E-readers in the library discusses the pros and cons of libraries offering e-readers to patrons. Some benefits include: allowing patrons to access multiple books on a single device; appealing to reluctant readers; and assisting those with disabilities. However, key challenges are the expense of purchasing devices and establishing policies around issues like device charging, breakage, and loss. While e-readers can benefit older patrons, the author believes emergent readers are better served through print books that help develop physical literacy skills.
