the remaining parts. Buddhist sources assert that amid the third century BCE, the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka the Great requested these eight stupas to be opened, further appropriated the relics of the Buddha into 84,000 partitions, and had stupas assembled over every one of them over the extending Buddhist world. The relics of the Buddha were not just considered a memorial image by the Buddhist group; they were accepted to be the living vicinity of the Buddha, a vault of his defensive powers and living vitality. During the early part of the Great Depression, the economy had ground to a halt as a result of the stock market crashing and the unemployment rates skyrocketed as businesses shut down. The first phase (1933 34) attempted to provide recovery and relief from the Great Depression through programs of agricultural and business regulation, inflation, price stabilization, and public works (New Deal 1993). The ticket serves different purposes As a form of theatre branding; generic information such as date, time and cinema hall of screening; entry access for the soon to be viewer; and possible memento. Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Essay Genetics Effect on Medicine in the 21st Century Deoxyribonucleic acid, DNA, is present within every single cell in the human body and controls the production of different proteins. DNA can be thought of as the brain of every cell, it governs the operation of the body s cells and so determines whether the individual has good health or is ill. It is for this reason that the study of DNA generates such excitement in medical research, and offers such hope for the future identification and treatment of disease. It will also allow the companies to identify people who would benefit from particular drug treatments. The last two areas are important in the field of pharmacogenetics, this is the tailoring of drug treatment to the genetic make up of the patient while maximising the drug efficiency and minimizing the possible side effects. Before any information on the human genome sequence was available, when individuals didn t respond well to prescribed drugs the drug was blamed. However, over time we have gathered more information and expanded our knowledge on the human genome and actually discovered that the adverse reaction was down to the individual and not the drug. The purposes of the paper are two fold. First, the paper provides a brief overview of the IRT principles and the critical issued associated with IRT applications (pp. 5 8). Second, the paper extensively demonstrates the utility of IRT and related analyses in refining questionnaire and selecting a shortened scale to reduce response burden when measuring adolescence depression. He grew up in an Augustinian brotherhood and he learned agricultural training with basic education. This hypothesis can be divided into four main ideas. The first idea is that alternative versions of genes account for variations in inherited characters. Different alleles will create different variations in inherited characters. The second idea is that for each character, an organism inherits two genes, one for each parent. So that means that a homologous loci may have matching alleles, as in the true breeding plants of Mendel s P generation (parental). If the alleles differ, then there will be F hybrids. The third idea states that if the two alleles differ, the recessive allele will have no affect on the organism s appearance. So an F hybrid plant that has purple flowers, the dominant allele will be the purple color allele and the recessive allele would be the white color allele. The idea is that the two genes for each character segregate during gamete production. Independent assortment states that each member of a pair of homologous chromosome segregates during meiosis independently of the members of other pairs so that alleles carried on different chromosomes are different distributed randomly to the gametes. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Mendel s work was not recognized right away as an important scientific breakthrough. His special relativity theory summarised in the equation E=mc2 is widely known even among those who don t understand physics. It s these theories that earned him the international accreditation and acclaim in physics as the Nobel Prize winner in 1921(Parker 2007). According to the 4P s of creativity, the press which is the external (structural) social environment one grows up in largely contributes to one accessing information contained in a given domain (Csikszentmihalyi, 1988). This is clearly demonstrated in Einstein s early life. His father and uncle were engineers who ran a company that made electrical equipment based on direct current (Howell, 2017), thus he was exposed to so much the factual knowledge and underlying principles and tenets of physics, machines and equipment s at his father s workshop. Second to this is his personality, the internal (subjective) factors that triggers creativity according to (Csikszentmihalyi 2014). Einstein was very curios and inquisitive by nature. The ... • 40. Attending A Magnet School Program Essay Attending a magnet school which based its education in the arts I never realized how drastically different my curriculum was than that of other middles schools. The difference went beyond middle schools in my district or state, but affected me closer to home at my high school. In middle school, education more frequently came from collaborative coursework rather than traditional lesson plans. The transition to high school was difficult because it seemed that students focused on social status and school administration focused on standardized testing scores. When looking at my education compared to course readings, I have found that despite my two schools being in the same school district and city, they each proposed different notions as to how schools should be ran and what makes education valuable. Anoka, Minnesota is a northern suburb of the Twin cities. The city is home to around seventeen thousand residents and proudly wears the name of the Halloween Capital of the World. Anoka has 6 public schools which take residence within city; three elementary schools, two middle schools, and one high school. Although the students from the two middle schools become one when they enter ninth grade, what they learn in middle school is vastly different. Sandburg middle school sits only four blocks from Fred Moore Middle School. What is going on inside the two schools, however, is different. Sandburg, like most middle schools across the country, focuses on subject which are viewed as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. James FallowsViva Bilingualism James Fallows in his essay on Viva Bilingualism argued that bilingualism should not be feared by the people in America. The author claimed that it is possible to learn more than one language and by doing so, people connect better with one another. He stated that there is no need to adopt English as the official language, because that is understood. Fallows proved that America won t have separation problems because of its uniqueness compared to other countries. Simply learning two different languages can be extremely beneficial to Americans. He believed that English is a strong language but despite of that he had a strong incentive to learn Japanese. Immigrants that come to America have incentives to learn another language, whereas, most Americans do not have reasons to learn another language. Although the author is very well spoken, he provides little to no evidence to support his claims. However, in a logical sense, individuals are already aware, to a degree, of the benefits of being bilingual. The author s sarcasm and inability to back up his information steers audiences away from his claims. Fallows claimed that learning two languages is possible, but did not show the difficulties in such. Not everyone has the capacity to learn more than one language, although he did not discuss such instances. Which makes the opponents view somewhat truthful? The opponent views that learning more than language is like polygamy which is impossible. Polygamy means having two wives and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modernist poetry is not too abstract to convey any meaningful social or political message because it depends on the readers how they read it or analysis it. If the readers read the poem carefully and think afar, then the poem conveys meaningful social and political messages. However, the poem Metaphors of a Magnifico by Wallace Stevens convey both social and political messages where the social message that he conveys to the reader is to work in group rather than working individual in the society and the political message that the poet conveys to the readers is that in order to write a book or poem, the author or the poet needs to borrow the ... • 43. Victorian Women Research Paper The role of Victorian women was expected to be limited to childbearing and housewife. During the Victorian Era it was important that women marry and have a family. Four classes of women were noted during this time, they were, the Nobility, Gentry, Middle Class, Upper working class and lower working class. They were supposed to live highly restrictive life with their lives centered around their husband and subsequently their children. This meant these women were subject to sexual abuse, physical abuse and any money they made was given to the husband. Totally legal back in the Victorian era (Zelster, 2018). If they divorced any money would still be deemed to belong to the ex husband, along with the home and the children. (Jones, K. n.d) Marriage abrogated a woman s right to consent to sexual intercourse with her husband, giving him ownership over her body. Their mutual matrimonial consent, therefore became a contract to give herself to her husband as he desired. Women were not allowed to have sex prior to marriage, but it was ok that men could. It could not be for pleasure, it was all about being a mother and doing what the men wanted (Jones, K., n.d.). While husbands participated in affairs with other women, wives endured infidelity as they had no rights to divorce on these grounds and their divorce was a social taboo. If women were granted a divorce, the men kept everything and then women would have to go back to their father s house and that was also a problem because their fathers didn t always want them back. Women s rights groups fought for equality and over time made strides to change rights and privileges, however, many Victorian women endured their husband s control, cruelty targeted ... • 45. A Student Board Representative For My School District Fifteen years ago, I served as the student board representative for my school district. All I can really remember is being entertained by emotional parent complaints and listening to jargon filled presentations. Upon receiving my first pink slip from that same district seven years later, I spoke at a school board meeting for the first time. Three years later, I was motivated by another pink slip to speak in front of a school board this time as a teacher for my current school district, San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS). Since that first pink slip scare with JCCS, I have been a regular attendee at SDCOE board meetings. I try my best to pay attention and even take notes when JCCS is on the agenda. I have spoken on behalf of my students and coworkers and even helped to introduce my site s student board representative. However, I honestly spend most of the meetings bored by detailed presentations about programs far removed from my classroom or confused by topics that I do not completely understand. However, I keep attending. During the past few weeks, I attended the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) June 2 meeting and the SDCOE June 10 meeting. After observing a board meeting in a traditional school district for the first time in ten years, I was reminded of the strong parent and community voice that is often shared during board meetings in local districts. The most common of nonviolent crimes are drug trafficking, possession of drugs, burglary and or larceny. Other cases of non violent crimes are prostitution, bribery, arson and fraud. At first I was all for early prison release of nonviolent offenders, why should tax payers have to pay for someone growing or smoking an herb that s legal in other states? Allowing these offenders to be released early creates a huge incentive for criminals to commit even more crimes.
